You don't need to make your heart do all of the heavy lifting with that when that's also a literal ending that actually exists. People tend to discount the alternate ending when it's perfectly valid. No, It's not their original vision and it does ignore some foreshadowing of the twist, but it was still made by the creators and put on the dvd. That' means you have full permission to accept it as canon from the storytellers themselves. Either way, you have to admit that it's a hell of a lot more tangible than just existing in your heart. But hey I feel you

after 8 seasons, it was hard to imagine that the mother would live up to the expectation but Cristin Milioti exceeded it
It's incredible and extremely lucky when you build up like that and pull off the build-up of a character. I'm not comparing it but it's very similar of Marlon Brando as Colonel Kurtz in Apocalypse Now. You spend this whole ridiculous movie leading up to this legendary character here and all these stories and I think very few actors could have played a Kurt where you said okay that makes sense This is why we spent the whole movie going up River to see him. But my God the brilliance of Marlon Brando The guy sounds like a real drama queen behind the scene but there is a reason he's considered one of the best actors He can come in and just deliver a performance as Colonel Kurtz. It's like him as Superman's dad and Superman 1 and 2 with Christopher Reeve He's over the top but it's like yep that would be Superman's dad.
Its just a shame they didn't decide to adjust the course of the ending when that happened.

@@JoybuzzerX I mean, if you like it then more power to you. To me it just went totally against the last few seasons of Ted repeatedly "getting over" Robin. And of course you cannot please everyone, for one I'm happy we get the official alternate ending so you can pick the version you prefer.

The ending we got makes much more since for why he's telling the story to the kids.
Tracy is dead, it's been 6 years, he's ready to move on, he still loves their mom, but with her gone, there's a reason he wants to get back with Robin.
The ending being him just telling his kids out of the blue about how he loves the mom, not so much.
The fact that they named they’re daughter Penny cause they are both coin collectors is so cute

Cristin Milioti carried the whole season. Just oozed charisma every time she was on screen. Great chemistry with every member of the gang. She deserved more.

The main cast appeared on Inside the Actors Studio shortly before HIMYM ended and when Josh Radnor mentioned her name, the audience clapped and cheered 😊
I like to pretend that the ending didn't happen and the mother is still alive.
One thing that stood out to me about Ted and Tracy besides the cute stuff, is how they spoke to each other. Their conversations were so intriguing to watch. They had so much respect for each other.
The writers made us fall in love with Tracy in only one episode. Just like Ted, we loved her as soon as she appeared on screen
I'm glad I'm not the only one who loved Ted. He seems to catch a lot of flak for being dorky / nerdy but honestly, he's a good man and there just aren't enough of those in the world.
After 9 seasons, Josh Radnor shows us new emotions, a new range of happiness for Ted in these scenes with Tracy. If anyone needed any more proof that this cast is extraordinary :p
But they're not extraordinary, they're "Legen - wait for it - dary! :P

Exactly what I thought!! In the first 8 seasons I can feel the desperation in Ted's eyes, and in the 9th season it was just different, new light on his eyes
Robin and Tracy are literally. When Robin saw the ring in season 2 she immediately snapped and said NO 10 times without even listening. Here Tracy did the same and opposite, immediately started saying YES without even listening.
Ted and Tracy were made for each other.
From their first meeting they immediately fell for each other and everything was easy.
So with Robin everything is complicated from the start
@@raphaelparis5279 It does feel like that. Like maybe someone was looking out for Ted and making sure that, when Tracy appeared, he wouldn't be already married to Robin and suddenly realizing he was with the wrong person.
I wish the last series explored their relationship and life together instead of a wedding which ended in divorce anyways

It feels like the writers did everything backwards for the purpose of pissing off the audience. A weekend told in 22 episodes, and entire 20 years in 2 episodes. Smh.
Ted and Tracy are like the best couple ever... They are literally just made for each other and I remember how sad I was when Tracy died... I love Ted Scmosby and Tracy so much! This series got me through a really bad depression and I remember how exciting it was to wait every single night so I can watch HIMYM. It was the happiest part of the day fosho... I always hoped I'll find my Tracy one day (and I still do tho)
The fact that when he asked Barney about their marriage and realised that something was not right, instead of interviening like he used to before, he was like not gonna do that as I can't hurt my current relationship, shows how much he loves tracy and how much he cares for this relationship.
This show broked me deeply. Truth always hurts.

@@blazinsmokes3164 The argument could be made - since they only killed her in order to suggest Ted still wanting Robin afterwards, and since they made an alternate ending where she lives, and since in real life you can't die of literary necessity - that the alternate ending is in fact canon and the aired one isn't.
What annoys me the most about it, besides it making the whole show just a huge fucking bummer, is that they only did it to twist the show in knots and make it fit the ending they shot with those kids 7 years prior. That ending didn't fit where they took the show AT ALL anymore. It meant that not only did they have to kill off the mother Ted suffered 8 miserable years for, but it also meant destroying 8 years of character development and growth for Robin and Barney, to put them back into situations that made sense for the finale stuff they shot after filming Season 1. I've never seen a worse decision made in all of TV. Plus, because of the shows structure, and it all being a journey to the mother, it just poisons the entire series now. I loved this show and watched/re-watched it all the time. I've barely even thought about it since the finale. I hope Thomas and Bays both get kicked in the nuts super hard one day on the street by a fan. They deserve it.

i love them but the way I’d be so mad if my dad sat me down to tell a story about how he met my mom but started 9 years before he met her and only really mentioned her for like 5 minutes.
His kids do point out that the story is not actually about their mother as she is hardly in the story. It's actually a story of how Ted loved Robin all those years and now they both are single, they want to give it another chance.
God she is perfect for Ted. There is no rush but, just them vibing. I really didn't give any heed to Ted for his obsession towards Robin through all the seasons but, him and Tracy ranked up above Ronin and Barney for me at the finale. They really proved that they were the protagonist couple plus I loved Ted when he was around Tracy. For me they happily lived ever after and Barney and Robin took the same road but, just in a different way.
After all that ted saw in his life, I just wanted him to be happy and boy Oh boy happy he was. Tracy nailed the build up of all 8 seasons in final season. Everytime these both came together, I wanted only to see them on the screen. Never I had thought that I would care abt mother character more than that to other 4 members. It was like ted and tracy's chemistry was more than other characters of the show, who are just prime of show since 8 seasons.
I don't know if anyone kinda catches it... maybe the difference is that this time around Ted isn't being anxious. There is no asking everyone if the decision he's making is right, there's no second guessing. He fell in love at first sight and he's going for it.
I gotta give credit to writers for how beautiful they showed relationship between Ted and Tracy in reverse: death of tracy (future ted goes to Tracy to spend extra 45 days) ---> ill Tracy (Ted talks with Tracy and cries when Tracy said "what mother would miss her daughter's wedding?") ---> Ted and Tracy have the second child ---> Ted and Tracy have the first child ---> Their first date ---> Ted calls Tracy to ask her out ---> They meet under umbrella
With the official alternative ending could be the best show ever, with the original ending a fantastic show totally ruined in the last episode. I disagree that Tracy had to die, I wanted a happy ending, but even if it had to happen the fact that Barney and Robin divorce and then Ted goes back to Robin makes the whole show pointless. The show did nothing but show us how Ted and Robin are not made to be together and how Barney and Robin were made to be together, plus the last season was almost entirely focused on their wedding weekend and then they divorce in the last episode without even telling us why. They also deleted the Ted and Robin scene at the restaurant which could make the ending more acceptable. They went out of their way to ruin a fantastic show and they succeeded. Tracy was her soul mate, her true love, her destiny, now re-watching the show knowing the ending doesn't even make sense anymore. I don't care what anyone says, the official alternative ending in the dvd is the REAL ENDING ! PERIOD.

I agree. I actually really love tragedy and tragic endings. I just didn't feel as if this story earned that tragic ending. It did not earn Robin/Ted pair and it didn't make sense anymore to keep pairing these two together. They had both moved on with their lives far passed one another.
It's like this was the original ending they envisioned from the beginning of this show and they stuck with it stubbornly instead of allowing their story to grow and change organically like most stories do.
The alternative ending is the true ending for me. I don't care what anyone thinks.

Because he felt hopeless, Robin was about to marry which ment he lost her and he wanted to leave his old life behind, he didn't want to start a new relationship, because as Lilly said the woman he thought was the best for him was about to marry someone else.
I absolutely loved lilly saying this time it was different, the depth of her relationship with Ted to be able to tell how happy he was, I mean even marshall was rambling on. Ted + Lilly just worked seemlesly and it was the best damn relationship in the entire show, besides TT
Tracy was literal perfection and in my heart she was end game. Her singing in the beginning made me shed a tear. I love her and Ted’s chemistry.
The worst thing in the world was the fact that they killed off tracy (not telling us from what) and putting Robin and Ted back together. Ted deserved to spend the rest of his life with Tracy instead of getting back together with the women that disappeared from his life because he found happiness and always put her career first until she realized she was old and alone. There should have been a tenth season with it all about Ted and Tracy ending with Tracy popping in the room with a food musical

The one thing I didn't like about this whole entire series is a fact that it was more about how Ted met Robin more than his wife, like I'm being serious. Why couldn't they name it how Ted met Robin and not how I met your mother. And the other thing is Ted's wife was barely in it, even when he first met her she was barely in it, then they decide to kill her off then it was back to Robin again
Because the ending was pre-shot when it shows the kids at the end of the show they film that back in season two just in case they were canceled. So at the end when all the characters have all this character development it all basically gets thrown out the window
Not considering the possible canceling I think every thing including the love for robin and killing teds search for love and everything through out all seasons lead up to that moment they met and made their happiness even more powerful

@@emanuellespinelli5904 just look up how I met your mother alternate ending. It shows when Ted and Tracy meet but once the train passes them it ends it right there so you don’t get to see his kids tell him to go after Robin. It just says that kids is how I Met your mother.
Seeing Tracy with Ted, everything that was missing between him and Robin, Stella, Zoey, even Victoria and every other girl suddenly became clear. They just... fit together.
When I first saw her, I thought she was below my expectations, but now I found her so charming and warm that she cheered everyone up especially Ted. She is the one for Ted, and they deserved to have a perfect ending. I will cut the last three stupid minutes of the show and just announce that they ended up together, getting old together and die together. 😢

Rewatching this show, and just came across the Thanksgiving episode where Future Ted pretends the mother is the stripper in the episode. Funny part, the stripper says her name is Tracy....which ends up being the actual name of the mother.

I was so invested in the cast for 8 seasons, until she appeared and absolutely stole the spotlight from everyone else. Easily, the best character in it.

In my head canon, it was a dream the whole time; Tracy is his totem. You can tell because she never stopped spinning.

Tracy is such a wonderful character, I will never not love her and Ted. 8 years of watching Ted struggle wondering what could make it worth it, and season 9 delivered on that so hard.

How wanted more of ted and tracy. The two were just perfect.
I loved her as the mother. Cristin absolutely nailed the performance and made us all fall in love with her.
However, it always bugged me how the eye color of both Lyndsy Fonseca and David Henrie (Penny and Luke) matched Ashley Williams's eyes (Victoria) because she was supposed to be the mother if the show wasn't picked up for a second season. And neither Cristin's or Josh's brown eyes match with their "children", so that sucks.

It's absolutely normal that two brown eyed people can have blue eyed children.
It just wouldn't be possible that two people with blue eyes have children with brown eyes.
I saw a video where they were talking about that they filmed Tracy's funeral for the finale. They thought it was too dark and sad so they didn't use it.
Everybody had different opinions on who was Ted's potential soulmate. Then came Tracy and all potentials, maybe's faded in her comparison. She was beautiful, amazing, funny, charming and totally perfect.....
Imagine seeing this chemistry and then saying I have to kill it because I already planned the ending in season 3…
They are best couple in this series. I wish they had more screentime.
There is nothing to hate about tracy. I think the only think I don't like is that they should have done another season focusing on ted and tracy. That is hard to do in tv shows and movies create a character that everyone loves

I like the fact that their relation was almost mystical. We only have few scenes of Ted and Tracy but it's ok, they have their happinness and this special chimestry between them, no need to see more.
Just finish the show for the fourth time and it's still a pleasure. I like the ending, even if they should wrote the final Season differently besides to focus the weeding. They should made a movie, i would love that !!

Perfect casting. Not easy to pull it off after people waited eight seasons to see her, but by God the creators and the lovely actress pulled it off.
This is why the ending of the show is so bad. Ted and Tracy are perfect for each other and Ted and Robin's relationship didn't work out at all. Ted and Robin didn't have any good chemistry and the show wants to show us that a relationship between those too would never work at all. In every season they proofed that to us. I hate that ending, I hate it so much and I hate Robin (not just for the ending, I have several reasons). Ted & Tracey forever.

For me there should have been a season 10.
With 2 episodes focused on Tracy of how she met Ted and 22 episodes of what happened between 2014 and 2030 but of course Tracy won't be dead.
Chose the perfect cast to play The Mother, the audiences LOVE her, but decided to go back to the Robin ending anyway.
What a blunder.
Her death wasn’t completely unnecessary, she deserved to grow old with Ted. However… that’s life, and it fcking sucks
I will never forget the writers for taking Travy from us. But i do think there is something poetic abiut both of them having their first loves. Ted's was Robin and Tracy's passed away. At the end of the show both of them reunite with their first loves (if you believe in the idea of an afterlife).
They really messed up this ending for me by just killing Tracy… simply Unforgivable:
