Imagine just 65 years ago she was *obliged* to stand up if a white person came on the bus and now she is in the White House with the first BLACK president
Sometimes I like to come back to this just to get that serotonin boost. I'm extremely glad she was able visit and live to see the progress made with racism. We still have more to fight but this woman who has seen so much got a massive win for sure for her struggles
Considering that when she was born, slavery only outlawed for not even 50 years yet. Amazing that she lives long enough to see the first African American POTUS.
Just imagine, that lady must have been born around 1910 so she must have experienced so much racism, oppression and injustice during her younger years- just to make it to the proud age of 106 to meet the first black president of the united states. I know racism is still alive, but that still is unbelievably heartwarming...
Yup, racism is alive and well. And Obama and his wife keep stirring that pot. There's plenty of 106-year-old men and women out there, but why just this one?
+Al Garabedian Well a presidency not only works over laws and policies, but also symbols and signals sent into the society, which can be done by single events as well as speeches etc. Which is what I love about the Obama's, they "preach" kindness, peace, equality, humor, a positive, open hearted attitude. As seen in the video. Unfortunately a president can only use symbolic events such as meeting this very lady but doesn't have the time to meet them all.
Brownland Cleve They preach kindness, peace, equality, humor, etc.? Are we talking about the same Obama family? The same family where Michelle Obama continues to spread her racist rants? The same Obama family that Barack Obama supports the BLM movement and does nothing to protect police officers all over the U.S.? Oh and just a couple of days ago during a press conference he held while in Louisiana because of the flood, almost a week after the flood happened because he was too busy golfing at Martha's Vineyard mind you, said, "I only have 5 months left, so I don't care about policy." I think you really need to take your head out of the sand. The Obama family have done nothing but run up a tab that they will never pay for and leave it for the American people to pay for. They have been a plague to this country. Both his administration and Bush Jr's administration have destroyed this country.
Al Garabedian because it was black history month you moron. Why would he pick a 106 year old white person of black history month? And he actually didn't choose her. Her white neighbors (one being the white lady in the background) started a Facebook group for her to get into the White House before she passes. Some people will find the negative in ANYTHING. Geez
This beautiful woman IS HISTORY she never thought she would see a day where there was a black president and black First Lady. First learn how to write correct English and then you may comment. Just because your opinion is different does not mean you can insult someone and call them a "parasite"
The fact and odd that she would even live to see this makes this clip worth it. I had a couple of aunts who were in their 90s when he was elected and they thought they would never see this day.
I know it made me tear up. people now adays well all of us complain about our lives and misfortunes but we really ha e no idea what people in the past have encountered. it is sad that men and women have died and been mistreated because of race and color. it's sad that history just keeps repeating itself bit I'm glad she got to meet him.
James Boss I know racism still exists, but segregation ended in 64. That meant black peoples were legally allowed to go to the same schools, colleges, workplaces, buses as white people. Obviously some areas would violate that law a bit, but segregation ended in in most areas. Racism still exists.
Her voice when she said, "a black president and a black wife" brought tears to my eyes!! I hope she gets the chance to see VP-elect Kamala Harris in person too!!

+John Smith You hate whites? Excuse me but, I don't believe we have met before. I'm a descendant of the Scots-Irish people (a group from Ulster county in Ireland) As my history tells me, the Scots-Irish people were slaves longer than any other race in the history of mankind. It was not just blacks who suffered, there were many, Asians, Italians, Russians, Irish, Scottish. These people, when they immigrated, were treated as inferior (having Irish blood was just as bad as having black skin) I have no issue with you-I've never met you. Please, learn more about the slavery of others, not just blacks.
VINCE SAVAGE ok I'm black and your comment does not make much sense. The Irish were slaves in other countries during different times before africans were brought to America, they immigrated here (majority) during the early 1900s due to the "AMERICAN DREAM" same goes for other nationalities.

Yeah, it was HOW she said it. That look in her face. My grandpa was born in 1903, died when I was tiny, but had told us his grandpa served in the Civl War, and he had known his gramma. So I suspect this old woman’s grandparents were slaves, and she might have heard their stories as a tiny girl. When she saw Obama, she was probably imagining her grandparents’ faces and how now finally they are free and equal.
Think about all the racism and bigotry and hatred she probably had to endure through her life. Edit: that’s a lot of likes and wow this reply thread got pretty heated
Yes, she was very specific on that, not only a black president but also a BLACK WIFE! A bright one, a beautiful one, a classy one. I have a crush on her.
I'm so curious. Being 106, she MUST have seen SO MUCH in her lifetime. I don't say that lightly, I mean LITERALLY. To be in a moment of time PHYSICALLY STANDING NEXT to a president of her country who is by chance the color once hated in her time, must have blown her mind. ... and then we had Trump... hmmmm....

Considering that when she was born, slavery only outlawed for not even 50 years yet. Amazing that she lives long enough to see the first African American POTUS.
Plus, she lived through all the segregation, desegregation, and civil rights movements
And in some places in America, slaves weren't free until the 30's. Imagine.

T-roy Stein Well, not ALL history. But it’s fascinating to know that she has live through two world wars.
+Brownland Cleve Well Said!
Geez

This woman lived 75 years of her life with segregation. Now she’s meeting the first black president. Wonderful.
Bryson Burnette you mean 54 years... segregation ended in 1964. She was born in 1910.
Who was the first black president?
Obama...?
Bryson Burnette he wasn’t black. He was mixed.
James Boss I know racism still exists, but segregation ended in 64. That meant black peoples were legally allowed to go to the same schools, colleges, workplaces, buses as white people. Obviously some areas would violate that law a bit, but segregation ended in in most areas. Racism still exists.

These people, when they immigrated, were treated as inferior (having Irish blood was just as bad as having black skin)
I have no issue with you-I've never met you. Please, learn more about the slavery of others, not just blacks.
John Smith Against racism yet you deem all whites as racists. Oh the hypocrisy.
The amount of stupid in your comment is amazing.

And now she gets to see a black vice president
