Keelie Brewer yes, this crossed my mind. This story sounds like Cat was the one paranoid in this situation. The lady never caused physical harm or threaten her.
Isabel Valera stalking is not physical abuse, it is psychological. it is VERRRRYY much illegal and harmful in this situation. If someone is stalking you like this and you AREN'T paranoid, then I don't think you understand the situation and are brushing off something potentially life-threatening.

you're pretty lucky that it died down and she didn't actually take it to the next level. because stalkers can even kill, not joking. this kind of persistent stalking requires attention from the police. i wish people who get stalked at this degree don't just sit around because they might not be so lucky.
also, i would like to point out that i'm quite relieved that you're okay, and that it's okay to THINK someone may have had some mental disease. you didn't confirm it, so i think it's fine that you said it. putting it in the title was a wrong idea but thanks for correcting it.

I searched the tweets posted by Zen Cupcakes and one was tweeting the secret service and the president asking for help to defend herself against the hacker Catrific. That is insane! I would have been terrified, especially if this woman followed me around in person and involved my friends. I'm so sorry you had to deal with this!

The police are rarely going to do anything. There are some laws that protect the police from having to deal with dangerous sounding inquiries believe it or not.

Cat, this sounds like this could be a very distressing thing to deal with, especially for so long. You probably were right to not acknowledge her face on.
But to say someone is "schizophrenic" when you do not actually know if they have schizophrenia just isn't right. I hate to be judgemental but it's just one of those things I think most people need to learn. A mental illness is not a characteristic or a way to describe a person, it is something they have and deal with. Just like a person with cancer isn't a cancerous person, a person with schizophrenia isn't a schizophrenic person.
That being said it does definitely seem like her thoughts are delusions (false fixed beliefs), and it probably was very real for her. Just as it was real for you, especially when she was taking pictures of your friends.

I dot think cat was shining a bad light onto mental illnesses. Schizophrenia is a disease, and maybe she did have it. Who know? Cat isn't insulting the disease or even this lady.
I don't think you were wrong about saying it was almost like she had paranoid schizophrenia. From what you said it did sound that way. I hope she found the help that she needed to bring her back to reality. I feel that people are so sensitive these days.. if I say my son has the flu people don't say "your not a doctor you shouldn't diagnose him" no... but the symptoms all point to the flu? Like whaaaaa? Same thing just a touchy subject.
thank you!! I know there's a very real stigma around mental illnesses, and they're not something to joke about, but people are sooo overly sensitive. Like she didn't even say anything bad about schizophrenia, just put 2 and 2 together saying that it would be a plausible explanation for her situation.

Although I totally understand and agree that professionals are really the only ones who can legitimately diagnose somebody with a mental illness, I'm taking an abnormal psychology class at the moment (finals next week ayyee) and the paranoid thoughts and erotomania (when someone thinks a person of high status is in love or obsessed with them) are major characteristics of schizophrenia spectrum disorders. Thanks for sharing your story, Cat! This is why I am OBSESSED with psychology. So interesting.

Hey Cat, this was an interesting video but I'm confused as to why you had to put "schizophrenic" in the title, when you mentioned nowhere that your stalker was diagnosed with schizophrenia. I don't mean to sound disrespectful, but I feel like it's not very nice to associate your stalker with schizophrenia. Although she had a delusion that you were hacking her, she might have had another mental illness that could've caused that. I feel like I had to say something, because I bet if I had schizophrenia, I would be hurt by the fact that you assumed that your stalker had it because of her behavior.

clevergerard I agree, not everyone who has schizophrenia is paranoid and out of control. You could talk to someone who's schizophrenic and have no idea they have a mental illness.

jeez guys cat is just saying the lady "might" have been schizophrenic or had other mental issues. she's just clarifying that the lady possibly wasn't trying to intentionally harass her. i have a friend who's schizophrenic and he's really hard to deal with because he has such disordered thinking. he thinks the world is out to get him or something. based on what cat had to go through it's not unlikely that the lady had some sort of mental disorder.

I would have been terrified in your situation. I think you did the right thing in not acknowledging her behavior. You have great friends who give really good advice.
If she was being for real, it could be any sort of psychosis with paranoia. Supposedly my mom had delusional disorder (she's gotten a few different diagnosis), and she had behavior sort of like this. It is dangerous to say what you did, but I'm sure you realize by now. That said, you really should have called the cops on her early on. What she was doing was wrong.

We have a serious stigma in the world about those with mental illness and when you pair up schizophrenia and stalker in the same sentence, it strengthens that stigma in the world that those with schizophrenia are evil, dangerous people, when in reality they are not.
Please just think about your actions, I am sorry about your story but you are adding to the stigmas

I have experienced a stalker situation too and it's really distressing... Your situation was so scary, I probably would have freaked out and gone straight to the police. I had a stalker who followed me around and send me lots and lots of messages but never talked to me. Those messages weren't threatening so I just hoped some day this stalker will stop. Well... My wish didn't come true until I told I'm gonna get police involved if this madness continues. (That's my story no one asked to hear:D)

What a Horrible experience :(, you were really brave to ignore her but if it gets to the stage where people are threatening you and your family and friends like this I would contact the police.
Your right when you said you open yourself up to nasty and intrusive people when you are on the internet, their only goal is to frighten and upset lovely/friendly people like yourself as it makes themselves feel better in their own twisted way so you have to be careful and try not to get upset except in extreme cases like this where you should go to the cops for help.

Because you never know what someone like this is capable of. the woman sounds delusional and is only targeting you for no rational reason just because or maybe she just jealous of your success in life.
my dad had paranoid schizophrenia and he acted exactly like that but he thought the neighbors, me, and my mom were stalking him and trying to tell the fbi about him or something like that

My neighbor is stalking me. He is moving my outdoor furniture around and rings doorbell and leaving stuffed toys and running away, I don`t give him any attention, like cat, so now he isn`t that active. Just ignore these people or call the police if they are threatening you. Stay safe guys and have nice day.

Hey Cat! This is a really scary story and I'm sorry it happened to you, but the title is misleading and promotes a lot of negative stereotypes about mental illness. You have no idea if this woman actually had schizophrenia, or any mental illness for that matter. People already think that schizophrenics are inherently dangerous and it isn't right to label a scary person with a mental illness just because one of the symptoms fits into the story.

Yes!!! And the people who are saying it isn't a big deal, probably wouldn't feel the same if she titled it "My autistic stalker" or "my Down syndrome stalker" it's all the same. They're all disabilities that people can't help. But you aren't your disabilities, you HAVE disabilities. I respect her for owning up to it and apologizing though. She isn't trying to diagnose her for God's sake. Putting schizophrenia in the title for a psychological stand point is completely understandable because she's SPECULATING. The woman is older, which tend to be a trend for the onset of sz in females (25-30, but in rare cases can occur 40+). She shows evidence to prove points and link concepts together that don'y actually exist, but do in her head - a common symptom in sz patients. It may have inadvertently made a negative stereotype, but the fact is that those with an EXTREME type of sz may well have delusions that impact upon others. Yes, another few common diagnoses of stalkers are bipolar, depression etc, but if it had gone on this long I'd bet Cat looked into it. It is a negative stereotype of people with sz -obviously not all people with sz do this but we're talking about a very specific type - however, we can't pretend that those with this type don't sometimes engage in these behaviours. It may offend people, but it's far more damaging to ignore the trends and disregard it.
