  • Now I think we have all seen the constant theme from many brands reissue or create designs with a heavy vintage influence. And despite these clearly being reactions to consumer demand, often many of these watches developed to answer this call of demand come off as inauthentic leading to them missing the mark. However, this Hamilton Intra-Matic Chrono is a great example of a watch that hits all the right marks, and personally, it is one of my favorites that the brand offers.

As an Omega-phile I was really wanting to add a racing-inspired Speedmaster to my collection. I was close to pulling the trigger on a speedmaster ‘57 but at 16.5mm thick I just couldn’t do it. Then I found the Intra-Matic. Dare I say that Hamilton has designed a better racing speedmaster than Omega. So, welcome to the collection Hamilton.

Not only that it is my favorite Hamilton, it is one of my favorite watches currently on the market. And they did a good job by making it smaller than previous, limited edition reverse-panda model. Alongside Longines Big Eye, this is a perfect example of vintage-inspired chronograph done right. Probably my next purchase!

I was in the market for a chronograph trailed the market looking at tudor longines and omega and a shelby baume et mercier. The hamilton won in respect to it's overall package including 100M even the basic speedy can't beat that. This is a cool watch that's hits well above its weight..

My first watch was a mechanical chronograph that my parents gave to me when I graduated from high school in 1971. I enjoyed that watch until a repair quote came in at 3 times the purchase price. Since then, all of my chronographs (ignoring my 30 mechanical stop watches and my one pocket watch chronograph) have been quartz. The Hamilton is intriguing. I like that the sub-second tick marks are for 1/4 seconds, which matches up with the watch’s 8 beats per second movement.

I keep saying, Hamilton is one of the best value propositions out there. They do tend to make their watches a bit large, in the 42-46mm range, so I'm glad they took the great looks of the Intra-matic 68 and scaled it down bit.

I am a big fan of the Tissot Heritage 1948. It was a grail watch for me last year, and I love the vintage styling and 39mm case. My only complaint is that it requires straps with curved spring bars, which limits how much I can customize it.

1000% agree about the lugs. Seems like they could have shortened them significantly and had the exact same vibe in a more wearable case. The lugs seem to stretch across your entire wrist. This one has to be at the top of my list for "entry level" auto chronos. I usually prefer three subdial chronos, but panda dials always trump number of subdials. Maybe I'm just ignorant of what's on the market, but it seems like beyond this you really have to go up to that $4k-$5k level of Speedy, Monaco, and Navitimer.

I second that notion. I loved the look of this Hamilton and in fact own 4 Hamilton watches, but when I tried this on in person, the 14.5 mm was way too thick. Loved the 40 mm diameter, but because the thickness was greater than 1/3rd of the dial diameter I felt like I was wearing a bowl instead of a plate on my wrist. On the Seagull Tip (although I haven't tried one on yet), I would be thinking Baltic Bicompax or the Mercer Lexington at 1/3rd the price.

Really like that dial; I could see myself just going nuts having fun with different types of straps on this watch!
I kind of wished they had followed their design style with the date display; a round window with a black dial textured the same as the other two black dials. White font. No colored outline.
    Thanks Teddy!

The extended pushers are the one thing that throws it off for me...other than that it looks awesome! Maybe if they would make the crown smaller and pull in the pushers - I’d get one.

Thank you for an excellent review, I especially liked the b-roll. This is a really beautiful chronograph. Maen is coming out with chrono using the ETA 2894 that looks interesting :)

For me it’s a toss up between this Hamilton and the Longines Big Eye.

Honestly for somebody starting as a watch enthusiast, you can't beat the Seiko Flightmaster SNA411 chronograph for around $200 bucks. I know we are comparing apples and oranges here (a Japanese quartz versus an automatic Swiss) but for somebody "getting their feet wet for the first time" to chronographs the Flightmaster is perfect. Drawbacks: The 21MM lug width and finding a good selection of straps that fits to this watch.

This is a GREAT watch. It can be found for slightly lower than MSRP in a lot of places. I put a tan rally strap on it to give it a 1960s - Dan Gurney vibe.

I really like the black hands on the white face, definitely a crono panda guy. Got a Seiko Panda from the 90;s.

Huge fan of the panda style & while I love this watch I decided to buy the tissot heritage 1973 as my first big watch purchase. Great video as usual, keep it up!

Really beautiful watch (and mechanism), I love Hamilton !! Thanks for this review Teddy, would you please be able to review the new ones that Hamilton just launched with mechanical mouvement ? I would love to buy one for my husband (I am myself a passionate watch lover, and would love to hear about your selection of Automatic watches for ladies !)

This one was fun to shoot. That dial is very punchy with the contrast. Thanks for watching Javier!

I think this Hamilton Chronograph definitely looks better because of the off-white dial. I think that makes it more versatile as opposed to a straight up monochrome dial. As soon as I saw the thumbnail, I dropped what I was doing and watched because this watch is one of my absolute favorites, especially in this price range

Longines Heritage Diver ‘67,big,bold and slightly brazen!
The featured Hamy is a looker ,though I feel the off-the shelf price is a couple hundred U.S. ‘top-heavy’
