You made me laugh... "let's just say you make the reasonable, responsible choice ...2 and 4..." 😆 Love your videos... if I can't laugh at what 50 odd years of "other" muscle memory has been doing to fight OT, then I would have given up the challenge long ago. I know you understand... thanks for making it doable. You are a wonderful teacher!
Bruce Molsky gave a workshop at our folk club the study of different types of bow pattern, people who classical trained try to play fiddle music thinking it is easier soon come unstuck with the complexity of old tyme bowing.
When you break it all down, yes, there's a lot of complexity to fiddle bowing! And we're constantly making choices about how to apply bowing patterns to what we're playing, and when. A lot of freedom, but also a lot of decisions to make :)
Nice. I'm a beginner but I feel like this is one of those techniques that will become so ingrained that it defines how I play. I only aspire to play old time fiddle with a banjo anyway, so this fits right into exactly what I'm trying to do. I open my practice up by shuffling through first position.
I believe this is the best explanation of the Georgia Shuffle I've ever seen and I've been messing around with fiddle for about 30 years -- excellent work
Cool video and as I sit here early, early morning with my freshly ground coffee it makes your presentation a wonderful experience. Thanks for posting this great teaching video.
Lovely video with great teaching! Thank you. 30 years of guitar and now just beginning some fiddle here, and discovering a whole world just in bowing. What are some good bowing techniques to play triplets?
Georgia shuffle has been the next challenge for me and it's been difficult! But very rewarding. Thanks for sharing your wisdom and techniques! (And don't worry about it, being cool is overrated.)
Fun! Nice video and interesting. I'll have to check out more as I try another stab at fiddling after not playing for a couple of years (I'm not that good anyway). New Hampshire?! My family has deep roots in NH, especially Weare. I have a fiddle (project in several peices but all there) made in Weare in the late 1800's. To fiddle or to fix - that is always the question. Thanks for some lovely music & instruction!
This was totally REEL, ur uh real. Yeah, that too. Once you start puttin’ noggin’ in your coffee, your down bows are longer, stronger and songer. Uh, yeah. GREAT VIDEO…keep em’ goin’
absolutely love your video - you are so much more animated today and I love it - I will really enjoy watching many times until I can too Shuffle . ta and see you soon
I've been looking for exactly this! The B part I learned to Arkasas Traveller is similar to the Clark Kessinger version with all 8th notes and I was having trouble getting it to groove 👌
I get a little confused cause you explain pattern on "hightone" part on "GROWLING OLD MANT...". However you only use that patter on first tune part (on performance video). Thanks for share your wisdom, is really aprecciated. I work hard to get other "rithms flows" on other song types like hornpipes, reels, jigs, ..., cause is not a popular wisdom on youtube fiddlers. Maybe you get a good idea for future video content. Thumbs U-U-UP! direcly from U-U-UP (the heaven)! ;)
Oh, right, it's true, in my arrangement of the tune for Patreon I only use the Georgia Shuffle in the A part. But for the purposes of this video, I showed how it would work in the B part as well. Thanks for pointing that out!

Yeah, you are really good at the Georgia Shuffle (I heard you do it in another video).
All this with a Baroque bow grip.
Darling Nice This is my Style i used this style in many songs very nice style
i like the way you hold the bow. i’m just starting . i thought you always hold at the 🐸 frog.
Very informative and helpful. Thank you and I love your relaxed manner of teaching...and playing. I wish I could be as relaxed as you when playing.
Thank you for watching, William!
Great lesson. From now on I'm all about the Georgia shuffle. And you demystified it so well!
