    In this chapter, we will be assembling our purse by setting our closure, adding our buckle to the strap and attaching the strap to our purse. Chuck is using a Loxx® Fastener as the closure on this bag.

    I LOVE this! Could you possibly make a purse with a liner that has pockets? I have NO idea how it’s done and my daughter is dying for me to make her a purse! Thank you for all that you do! Your videos are AMAZING! 😁

    These videos have been so much help! Literally dove in head first to leatherworking and just from these videos I've learned so much :) definitely boosted my confidence to try more involved projects!

    I have made a few of these using 5-7oz veg tanned leather. They are rigid and I’m using them as a bushcraft style pouch. Thank you

    Heya Chuck - maybe you read this comment on that older video - just quick: You've got a fan over in Germany ;) And because of you, I started crafting and made a knife sheath from scratch - don't ask hrhr - yet it works :) When I watch you it all looks pretty easy - yet, it isn't in the beginning until you learn to know your tools, muscle memory etc - but it keeps getting better. Also a lot because of you and your tips n tricks - appreciate it a lot - and you even made me spending 50 bucks shipping costs, just to get your chisels and bevelers ;) Take care and keep it coming! Germany out.

    This is excellent! It isn’t as difficult as I imagined it would be. I hope to make a bag soon.

    Good job Chuck. I have made several things out of this very leather. It is my go to for many projects. Just a quick question. What about adding some of the plastic sheeting as a bag stiffener with a light suede liner? Thought about that when you said something about the bag being soft at the end of your video. I really like this design and I think I'm going to use it to make a bag similar to yours with just a few differences. Because of the leather texture I tend to make my straps doubled over and stitched so they won't stretch and they have more body. Anyway thanks for your enthusiasm I've been working leather for a couple years now and you've really been an inspiration.

    Hi Chuck, great series video's here. While i am very happy with this one, I was more interested in a bag that has a front panel and a back panel with a closure flap or lid and a gusset that goes all the way around from one side, around the bottom and up the other side. I am mostly making bags such as messenger and book bags at this time, Ive had a bit of success on them but I strugle with going around the corners. I use a Leather machine company class 4-25 King Cobra for stitching and I want to be able to make a design that will allow me to easily go around the corners. I round my corners but I tend to blow out one or both on the larger back panel and then end up re-sewing and cleaning up my mistakes which i can do but it is heck trying to clean up those edges after the fact. i'd rather avoid all that trouble if possible. I use 277 thread on both my top thread and my bobbins and usually use 8-10 oz. veg tanned from either Wickett and Craig or Herman Oak and use a 4-6 Oz. of the same brand leather for the gusset. The strap is also usually 8-10 Oz. as well.

    The kit for this purse is a bargain! I bought it especially to have the templates. But there is no excuse to not sit down and make this bag since all of the hardware (those Loxx fasteners are awesome!) are included. And it's not like there are 6 rivets-no you get a whole bag lol!. With everything in the box and the videos waiting, there is no procrastination.
    I had to slow you down to .75 speed, Chuck so I could follow your instructions :-). I recommend the kit to everybody as once you follow along with it, branching out into variations is a whole lot easier for beginners!

    Chuck,
    I really enjoy how you present your content during your videos. You make leather design and construction of your projects very easy to follow.
    I have not worker with chrome tan leather before, and I could not help but notice there was no cement used to secure the leather together before you stitched the project together.
    Is it recommended not to use cement on chrome tan leather or you preferred not to on this project.
    Would you share that information?
    Thank you for you time and your excellent video’s and knowledge.

      You can absolutely use cement on chrome tanned leather, Chuck just preferred not to on this one because the gusset is sometimes hard to keep in the right place even with glue.

    I know this has been up awhile, but as I'm just starting out in leathercraft... anyhow, I just finished using the guide to make a Christmas gift for my wife. This was my first large scale project (beyond a couple of face masks and a belt or two). It came out a bit rough but I'm fairly happy with it as a first go.

    I modified Chuck's overall design a bit by widening the bottom to three inches and hiding the stitches by sewing it inside out and then turning it. Overall I think my wife will love it. I want to try the leggings and cape Chuck did next.

    Do you have patterns to sell? I love that, I would like that flap shorter and the height just a little shorter. How about a center divider? That is beautiful!

    Hey Chuck, I've made two of these purses and love the look and ease. However, my stitches at the top of the purse are tearing. I have gone back and added 1/4 " rivets to reinforce them. They seem to work. I want to make some bigger purses and wish to avoid this issue. Any other suggestions or guidance? Thanks.

    Chuck, I bought this kit recently and was wondering to make it longer do I need to change anything on the gussets except the length??

    • @WeaverLeatherSupply
      @WeaverLeatherSupply  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Joe,
      As long as the width and all is staying the same you won’t have to change anything else but the length on the gussets.

    I seriously think Weaver has better hardware and videos than Tandy. They gave me stuff in a kit with no instruction on it.

    Most right handed women are going to wear their purse on their left shoulder. So the buckle needs to be on the left side of the bag as you are facing it (your left, the right side of the bag). So you did it correctly, but said it does not matter, it does matter to most women.

      So, when the bag strap is across the shoulder, do you want the buckle in front of the persons body or the back of the persons body?

    • @susiessoapstuff1459
      @susiessoapstuff1459 5 лет назад +1

      @@mikeswaim2670 You want it in front so you can use the other hand to adjust the strap.

      I always wear a shoulder bag over my right shoulder and across the torso so that the bag hangs by my left hip.
