This actually kinda makes sense because the STI is 4K more than the veloster N and the JB4 costs around 600 bucks so it puts it a little closer to a dollar for dollar comparison. If they put a stuffed turbo in the veloster N it might actually be extremely close in terms of price, although you start to have to actually tune the car at that point so it might be a 1k difference.
@@eternalrogue832 I'd agree with you 5 years or more ago. But Hyundai has really stepped up. From 2019 to present their performance and styling have come a long way. @@octpumpkin3355 That doesn't mean there won't be a new lawsuit started. Add the Cobb stage 1 plus intake/tune to Subie… I crossed shopped both of these cars first of year. Hyundai dealers where not dealing so I bought new STI. Very happy I did especially for resale value. ;).
Sure the AWD Factor can't be denied off the line. Like in my mk7 Golf R. But a stock 2021 N with DCT, proper launch control, and NGS overboost would be closer from a dig. And likely take the STI in a roll
The veloster N is a 276 hp 260 ft lb 2.0T. The Subaru STI is a 310 hp 290 ft lb 2.5T. The awd and slight power advantage goes to the subaru but it is heavier. Thats why with a stage 1 tune the veloster N makes 335 hp 320 ft lbs and you can clearly see the 250 pounds and the 25 hp let the veloster walk the sti. There are tunes out now for the Veloster N that give you around 345 hp 330 ft lbs with no bolt ons. I have seen 5.0 seconds with the manual stock with an upgraded set of tires. Now the newer cars also have the DCTs as an option, come with sport cup tires, and have NGS overboost that gives you 10 hp and 15 ft lbs of torque for 20 seconds. 286 hp and 298 ft lbs of torque when you press it. Otherwise you have 276 hp and 289 ft lbs. The sonata N with 290 hp with the 8 DCT and upgraded tires are pulling off 4.8 second 0-60s so there is no reason why the veloster wont be in the mid 4 second range with the automatic.

The Veloster N is nice but it would have been cool to see a stock Veloster N without the JB4 tune. The JB4 tune gives it a lot of extra power And if the STI beat it too much stock they should have raced the WRX instead of the STI. Good video though.

The sti comes out ahead on standing start as all wheel drive always shines there, but once the cars are rolling the reduced drive train losses of the two wheel drive Hyundai allow it to wind up quicker than the Sti. On top of that, everything being equal, an auto will always come out on top in a drag race.

I'm not too shocked to see an STi lose a roll race. Its primary advantage is its grip, apart from that the car isn't suited to driving in a straight line with its stock transmission gear ration
The STi driver's shifts were really good, but he should've used I mode (intelligent mode, lower than sport mode) for the first run to make it more fair.
So fun seeing that grin on your face beating the STi haha. Would’ve been easy to turn off JB4 and do a roll race then we can really see the difference it makes. Nice work 👍🏼

STI stock is sub 5 second 0-60 with good launches and will be consistant and 1/4 mile well.into the 13's. The gearing and drivetrain make the STI a great accelerating car. Made that tuned hyundai look.slow
It is evident from the sound that the N also has an exhaust. Now tune the STI, up the boost from the factory 14psi to 21psi, full exhaust and go again. That would then be even matched.

Why do people even comapre stock STIs? The STI is a car which can do 800 wheel on stock gearbox, and is a car in which you can rape Ferraris and all the rest. The STI is built by Subaru to be perfected by the owner!
Equal power and drivers, FWD VS AWD, FWD will always win...It has less weight, as well as more power per driven wheel to work with, with less driveline loss. I saw it happen all the time with the Eclipses GS-T vs Eclipse GSX. In a roll-on, the FWD would always win. At the drag strip, they would lose but have serious trap speed.
I also cant wait until they releasr the rear mid engined car that has the 2.5T and awd. They are also going to put the 2.5T in other N cars with upgraded tune and calibration with different internals. They are working on prototypes since last year. They are looking at the 350 hp benchmark.

Stock for stock I smoke it from the dig and the roll also I raced bikes and have been driving for 30 years so my gear changes are on point which is crucial in a manual car. I’m quite sure this race has many variables as the drivers may not be shifting great or shifting at the right moment but I can bet my left testicle stock for stock the sti has it beat on both roll and dig. Tunes always improve topend and there is a lot more load on an awd vehicle when speeds get higher unless you have loose surface or less traction. Fwd cars just turn me off to be honest as I’ve owned a couple when younger and the feeling you get driving one is stressful especially when the road has cor ers and camber off camber etc. rear wheel drive or awd only

Good match up, I feel that the only difference is that awd on take off, awesome racing

Stock vs stock would’ve made more sense
This actually kinda makes sense because the STI is 4K more than the veloster N and the JB4 costs around 600 bucks so it puts it a little closer to a dollar for dollar comparison. If they put a stuffed turbo in the veloster N it might actually be extremely close in terms of price, although you start to have to actually tune the car at that point so it might be a 1k difference.

Sure the AWD Factor can't be denied off the line. Like in my mk7 Golf R. But a stock 2021 N with DCT, proper launch control, and NGS overboost would be closer from a dig. And likely take the STI in a roll
That STi has a near 20yo engine in it. I’d be surprised if the Veloster didn’t win a roll race.
The manual transmission is difficult to use while racing
Only if youre a noob.
Was hoping it was the new DCT. Good runs though. Can't wait for the video of the DCT model. Also can't wait for the Elantra N DCT. I'm eyeing on that in the near future(all because of 4 doors).
Why not just buy a real sports sedan ? Lol
Which makes my point for me about the volobster... A 4 door will out sell it again with the same tuning package easy...
@@edpenkalski8937 yup. The Veloster N will slowly fade away and discontinued. Elantra N will replace it. I think it was not smart to make the VTN. It wasn't already doing well as they wanted to. The Elantra N/i30 N was already in Europe and successfully doing well. They should of just brought that here. I myself didn't specifically get the VTN because it was a 3 door. If it was the Elantra N from the beginning I would of been one of the 1st person to purchase one. 100%. But ya I can see the VTN being discontinued and the Elantra N will replace it. It also doesn't help the Kona N will be out. The VTN will definitely not survive. Oof!!
I couldn't agree more .. there are a lot faster and practical 3 doors or hot hatches if you want to call them that.. the golf r can be tuned to 500 hp with a few supporting mods and it has twice the passenger space and cargo space of the volobster.. and then there's the civic type r ...

Stock for stock, N falls flat
Cool, please try this with Elantra N next.
Interesting how in the dig race once the both got going they were going at the same level and no one was catching up to each other but on the roll race the veloster walks the sti
Nah vloter was seen gaining on the wrx at higher speeds.
Veloster N is approx. 13.5 sec. 1/4 mile car, as is the STI and both Seem to cross that line ar approx. 105mph, so on paper by the pro driver tests, they're the same.. it seems theoretically, they should be very close in a roll race too.. but here we see a difference in that. Was sti keeping a lower gear to the roll start speed ?.. Korean's are building Cars with German Engineers now, soooo Dam Cool Cars Now !!

Yes, because on paper the 0 to 60 on a Veloster N supposed to be 5.5 compared to the sti that is 6.0. I just paid of my 2019 Veloster N it has only 17 thousand miles, don’t know if I’m going to keep it or get rid of for another car. But the N is very fun to drive specially how the road feels with the track mode.
I'm not too shocked to see an STi lose a roll race. Its primary advantage is its grip, apart from that the car isn't suited to driving in a straight line with its stock transmission gear ration
Yes stock vs stock sti will win. I raced a veloster n the other day with my sti and took it to gapplebees
i've never lost to an STI in my stock N on a roll.. EVER
you must've caught em in ECO mode bruh
The STi driver's shifts were really good, but he should've used I mode (intelligent mode, lower than sport mode) for the first run to make it more fair.

That would then be even matched.
no exhaust the car comes like that brand new varex valves in the muffler

The Veloster shines on track not a drag car ,but very quick ,I take the N ,maybe because i own one .
I wouldn't trade my N for that Subaru ever. Performance aside, I see those Subarus everywhere. I've owned my N for 2 years and have only seen 2 others on the road. I get compliments on mine almost every time I drive it. It is so much fun to drive!

Would do a lot more with catless downpipe.
@@pincheadam that or the DCT version would probably take it, even from a dig.
even a stock veloster N would beat a STi from a roll.....STi makes like 230-240 whp and Veloster makes like 250-260 WHP and weighs way less
Its the front wheel drive. Note the enhine bounce from first to second and the wheel slippage. The N has more usable HP to the wheel
Stock VN don’t make no where near 250-260 whp stock. They make anywhere from 225-237
Honestly I would take both of them. Would seem nice seeing them both in the garage.

I own a stock sti 2019 and here in australia we get the i30n no veloster n but same platform and motor and a friend has one.
Fwd cars just turn me off to be honest as I’ve owned a couple when younger and the feeling you get driving one is stressful especially when the road has cor ers and camber off camber etc. rear wheel drive or awd only
I'm sorry my guy but I have to say it - the shifting needs work. Slow to disengage, overall have your foot off the gas for what seems like a full second, RMPs are all over the place. You also completely missed the shift into 2nd on the first pull at 3:18 - You can hear rev limiter. Shouldn't have even shown that run.
Veloster is 2.0 so it is impressive compared to 2.5 sti. Also sti is faster with the launch only because it is awd.
