I ordered 5 TPMS's (including the one for the spare) from AMZ for about $45 and had them installed in Costco Tire Center for $70. They have been working well on my 05 SR5 for 6 years as of today. Will try this trick next time when needed. Great video
I wanted to personally thanks you. Took all of less than -0 minutes. The hardest part was taking some of the tape off the wire. Very easy to do. Dealership gave me an estimate of 430. Cost me zero. I had everything in and electrical tool box. Thanks again
Thank you for posting this. I have a 2004 that needed a new TPMS in the spare and two rear tires. I was quoted $300 to replace all five sensors. The splice connector on the two wires worked perfectly. Thanks for sharing
Dude, you so totally rock! THANK YOU for this amazingly simple fix that now saves me from having to keep replacing these stupid sensors on my 2004 SR5 V8 T4R at $90 a pop.
Wow! That easy, goes on today's "to-do" list for my '04 V8 Limited. Great channel for us Gen 4 T4R guys. I admire your garage collection. My garage sports an S2000 and Ducati Monster.
Huge thanks. I just bought a 2005 4Runner and of course, the TPMS light is on. I'm not inclined to install new TPMS sensors with every tire change, which would be the only way to have a fairly reliable system. I'll keep good tires on it, look at them to see that one isn't obviously low, and check the pressures a couple of times a year. I'll probably wire a small switch in there and label it TPMS - ENABLE/DISABLE.
I did the same thing on my '05 about 4 years ago. Great quick fix. But shops can't do it for you because of regulations. This video should help others, Thx
Well that worked way to well. Blinky light GONE!!!! It was driving me crazy since I recently replaced tires, wheels and sensors and still the damn blinky light would not die.
Mine has been flashing at me for several months now. I refused to spend $$$ to make the sensors work again. Thanks for making this video. I'm going to try that first thing in the morning!
Thank you, I did this on my 2004 Toyota 4 runner & the light went out. At tire shop today salesman said it would be around $90 a wheel to replace & fix the TPMS . That’s $360 for all. I’m so happy to not ever have to deal with sensors again. Merry Christmas this is a big deal to me. Again thank you 🙏😊🎄
I have an 08 4Runner and mine doesn’t have a white and black wire.... I do see the pink and black tough.. any idea what other wire aside from white it might be?
Thank you for the video. Yes, this is a super simple fix, but if you don’t know what wires to pair, then who knows how long it’d take me? So glad to have the tpms light off.
my o8 4runner does not have a white wire with a black stripe at that connector , I'm ready to pull the cluster and pull whatever makes light happen on the dash .
I'll try this, but I'm wondering if there's a way I can reset the sensor... I got new wheels and the light is flashing for 30 sec and then goes solid. Can I reset the sensor before trying this?
NB I have an 2008 V8 limited. Wire color were Pink/Black and Black/Red. Found that on web www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/258209-2008-tpms-bypass.html It did the job!
If you connect those two wires temporarily will it reset the tpms? I really would like to keep my TPMS working so I'm wondering if I can just wire a momentary switch.
No. If you wire in a toggle switch (single pole single throw), when the switch is closed (on), the TPMS system will be off. When you switch it open (off), the TPMS will be on. You can route the switch up into the glovebox. You can toggle it when the car is running and it still works - but a momentary switch would do nothing here
@@CanadianGearhead I am quite sure. I thought maybe it didn't get through the insulation so I shaved back a little bit and put the splice back on, no go. You leave the plastic connector disconnected after splicing, or do you plug it back in? I tried both ways. Another video suggested a jumper on plug and leaving it undone but I haven't tried that yet
Doing this today, I got some limited rims from a 5th gen, I don’t do much off road driving and until I can get a lift I like how they look, Especially handles nice in the city and highway. But yesterday I went on a long drive and the light was blinking. Now I’m back home parked by my stock wheels and the light is off. I’m going to assume it will come on again when I go for any period of time so, I’m just gonna do this today and not have a light come on and make my heart sink cause I thought it was a check engine light at first haha 😂
Wow, your 4Runner is a twin of mine! What exhaust do you have? Seems that my tpms on the spare has gone out so my indicator light just flashes. Too bad I spent money to put new tpms on my new wheel/tire combo. Guess that was unnecessary because I'm not going to bother with the spare! Thanks for the video!
In this case you use a connector to join 2 of the wires to each other while everything remains connected. It might be a good idea to have someone with some automotive experience give you a hand.

You can route the switch up into the glovebox. You can toggle it when the car is running and it still works - but a momentary switch would do nothing here
