I don't understand how people don't realize that. Yes. He loved Robin. No doubt. However, nothing was going to take him away from Tracy. Not that I believe Ted would've ever left Robin, but they didn't have the timing. I think people forget that Tracy had another love of her life as well, Max, who died. Took Tracy a long time to move on, to which she thought she never would. When she did she didn't feel it was right and left him (Louis). The only difference with Ted moving on, is it's with another love of his life that he had to give up. He couldn't give her up for 8 years, until she was married and was going to move away, only to meet Tracy. Ted was Tracy's Ted. I think Tracy realized this. It's why she was secure enough and invited Robin to her and Ted's wedding.
That scene is everything catching up to Robin. She blew it with both Ted and Barney now she’s miserable and alone. She got what she deserved. A long ways down the road 6 years after Tracy’s passing she and Ted find their way back to each other.

I always loved Ted and Robin together. Ted was always the stability that Robin needed and he kept showing that by being there for her ( the locket). It wouldn’t have worked out had it not happened the way it did( Ted having his kids). While I absolutely loved the mother, I’m happy that Ted and Robin ended up together cause I was a fan of them from day 1
Ted got what he wanted ( a family and love of his life) and Robin got what she wanted (a great career) and they could come together in the end. And something that gets glosses over is that Tracy also had another prior love of her life that was her everything, and her dying kinda of is like she gets to be with him again.

Ted couldn’t be happy with Tracy(mother) until he let go of Robin, after she married Barney. That is why he couldn’t make it with Victoria even she was the best for him at that time. He was still in love with Robin and was thinking it is still possible to get her. Thank you for this video. It all make sense now. It is like one great love story. You can’t see it so clear when you watching the show because it is watered down with all other great things happening in show, in life.
I think Tracy was the one who made ted to be happy and forget robin. Thats why they should have included the lunch scene, cause thats so important for the ending. Ted has moved over Robin but she isn't rly happy.
Watch the lunch scene again, he didn't get over robin, he chose to not think about anything else but what he already has. He never says he's over her, he simply tells her he lives both thinking about "what ifs", in a way it also tells you that he still loved robin but also loved Tracy. It's very possible to be in love with 2 people at the same time. Robin and Tracy bought out different sides of Ted, to say one side was better is just wrong. Ted was happy and he wasn't going to think about the past, he was gonna think of the now.
This show is f…ng grate. The best. Writing, actors, characters growth. And now I see it always was Ted and Robin. He was ready from the first episode, and she got so many issues and she was finely there after so many years, and Ted was waiting for that. 😢
I'd say in the end it was more like her waiting for him. She realized she should have ended up with him long before Tracy got sick, and they got together only six years after her death. So these whole six years she waited.
I really loved this. I think people were thrown off by the title of the show and thought Ted was telling a story on how he met the mom, but this was a story on how he met Robin and how they both loved each other. They had great chemistry and their character development showed through the series. At some points regressed but then progress again but that's how humans work. Like Robin not wanting kids or getting married but all that changing as it goes on as soon as she is not able to have kids and showing how she loves Ted by giving away her happiness for his. Ted learning that love is not a fairytale or fantasy and his definition of love changes, such as no such thing as one true love. Robin was a true love, Tracy was a true love. However, Tracy died due to an illness. He was widowed for 6 years and got encouraged to go for Robin who was also a true love of his.
The problem was they killed the chemistry after their break up and they built the Barney Robin chemistry which a lot of fans loved. If they had to finish with Ted Robin I think they had to develop their chemistry back again and maybe keep Quinn or Nora as a regular character with Barney for his development.

Robin knew since the very beginning Ted fell for her, and she was willing to play the conquest dance , when she turned on the stereo. The mistake Ted committed was saying "I love you" at minutes of meeting Robin. That is a big no! even if it is true, you don't say it, you wait, otherwise; the other person really freaks out. Just imagine hearing " I love you" from someone you have never seen before in your life. That might be a little "freaky".
I do get why people didn’t want them together at the end because they’ve been through a lot, together and apart, they evolved and people thought that them getting back together ruined it. but I don’t think it did. I loved the mother and was so sad when she died but if you really think about it, the show wasn’t about Tracy meeting Ted. It was always about Robin ! We knew it from the beginning, the show began with her it’s only logical it ends with her too (and you won’t make me believe that Ted never had a serious relationship before Robin) It doesn’t ruin the moments and the love story Ted had with Tracy, it only allows Ted to be happy after her too And despite the fact that I liked Barney and Robin together, they weren’t made to last (I don’t get the whole season on the wedding for them to divorce right after though) The show taught us that it is not always a « happy ever after » story but it doesn’t mean that it is not worth it, or that it can’t happen again and sometimes it’s all about timing I think it was Barney who said « It was a successful marriage » when he and Robin told the group they were getting a divorce, I always found that profound because even if it ends doesn’t mean it wasn’t great
I thought Barney and Robin were a terrible couple based on sexual attraction alone. That moment when she tried to tell him she wanted to get married in Canada, and he not just disagreed but refused to even discuss it (even though he knew her mother was afraid of flying and could have had problems getting to New York) was very telling (does anyone really think that the show on the skating-rink under the Canadian flag after several highly unpleasant hours was the same as what she wanted?) @@bluespruce8430 I understand what you’re saying… It’s been a long time since I watch it and I remember not liking them together at moments but they put so many energy into their wedding that I kind forced myself to love them together, to look at the good things of their relationship rather than the bad, so I wouldn’t hate the ending (because it looked like they were gonna be canon at the end) I never understood why they did that season when they were planning on them divorcing right after (even though I wasn’t against it like I said I feel they weren’t meant to last) and the ending we got made sense for me the last season didn’t (do you understand what I mean ?)
I think I understand. In fact, I guess the great majority of the viewers wonder why the last season was like this. The only explanation I could come up with is that they wanted Tracy's time on the show to be as short as possible. And since at the end of season 8 she was already introduced, and Ted already decided to move to Chicago right after the wedding, they only could either make the wedding as long as possible or make the season very short. Maybe it's not so, of course.
This is the exact point I’ve been trying to make for years. Tracy was great and I’m not trying to diminish what she and Ted shared but this was always the story of Ted and Robin.
Inspite of so many speculations over the years it is a show that made us realize how extensive human emotions are. I totally agree with you. Tracy is a wonderful woman probably perfect for Ted, his soulmate. But it was a story about love despite being different, despite all that they have gone through, it was always their love deep inside. For both of them. That does not mean Ted's love for Tracy was fake. But it is also evident we cannot ignore the fact how painful it is to watch both Ted and Robin suffering without each other and still could not be together. Love doesn't always comes in a form of soulmates and that is true to all in reality. I know it's quite vicious the title 'How I met your Mother', but it is suppose to be like that. That is the most artistic thing the story writers did. It is a story of Ted meeting Tracy but through the road he had always loved Robin. And deep down Robin did the same.
My only problem with Ted and Robin was how the producers invested in her and Barney and they were really epic. However these first seasons her and ted are more deep and heart felt

if looking at some trivial details, I think Josh and Cobie might have developed a friendship deeper than other 3. like in Maclaren's, most of the time they sit next to each other if they are not with someone even Barney. i remember one scene NPH even gave his seat to Cobie next to Josh which kinda unnecessary. During the period when Ted and Robin were roommates I remember some scenes Robin just held Ted's arm. I really believe their real personalities have intangible similarities which makes their chemistry extremely well.
Ted and Robin > Barney and Robin. HIMYM is my favorite show even I hate it when a woman get together with 2 friends of a group. Nevertheless, the two had nice scenes but Ted and Robin are the better couple. He made Robin fit for a relationship.
I had a friendship like this with my male best friend who was in love with me for 1.5 years. We went back and forth, except that we never ended up in a relationship because I just couldn’t return his feelings although I tried just so he could stay in my life. He knew I wasn’t the right person for him too but his feelings kept getting in the way. He made me choose between getting into a relationship with him or breaking the contact once and for all. As much as I loved him as a friend and as a person I just couldn’t be with him, so he cut me off. To this day I still miss him and the friendship we had. Although I’m in a happy relationship now with someone I love, I sometimes wish I could go back to the way it was just so see him.
I know, Maybe sometimes the soulmate thing doesn't work in the way we want. Sometimes I wonder what if. Like Robin. But I love my husband so much , he is my whole world. I love everything he says and he does. But for me, it is a moment of missing a part of me. A very fun girl and her best friend who want to change the world together, who laugh all the time together, who gossip together. And sometimes I say to myself what if I accepted these feelings ! I have tried to contact that guy many times before, he told me he was in a relationship. i think they broke up, and he is into a lot of sadness. But I can't do anything. I feel sometimes it's my responsibility and my fault he had his heart broken so many times , he lost his mom , he got into so many toxic relationships😊! And he is a nice guy. watching this gives me clarity on why tracy had to die of an illness for ted and robin to get back together in the end. this show had so many foreshadowing moments that tracy was going to die (but doesn't necessarily mean that he will be with robin in the end). like the time ted was dating tracy's roommate and he was picking up all of tracy's stuff, and he narrated that the little bus behind his kids used to be tracy's favourite. (just an example). yes the story was about how ted met tracy (love of his life) but its also the path ted had to take to meet tracy, have kids (something he always wanted) and then end up with robin (love of his life also.) and robin had to do the things she did in order to achieve what she wanted (a great career) and end up with ted who she probably belonged with in the first place (to me, robin + barney seemed like a very forced storyline :/) it is sad that tracy died, cause things seemed to have finally clicked for ted and he finally found what he was looking and yearning for all this while, but not forgetting that before tracy and ted met, tracy had the love of her life too. her dying also meant they were going to meet again, i feel? anyways, watching this feels so nostalgic. i've rewatched himym at least 7-8 times now because it's just so... great. the growth, the developments, the plot, everything.

Wow! I rewatched the part that was like “Your phone rang, I answered it…I hope you don’t mind” Robin instantly replied: “No” This only shows how much Robin trusted Ted. When she felt alone and sad she always ended up running to Ted for comfort. When she was unemployed and hopeless she asked Ted “can I move in”? They even found an excuse together to have sex without any feelings involve. But like Robin herself said one time “There is something between us and that doesn’t disappear without a trace” at Ted & Stella’s wedding. And let’s not forget the flashback when Robin was drinking alone at McLaren’s Pub and she called Lilly just to asked her: “Why isn’t Ted marrying me”? “I’m supposed to be happy for him…and here I am, moving to Japan just to get away from him” that right there told me she secretly loved Ted from the beginning, but never had the courage to embrace those feelings, so it was easier to pretend she didn’t feel anything for him. But noticed that somehow she always mabaged to comeback to Ted’s life one way or another. Remember when Robin figured out by herself that Ted, not Barney that got her Locked back? She automatically had second thoughts about marrying Barney. But Ted was a better person than she even thought and declined Robin’s offer of “running away together” I always looked at clues that confirmed Robin was always in love with Ted. It was just the fact that she understood the assignment: Ted wanted a family a have kids. But she didn’t want that, so she couldn’t do that to him (not giving him what he wanted to be happy) Also, I remember the scene: “if I ever have someone’s babies…I’ll have your babies” that was Robin to Ted right before they broke up. That right there kept me thinking. Also, when Ted was serous about a girl. Robin somehow tried to intervene (except when Ted was with Tracy) because she knew Ted really loved Tracy…although she felt sad watching Ted and Tracy together. The mistake Ted committed was saying "I love you" at minutes of meeting Robin. That is a big no! even if it is true, you don't say it, you wait, otherwise; the other person really freaks out. Just imagine hearing " I love you" from someone you have never seen before in your life. That might be a little "freaky".

I do get why people didn’t want them together at the end because they’ve been through a lot, together and apart, they evolved and people thought that them getting back together ruined it. but I don’t think it did.
I loved the mother and was so sad when she died but if you really think about it, the show wasn’t about Tracy meeting Ted.
It was always about Robin ! We knew it from the beginning, the show began with her it’s only logical it ends with her too (and you won’t make me believe that Ted never had a serious relationship before Robin)
It doesn’t ruin the moments and the love story Ted had with Tracy, it only allows Ted to be happy after her too
And despite the fact that I liked Barney and Robin together, they weren’t made to last (I don’t get the whole season on the wedding for them to divorce right after though)
The show taught us that it is not always a « happy ever after » story but it doesn’t mean that it is not worth it, or that it can’t happen again and sometimes it’s all about timing
I think it was Barney who said « It was a successful marriage » when he and Robin told the group they were getting a divorce, I always found that profound because even if it ends doesn’t mean it wasn’t great
I thought Barney and Robin were a terrible couple based on sexual attraction alone. That moment when she tried to tell him she wanted to get married in Canada, and he not just disagreed but refused to even discuss it (even though he knew her mother was afraid of flying and could have had problems getting to New York) was very telling (does anyone really think that the show on the skating-rink under the Canadian flag after several highly unpleasant hours was the same as what she wanted?) But totally agree with the rest of what you said.
@@bluespruce8430 I understand what you’re saying… It’s been a long time since I watch it and I remember not liking them together at moments but they put so many energy into their wedding that I kind forced myself to love them together, to look at the good things of their relationship rather than the bad, so I wouldn’t hate the ending (because it looked like they were gonna be canon at the end)

I think I understand. In fact, I guess the great majority of the viewers wonder why the last season was like this. The only explanation I could come up with is that they wanted Tracy's time on the show to be as short as possible. And since at the end of season 8 she was already introduced, and Ted already decided to move to Chicago right after the wedding, they only could either make the wedding as long as possible or make the season very short. Maybe it's not so, of course.
This is the exact point I’ve been trying to make for years. Tracy was great and I’m not trying to diminish what she and Ted shared but this was always the story of Ted and Robin.
Inspite of so many speculations over the years it is a show that made us realize how extensive human emotions are. I totally agree with you. Tracy is a wonderful woman probably perfect for Ted, his soulmate. But it was a story about love despite being different, despite all that they have gone through, it was always their love deep inside. For both of them. That does not mean Ted's love for Tracy was fake. But it is also evident we cannot ignore the fact how painful it is to watch both Ted and Robin suffering without each other and still could not be together. Love doesn't always comes in a form of soulmates and that is true to all in reality. I know it's quite vicious the title 'How I met your Mother', but it is suppose to be like that. That is the most artistic thing the story writers did. It is a story of Ted meeting Tracy but through the road he had always loved Robin. And deep down Robin did the same.

if looking at some trivial details, I think Josh and Cobie might have developed a friendship deeper than other 3. like in Maclaren's, most of the time they sit next to each other if they are not with someone even Barney. i remember one scene NPH even gave his seat to Cobie next to Josh which kinda unnecessary. During the period when Ted and Robin were roommates I remember some scenes Robin just held Ted's arm. I really believe their real personalities have intangible similarities which makes their chemistry extremely well.

I had a friendship like this with my male best friend who was in love with me for 1.5 years. We went back and forth, except that we never ended up in a relationship because I just couldn’t return his feelings although I tried just so he could stay in my life. He knew I wasn’t the right person for him too but his feelings kept getting in the way. He made me choose between getting into a relationship with him or breaking the contact once and for all. As much as I loved him as a friend and as a person I just couldn’t be with him, so he cut me off. To this day I still miss him and the friendship we had. Although I’m in a happy relationship now with someone I love, I sometimes wish I could go back to the way it was just so see him.

watching this gives me clarity on why tracy had to die of an illness for ted and robin to get back together in the end. this show had so many foreshadowing moments that tracy was going to die (but doesn't necessarily mean that he will be with robin in the end). like the time ted was dating tracy's roommate and he was picking up all of tracy's stuff, and he narrated that the little bus behind his kids used to be tracy's favourite. (just an example).
yes the story was about how ted met tracy (love of his life) but its also the path ted had to take to meet tracy, have kids (something he always wanted) and then end up with robin (love of his life also.) and robin had to do the things she did in order to achieve what she wanted (a great career) and end up with ted who she probably belonged with in the first place (to me, robin + barney seemed like a very forced storyline :/)
it is sad that tracy died, cause things seemed to have finally clicked for ted and he finally found what he was looking and yearning for all this while, but not forgetting that before tracy and ted met, tracy had the love of her life too. her dying also meant they were going to meet again, i feel?
anyways, watching this feels so nostalgic. i've rewatched himym at least 7-8 times now because it's just so... great. the growth, the developments, the plot, everything.

They even found an excuse together to have sex without any feelings involve. But like Robin herself said one time “There is something between us and that doesn’t disappear without a trace” at Ted & Stella’s wedding.
And let’s not forget the flashback when Robin was drinking alone at McLaren’s Pub and she called Lilly just to asked her: “Why isn’t Ted marrying me”? “I’m supposed to be happy for him…and here I am, moving to Japan just to get away from him” that right there told me she secretly loved Ted from the beginning, but never had the courage to embrace those feelings, so it was easier to pretend she didn’t feel anything for him. But noticed that somehow she always mabaged to comeback to Ted’s life one way or another.
Remember when Robin figured out by herself that Ted, not Barney that got her Locked back? She automatically had second thoughts about marrying Barney. But Ted was a better person than she even thought and declined Robin’s offer of “running away together”
I always looked at clues that confirmed Robin was always in love with Ted. It was just the fact that she understood the assignment: Ted wanted a family a have kids. But she didn’t want that, so she couldn’t do that to him (not giving him what he wanted to be happy)
Also, I remember the scene: “if I ever have someone’s babies…I’ll have your babies” that was Robin to Ted right before they broke up. That right there kept me thinking.
Also, when Ted was serous about a girl. Robin somehow tried to intervene (except when Ted was with Tracy) because she knew Ted really loved Tracy…although she felt sad watching Ted and Tracy together. I bet she was thinking: “That girl Ted is married to…that could be me” sad.

You know, i don’t get why people hate Ted and Robin. Ted was over the top yes. But he was true to himself. He’s a hopeless romantic. He was a very kind friend to all of them. Robin and barney are SO similar. They were great as a couple but they kinda were toxic together. They both hate commitment and they wanted to commit to eachother?? I mean they were tooo similar to be together in my opinion. And tbh their relationship was more sexual than romantic. They tried to settle down at first but they both were miserable. They needed someone to who would ground them. For barney i think that would be Nora and for Robin i think that was Ted. Barney broke the bro code and Ted forgave him. But the moment Ted tries to give Barney advice on the girl He dated for a year, Barney is all “im the one marrying her not you” Im sorry but that annoyed me asf because Ted was only telling barney the BARE MINIMUM like Stop hitting on other girls while you’re engaged!!! But he was like “ooh Robin is so cool i can continue with my ways” 💀 im sorry but that kind of relationship is very toxic. Barney deserved a better ending and i kinda wish he ended up with Nora but he was a terrible person towards women. I hated the ending tbh because i really wanted Ted to be happy. I loved Barney’s character development. But Robin deserved a Ted in her life, from the jump. She was just scared to be loved from the beginning because of her father. Ted wasn’t the best guy in the world, but he always, “went big for robin”. He deserved her too. Unfortunately multiple things could be true at once, Ted needed Barney as well. And vice versa. Honestly one of the best love triangle’s ever written. I just wished Barney changed for Nora instead.

Yes, Robin is the love of his life .
