      Definitely but I also think that it's one of those tunes that take a couple of listens before you're able to fully appreciate it.

    Probably my all time favorite Zeppelin song, although I love them ALL. The lyrics here are extraordinarily powerful, the orchestration brilliant as always, the vocals otherworldly as always. A perfect, perfect song. Thank you for doing it! Great reaction!

    This song is a "deep cut" gem. To my knowledge, a hurdy gurdy is not used for the droning but instead it is Jonesy on synth and Jimmy using a bow on an acoustic guitar. I believe when Jimmy and Robert toured in the 90s for their "Unledded" tour, they had someone play a hurdy gurdy. I love how this song starts low, almost sinister, mysterious, reminiscent of a call to prayer or an invitation to witness from a far away location of time and place. The lyrical voice matches the drone until it switches to what feels to me, a cyclical groove until drawing enough power to lift one up and out to the light. It is truly ascendant. Both Robert and Jimmy thought this song very good, with Jimmy counting it his favorite from this album. There is an early version of this song on the expanded remastered cd set called "Everybody Makes It Through" which is vastly different.

      It was Nigel Eaton on hurdy gurdy for that tour. He used to be in a band called Blowzabella.

      On their mid-nineties tour, Page and Plant not only used the hurdygurdy bust also the Egyptian ensemble to great effect. I’ve watched several videos of this live from that tour, and they did a great job on the arrangement. As others have said, a deep cut gem.

    • @m.b-ee8815
      @m.b-ee8815 3 года назад

      It's a hurdy gurdy and a synth. You can see Jimmy holding a hurdy gurdy in the lakeside scene when his eyes turn red in The Song Remains The Same movie.

    • @henriettaskolnick4445
      @henriettaskolnick4445 3 года назад +1

      I'm not disputing the fact that Jimmy had a hurdy gurdy or that he could and did play one in his opening scene of TSRTS, however, according to interviews with the man himself, JPJ used a synth while he used a bow on an acoustic guitar for In The Light.

    You’re Invigorating my love of Led Zeppelin again playing whole albums the way I used to listen to them - place the needle in the groove and listen to each track in order. And getting to those tracks that aren’t played very often, rather than the standard reactions that are all over the internet. Back in the day the track order and listing on a vinyl was a considered and thought through process , both for fitting the tracks into the 20-25 min window, and link them together sonically.
    Not sure where you are with your Rush reviews, but Permanent Waves is a masterpiece IMO, that needs listening to as a whole, like Pink Floyd Dark Side of The Moon.

    • @pcjmwhyle1452

      @@GetSidewaysReacts I did watch the first Rush album reviews you did. But wasn’t sure if you’d done many individual tracks in the past. Weird as the Rush Army usually turn up all over, usually when YYZ (Rio) or Working Man (Cleveland) are reviewed 🙂🙂. Maybe try Working Man (Cleveland) to compare and constraint with Working Man off the first album, which IMO is an awesome straight rock album. It doesn’t have Neil’s cerebral lyrics but the guitar bass and John Rutsey’s drums are still awesome for the kids that they were.

    I saw Rubber Plant do this song on his Now and Zen tour. He had a band of young hotshots and he played some of my favorite LED ZEPPELIN songs like this one. I was blown away! I couldn’t believe he was doing them. It was pretty much my request list. Trampled Underfoot, Kashmir, Wanton Song, Rock & Roll, Immigrant Song etc. it was like watching the new LED ZEPPELIN.

    This is a childish thing to say but when I was younger I avoided this song like the plague. It had what I considered an “evil” vibe. Like other Zep songs it has this haunting musical tone in spite of the lyrics. Sounds stupid now that I’m older. Now? Probably my favorite Zep tune. Love it!

    I might be in a group of one here but I always had a problem with the major key bridging chorus' in this song. The track is on point for the most part tho' the structure seems to fall apart in these bridging sections and RP's phrasings kinda flounder a bit for me. Maybe it's because Led Zep rarely dedicated whole chunks of any song to a continuous major key for a reason....but hey...each to their own.
