  • In this video I try to figure out if I have been notching the arrows correctly and begin to test out the bow in the blind for early doe season.

Awesome video buddy. I changed the cables and string on my Barnett XP400 last night because the serving was starting to separate and the cables were fraying. The first time I've ever did it on any of my crossbows. I was extremely surprised with how well it went. I set the cam lean and timing and axle to axle distance all by myself. And when I cocked it and fired it, it was still on target . I hit the same spot as the last arrow before changing to new string and cables. I have a bow shop 1/2 a mile from my house but I prefer to do any work to my stuff myself. It saves me money and I learn how to work on crossbows. Of course RUclips played a big part in my success. I think I'll hold off on buying the hyper raptor for now. There's just too many features that don't suit me. But, anyways stay safe and good luck this season.

Does your hyper raptor sound like there is something rattling around in the trigger mechanism? I know the trigger itself Moves around a bit. But there is something in mine that sounds loose. I engaged the mechanism and released it and it seems to be working fine. I haven't shot it yet though. I wanted to ask you about this first. I was just wondering if yours was like mine. Thanks

UPDATE: My CCD broke. The locking lugs for the crank totally sheared themselves into dust within 5 shots.
Thank you for making these follow up videos - you should continue the series so we can see the progression of the crossbow and how it holds up!
I will be taking mine out for the first time today (sighting in)

Thanks it's hard to remember all I want to say and show but I'll keep trying! Let me know if there is anything you have questions about! Obviously lighted nocks is a big one but hopefully next week I can finish that video

Dealing with the same crossbow, have you had any luck shooting any other bolt or nock from the Barnett raptor 410?

Hope you all the success in the field. I just got a new crossbow this year after six years on my old one I got a Barnett ex350 a true budget crossbow but 450 grain zombie slayers are flying 350 fps over the chronograph so she’ll do the job. Good luck and short blood trails

That's awesome! Nothing wrong with that bow!!! Speed isn't everything! I have a heading from Barnett that shoots around that and has killed like 8 deer. Best of luck with it!

I have the Hyper Whitetail and the quiver on mine can be placed either way on the bow so, I turn mine to where the knocks are forward instead of at the handle and then I remove the quiver in the blind. I've harvested two does with it this year. Loving the bow but the bolts are expensive...lol

My raptor is on its way to me now. My question for you since you have spoke at length with them. The webpage states you can use reg diameter arrows with half moon nocks! Did they mention this to you? It also states to not use headhunter lighted nocks as it will damage bow! Did they happen to mention what reg arrows and lighted nocks to us? I’m Leary a bought these thin arrows ha. Thanks

    • @fernfieldfarmsHomestead
      @fernfieldfarmsHomestead  Год назад +2

The regular arrows should be their headhunter arrows. I used one with a lighted nock and boom there went the cables and strings. I think it was more than just that though. In my opinion stick to the hyperflite arrows that came with it. Best to just not risk it in my opinion. Also I think they say online not to use the lighted half Moon nocks now. Again best to just use the hyperflite I think.

That was my fear. I don’t like small diameter arrows. Oh well I guess. Yes it says not to use headhunter lighted nocks in this bow, that’s why I asked if you knew since you had talked with them. Capture nocks wear servings shot after shot so I’m not a fan. Guess I will have no choice. Thanks for your videos and info. Much appreciated.

I just bought the hyper raptor with Crank Cocking Device because it was the only hyper raptor available. Can I still cock it with a rope cocking device and not use the Crank?

Just got my Raptor in the mail today. It now comes with warning labels all over inside the box not to use those Headhunter lighted nocks. Your video probably prompted that. Tried it with carbon express bolts, and they shot well. Higher than the Hyper Flight arrows.

That scares me that you have to put your hand up towards the front end of a loaded crossbow to get it to click in! Admittedly I have never shot a crossbow so I'm just not used to the idea of doing it...but it gave me anxiety watching you do that! lol Good video.....I have subscribed

What do you mean outside? Just so I know. I'm relatively new to this so just want to know what you mean. Crossbows are meant to be shot outside or do you just mean harder to see? Thanks for the feedback

I agree late doe season is horrible. Instead of killing 1 doe you kill 2 or 3 deer. Smh trying to wipe out as many as they can.

Too complicted, too many quirks and issues.I love my Barnett whitetail hunter str, not one problem in three years, and 3 bucks down.Too many tight turns on the string and cables plus high poundage = wear problems, just like on compound bows.
