I, for one, adore the over-the-top golden coloring in Rivendell. It might be my nostalgia, but... Rivendell is supposed to be the coolest place in the world that isn't Valinor, and it's supposed to FEEL magical, and the unnatural golden light just brings it all home for me.
Regardless - you're doing god's work, thank you so much :)

      @jpcreativeimagery 2 года назад +7

I second that, it's the one change I would absolutely rail against with this reimagining. The use of color or absence of certain colors etc sets a scene and a mood and is an extremely powerful tool. It's not nostalgia, it's essential for this magical place and conveys the aura of the location.

@@jpcreativeimagery Dito. Same with the blue lighting on top of the Tower of Orthanc, it Ok to have a wash of colour no and again for a specific purpose. I wonder what the light director (?) of the original film thinks, seeing all of their careful choices swept away, in the name of what . . . clarity? Who gives a frack about clarity.

With a movie like Fellowship that has such variety in color between dark and light, it gets really noticeable when instead of just the dark scenes looking gloomy, the bright and warm scenes look gloomy aswell.

The latest Remastered 15 disc Blu-Ray Trilogy of the Lord of the Rings Extended Editions has proper color range. The box cover has a black and grey map background with portion of the ring with glowing lettering. The top of the box has a gold banner with REMASTERED BLU-RAY TRILOGY in silver. The 15 disc set contains 3 blue storage cases with 5 discs in each. 6 Blu-Rays for 3 films and 9 DVDs of extras.
No greenish grey tint in the Fellowship of the Ring. Beautiful white clouds and snow as seen by the human eye when sunlight is broken down into all visible colors and scattered in multiple directions.

I'm so glad someone is on my side with the color grading! I was beginning work on a video talking about it soon, especially with the 4k transfers of the film being released. The extended editions were mostly easy to ignore but some of the 4k grading, Jackson has said recently, was to make the LOTR films look more like The Hobbit films, so that they look like they were all shot at the same time. I'm sorry, what!?

Other important thing to point out, the "theatrical grade" blu-ray isn't actually the colors seen in theaters. Even the theatrical Blu-Rays alter the original grading, just not quite as significantly as the Extended Blu-Rays. So the first DVDs and 4Ks, being partially scanned from the original negative in the latter instance, are ironically the closest to theatrically accurate colors.

Both Peter Jackson and the original colorist, Peter Doyle, has been involved in this process. Bill knows a bunch of the people working at Weta so lets hope he's right!

After I learned there was a difference, I rented the version with the theatrical grade because everyone talked about how much they hated how it changed in later versions, but honestly, the newer grade feels so much better to me. I love the tint and darkness of the newer versions. It adds a really appropriate mood to the story that I love. I think flatter, whiter grades are much more boring and a missed opportunity to add atmosphere.

I'm glad they got Jackson's approval, but is it really necessary to do this, I'd rather they just leave it the way it was, you remember it a that way as well and you nostalgia is built on that look. I'm fine with a certain amount of remastering or cleaning up but things age and flaws show, it's fine let them.
I prefer seeing older films that have scratches and film moving around over the static flat clean look of over doing it today.

Just watched the regraded "Fellowship of the Rings". I didn't watch every Scene but skipped throuh all chapters to get a general sense.
I'm really impressed. Looks far better that the original Version.
There is still one Problem but i think it's more a Problem with how the First movie was graded.
It feels a little Bit inconsistent with skin tones. In some scenes they are orange, in others natural and in a few scenes quiet muted.
And it has nothing to do with overall color vibes which are used to get a certain atmosphere.
The Two Towers and Return of the King feel more consistent.
Picture quality otherwise (sharpness and details) are top notch.
Why can't we have a theatrical cut which looks as good ? The original bluray is a blurry DNR-mess

An absolute crime. All those were involved should be held accountable, including Peter!

Well, one of those people who could have been queried about this questionable choice, Andrew Lesnie, hasn’t been with us for almost nine years.

You can adjust the color on your TV set duh

Thanks for your very gracious and encouraging comment, Thomas...
...unfortunately, like I explained in the video, the _whole_ film is not _uniformly_ "green tinted". And I personally don't want to be getting up every other scene to adjust my TV set.
