Music: Funk Down - MK2 • Funk Down - MK2 (No Copyright Music)
James Joseph Brown (May 3, 1933 - December 25, 2006) was an American singer, dancer and musician. The central progenitor of funk music and a major figure of 20th-century music, he is referred to by various nicknames, among them "the Hardest-Working Man in Show Business", "Godfather of Soul", "Mr. Dynamite", and "Soul Brother No. 1". In a career that lasted more than 50 years, he influenced the development of several music genres. Brown was one of the first 10 inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on January 23, 1986.
Brown began his career as a gospel singer in Toccoa, Georgia. He rose to prominence in the mid-1950s as the lead singer of the Famous Flames, a rhythm and blues vocal group founded by Bobby Byrd. With the hit ballads "Please, Please, Please" and "Try Me", Brown built a reputation as a dynamic live performer with the Famous Flames and his backing band, sometimes known as the James Brown Band or the James Brown Orchestra. His success peaked in the 1960s with the live album Live at the Apollo and hit singles such as "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag", "I Got You (I Feel Good)" and "It's a Man's Man's Man's World".
During the late 1960s, Brown moved from a continuum of blues and gospel-based forms and styles to a new approach to music-making, emphasizing stripped-down interlocking rhythms that influenced the development of funk music. By the early 1970s, Brown had fully established the funk sound after the formation of the J.B.s with records such as "Get Up (I Feel Like Being a) Sex Machine" and "The Payback". He also became noted for songs of social commentary, including the 1968 hit "Say It Loud - I'm Black and I'm Proud". Brown continued to perform and record until his death from pneumonia in 2006.
Brown recorded and released 17 singles that reached No. 1 on the Billboard R&B charts. He also holds the record for the most singles listed on the Billboard Hot 100 chart that did not reach No. 1. Brown was posthumously inducted into the first class of the Rhythm & Blues Music Hall of Fame in 2013 as an artist and then in 2017 as a songwriter. He received honors from several other institutions, including inductions into the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. In Joel Whitburn's analysis of the Billboard R&B charts from 1942 to 2010, Brown is ranked No. 1 in the Top 500 Artists. He is ranked seventh on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time and at No. 44 on their list of the 200 Greatest Singers of All Time.
On Christmas Day 2006, Brown died at approximately 1:45 a.m. EST (05:45 UTC), at age 73, from congestive heart failure, resulting from complications of pneumonia. Bobbit was at his bedside and later reported that Brown stuttered, "I'm going away tonight", then took three long, quiet breaths and fell asleep before dying.
After Brown's death, his relatives, a host of celebrities, and thousands of fans gathered, on December 28, 2006, for a public memorial service at the Apollo Theater in New York City and, on December 30, 2006, at the James Brown Arena in Augusta, Georgia. A separate, private ceremony was held in North Augusta, South Carolina, on December 29, 2006, with Brown's family in attendance. Celebrities at these various memorial events included Michael Jackson, Jimmy Cliff, Joe Frazier, Buddy Guy, Ice Cube, Ludacris, Dr. Dre, Little Richard, Dick Gregory, MC Hammer, Prince, Jesse Jackson, Ice-T, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bootsy Collins, LL Cool J, Lil Wayne, Lenny Kravitz, 50 Cent, Stevie Wonder, and Don King.
James Brown’s body was placed in a crypt at the Beech Island home of one his daughters, family and friends of the soul singer said.
White balloons were released and Brown’s adult children and other family members and friends sang and prayed over the singer’s body, said the Rev. Al Sharpton, who presided over the noon ceremony.

Great man, I love JB. I understand him being buried in another place. Could be he liked privacy (I know I do). I think it could have been his favorite spot on his land. Going by all the beautiful pines in his yard, he had a nice place. Why leave it?. It would be cool when the iron gate is touched a recording yells.. "Get up off of that thang!". My favorite JB song!

I saw James Brown when I lived in Savannah in 2005 and he was amazing. It was an outside concert at Forsyth and he pretended to pass out from the heat. His guys threw a cape over him and walked him off the stage, then DUN-DUN-DUN GET ON OUT! And he slid back onto the stage. Everybody lost it. It was amazing.

Where he also grew up at, anyone that’s from down here can tell you that he grew up in Martin as well other than just Augusta, ga, he was a country boy. He came to my great grandmother house back in the 1970s when my great grandfather passed away and he brought her some flowers and a sympathy card. She told me this a few years ago before she passed away. His Brown family is right here in Barnwell and Martin, SC. Continue to rest on Fam🎼🎹🤞🏾. You made a huge impact on the entire world 🌎. My mother had his picture on a tv stand when he passed away. I was only 6 years old when he died. My nephew in law was James Brown’s bodyguard before he passed away. James Brown had handed my nephew Keith who they called “Snowman” a watch a Rolex watch James Brown asked if Keith could get it fixed for him, two months before he passed away the day that my nephew got it fixed and sent it back to James Brown the next day, James Brown died.

Very cool. 😎 My best memory of James Brown music is chilling with my mom, dad, and brother on a hot summer day during the 7th inning stretch at Candlestick Park, 3-COM, and AT&T, dancing to “I feel good,” and cheering for the best team in the MLB! 🌁 The mood of the crowd, whether we were winning or losing, became pure during that soulful anthem. Like being in church. In a way, that song break made everything ok because when James Brown projects, “I feel good,” no matter what’s going on around you or in you, you also feel good!
The rest of the song goes, “I knew that I would! So good! So good! Cause I’ve got YOU!”
Hell yeah James, RIP you funky SOB!! 🎶❤

One thing I love about your channel is you try not to bash or give tough love to people who have passed and are known for doing bad before they passed. We know James wasn't perfect. Multiple crimes committed, domestic violence relationships and many stories either true or alleged...... but he still deserve to be respected.
