Blimey my friend. Your flight was so bad that it actually features in today's Independent newspaper. "Screaming passengers ‘prayed’ during terrifying Storm Eunice landing before being flown 200 miles away" !! Glad you're safe :)
I was on that flight it was more than bumpy it was very scary indeed ..I had a window seat and could see the trouble outside and feel the tension Inside the cabin
James I remember when the Maltese first got a new influx of planes and coming into Manchester even without wind was fun. Still they eventually passed and took the L plates off 🤣🤣
Watching some of those wing flexes, especially the Jet2 at 09:00, well captured go-arounds. Storm Eunice was certainly powerful. You caught a lot of action at Manchester. Enjoyed watching your up close video.

Basically what you're watching is a situation where the aircraft Forward Motion is canceled out by the headwinds they are trying to move through so basically the aircraft is not flying ., its levitating until there's enough of a drop-in the wind speed in order for the pilots to basically Force the aircraft onto the ground. And I'm willing to bet you many of those passengers are reconsidering their decision to fly that day after going through an experience like that.. if I had gotten up early that morning and heard the weather report with winds at that speed I would have called the airline and canceled my flight... In my opinion it just wasn't worth the risk
Hey, I was watching that new Netflix documentary on the Boeing 737 Max scandal tonight and I noticed one of the max shots had your watermark on it! Amazing achievement!
I live directly under the flight path and track them couldn't go out as it's 600 ft above sea level horizontal rain isn't fun, and I definitely wouldn't like to be a pilots in this big kudos to them 👍 good video as well 👌
The wind out of limits refers to the first go around you see on the video from the easyJet A320. They went around as the crosswind component exceeded 38 knots which they reported to be out of company limits
Makes me wonder: how bad does a storm have to be before flights are canceled?! Are we talking full-on hurricane? Kudos to the pilots, you've certainly earned your beers!
@@TomasMAcevedo lives were definitely put at risk. I don't think anyone could have claimed surprise by a disaster unfolding. Thankfully, that didn't happen.
@@birdy-bee Several flights were cancelled. But lives were NEVER put at risk on those which did operate. Aircrews are extensively trained to cope with storm conditions, and the aircraft flying have the technology to cope. The 'go-arounds' you see are NOT in any way dangerous ... they are the procedure followed for safety reasons when continuing to land would be out of limits or adjudged unwise by the crew.
It all depends. You could have winds at 60 knots, but if it's straight down the runway you may not have any diversions. It's all about the wind correction angle (WCA) and what each plane is rated for (including the flight crew's own personal limitations).
The reality of operating an aircraft in windy conditions. In this instance it was more of a gusting headwind rather than a quartering gusty tailwind that was the issue. While people say kudos to the pilots one thing is for sure. When they look for a pay rise, or better rostering or rest requirements, most will say they are over paid. The low cost sector is completely to blame as they try to compare the role of a pilot with that of a bus driver. Have a look at the video and make up your own mind. There are many other day to day challenges that displays the professional decision making and piloting skills of these aviators. Seems to me these runway orientations or directions were poorly planned. Obviosly there are prevailing winds and it seems to me it's always severe crosswinds. They could have studied the pattern of the wind and plan the runways accordingly.
They do study the pattern of the wind and plan the runways accordingly. The prevailing wind varies from W to SW in Manchester. The runway is facing 230 degrees (SW). Even a 20-30 degree difference and the planes are having to crab in, and obviously the stronger the wind the more apparent that becomes. Seems to me you should learn more before sprouting your opinions on the internet of which you know nothing about
Many of the runways (orientation) and airports in the UK, stem from WW2. In the decades that followed, many villages/towns/cities sprang up around said airport. So to realign a runway would mean it could possibly run through your backyard and Nan's kitchen. There isn't enough royal commissions to make that happen, not to mention how put out the Council will feel!! 😂 So no, the airports will stay as they are.
