The 3 main contenders IMHO for the seat are Werhlein, Alonso, Bottas. If Merc want to play it safe, go for a guy they know, clear No.2 as to not ruffle Hamilton's feathers, it's Werhlein. If they want a driver that can take the battle hard for the champ and keep the RBs and Ferrari's at bay, Alonso. Of course, they need to splash the cash to buy him out of the contract. Toto is part of Bottas' management team, he's an established driver, quick, level-headed, good enough to keep Hamilton on his toes and maintain the team equilibrium. On the fan's side, for the show, Alonso in a Merc would be pretty awesome, since you can tell the chapter is not over between him and Hamilton.

@@faugusto1983 no. It's called a smart decision. He chose to retire with loads of money for the sake of his sanity and family. Beating Lewis is already hard in itself. Nico was very brave.
I was surprised, but I do understand that winning one championship was his only goal and he would like to spend more time with his family. Plus, I believe that means my favourite driver Hamilton will have a calmer year next year, and I would love to see who will be driving alongside him next year, plus even already thinking that 2017 will be good along with the inclusion of the films being released (like Cars 3, the Frozen Christmas special, Despicable Me 3, My Little Pony: The Movie, Smurfs: The Lost Village, Star Wars: Episode VIII, Pirates of the Caribbean 5, The LEGO Batman Movie, etc.).
yeah alonso...and then what? same as 2007 when because of their personal struggles both ended without the championship? no man...mercedes needs a pilot who's not gonna give any issue to hamilton...like the most probably one, wherlein

That is very true, but we know that McLaren will be in a similar position next year as this year. Mercedes may very well no longer be on top next year, from the sounds of it Red Bull will be up there with them. But Alonso said that he will leave if it doesn't get more fun so if he stays at McHonda, it could be his last year. Terrible luck for Hulkenberg once again though, I think he would have been one of the top contenders especially coming from FI. Vettel may be an option, he seems to not be optimistic about Ferrari next year but I don't know the length of his contract. Wherlein could be an option but I'm not sure if Mercedes would take him straight from Manor with only a year of experience.
TorrentialTech yeah. i too think werhlien is a bit unlikely for the seat coz though he has been good on some tracks, he has not been consistent and mercedes need consistency with redbulls right up their ass.
He left at the top of his abilities... And that's why his opinion is so relevant! What he has to say about modern F1 is a notch higher than Brundle or Anthony Davidson cuz he raced with half the people on the grid using the current power units and tires. Well, the tires are a bit different but still similar. But ya, HUGE insight, always interesting! Love it!
+joao soares what are you talking about? Valtteri is the best one for Williams. He has beaten every team mate he has had. He is really really fast, one of the quickest man in qualifying, he scores points, he doesn't do mistakes and he is quite young. Why the hell would they want Alonso? Just look at 2007 and the fact that he is not a good long term driver
Ved Singh I thought he was talking shit about NICO because he won the drivers championship and retired and didn’t let Hamilton reply next season and i said that they drove about 20 races and in the end Nico was victories so no need for reply for Hamilton after that season
Just a wild thought, what u think about Mercedes offering one year drive for Button? He would probably be relatively cheap to buy out from McLaren contact, he has worked with Lewis before and scores points consistantly, they know what they will get. The only thing is his motivation, but I guess it might incrase if he was offered this top drive. Having said that, I think Wehrlein will get the drive, but this is just a scenario I thought about.
Smart decision. His image as an F1 driver won't have a chance to degrade, he'll always be remembered as "that one guy who beat Lewis after being faster than Schumacher". He would never top that.
Pascal is the man we need. I'm a Lewis fan but it's sad that Nico is deciding to retire. But we have to respect his decision. He wants to be with his family and I have nothing but respect for that. If you ever decide to come back Nico you are more than welcome!

Bye Nico, thank you for everything! 👍😉
I really like Nico ... He is a simple, kind man , smart and with a certain natural elegance , I regret not seeing him anymore, I miss him in F1 .... 👍🏻
So weird seeing him on the german version of shark tank now xD
Well done Nico,.. no harm whatsoever to take the trophy and run with it; respect.
😂😂😂right
Daniel may very well be the most awesome creature ever to live in our galaxy.
Pepsi Cheese what a flip
Much respect for Nico.. giving others a chance to fulfill their childhood dream.
Miss this guy... ♥
Whenever I see Daniel Ricciardo I smile. Idk, he has great vibes even thru a screen haha
Like many already said, "You either die as a hero, or live long enough as a villain". In this case, you go out when you still on top and be remembered as a champion, rather than anything else..A Wise choice in my opinion
Nah they didn't publish the Hamilton (first time his won in 18 years)
Imagine the banter we could have had
Maldonado to Mercedes!
Rosberg: Imma do a James Hunt.
I absolutely love how he never ignores Lewis' skills and acknowledging he was hard to beat while Lewis always blames the car.
Lewis : ignores Rosberg , doesn’t even congratulate him .
I am happy for Nico, because he made a Brave decision, but i am also sad because we are going to lose a great driver and a great person :')
@@faugusto1983 no. It's called a smart decision. He chose to retire with loads of money for the sake of his sanity and family. Beating Lewis is already hard in itself. Nico was very brave.
Having retired 2 weeks ago at the age of 42, I can relate to this in a number of ways.
I miss nico
It's always best to go out when you're on top.
Retirement of Nico is the reason of LH titles 2017-2020.
Big shoes? ALONSO is the man to fill them!
Lord Yllsacky oh no... no.. no
yeah alonso...and then what? same as 2007 when because of their personal struggles both ended without the championship? no man...mercedes needs a pilot who's not gonna give any issue to hamilton...like the most probably one, wherlein
Solis190491 They have both moved on since then
Alonso is going nowhere. McLaren will move heaven and earth to keep him in their shitbox.
Lucian P Dude Alonso is probably the best driver to put in Mercedes, if he actually goes there Hamilton will have a HARD time creeping up
Best wishes for you Nico!
So proud of Nico... The only one that gave me some happiness on Mercedes's dominance
What a reaction but all can respect his decision & wished him all the best for his future life the fight was so intensiv from 2014 to 2016 it was such a excitng way for lots of Germans great Nico what a result finally you bet his fathers record but can say dad i had an title is did you but now with 31 years in the Middle of your life
Please Alonso come Mercedes like
after the tension within the team these last few years between nico and lewis, really can't see mercedes wanting alonso.
Although I want Alonso to win with McLaren, I just want Alonso to win another championship.
afa1515
u crazy? Lewis and alonso are not linking together
Lucky champ. Wont miss him or his drivning
let me guess that he will come back somewhere between season 2018 or 2020
yes it's possibru
Maybe. He's young, he'll get bored of life without F1, and watching Lewis win the next titles will motivate him to race again
Sadly... He's still not coming back now :(
Eleazar Bellrose he said between 2018-2020 it might still happen but let’s be honest *He is wrong* *CRASH* *OH ITS MALDANADO*
Nope
Miss you.
Please let Alonso come to Mercedes
TorrentialTech Alonso is allowed to leave McLaren, vettel not. Hope one year contract for Alonso and then Wehrlein
TorrentialTech have you forgot 2007 he is not going to be allowed to be lewis' teamate
TorrentialTech yeah. i too think werhlien is a bit unlikely for the seat coz though he has been good on some tracks, he has not been consistent and mercedes need consistency with redbulls right up their ass.
It would be amazing drama and awesome to watch though ;)
What a legend! Nico retired as a champion! Salute!
Only 2 years away from f1 and now he's wwe 24/7 champion. Respect 😂
Love it!
I wish they would have asked Kimi about this. ”Bwoah… I don`t care”
In Germany we say "man sollte aufhören wenn's am schönsten ist" and he perfectly followed that saying
What is the meaninh?
@@iniafni9111 you should stop what you're doing when you're at the peak to not have to experience the disappointment of falling off
@@mort7987 Vettel :-(
my prediction for 2017: mercedes: Hamilton and Bottas Williams: Stroll and Wehrlein
Bottas? Are you kidding me? Im sorry but I dont consider him a very good driver to join Lewis
vjollila96 nahhhhhhhhhh
I think Haryantu should form a team with LH. They would become a very strong team
vjollila96 Perez can be a decent replacement as well. far better than Bottas i guess.
Rosberg retiring when he did is like when you dominate someone in a game and then quit before they can get revenge.
petef15
That’s just stupid because you played 20 games with him and in the END you’ve won the championship
Ved Singh
Just saying the truth
Ved Singh
Or maybe i got it wrong I don’t know
Ved Singh
I thought he was talking shit about NICO because he won the drivers championship and retired and didn’t let Hamilton reply next season and i said that they drove about 20 races and in the end Nico was victories so no need for reply for Hamilton after that season
Dominate ? It's still 2-1 between them in the championship stakes, he quit because he couldn't bear to come up short in future.
Nico actually decided to retire when he saw Max in his mirrors on Interlagos. "This competition aint cool no more"
Ricciardo's smile is very infectious.
Merc should get Daniel R , fucking great driving duo Daniel and Lewis
Cristiano Ronaldo Luis?? LUIS???? ITS LEWIS FFS
TheExploding Emerald sorry English is my second language didn't mean to offend anyone .
Wish you the best Nico.
Wehrlein isn´t good enough to drive against lewis
Such a great character! Wish him all the best in the future!
If you ever decide to come back Nico you are more than welcome!
bye Nico you are a great man and an inspiration, you didn't give up until you get your goal, being champion beating one of the best.. congratulations from a Lewis Hamilton fanatic !!!
It's funny how Ricciardo is smiling in the thumbnail, as if he likes Nico's retirement
JustSayCJ
Ricciardo smiling is his default lol
Imagine that I he hadn't retired, F1 races would be more exciting than now.
i know it won't happen but räikkönen would be epic with mercedes :D
Nico made the right decision. He is living a hell of a life now. Hasnt looked happier.
But he still chickened out
@@jrgensenbo2999 But hes still living a much happier life
coming back I feel like this is one of those happy wife happy life moves
Alles richtig gemacht Nico!
F E R N A N D O A L O N S O
I wish Nico good luck outside F1 :)
Why is Daniel Riccardo always smiling?
Driving in a competitive F1 team. Doing what he loves and making millions. I would be laughing too lol.
Richard best reply possible, Jeremy Clarckson back when he was on top gear asked him that lmao
Alex Michel lol, yeah. It's common sense.
Erm, because he's happy ?
he wasn't smiling after that Monaco GP back in May XDDD
I miss this outro, i miss Nico as well.
Kimi's reaction: bwoah

I cant stop crying😭😞
Pascal Wehrlien for Mercedes 2017
No one's been able to push and pressure Lewis like Nico did. Bottas has his moments, but they are few and far between. IMO, Vettel, Leclarc and Verstappen are the only drivers on the grid that can really challenge Lewis, if they had equal race cars.
I hope Bottas will race for mercedes 2017
Yes, finally someone who agrees with me. Bottas is a top driver but the longer he stays at Williams the more his fire will die.
I would pick Hulkenberg over him.
Huh..
Zentti your wish is granted
Shame about the result though
Max actually being very mature in his comments.
The way the videos edited makes it look like lewis is at the ceremony in his mercedes gear wearing those weird glasses
