- The Smith & Wesson Model 500 is a five-shot, double/single action large-caliber revolver produced by Smith & Wesson, firing the .500 S&W Magnum cartridge, a .50 caliber bullet.
The S&W 500 is built on Smith and Wesson's largest frame, the X-Frame, which was developed because none of S&W's existing double-action frame designs could handle the muzzle energy and pressures generated by the .500 S&W cartridge. It is one of the most powerful production revolvers in the world today and is marketed as "the world's most powerful handgun" by the manufacturer.
There are a few larger caliber revolvers, like the Pfeifer Zeliska .600 Nitro Express revolver, however this is a custom made firearm from Austria and is not widely available. The Model 500 can fire a bullet weighing 350 gr (22.7 g; 0.8 oz) at 1,975 feet per second (602 m/s) generating a muzzle energy of over 3,030 foot-pounds force (4.1 kJ) and a momentum of 13.7 Newton second. Commercial loadings are available in bullet weights ranging from 275 gr to 700 gr. The Smith & Wesson .500 Special is a shorter cartridge that is fully compatible with this pistol.

Don't try to recreate what you see in this video, as this is gameplay. This video was created using the game World of Guns:

this is the best S&W 500 disassembly, reassembly video on youtube. thank you so much for posting
All gun manufacturers should include this with the manual.
Glad I found this video, took my 460 apart for a bit of cleaning and didn’t know which way that little collar went back on the cylinder shaft.. Didn’t want to guess and then blow myself up.. lol. Cheers.. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
How did you get the collar out ?
@@moreme40 It just slides off once you unscrew the shaft..
Excellent video. Can’t spot even the smallest error.
The video is incorrect, the extractor rod and the knurled end are threaded left handed.
So if you're disassembling the cylinder they are righty loosey, lefty tighty.
They do not show you the small spring and plunger thats behind the screw that retains the cylinder slide out.
This is so fucking cool! I'll have to hit the pause button about 500 times when I get ready to clean mine, but still, very detailed.
Are you able to create s and w m629 deluxe revolver video too i need the 3d plan for that modle
After unscrewing the tip of the ejector rod, how do you get that bushing out of the cylinder to remove the ejector rod ?
*My God!...The exploded layout, looks like a Solar System!*
Is it even possible to design a more complicated Revolver?
It's put together like a Black Forest Cuckoo Clock!
I'm saving to buy a *XVR 460 Magnum*
Smithing on it looks very daunting.
*Anyone out there working on their X-Frames? (tips)*
X frame here! I liked the 460 but I chose the 500. Either way you will be happy! Congrats it's a lot of coin but worth every cent. have fun and enjoy it
@@ebblue81 460 is more versatile: )
@@Rafal_Wu Yes! I love mine, 45LC, 454, or 460!
It is basically the same as a j frame, just much bigger parts.
3:27 That last screw that holds the cylinder in place, does anyone know the name of it? Mine is missing it.
Call midway it's a yoke screw
You have 3d file of this gun, i want to print it on my printer.
Thank you sooo much
Looks a little different (beefier in some aspects) than the model 686.
From this animation the barrel looks like a two piece system where a flange is unscrewed and you can remove the shroud with the barrel still in the frame. S&W either changed the design, or this animation is not entirely accurate.
It is very far from being accurate.
Chad Carroll. No, it is not. This fantasy animation depicts the X-Frame with a Dan Wesson system barrel and barrel shroud, where the shroud is fixed by a screw. In reality, X-Frames use a flanged barrel. You should look closer at your revolver, if you have one at all.
Exactly. The latest models are just like this. The older ones don't come apart the same with the barrel assembly. I have an 6 1/2 that is not like this and an 8 3/8. My 4" is exactly like this. The newer 8 3/8 I see at Gun Broker all are like my 4". I haven't seen any 6 1/2" that are the same YET.
The Shooting Times review from when it came out describes the barrel/shroud system about halfway through the article. It sounds similar to the Dan Wesson system except that is not removable and adjustable like the Dan Wessons.
