Borla ATAK Hyundai Veloster N Exhaust Sound

- Comparing the sound of the stock Veloster N PP Exhaust to the Borla ATAK Exhaust system. My Hyundai Veloster N is a 2020 with the Performance Package so it has the exhaust valve. The video and audio were all captured by an iPhone 12 pro. The exhaust sounds different in person than it does in video. My car has the stock down pipe, I have the aFe Takeda Intake.

This is how you sell a fucking exhaust. Borla better pay you royalties. Such an amazingly detailed video. You give me hope for car enthusiast's to make non-cringe worthy exhaust videos that make people want to spend money they don't need to.
I want to do this so bad. I love Borla Exhaust. How do the pops and crackle sound now. Kinda of hard by the video. Are they louder or quieter? Thanks.
Amen
@@jamesluft5792 much louder and much more often for me, even get some tiny ones in normal mode sometimes, I really like it :)
@@benkerley1014 borla made my 97 civic sound good, ZERO rasp even with resonator delete, always liked the atak lineup
Im like “the original exhaust sounds good.” borla...hold my beer.
🤣🤣
And here i was thinking i wasn't gonna do anything to my car's stock exhaust 😂 well now i got no choice but to eventually get one of these Borla systems, daaaaamn 😲👌
Vw and audi could learn a thing or 2 from Hyundai when it comes to car sounds
To be honest. I like the aftermarket exhaust but in my opinion the stock exhaust does the trick just fine.
Same
Did a reso delete on mine for $30. ATAK might sound better, but it doesn't sound $1000 better.
@@PacoRobbins does this void warranty or cause you to no longer pass emissions? asking for a friend :P
@@poppachoppa8956 no you shouldn't have any issues at all. Emissions stuff is still in place, and in normal mode the exhaust is just as quiet as stock.
Yeah I can't justify spending $1k+ just to make it sound a little bit better
Closed valve is a huge difference but honestly I'm surprised at just how good the stock exhaust sounds when its open, honestly might just leave it as is when I get mine
The difference is no exhaust flow and huge decrease in performance
@@bored2323
Not that much of a restriction. At least when the valve is open. It goes straight out through no muffler. The cat would be more restricted at that point.
I bet the neighbors are proud !

Bro thank you for going through the time to make a detailed video
No worries, thanks for watching!

Great video. Thank you for taking the time to do this!

Wow the Borla sounds awesome! And I thought the stock exhaust was the way to go on this thing 😳
Excellent video!! I’m picking one up in a few days. This makes me all the more excited. Thanks!!
this thing sounds sooo good!
Ohhh man. Its on. My guys couldn't get the install even either. But omg man it's so obnoxiously beautiful

I wish AFE had a detailed video like this! Thanks alot mate ! i think imma go borla it sounds really good.
You won’t be disappointed:)
Great detailed video 👍👍
You sold me on this exhaust system. Once I get one of these Veloster N’s imma put that shit on there. That stock exhaust is good, but the borla exhaust system takes it a step further
Very nice video, this video made me buy this exhaust! Thanks! 🙏
Thank you!! 👍
With subpar audio quality you still made probably the best exhaust comparison video ever made… seriously. Go buy a good mic, not as an attack. But as a suggestion to make a great channel lol. Kudos bro, thanks a lot for the video
Thanks for the feedback I appreciate it! Yea I’m planing on buying a better mic if the channel gets to 1,000 subscribers lol, thanks for watching 👍
Both in think both sound really good
I just put mine on tonight. I have to be careful around the cops now but it’s worth it!
Omg i love this
This paired with a cat less down pipe would sound crazy on my N but I can’t afford it 😂🙏🏻
Music to my ears
Borla is sooooo good. I want one for my Elantra Sport.
This review is great! Many thanks.
Could you please explain the mechanics involved with open vs. closed valves, such as what one needs to do to open them? I don't know a lot about cars, admittedly, but I LOVE them. My husband is leaning towards getting this car some day. Am hoping he does!❤️
(Rented a Chrysler 300 sport this spring, and about died with delight...going fast is so exhilarating... I feel the need for speed more than ever now🎉🎊)
The valve is controlled by a motor tied to the exhaust valve, the way you open it is through the steering wheel (N mode is fully open) and you can change it to be either fully open, mid open or closed in N Custom, when changing modes on the cars steering wheel it (depending on the mode) tells the exhaust valve actuator to either have it open, halfway open or closed. The motor moves the exhaust valve with a spring depending on what mode you have it on. :)
Getting mine on Thursday. Been waiting since October...
Congrats!!!!!!!!!
I took my car into and exhaust shop. I couldn't stand the pipe out so much. One was flush on mine. One was sticking out 1.5 inches. They cut one side and welded it properly. Fits perfect now.
Yea you could also go that route when fixing the exhaust unevenness :)
Hey what's happening I've purchase a 2020 Hyundai veloster turbo r spec I've changed out the Mufflers and exhaust tips and the spoiler N it's loud enough with all the pops gurgling and burbling especially in cold start and thanks for sharing your videos with me 👋👍🙂😂🚘♥️
I have a Borla atak on my civic. I love it but it doesn’t quite sound as good as this vid. Rock on
Maaan one day I’ll own one. Test drove one cause I was planning on buying one but was blessed with a immaculate 35k 07’ 335i coupe that just fell into my lap that I couldn’t say no to. Had hella fun driving this one though!
A+ video my friend. Wanna do everything else for everyone?😂
Yeah I think I want this car next 😅
I WILL own a Veloster N. I WILL own a Veloster N. I WILL own a Veloster N.
it's only 30k these days, hope you finally got one!
Did you make it happen yet?
Did you get one??
Im happy to say I got rid of my civic and got a 1st gen turbo. N is still on the horizon though
Do you ?
Borla is great. But on VN, its tone and note don't change so much. It just sounds deeper because it muffles less. I wonder if EN that has a bigger turbo sound better
🔥🔥🔥
Nice bro
This sounds MEAN ASF
It sounds better in person!!!
Thanks for the detailed video! How could you describe in terms of "levels" how much louder the Borla is compared to stock? Like double loudness, or just marginally louder?
@@chrizzz619 how about in Normal mode?
I was looking for a good exhaust, but this just solidifies that I don’t need one.
Sounds badass! I have the same color too white 2021 in dct. I wanna upgrade exhadut since dct is quieter than manual. This is better?
Nice! I would check with borla to see if this fits the DCT, I’m not sure if the exhaust is different from the manual and dct. And this sounds louder and has a more deeper tone to it than stock.
Sounds better, but not so much that I’d pay for it. Great video!
Thanks for the feedback! I would definitely recommend trying to hear one in person if you’re deciding on purchasing one, it sounds a lot better in person!
This is fun but I won’t get an aftermarket exhaust on this car lol. This is one of the few cars on the market were I’d say this.
Does the valve really open and close that much on its own?
Anyone know how this compares to the Xforce Exhaust?
Hey I'm considering buying on of these for my i30n dct. Does this make the car run a bit rich or anything?
so wish we had these in uk, drive gen 1 vt atm would love to upgrade
You guys get the i30N in the UK though don’t you? I know a lot of people in the US Wish we got the i30N here
@@chrizzz619 yeah but its not quite a veloster is it haha
@@chrisweza haha that is true...
Bro, i30 N fastback! Need I say more? Super jealous over here
I like the sound of both. I plan on buying one shortly. Do these have the same rods as the turbo and turbo r? Ik those have rod issue's. I hope the n doesn't
Not sure, haven’t had any issues with mine with 2+ years of ownership
I have a 2020 VN w/PP. My stock exhaust sounds pretty nice. Sorry, but I am not sold on the Borla after this video. I usually run mine open.
Yea I agree, videos don’t do justice, I say if you’re on the edge try and hear one in person the difference is super noticeable and worth it I’m my opinion
So my Veloster n I just bought is straight piped and is way too loud for me, I am going to put an exhaust on it, is there a lot of drone with this exhaust? The drone is terrible with a muffler delete
Eyeballing this exhaust right now. Just bought a 2022 last night and the previous owner did a really shitty res delete, leaving the exhaust tips uneven. Drives me up a wall lol. I think the black tips are really sleek, and overall, it sounds great. Would you still recommend it today?
definitely
i need that wing..
Hello, where did you get the mudflaps from?
Car sounds just as good with a high flow downpipe on stock exhaust tho, and actually gains performance... With BOTH it'd be even better tho lol very well done video. Just make sure to do performance upgrades before vanity upgrades
Definitely! even tho with any bolt on mod you won’t get as much performance out of it until you get a pro tune, but all that is hopefully coming soon :)
@@chrizzz619 nice! Yeah I'm going to get a Forge intercooler, rear motor mount, bov, shift plate, and tune here soon myself. The car is great with just intake and exhaust but it will be so much better haha
Does this fit on a Kona N? Site only shows veloster
Man I really starting to love with this car. Really considering getting rid of my 13 Camaro SS
I own one. It's awesome, amazing handling, but get ready for significantly less power homie.
A camaro SS or ZL1 is my absolute dream car! Out of genuine curiosity, what would make you ever consider going from an SS to a Veloster N?
@@warrenbutson8491 poor MPGs, higher insurance and maintenance there is also the possibility of his camaro having a major issue
@@nothing9271 yeah I suppose those things are true... I just always seemed to have this idea in my head that having a big American V8, especially a camaro is like the top tier you can achieve but you also must work up to it. That's why I've never heard someone say they wanted to move away from something like it down to a small 4cyl but your reasons do make sense 👍 thanks!
@@nothing9271 To be fair, if you get on it in a VN, the mpgs aren't all that great. One of the car's weak points, but man do those pops make up for it imo.
So when opening and closing the exhaust does it work the same for the aftermarket exhaust as the stock one where you can control it from the car?
Yes works the same as the stock exhaust system
Hey where do you find the "N" rally armor mud flaps. I've found it once but could never find it again
I got them from a Canadian dealership. Got them shipped out to me
That’s it I’m going to the dealership
Love how you deleted the red accents idk why they ever decided thinking that it was a good look because nah but how much was it to have someone do that?
Yea I like the red but wanted to try something different, I actually did it myself, The sides and back I put black 3m wrap, and the fronts I painted with plasti dip, I removed the red trim pieces from the car from the front and back but kept the sides on the car when I did it. It’s a bit hard cus I’m no wrap expert but it’s definitely doable :)
I need this on my DCT, the muffler downgrade on the DCT is so sad. and It should fit since nothing underneath is different, only the front end has differences I'm p sure
Yea I’ve read that the DCT exhaust is much quieter! Let me know if the exhaust fits on the DCT!
Hey I was wondering seeing that you’re in California like myself, does it ever feel overly loud in normal/eco mode cruising? I’m close to pulling the trigger on the borla exhaust but I don’t want it to be overwhelmingly loud when I need to be subtle especially in Irvine lol
I just put this exhaust on this week, in normal mode it is definitely louder than the stock normal mode but is not as loud as stock n mode. still pretty chill in normal mode. noise and vibration in the cabin go down quite a bit.
@@spencertasso1533how about n mode, is it a lot louder or?
Honestly it was similarly loud to when I just had a resonator delete probably a tad louder, but sounded so much better
1:9 for perfect low Axl sound
Question for you! I just had mine installed on my 2021 Veloster N and when the valve is closed its not fully closed and it makes a rattling sound. Do you know if this is normal?
Yea, I think I answered your question on my other video just now? But yea the valve isn’t fully closed only when you rev it is when it closes, and mine rattles as well, a fix is by replacing the spring that controls the valve to a stronger one.
How is the drone at highway speed with the Borla and closed valves?
I get ZERO drone with this exhaust, it’s amazing!
Hey man! I have a question. Is there any drone at 35 mph to 80 mph with the valves closed?
Nope I don’t get any drone at all :)
@@chrizzz619 Awesome, thanks! :D
QUESTION: Does this void the warranty? I have heard it might and it’s a deal breaker for me personally, I’ll be placing an order for a new veloster n shortly, I appreciate all replies!
In regards to vehicle warranty, the dealership has to prove that the mod was the resulting factor of set part breaking, for example if you’re trying to warranty a head gasket , the dealerships will have to prove that the aftermarket exhaust was the resulting factor for the head gasket breaking. That’s for any part of the vehicle.
where did you get the N Mud Flaps?? want for my N :)
From Hyundai of muskoka in Canada
Do you control the valves with something else than the buttons on the steering wheel? Is there still the 5 choices on the valves reg, sport, eco, and N?
Nothing changes from stock controls, the only thing that changes is the sound, the modes are still there to choose from the steering wheel/dash unit
@@chrizzz619 thanks bro! I was wondering cause that would’ve been a turn off for me. Love being able to change it with just a simple click on steering wheel.
2:42 best for pop up
where did you buy the mud flaps?
They are from a Hyundai Canadian dealership! The mudflaps are exclusive to Canada so you have to call up some Canadian Hyundai dealerships and see who’s willing to ship them to you or find someone that lives in Canada that’s willing to get them for you. I got mine from Hyundai of Muskoka.
Forgive me for being less knowledgeable but would you still get the pops like this with a modded exhaust like the borla? I love the pops but want the stock exhaust to be a bit louder
You’re good no worries :) but yes you still get pops like the stock exhaust, they’re more frequent for me than the stock exhaust pops and definitely louder with the borla exhaust
Awesome. This was my question. Great video.
Can this exhaust be used on a 2021 Hyundai i30 sedan active model ?
I am not sure. I personally would contact borla and ask them. I know someone used an i30N exhaust on a veloster N with some modifications but I’m not sure about this one. Try contacting borla and asking them!
Can you drop a link for those mud flaps?!
I have no actual link, I got them by calling a Canadian Hyundai dealership and had them shipped out to me
The borla exhaust doesn’t use the stock exhaust interface right?
So the borla exhaust has its own valve, what you transfer from the old exhaust is the Valve actuator, this is what opens the exhaust based on the mode you are in, so you do keep the option to change the valve position through the screen or by changing from eco (closed), normal to N mode (fully open) or custom (your choice)
@@chrizzz619 ok that is insanely awesome, I’m trying to get a veloster n dct sometime next year and I was considering aftermarket valved exhausts but I love the stock interface
I think the stock sounds better

Do you get any power gains?
Minimal if any, probably get more gain from the weight reduction, you’ll need a tune to maximize your gains
Did you get a tune for the pops?
i know i’m 2 years late and you probably know this but it pops from factory🤣
Where did you get N mud flap? Is it N Performance product?
