I might add, for 4 oz (1/16 in) a good pair of scissors can cut the round corners easier than cutting with the utility knife. Chuck makes cutting leather look easy, but it isn't although the water buffalo is easier than some other leathers. Chuck, maybe you could show how to cut a slot with just a hole punch and ruler. Also show how to cut the round ends just using a utility knife. Not everyone can afford oblong or round-end punches, especially somebody just starting off. I'm retired and do leather work as a fun and profitable hobby, but II only have one oblong punch and no end punches. This is an easy purse to make and you show a very good process of how to do it.

Thank you for this series showing how to make the pattern with clear explanation plus the cutting and stitching. So very helpful. My question since I am new to leatherwork is since you are using Chrome tanned leather, shouldn't the inside of the bag be lined with something to protect the items inside or is it so minimal, there will be no ill effects? Again, thank you for the little class. It was very helpful!
Hello! You certainly can add a liner if you prefer but the chrome tanned leather shouldn't affect anything in the bag. It's not like a sheath or holster where the metal is tight against it all the time. Thank you for watching! :)
Hi Ted! Ha! Centering a hole punch! It may look like they’re well centered but, if they are, it’s an accident! I don’t have a good tip here because we can’t see through the punch to see if it’s hitting our mark, and, it’s worse with the larger punches. It’s probably just experience. Keep punching and you’ll get comfortable with it too!
Great video , can a person stick the pattern to the back of leather Using temporary spray adhesive? I downloaded a pattern and Was just wondering it that would work ? Thanks
Lowes sells it, it's in the paint department with all the other tape. The name of it is "Slip Resistant Tread" by 3M, yep the description is the name and it doesn't even have the word tape on the package. lol
Hi Ken, I haven't had any problems with it scratching the leather! It's such a big help to keep the straight edge in place you're cutting or marking the leather.

What size oblong punch should i use for the buckle slot? Ok, i see the tool list, 1 inch oblong.
Any tips on centering the punch holes? I always feel like mine are off but you're so quick and relaxed about it! Lol

I haven't had any problems with it scratching the leather! It's such a big help to keep the straight edge in place you're cutting or marking the leather.
what are the best punches to purchase
Chuck - why rivets on one end of the strap and chicago screws on the other?
i would assume its so that the straps can be replaced if needed.
