- In today's video we sort of take a ride with the much anticipated, but unfortunately DISAPPOINTING Team Associated SR7. The most BEAUTIFUL disaster I've ever seen.
WOW !!! What a very bias review of this product. A friend of
mine sent me this video to see the car in action but you guys are totally looking for the wrong purpose from this car. When have you seen Ken Block do high speed runs ?, he was the man who invented Gymkahana, crazy drifting not high speed runs so why are you expecting a speed run car from a car built based off Ken. Also the scare tactics with the deans connectors and lipo’s are just absurd. Yes the deans shouldn’t be on there at all but it’s not going to cause the ESC to overheat, nore would it cause the motor to be hot and then you try to get speed again out of a drift car with other crap tires. I could understand if you had GRP’s or similar on there. This video has to be sponsored by Arrma. You guys can t keep it straight because you’ve lost your skills driving the Felony with its gyro assistance. What a let down from this channel.
Want an even bigger let down? Go buy the car and drive it. Tell me if it's worth your 700 dollars.
Recalled for probably those deans connectors but otherwise I don’t see an issue. It’s a drift car, you bought a $700 drift car and wanted it for speed runs. You have to build it up for that purpose but its intended purpose from TA was for drifting.others have been able to get it to go straight y correctly modifying it from what it was designed to do. Also you got 58/59mph out of it right off the bat then said it was like driving on marbles. Very contradicting it sounds like,,,,you can’t get rated speed if it kept spinning out.
Buy the car. Tell us what you think driving it then. Don't take my word for it. Buy it, drive it. Have fun
@coppermaximus - You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.
What a ridiculous comment. Do you think that if a product is recalled, there is an issue with the product?...Or even worse, maybe a safety issue? smh
@@Rek_Rc Spot on mate.
The Arrma Infraction has nothing to worry about after watching this,,, lol Great Video!!
Yep, the platform is great, but the electronics are garbage. I really appreciate you watching and taking the time to drop a line. Thank you!
The Jay and Silent Bob of RC... Love it!!!
Hahaha I hadn't thought of that, but I can see it now. That's pretty funny
it's easy to see👀 who jay would be and I would have to assume that the cameraman is silent bob
Shame really. I think the community really had high hopes for this thing. You caught all the right issues. Defo needed more R&D. Quite surprised that AE let this go out the door. One thing I have noticed is a lot of companies stop using serrated wheel nuts, that may be part of the wheel loss issue 🌈🌞😎
You nailed it. We are all so excited for this release. I think that makes the letdown even more steep and hurt just that bit more, I still have faith in Team Associated, so maybe a redo down the road will be better. If they do bring it back, I'll be first in line. The car has a good chassis and an amazing body. It's just too bad that they used those two ingredients to make a crap sandwich.
Thought it was the tires at first..........................but turns out like a $100 amazon special that went wrong. Great review. I'm a Deans fan but never ran over 3S ....Thanks for the heads up on running Deans over 3S. Great video Your the Man...............
Deans are great for 3s and under and a 60 to 80a ESC. Above that, I'd go XT90 OR EC5. I really appreciate you checking out the video and I'm glad you didn't buy this car. I hope associated will fix it and re-release it though
Wow, that’s awesome of Team Associated to do that. The servo, esc and connector definitely have to go. I changed my connector before my first run. I ran mine today with some grp on a make up road course and it did well. Looks like I’ll be shutting it down also. Great info brother.
The car has so much potential, it just seems like it was tossed together and put out there though. I'm very surprised Team Associated let it out like it is. Long time viewer of your stuff here BTW. Good work buddy
@@Rek_Rc I appreciate you brother. I’m just a laid back guy and it take a lot to get me frustrated lol but I definitely show what the car does so everyone can see. Your vids are awesome also bro.
@@UDRC85 I think we're the only channels to get an actual speed run in with it, though mine took my like 30 attempts hahahaha
@@Rek_Rc honestly I want to try again because I don’t feel I got a good run lol. My car has game a beaten already. I did run it yesterday with the tires in my last video and it did well going around cones. I may try today for a speed run. I’m sure one issue is those connectors. I never used them, I went straight to qs8.
@@UDRC85 it didn't seem like it was at max speed before your crash. I was thinking that when I watched it. It sounded like it would have spun up a bit more RPM. I think you could have done 70. I never really got the max out of mine either on stock gearing. It felt like I just couldn't hold it for that half second longer to get that last MPH or two it had left.
Reminds me of the UDI Power car I did a couple weeks back. simply undrivable. Looks great but so unstable!
It's like it's meant to be looked at more than driven
Appreciate your honest review! Team Ass should be ashamed and embarrassed about a recall for their expensive car just being flat out cheap trash. Zero smiles per mile is sad 😭
I'm shocked that an otherwise reputable good name like Team Associated would let this out to the public like that.
It always sucks when your let down by an inferior product. thanks for the honest review, and I bought an mjx truck version and that thing is a great deal for the money, have a great weekend.
We just reviewed an MJX and it was excellent! Thank you for the comment.
@@Rek_Rc I seen your review before I bought it.
it is a looker and super fast, but my gosh seems super hard to control haha! very cool video and super fun. Cheers!
Thank you! It was fun, but it got annoying after several thermal cut outs and the driving was just impossible to do with deliberate intent
@@Rek_Rc eeesh that’s frustrating.
Oh man! That stinks. Was hoping it would be good. I feel like TA is missing something in the QC dept on their last couple of big rtr rigs. The MT8 was a disappointment too.
Yeah, they have fantastic 1/10 scale stuff, some of the best actually, and of course we all know how dominant they've always been in the world of racing. But it seems like large scale 6s stuff is their Achilles heel hahahaha
Ive never liked Reedy Motors & ESC's - Have heard some nightmare stories... They make great High speed fans though. Also, what the heck were TA thinking by fitting Deans plugs!?! Electricity in general absolutely hates restriction in the initial sense, BUT, There are safe ways to restrict and then there is complete idiocy like the example here by Team Associated.
Good on you guys for pointing all of this out, I haven't seen any other reviewers do this with this car... Well done.
With a big Hobbywing system and a good Servo & Gyro (AVS) This thing would be an absolute weapon. Its a legend of a car.
Cheers guys for a great vid. - Jimbo, Australia. 👍
I really appreciate your comment. I haven't had many issues with the reedy RTR 3s system, but I've heard of other reedy systems having issues. The system in the SR7 was a castle system , so I was both surprised, and simultaneously not surprised that it had heat issues.
@@Rek_Rc 😁👍💥
I knew your channel would find success! Your passion is infectious. Keep at it!
I really really appreciate that. I appreciate you watching and interacting with us. And we'll keep smashing up cars together hopefully for a long time
Awesome looking car, that's it do far. The esc is catching fire 🔥. I saw the aftermath. Be careful watch those temps. If I get one, I'm changing everything, lol. Awesome channel.
Yep, I'm taking advantage of the recall. I think the platform is actually really good, but the electronics are not only sub par, they could be literally dangerous. BTW I really appreciate you dropping a line on my videos, I'm a fan of your channel as well.
@Rek_Rc Thanks 👍
Wow what a bummer. Such a badass looking car too... Great honest review, as always 👍🏻✌🏻
the magic from VKAR rebranded for team asso....
Excellent video. I just subscribed to your channel. 👍👍👍👍
Thank you so much! Every single one means a lot to us
Really appreciate this video. I wanted this car to be amazing, but was put off already by the deans plugs. Absolutely did not expect handling issues. Exactly the opposite, in fact.
I had such high hopes. The basic platform is actually really good so I hope they release an updated version a bit later when they get it all sorted out. It has potential, but as it is now, it's just a waste of money.
Mine has been awesome. I went through a put diff fluid in. The ESC is actually a castle ESC that was used in the axial yetis! When you hook it up to castle link it actually pops up Axial 😂 Stock servo sucks. Its gotta go. Im used to it with any RTR these days.
Also, I know these rigs now days say RTR but that means ready to repair lol. Always go through a new RTR RC!! I've yet to have any issues with stock system and I've got 69mph best. I changed connectors right off bat to xt90s.
I get what you're saying, but doing a product review on a car of this price requires some degree of blunt honesty. Team Associated should have never let that escape the facility at that price point and with those potential dangers. It's a review for a consumer, not so much an experienced hobbyist like you or I. These are experiences a general RC customer may run into. This car is a flat out disappointment for the price, especially when an Arrma felony is slightly cheaper and far less potentially dangerous, and just plain better.
I still do not want to send it back. I have not powered it up. I will up the cash for a good servo as I do on all the others. If they would swap me esc's I would be good. Need to fill diffs but again like many others. I will call them Monday.
Associated should know better than that. In my opinion deans connectors have a very limited place in the hobby anymore. There are so many better connectors. 20 years ago they were pretty good but the battery and electronic technology out there now they just can't handle it.
Perfectly put!
XT60 and XT90 should be the standard generic connectors used in the industry outside of TRX and Horizon who use their own connectors. As a RC shop owner I still have to deal with Tamiya connectors as they are still the standard in Tamiya RC kits even today with the Hobbywing ESC 🤦
If nothing else EC5/Ic5 should be industry standard
That is an extremely thin cable for running 6S I would’ve never even attempted it. Any model I get whether there is newer use same as a nitro engine. I break it down before it even has the road thank God I did this to my vendetta or it would’ve been toast on the first day nothing in the differentials or the shocks right out of the box but horizon Hobby made it right.

Someone else also said its straight lines were bad. Were those other tires belted? They looked like the cheap ones I get just for pictures. Probably should tried some GRPs or foams but I know you’re sending it back.
We were going to try some really good on road tires, but decided it wouldn't have mattered much.
Tell me you get paid for your voice, because you have a face for radio. Seriously, you gotta be a pro dj, narrator or commentator. Great review. Thanks Reks.
Hahahahah nice jab buddy. I appreciate the comment and with a face like mine, maybe radio isn't a bad idea. But yeah I do get told I sound like a DJ. Thank you for checking us out!
Such a nice looking car. It would be good for slow motion night runs. Just add some smoke. I'm just saying it looks awesome on the corners and would probably look realistic with the proper camera angle. At least you got to run it for a bit. If it's recalled are they giving you money back, or an upgraded SR7?
Amain just offered a refund to return the car. I assume they do not plan on sending them back out to customers, but i hope there will be an updated version released soon because it has loads of potential, it was just poorly done this first time around. When, and if they do re-release the car, we will be getting it as quickly as we can.
In that case you should take it to the skate park before you return it. lol @@Rek_Rc
i have seen mixed reviews on this car - some have reviewed and said that its better on 4s than it is on 6s - the "fine tuning" wasnt done to bring it up to snuff with the mentioned arrma products - they just threw a ton of power at an averagely developed chassis and said 'done!'
does the servo have a servo saver on it ? i couldnt find that info out. i am sure you know this but an out of what servo saver can really screw with your steering input, bump steer, etc etc.
look forward to seeing more on your channel
I appreciate your comment and viewership, thank you so much for giving us the time and subscribing. It means a lot to us!
Are you saying there is other straws to drink my shakes??
Edit: Great review. Subscribed.
Hahahaha, now I'm just thinking of funny straws to use on a milkshake. I really appreciate your comment, and we're happy to have you on the Rek crew!
@@Rek_Rc Thx!
FTX SupaForza all the way. Very stable. Great looking Mustang body, too!
Those connectors are fine with stock gearing….gearing up anything means upping the connector too….Deans are still one of the lightest 2-3S connectors and that’s why they’re still relevant…an XT60 or 90 has no business in my 3S B74.2
They got so hot in that car they started to warp
Does it not come with a receiver with a Gyro in it? I think this would correct most of the problems besides that Dean’s connector strapper radio link in there you’ll have all the control you need.
The servo itself is very physically weak, so even with a good gyro , it would still struggle to hold a straight line. Otherwise, your idea would work just fine.
Such a great looking beast too...sad. subbed
It really is a beautiful car. I'd like to see an updated version come back when they sort it. Thank you as well!
I didn't even know this car existed until today. Priced at £600 at my go to RC retailer. Competitive but when you can buy the FTX SupaForza for a £100 cheaper, I think price might be a factor in these selling in large numbers. Unless you really love the Hoonigan brand.
If they just took the time to use better electronics, it would have been an amazing car. But they really dropped the ball on the servo and ESC. So much so that there was a recall.
$700! You are right to call out TA. They should be paying you. I would rather go the custom route, saw a Licensed Hoonigan body on an Arrma Vendetta. Only 3S but I could easily make it 6S. IDK, I'll wait to see TA release the version 2. Like you said TA is a good RC company
I do love TA, and like you, I'd like to see an updated version of this car get released soon
My local hobby shop told me about the recall yesterday. I called Team Associated customer service & they claimed to know nothing about a recall. I purchased mine from Horizon & the support from them is bad. How were you notified?
Amain Hobbies emailed us, and many others who bought the car.
@@Rek_Rc Thanks for the info. Horizon hobby has done nothing to inform me about this. I only found out because my hobby shop was pulling the SR7 off the shelf while I was in there picking up connectors to replace the deans. They said Amain wanted it shipped back. I haven't even pulled mine out of the box yet... I see the SR7 is now out of stock on the Associated website & not expected back until mid August. Amain has pulled it off their site completely. This is really not a good look for TA... Salute!
Well, that stinks. The other channels I've seen this car on had a few issues, but seemed to run ok after some diff service. That thing with the servo is crazy though.. I think you found the main issue, but I wouldn't try to go fast on those tires. Especially for what that thing costs! 😬 I'll probably just stick with the 1/10 scale version
The 1/10 scale version is 10 times the car ultimately, because you can actually drive it.
Depends on your amp draw. 100amps peak 60 continuous. Ive tested and logged this.
At 170peak - 110amp average for 3 back to back 5second pulls on 6s, the connector hover in the 120°f range on a 76° day.
Same test same day. On 4s geared up 40% changes 140 amps peak - 82amps average average. Deans were 84°f.
So Most 4s vehicles are going to be fine with this amp range in mind.
6s easily takes the current draw to a new level. The deans cant sustain 5second+ pulls over 80amps.
Nice comment and I agree with you 100%. It's not the amount of cells, it's the sustained amps
ZD Racing EX 07 with a Spektrum DX3 AVC radio is what I drive.
That's a pretty good combo
@@Rek_Rc For power I use Hobbywing 4268 2200kv and 8bl150 all on 6s, I get controlled drifts with the AVC. The car is under rated. I use a 25kg servo and deleted the hand brake.
Will the body fit the armma infraction etc?
Absolutely it would!
In my experience, Deans are good up to 3S. After that, 4S and up will melt those puppies!
Yep, deans are fun for 3s but no more than that.
Never melted deans on 4s people just don't know how to setup their cars properly
Try running deans on 6s and see how that works out. I've had them melt on 3s as well with a 100a ESC on a bone stock RC without modifications. Point is, it's all relative to the car, but generally always a bad idea to run deans connecters on 6s.
Deans work up to 3s...some idiot once made up that saying and now everyone repeats it. As if the voltage had something to do with the plug size. So you can run 1/10 with 160a ESC on Deans without any problem, but a 6s setup with 150a ESC should burn ? 🤦🏻♂️ and the motor gets hot because the plug is too small, and of course not because it is much too small 😂😂😂
Deans are fine for 3s, it's not the amount of cells that can melt a deans plug, it's amp draw. 60 to 80a if fine for deans on 3s. At 100a you're going to start getting some heat, beyond that, you might start seeing enough heat to cause damage, or you might not, it depends how hard you drive. But for an onroad fast heavy car on 6s, deans are almost comical to have. My SR7 was so hot you couldn't even pick it up and hold it from the bottom of the chassis though and one of the plugs did warp, and the batteries were not far from terminal damage with how hot they got
Check your diffs, all 3 of mine had almost zero oil in them. Car is much more controllable with oil in the diffs.
I only had that car for 4 days. Amainhobbies recalled it, so I sent mine in.
@Rek_Rc I ordered mine direct from associated, they haven't sent me anything about a recall, but I swapped connectors the day I got it and the servo shortly after my first drive, thankfully haven't had any issues with the motor or esc
Hey man, new subscriber here, a fellow long hair lol. I wish I knew if this was all they recalled this for. I bought one from team associated too but haven’t heard crap about a recall. Any suggestions for a servo? I hate sending stuff back, if changing the servo and plug ends will fix this I’ll probably just do it
I think any servo at about 20Kg or more of appropriate size and decent speed would be fine, even a budget spec servo would be fine as long as it's metal geared. As far as the connectors go, swapping to EC5 or XT90 would help matters, but I'm also not sure that ESC is quite strong enough for that motor and gearing in a car of that size. A 1/10 or 1/8 scale car would suit those electronics just fine apart from the deans plugs, but I think a large 1/7 scale which is a bit heavy and fast, is a bit much for the stock system. Personally I'd go with the always reliable hobbywing max8 ESC. I think the motor is actually good, but not with that ESC in that car.
Thanks for the info, I’ve been thinking though, and if your right and it’s more than just a servo and connectors, I’m not doing anything. Guess just wait and see if Associated gets back to me or if you or someone else on here hears from them. I was on the waiting list with Amain and Associated, wish I woulda got it from Amain 😢. Associated should do the right thing and I’d be happy if they just sent the upgrades to me. Thanks again!!!
Team Associated got back to me, I’ll try to paste the reply. If I cant they basically said they heard about Amain but aren’t aware of any problems with the car. Hello Paul,
Associated Electrics has not and does not have a recall on regarding the SR7.
We have seen similar about Amain, and we understand that they have made the statement, and we respect their decision, if you purchased the vehicle from them. you will need to contact them directly for more detailed assistance regarding their decision.
I emailed back and told him I bought it from them and again explained the safety issues.
I’ll keep you guys posted on any further correspondence with them but as of now it seems they aren’t doing anything!
@paulleniger3575 do please keep us posted. I'm curious if there is more than just the obvious potential hazard of the connectors for the ESC
I definitely will! I saw one on Ebay and I even sent a message to the seller, just to give them a heads up. They didn’t seem interested and just said that they’re sure if there’s a problem Associated will take care of it. Not sounding like it so far but hopefully if enough of us contact them they’ll do something. I’m just looking at mine for now…..
How does it stand up to the BMW crush test?
Hahahaha sadly we didn't make it that far
You got a sub from me for the Sunshine and rainbows 😂👍👍
I really appreciate it, more sunshine and rainbows coming up!
When I bought my rival mt8 it had dean's plugs on it. I just couldn't believe they used that plug on a 6s car. And now I see they are still using them is strange
I was shocked to see it as well, especially after the Rival MT8. Team Associated doesn't make a stinker very often, but when they do, they go for straight the dumpster fire world title. Team Associated got so used to winning, they don't know when winning can actually be a bad thing.
@@Rek_Rc If this recall was due to the safety of deans they would have to recall all the MT8s they’ve sold which are 6S capable and still supplied as new with Deans connectors.
Thanks guys you just saved me $700. I'll stick with arrma for speed bashing and probably buy the hoonicorn body.
That would be the better play on this one. Good idea
Got mine directly from Team Associated and I don’t see anything from them on a recall. I never saw these on Amain’s website. I haven’t had time to drive mine due to work but I already had plans to upgrade the electronics. It’s very disappointing that they even put a basic 1/8 system in a car that’s a replica of a beast. I said this on FB and they removed my comment. SMDH! Anyway, I have a Max6 ready to go in but waiting on some capacitors to put inline. Also waiting on a Reefs 8.4v servo. I know a lot of guys won’t drop more money into an already expensive vehicle but I was going to do that anyway to get it where I want it. And they’ll probably drop a kit later like they just did their 1/10 Ken Blocks but I’m a fan so I wanted it now. Great video by the way. I like honest reviews. I hate when guys and gals are afraid to speak the truth so they can keep getting free stuff.
Bro, I was picking up connectors in the hobby shop so I could upgrade mine. Store owner was pulling one off the shelf to ship back to Amain. I'm going to hold off on my build until I find out what the recall is for. The esc has been out for a minute so maybe it's the radio. It's not going back either way. They can send me whatever part needs to be swapped out... I've seen your videos too. Salute!
I really appreciate your comment. Amain Hobbies was the first I know of to recall the car, then I think someone said horizon Hobby has it listed as out of stock. I really hope they just correct the car and release it again down the road because the base platform is actually really good, but it's just so poorly sorted electronically. I know what you mean about some channels not telling cold hard truth for fear of losing sponsors, and I have had a few sponsors, never from a big name like Team Associated though. Even if they had sent me this car, the facts are undeniable that it's just not good. It would be hard to even fake like it is good. All the jump cuts in the world couldn't hide this cars issues hahahahaha.
@@Daywalker_Lee Thank you! I’m definitely interested to see what this recall is since T/A isn’t saying anything about it. It’s also weird that none of the popular promoters got this car before it was available for us regular folk. They all got some new big crawler at the same time instead. And I’m also changing the radio. It’s getting a Dumbo rx but I don’t know if I’m going to bind it with the Dumbo DDF-350 or the Radiomaster M12.
@@Rek_Rc I just looked on Team Associated website and now it also says out of stock. I got mine on the pre-order but they did have them listed as in stock a couple days ago. So yeah…they’re just not admitted the issue. Not right away anyway.
Got a reply back from Associated.
"Not sure why they would be pulling them off them off the shelve. Of the SR7 RTR that we have sold to this point we have only 3 ESC failures, and it has been noted that failures happen after the standard T-type connectors were change to other brand and type of connectors. Our team have done many tests without a failure, and they are continuing to test to see if they recreate or duplicate a problem."
I myself am not too worried as of right now. Ill have mine in a couple of days at which point Ill check it over. All my background with Associated are race buggies so that solidified my choice in buying this chassis.
If Amain had an issue (or more) during their review, that may have been enough for them to take them back to avoid and problems. Still wish they would specify for those who purchased elsewhere
It may even just not be what any of us suspect the recall is about. Or, it could be a thing where some have issues and others don't. No two RC cars are truly the exact same, and if there are issues, it may not affect all examples. It's hard to say really, and team Associated isn't saying either. Personally we had massive heat issues with the car in bone stock conditions. We opened it and ran it as it was fresh from the box. I've heard some saying the ESC popped really quickly, then I've heard others saying theirs is ok. I just wish Amain Hobbies, or team Associated would clearly state what the recall is about other than just an unspecified "safety hazard". They told us to stop using the car immediately and send it back for a refund. I almost don't want to, but I also don't want to spend anymore money on it because I don't drive onroad cars very often.
@@Rek_Rc Im holding off until Associated tells me to return it or comes out with an official statement because we dont lnpw exactly what happened. I feel like something happened while probably filming a review for it on Amain.
Hey guys, my SR7 just stop accelerating properly… I literally just drove it yesterday for the first time for like maybe 15mins and this thing is crazy outta control fast.. it easily spin donuts when I didn’t even intend to. It was real fun at first and I almost came to crashing it several times but didn’t. The stupid rear wheel came off 3-4 times even after tightening it back on which is why I didn’t run it for longer.
Now today I plug it all up and pull the throttle and nothing happens?!? The steering works fine but the rc don’t do anything with the receiver trigger. I was trying different things and I hold the throttle trim + button and the car starts moving on its own faster and faster with the click of the + button. But Trigger does nothing though in its own… what’s going on??
Please tell me this isn’t the defect that the recall is about?
I bought my SR7 directly from team associated website from the 2 month preorder wait. Haven’t got anything about recall information.
I’m fairly new to RC, Do you know if there’s a setup or something to get the throttle working properly again? Seriously brand new one run and doesn’t work? Come on
According to Amain Hobbies, the recall was a safety related issue, heat is my guess. To be honest, you'd be better off returning that car and just getting an Arrma infraction or felony 6s if you want a good onroad RTR. Unless you just really love that car, at which case I would suggest replacing all the electronics in it, but then you'd be at around 1000 dollars total and could have just gotten a brand new X-01 at that point.
@@Rek_Rc hey man, I’m thinking of replacing most the electrical components. Can you give me some recommendations for a new esc, servo ect?
That bad boy could use a gyro for sore. Big price tag for a RC that just can't get it done.
Even a gyro couldn't help much with so much slop and play in the steering. But generally you'd be on the right track with that thought.
@@Rek_Rc it's like the best looking RC with the most potential & one of the few cars I ever thought about buying outside the big 2. I have some other TA stuff & it's fast and pretty durable. Too bad this thing is a turd 💩. How do we get them to release this as a roller? That would get my blood pumping & I would buy one tomorrow
I don't believe Deans are really suitable for anything above 3s especially with something heavy like this. Using adapters will only make things worse as well but I'm sure you guys are aware of that
It's not so much the amount of battery cells as it is the amps. About 100 amps is the upper limit you'd want to push with deans. Beyond that, you'll start getting some heat
Is this a fairly new release?
Brand new release
Oh, you just explained it😳. That’s what I get for commenting during the video.
Hahaha it's ok, I do it often myself
I changed tires and all electrics car running 75 mph plus now no issues
It's a great base platform to build on for sure. I mentioned that a couple times in the video. I just didn't want to turn a 700 dollar car into a 1000 dollar car. At that point I may as well have bought an X-01. But the base platform is great. I hope theY release an updated version soon.
The infraction is the best Rc street truck period nothing can compare not even the felony
So my cheapo ZD Racing Hoonigan is a better buy the steering servo still good, the ESC has not cooked itself yet, unlike a lot on here, but I have just purchased a complete 8S setup for it, as my FTX Supanova GT is faster on 6S out of the box and actually handles better than my Felony which I have just fitted a 8S Hobbywing ESC so not expecting the motor to last long, I was thinking of getting this one as it looks better bodywise to my ZD Hoonigan Mustang, my Felony has a Bitty designs body to replace the stock body which is showing its age now.
My road vehicles last longer as I mainly drive my offraod trucks and buggies of whcich I have 8 gas then 6th and 7th scale electric offroad trucks, so another reason for my onroad lasting also no jumping them lors of gymkana and drifting though.
I was watching the handling of your Mustang does it have a gyro, I would have changed out the deans plugs straight away to IC5s so all my batteries will fit as all but my gas have them.
The chassis of the SR7 is actually good, but the rest is almost comedic. So yes, basically your ZD Version is the better car at the moment.
Thank god I never got it !!!! lol why would they put those dean’s connectors on 6S . 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
That's a definite let down by TA, hopefully it'll be revised and re-released
I'm just surprised that such an otherwise good company would let this out.
I really miss the days when Associated was an American owned private company. In the 70's, 80's and partly the 90's they built and ran and won almost every class/scale of car. Over two decades of "World" titles, and now just Horizon Hobbies "famous name" to add to the mega-conglomerate stable. This is VERY FAR from the "Associated" cars I raced in the 80's and 90's. This piece of china-crap IS NOT the A.E. of world champion fame.
I still think TA is one of the very best in racing, and their 1/10 scale RTR cars are always solid and durable. But something about their larger scale cars, I don't know why, but they just aren't as consistently good. I love TA, and I hope they fix this.
Esc is rebranded Castle Creation. Look at the wires on the esc... Castle Creations is actually printed on them in your video!
I'm sure you're right, I just didn't look that closely. Also team Associated is somewhat known for rebranding hobbywing so I just assumed. But being that it's actually a castle might explain why it's nearly on fire all the time hahahahahaha
Hopefully the cops don’t show up , since you are hooning around!
Hahahahaha , not AGAIN!
They should sell it as an optional roller aswell as recall it and change the connectors and servo !
Agreed
They are selling them as refurbished now without any ESC included. For $489.99
people are using deans at 100amps and 4000 watts no probelm... sounds crazy i know it, but i'm sure the rig is fine on 6s for what your running with a deans. Deans look like not much by they can take a fwompin'! Additionally, if the deans were truly a bottle neck, then the ESC and motor wouldn't even be getting HOT at all because they wouldn't be able to work anywhere near their capacity because the deans would be restricting flow to all of it. So that can't be the case, the deans are not likely a flow restriction especially in that you have 2 of them. The issue is the car is under powered / oversized for the motors and ESC and how hard you are pushing it --- and/or there's not enough air-flow per minute to all of it while youre driving. Bette fans, or higher motor/esc capacity could help. But better flowing wires including something that flows higher than deans is NOT going to cool your motor or esc any. Just my thoughts, happy to be wrong, but Deans is not as relevant as you are mking it in my opinion; will be curious to see after you replace JUST the deans does it fix power and heat issues.
Sadly I opted to send the car back with the recall. It's just got too many issues and I'd rather put the money toward content. When the car is re-released I'll happily try it again though. There were other build quality issues I didn't discover until after I had finished filming, and having an onroad car which I wouldn't drive very often just didn't seem appealing anymore. I like the speed of an onroad car, and I appreciate how nice they tend to look, but generally speaking, I prefer a bit more of a multi surface basher. I'm happy to review an onroad speeder, but not much interested in owning one long term.
Aww, man, Deans plugs on a 6s ?
I'm in the first year of the RC hobby and even I know that spells "melting".
I have one 3s battery with Deans T, and I stupidly use an adapter to EC-5, and that T connector gets hot AF.
How could Team Associated not do the numbers? T connector is good for 80 amps (continuous) maybe, WTF ?
6s Deans connectors.... Someone is itching for a lawsuit.
Hard to believe the most successful racing company in RC history could make such an oversight. I still love TA, but that was a blunder.
I am absolutely gutted. I was so looking forward to seeing this being a weapon of a car. But Team Associated! What the actual f@%k? It's like they just wanted to get it out the door and make some money, rather than actually make sure it works and is a competitive product.. ah well.. I was hoping for a proper speed and slide demon..
I feel exactly the same as you, and I usually adore Team Associated. Apart from the MT8, it's very rare for Team Associated to release something so bad. After so many years of some of the very best 1/10 scale race cars and consumer cars there's ever been, it's a total shock to see something like this come from them. I do think they can, and will correct the car and release it again, but I hope it takes more than just a couple months because I'm willing to pay 700 again for what I think they CAN do. But for what they DID do, I'm certainly taking advantage of the recall and refund.
Thats to bad about that one. I hope Associated will fix it.
I hope so too because it's an excellent platform, just really poorly powered, and the build quality could use some attention.
Well that sucks for it to be a 700 dollar car
I was so disappointed. I had high hopes
WOW! not good!! You gotta wonder how some of these decisions get made. I'd take that $700 refund, get a 6s Mojave and keep the change.
I like your idea, I might just do that!
KEN BLOCK 🙏 RIP 🙏
It took them long enough to release the bloody thing, you think they'd have taken the time to make it right.!!!
I've had my eye on this for months... Thanks to your honest review I believe I'll take my eyes elsewhere.. The Carisma M48 Audi Quattro looks to be more worthy.!! 👍
After watching Tomleys review I think I'm going to pre-order one.!!
Stay safe out there mate & the very best wishes from Scotland 🏴 🙏 ❤️ 📻 🕹️ 🔋 🚗 🚖 🚕 🚔 🚚 🚙 🚘 🚓 🚒 🚑 🚐 🚎 🚤 🚁 🛩️ 👍 👍 👍
What a nice comment! Thank you very much. Yes, I think looking elsewhere is a good idea, but like you, I was so excited about this car so it was a massive let down. I hope sellers take this car off their sites before anyone else spends the money. Amain Hobbies took it down so I assume others will as well.
Such a shame.!
A bad launch can ruin an RCs reputation, even if they do fix all the faults & it ends up being awesome.!!
Remember the MT8... Hmmmm... That's an Associated too.! 🤔 🤔
This totally SHOULD have been awesome... It's such an unforced error.!!
There's no good reason for an RC not to be perfect (especially at this price) on launch, after all they set the launch date & can set it back until the RC is ready for market.!
As always, please stay safe out there mate & the very best wishes from Scotland 🏴 🙏 ❤️ 📻 🕹️ 🔋 🚗 🚖 🚕 🚔 🚚 🚙 🚘 🚓 🚒 🚑 🚐 🚎 🚤 🚁 🛩️ 👍 👍 👍
Gyro turn it off
It's not gyro wobble, that would have been an easy fix. If it has a gyro at all, it doesn't become active until you're well into the throttle, which some do.
4WD is it?
Yes

Your adapter cable is too thin, it's dangerous.
I can tell you I’ve watched enough videos on these they’re only good for doing donuts, and drifting around corners. They’re not good for straight line running, and they all had servo and servo saver issues
If there was a bit more honest content other than UD RC's videos on this car, I might have avoided it. He was being honest as well, but it didn't seem he was as frustrated by the car as I was and good on him for it. But I wasn't willing to sink a bunch of time and extra money into an on road only car that I would hardly drive realistically. Maybe I'll get an infraction or felony instead because even though they are on road as well, they are just better and slightly more versatile.
I don't think associated doesn't make these cars like this and the mt8. They seem to be rebranded from China or something. The mt8 has the worst plastics on it ever, like glass. But like you said it had good bones. Maybe associated should stick with track car!
Yep is actually does have good bones, but the rest is just disappointing. Maybe a reworking and a new release down the road would be better. But maybe TA should stick to racing as you say, and 1/10 scale stuff, they're fantastic at those two things. The MT10 and SC10, RB10, all amazing and all time greats, and of course on the track Team Associated is king.
Buy a FTX Superforza instead, Much cheaper & better build quality, works straight out the box with no issues !
Not a bad idea
Seems like your paying a heavy premium for the body bc if it has a poor servo and uses deans connectors then I see most people buying this and changing the electronics.
It's getting hard to buy now with the recall, many sites have taken it down and shops are pulling it off the shelves.
Dean connectors are a joke. With this much power just like the infraction which is why Arrma puts AS3X Gyro in it. It is impossible to drive these cars without a gyro. Even the 200mph + speed runners run the best Futaba or Yokomo Gyro. The fact they didn't include a steering gyro is ridiculous They had all the time in the world to research Arrmas Infraction which comes with a gyro for that reason. Should have come with at least XT90s or QS8 connectors and a Steering Gyro during release. Also, the wire gauge for the ESC wires and motor wires is not thick enough of a gauge IMO. Especially geared for high speed with good batteries. Someone in R&D messed up bad. Plus them working on the new B7 at the same time and trying to rush things didn't help. They announced it too early and got lots of crap for the teasers constantly coming out. Also, no pre-release chassis photo really bugged people. I'm sure if customers had seen the Dean's connectors before pre-order they would have not ordered. The servo issue is always an issue with RTRs but this one is really bad. I never keep the stock servo but some people want to leave their car stock as a daily basher which is unacceptable. They should have partnered with an aftermarket servo company like REEF RC. TA dropped the ball with this and prioritized everything on the B7 IMO. I'm a TA fan but disappointed in how they handled this. Losi Promoto is still the best release in decades. TA needs to step up their game or they will turn into what happened to HPI.
Did you see the recall on that car yet? It’s got a safety recall for real
Wow lot of money for the trouble
Roller option with no body
That would have been better
Wow!!! What a let down.. sorry my guy I hope you get your money back .. but send me the link to those back up street tires they look sweet . Please and thank you 🙏
I'll get you a link for the tires here shortly
Seems like a lot of trash talk for a few minor issues 😂 changing the conectors tuning the diffs possibly a type swap+ gyro if you're looking for a speed run car really doesn't seem to bad especially as most people are going to be doing that anyway
You've missed the point completely. Call it trash talk if you want, but I've only ever given two other bad reviews like this one. It's a 700 dollar piece of junk and amain Hobbies agreed enough to do a recall. I'll sell you one for 700 dollars if you'd like to take a crack at it though. But you'd be better off just buying an Arrma like everyone else
the problems and issues with the car ARE NOT THE TWO DEANS CONNECTORS , TEAM ASSOCIATED'S choice of chosen electronics and motor along with the chosen gearing used in the car are the problem along with the crap slow servo that's the real problem . DEANS PLUGS are fine upto 4S power on a single deans connector with a 100 amp hobbywing ESC with the correct brushless motor size along with the appropriate gearing , like that of HoBao with the HoBao hyper GT rally car with it's big can 2000 kv brushless motor and 100 amp ESC and runs 4S with a single deans connector . get your true facts correct and true before giving out the false facts 😡 .
Well I'll say this, the batteries were so hot I was afraid to transport them, and the deans connecters warped. There's a fact. Also, I didn't state that the recall was specifically over the dean connectors I said we "think we know why" then talked them. It's called deliberate word choice . We stated that as a theory, and that's a fact. You do things like that when you're not totally sure about something but you have your own ideas about something. That way when someone comes along with WAY too much passion, about a relatively small thing, you have an out. That's a fact as well. We ran 6s BTW on 100c, then 80c, another fact.
@@Rek_Rcwell their is nothing wrong with deans with an RC car that is set up appropriately . HOBAO HYPER GT , HPI WR8 FLUX 3 , LC RACING etc and so on all use deans , and there is absolutely nothing with their performance , because their electronics package are appropriate for the correct application . If weather conditions are hot , that affects heat issues with the wrong chosen electronics and ESC package with the batteries , and if you using in hot weather then appropriate heatsinks and fans are appropriate , but there is nothing you can do about batteries unless you limit current draw by the correct chosen motor and ESC electronics along with the correct gearing choice that will limit current draw on the batteries . It's not rocket science , it's just the correct facts .
@@ianjohnhorwood2605 i understand what you're saying. I'm just stating what we experienced from a consumer POV. That particular car got so hot, the batteries posed a safety threat, the electronics were too hot to touch, and even holding the car was extremely hot through the chassis. That's a fact. The fact is the car has the equipment it has, and it got unreasonably hot. It isn't a matter of who knows more than who, that isn't the issue. The issue is, the car is problematic enough that there is a recall out on it from Amain and now a few others I'm told. Those are all factually correct things to say.
@@Rek_Rc, I know TEAM ASSOCIATED'S SR7 is a total a piece of consumer crap in it's current form , because there has already been a review on it , and it's issues are totally inexcusable and unacceptable for a $600+ RTR RC CAR straight out of the box . I know these issues do not exist with any of my HoBao on road cars and buggies , nor my HPI WR8 FLUX WRC RALLY cars , nor my LC RACING cars , nor even my £474 UK pounds FTX SUPERFORZA GT cars at well over £125+ cheaper price than TEAM ASSOCIATED'S very poor RTR SR7 HOONICORN set up package . Until TEAM ASSOCIATED has sorted every bad aspect of the SR7 , i won't purchase , and that includes the poor lubed diffs and the bad steering servo .
@@ianjohnhorwood2605 well, we can agree on that for sure. I just don't understand why they couldn't just make a larger version of their 1/10 scale Hoonigan mustang, which was really good, it was brushed, but a swap to brushless is easy enough. I just don't get why they didn't take a page from Arrma book and just use as close to matching electronics and gearing as they could without it infringing. To me it doesn't seem that difficult, but then again I don't make RC cars and I haven't won 32 IFMAR world championships. So, maybe it is difficult, but Arrma seems to pull it off well with the felony and infraction RTR.
Well those aren't genuine deans connectors. Genuine deans brand are white and are more than capable of some major power
That's what I'm hearing. I'll have to look into that more. But the ones on the car were awful. They warped from heat.
@@Rek_Rc yeah I'm not sure who they get their supply from but I have a combo from associated from probably 2013 or so and has same plugs and they warped on 2s
Associated is the big name in the RC industry I don't understand why they still run such junk electronics it blows my mind 700.00 vehicles with $50 electronics what a joke 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 they should not be settling RTR cars they should sell builders kits with no electronics or roller chassis with no electronics instead of recalls I think what they should be doing is just giving people a 200 to $300 refund to purchase good electronics maybe it's just me but I've never seen them use good servos an ESC some other motors seemed all right but that's about as far as it goes
Hi REK,I just shared an email with you, hope you get it.
Awesome, I'll check it out when I get done working. Thank you for alerting me.
@@Rek_Rc Thanks.
I want one.
I wanted one too, maybe one day I'll actually get one again.
@@Rek_Rc Someone has to make one that doesn't fall apart. I mean Kids are way rougher on them then us LOL
Sell it as a roller for $300
That would have been excellent
Junk!! unless you're interested in overpriced buggy racing or the MT10, stay from the REST Team Associated products, They are not all terrible, however, they are overpriced for sure.
I'd agree but I'd put the SC10 into the good category with the MT10. Team Associated is great for racing, and the MT/ SC10 models are great, but it seems all their 1/8 scale and up cars are just never good.
My hobao gtb roller was a better buy
Probably so
Ken Block is rolling in his grave over this sad car :(
👎
Thanks for watching, there's like 480 more if you'd like to check them out too!
Dude you really explained that very well I appreciate that 🤝
I appreciate you watching and I hope the information was helpful in some way. Except I did misspeak about the ESC apparently it's a castle ESC and I missed that
It’s because you got rid of the bullets 6.5 it probably been fine I’m sticking with hobby wing 🪽
I didn't get rid of anything, that is stock out of the box like that. I didn't build it. It's been recalled though, to be honest I'd rather take the refund and just invest it back into content.
