      Julian Walker Those with OCD are born with it. You can't just develop it. Cat seems to have a cause behind or something that motivates her to do so. Like she said, it has developed from her anxiety and she most likely hasn't done this regularly before last year.

      any number of stresses can trigger underlying conditions that one is predisposed to.... there is zero judgment on it. it is not uncommon for people to have their fist symptoms of several different brain-based conditions in their 20's. identifying it early enough and getting appropriate treatment is always the best case scenario.

    Taking 3 baths everyday is not only bad for the environment, but also for your body. It's going to make your skin and hair very dry, taking all the essential, natural oils out of it. It's not your fault tho everyone has something like that so just try you best to stop. It's not going to be easy at all, but I believe in u.

    • @catearmstrong1619

    When I was a teen I had a counting/numbers OCD problem. It got into patterns and sequences of the number 4. Not sure why. But actually it went away when I got older. Not sure why it started or stopped. But I developed other OCD behaviors later. I got very compulsive about where things were placed and if someone moved something it had to be put back where it "belonged". But I have since gotten over that as well. I think that might have been a response to feeling like I had no control at that point in my life. I guess what I am getting at is not to stress too much about it, that sometimes these things just resolve themselves as you grow. Love you Cat.

    I have this weird thing with my room, It constantly needs to be spotless and everything has to be in the same place in order for me to sleep or leave. Before I leave for school I make my bed and make sure everything is perfect and if i don't i can't focus at school because i know that my room isn't perfect at home. even if I'm exhausted after work ill make sure its spotless, cleaning all the woods and trimming in my room. Even after coming home at 3am after being out with my friends they will all go to sleep and ill still clean my room spotlessly before even thinking about getting sleep. Its nothing compared to your OCD tendencies obviously but its just this weird thing i do

    You're so brave Cat! I've never experienced this but can relate to the compulsion of feeling out of control and like I need to gain control. For me in the past it's manifested with food. For me it's definitely been a journey of breakthrough and self love and realizing, accepting and being changed at my core by the love of God. (Again just my experience :)) You're not alone! • @LockhartLore
    @LockhartLore 7 лет назад +1

    I have been suffering with OCD, too, and I'm so sorry that you're dealing with it! My compulsions involve food and prayer. I got severe food poisoning a few summers ago, so bad that I was bedridden for soooo long and developed an stomach ulcer on top of it. Since then, I can't eat like a normal person. When eating finger foods, I'll nibble around the part that my fingers touch and throw away the rest. When I have food in my mouth, my brain will say "it's contaminated" and I'll HAVE to spit it out. I have lost around 25ish pounds to this compulsion. My coping mechanism is prayer. Yes, lots of people pray, but I have to repeat each sentence three times and visualize the meaning in my mind. Otherwise, I'm just reciting what I've said a million times and it's not "heartfelt" enough to protect me.

  • @welphereiam
    @welphereiam 7 лет назад +2

    OCD is hell on earth. My OCD tendencies have been just as bad as they are now since I was 7 years old. I have to count things and recite things over and over until I prove to my brain that something is the way it should be (like a light switch being off or a door being locked). I wake up in the middle of the night to the sound of MYSELF RECITING WORDS AND NUMBERS. I DO IT IN MY SLEEP. I can never get away from it. Sometimes I literally have to go stare at my front door to make sure it is locked. It could take up to 2 hours to prove to my brain that the door is locked. That's the worst part about my OCD. I'm unable to just file a thought away by telling myself it's just an obsessive thought trying to fuck with me. If I don't carry out my rituals I literally can't think straight.

  • @justbelievinginmagic

    This sounds like OCD especially since you call it a compulsion; its out of your control. A close family member of mine has OCD and they used to take 3 showers a day to feel more clean/less anxious. I'd suggest maybe looking into OCD or talking to someone professional so they can help you so it doesnt escalate to more things in your life becoming controlled by anxiety or OCD.

  • @steffikrose
    @steffikrose 7 лет назад +1

    I feel like it's good that you know why you are taking a bath, and it's not "normal" but it's okay and you know and are working on it. You could try wrapping yourself in some warm, fuzzy blankets, maybe that helps too. Just make sure your skin is rehydrated because a lot of water can dry out your skin (sounds weird, I know, but it can happen). I always have to check what I'm writing multiple times before I send it, check if the door is locked, if the stove is turned off, if the tap is turned off, if the windows are closed, until my mind is at ease. That might be more socially acceptable but it's something I'm working on. All the best to you! :)

  • @luxlisbon7979
    @luxlisbon7979 7 лет назад +1

    I suffered from anxiety like this when I was around ten. I would have to turn the light switch off three times and move the faucet three times to the left and right and if my leg brushed against a plant or something I'd have to do it another two times to make it three and I'd make other people eat some of the food I ordered at a restaurant because I needed the reassurance that it wasn't poisoned. I would also have to wash my legs/hands/feet with water if I so much as touched my bed frame or my sheets in the wrong way. It was infuriating and I still suffer with traces of it today. I never spoke up about it to anyone when I was younger because I was too scared and I thought there was something wrong with me. And I am the least superstitious person ever, but I thought something bad would happen if I told anyone. I just want peoples opinions, should I have had this checked out? Cause it did really dominate my life and stopped me from doing things my friends could do (like eating food without thinking I was going to die lol)

  • @rhynneross7741
    @rhynneross7741 7 лет назад +1

    I use to be the same, but it would be like 4 showers a day. I couldn't have a bath because it felt too dirty... So I only showered and would wash with three different soaps and body washes... I only shower twice a day now but wash my hands after I touch pretty much anything I feel is dirty.. I totally understand the guilt of the wasted water....

    I have issues with biting my lips, the inside of my mouth, and the skin around my nails. They've been poor coping actions for years now. And I'm the same way: If I'm taking my Zoloft every day, it's not as bad (unless I'm having a really bad time). Anxiety and OCD can be really hard to fight, because of the intrusive thoughts that never seem to go away no matter how hard you try. My friend has it and explained to me what it was like an I've seen videos as read articles about it. Although I've never been told how I can help, but one thing that helps my friend it whenever you have the thought, try to label it and call it a "false thought" so you know that it irrational and it's easier to distinguish that thought from others and try to get rid of them.

    I was on Zoloft for a little bit! I found it's affect wore of quickly (possibly a shorter half life??) but yes I totally habe had weird tendencies over the years! From saying a specific phrase when I passed by specific house, to counting all the speed bumps on road trips, to having to order my fruit snacks in a specific variation, I've definitely had my fair share of OCD quirks. But I've had ones, such as trichotillomania (compulsive hair pulling or skin picking) that has been a part of my life for 10years now. I can totally relate to the calming feeling your quirk may bring. I'm rooting for you in your endeavors to get back to normal! All the love

    I used to do this when my anxiety was really bad, but doesn't your skin get dry? My skin used to get sooo dry and itchy and eventually I had to train myself to stop

    Last year I struggled a lot with anxiety and developed an OCD-linked disorder where I compulsively pick at my skin. I'd often go to the washroom then come back to the dinner table, my nose red and swollen from standing at the mirror and diminishing any blemish I could find. My family would ask what happened, and I'd say I was blowing my nose, or that I didn't think there was any difference. I'd even sometimes be caught picking my arms and feel so ashamed. It's disgusting and embarrassing and hasn't improved since it started, but it's really nice to know that other people-especially someone I look up to such as yourself-struggle with compulsions. I love when you make videos about stuff like this cause it lets me know I'm not the only person out there who's struggling.

    I feel like my OCD tendencies kick in when my anxiety isn't as present, like after exams for my first semester( a peak time for anxiety) I start off my new semester with alot of OCD tendencies that I play off as a "perfectionist, type A, starting off the new semester really organized" type of way. But really, crumpling up a full sheet of homework after using the wrong highlighter colour isn't organized, it's pretty neurotic. Anyways, I'm glad you're doing better Cat and thanks for sharing, anything that exposes mental illness is really helpful. All the love xx

    Thank you for sharing & opening up, this is helping alot of people feel less alone, and that is SUPER important when it comes to things like this, so THANK YOU for that. OCD and control and things like that, are so very common, I have some of that too.
    Btw I hope you get better at taking your medication every day at about the same time because that is very important for you in order for it to have the best effect for you, and when you said you miss it for a few days or 2 days I was like nooo! Take care! =)

    I deal with this exact same thing, oddly enough. For a few months I was taking occasional baths to calm myself down...Then I got to a point where I was having to take 2-3 baths every day in order to feel calm. Like right when I woke up and right before bed. It was definitely an anxious thing and I'm surprised to hear someone else deals with the exact same quirk haha. It's comforting to hear!!

    you're so brave for talking about this well done!!! Just a quick point though, maybe this video should have come with a trigger warning as people with OCD can pick up other compulsions from other people! Super good job for opening up, so important to spread awareness ❤

    I have this kind of thing with my anxiety. For me it's when I feel out of control with what's happening around me, and having the schedule (like ur 3 baths) helps me feel more in control.
    I have my own "strange addiction". My bed always has to be made perfectly. No creases or wrinkles in the sheets or anything 😅

    This isn't a weird quirk or dumb or silly, it's obsessive/compulsive behavior. These types of behaviors can manifest as a result of frequent anxiety. I'm glad you found a medication that helps because once these types of issues show up they can develop into full blown OCD over time if nothing is done. It's something that should be taken seriously.

    You're not stupid!! Also our individual water usage as a whole population makes up such a small amount of water usage, it's commercial water use that's wasteful and dangerous so don't beat yourself up too hard. I'm compulsive about cleaning, like I can't do anything at home until the house is organized and spotless. Cleaning has always calmed me down because I'm being active and distracted from my thoughts. I also love picking at my fact, I've been trying to kick the habit of touching my face for yeeeeeeeeeeears. I usually give up.

    Cut yourself some slack sweet girl! I've dealt with major anxiety for years. There are far far FAR worse things you could be "addicted to" in order to calm yourself down. ❤️

    I've not had OCD (I have friends who do), but there have been things that I thought/think at certain low points that I couldn't get through the day without. Not substances in my case either, other things that probably wouldn't make much sense to other people or would sound trivial. It's so hard to explain to other people what it's like or why you feel like that, especially because sometimes it sounds like trivial things or you don't even know yourself. But I'd really encourage anyone struggling to speak to someone they can trust, and to get professional help of whatever kind is right for you/what you're struggling with. I think sometimes our minds and bodies respond in "interesting" ways to pressure. And you never really know what is around the corner, and I think these things can happen to anyone. For me counselling, talking to friends (although in this case it wasn't my super closest friends, but people I could trust that I didn't know so well yet) and getting people to pray with me all really helped.

    I missed most of 6th grade due to my anxiety. I felt ill and worn down and went to so many doctors. I didn't know what was wrong until I started going to a councilor. She said that I have slight OCD and social anxiety. I am in the 7th grade now, I am being homeschooled because she suggested medicine if I were to go back to public school. My grades have gone up and I'm very pleased with that, but I miss my friends.

    I have ocd and have to check the locks on the doors and windows four times a night and whenever I pass the doors during the day. I also check the stove to make sure its off every few hours and count my steps (one, two, three, four...one, two, three, four...) and there are times when I'll turn the locks on the doors multiple times to be SURE that they're locked. can't have open doors inside the house. That's some of my weird things. You're not alone and I'm proud of you for admitting it. i was on zoloft for a while and it helped me. Hope it helps you too! :)

    This isn't weird at all. OCD is so freaking common. I used to count my fingers from my thumb to my pinky, then i'd start with my index finger and finish on my thumb being like "one, two, three, four, five" in my head. I'd keep going around until I started and finished on each finger and my hand was done, then i'd do the other hand. No idea why. I did it for years before I even noticed and forced myself to stop. I think it was just a distraction that I used to cope with uncomfortable feelings

    My family always poke fun at me because I'm very 'particular' about things but I know I have OCD tendencies and I feel as though it's not taken seriously like they think it's just part of my personality to be 'tidy' and 'obsessive' and whatever but it's starting to get annoying and I don't feel like I'm being listened to when I mention it ergh but I totally understand how you feel!! x

    I count things in 4's? It's my favourite number! I'll cut food into 4 or multiples of 4, the tv volume has to be a multiple of 4, I even brush my teeth for 4 minutes haha! Hearing you speak openly made me want to say it out loud (or write it.. you know what I mean) 😂

    I was going to be like yes! Let's talk about these weird comfort things / addictions. But then I realised I was really hesitating putting mine into words here. :D which is nuts. Because you just bravely shared yours in a video. Grav3yardgirl talked about her strange addiction in her videos. But I remember there's one dedicated to that. I think you could do with youtuber to youtuber support. Mine is that I feel really scared to go to sleep or hang around in my apartment if there's not basically an obstacle course on the floor. Like when I get home or when I'm going to bed I need to mess it up.

    You don't have to feel stupid. It's just something that you do and deal with. It's not disgusting, creepy, harming to anyone else or anything like that. It's just inconvenient and probably not very good for your head. So don't worry about what others will think, you're not the only one with 'issues' like this. There's nothing wrong with talking about things like this, imo. ^^

    I have bad anxiety and find I have a few OCD like tendencies as well. I'm on anxiety meds but find I still have little habits that I can't break. Like whenever I set an alarm, I have to set 4 alarms that are 5 minutes apart. The radio volume has to be in increments of 5. And etc. So don't feel bad. We all have our quirks

    It's nice to see you talking so openly about your mental health. I've struggled with anxiety, depression, an eating disorder, and ADD basically my whole life and it can be so difficult to talk frankly about this kind of stuff. The stigma attached to mental illness can be really overpowering but the way you are able to talk about it honestly in saying that it's something you deal with and that you're working on it while maintaining your strong positivity is kind of inspiring. I feel like, so often, the only discussions you can find on mental illness is either "it's not a real illness" or "its the realest most debilitating illness"; the former is wrong and the latter is too extreme for most cases. You've managed to expose the middle ground that is most commonly experienced, which is suffering with it, living with it, and working to overcome it. It's hard, and yes it can be debilitating, but it's real. So, thank you for being so open about it.

    Sometimes I take a shower once in the morning and then again in the evening. You might get a UTI if you don't rinse well after your baths, so just be careful. If you can cut it down to just 2 a day, that's fine. Don't sweat it! :)

    I don't think that I have OCD but I do weird things that I kinda feel bad about. like before I sleep I need to know where my wallet is and where like important things are for example, a special t-shirt, jewelry etc. also when I'm eating tiny foods like goldfish crackers or anything else that is tiny, I have to have two at a time or like an even number. Maybe its just anxiety of where important things are and how I don't want to lose them but idk.
