Took violin thru public school from 4th grade to age 18. I have ALWAYS wondered about this but of course there was no you tube back then and i wasnt in private lessons. Thank you. Ive picked up my violin again a few ywars back because my daughter started to play and im playing with her and its the best. I was searching around looking for how to play the chords , i feel like my fingertips are so large for 2 strings! 😂
Me to a couple years now, I'm starting to get it.Christian howes is another good teacher, I found him a few days ago and incredible yeah this lesson is good too I just found this channel very good thank you. Yeah being able to play the chords is key 🗝️ to the highway
Excellent video- I followed it straight through. I was always told double stops are dyads, not chords. Maybe they are not literally chords, but this video really explains their relationship to chords. Maybe I didn't ask the question correctly when I was younger, but now I understand. Thanks for the video
I love this, you're teaching chord inversions and chord shapes while also giving guidance on how to use them in a melody with minimal memorization. 100% one of my favorite teaching videos!
This is wonderful. I was here a year ago and I came back. All the things you need to know to play fiddle chords! I used to play chords on guitar in jams, if someone has that experience, it helps with this, play the chords you would have done on the guitar. (Hint: in a jam, look at the fingers of the guitar players, see a G, play a G, see C? Play that. Etc. People will think you're a genius LOL)
Very nicely done! I'm just a beginning fiddler coming up on my 1-year mark, but long ago was a Music major and grad student, so theory is second nature. I appreciate the great balance you strike in touching on theory as lightly as possible while encouraging attentive *listening*. Thank you!
Thank you Liz. I am a beginner and this is the very thing that drew me to want to play the fiddle. I love your teaching and your sounduition ( my word for your intuition for sounds and how and where to put them-litterally). I love the sound of the fiddle and I wanted to know how to play more than single notes. I've heard chords in tunes and they have drawn a desire to play them to make the music full. I am new to the fiddle and have not come across any one in my searching the videos with whom I can identify. You have an incredible gift. This is the 1st time I have seen one of your videos and I will be looking for more. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and talent and love for the fiddle. 🎶🎻❣
Excellent. Thank you. So clearly explained and just light hearted enough. I have known all this before, in a random sort of way but you pull it all together so tidily. Thank you.
So I just started the violin about a week and a half ago. This lesson was good but a bit detailed for me. If I remember, I'll try and revisit the video in about 6 months or so. I think I'll be able to keep up. Nonetheless, good job explaining!!
You certainly cleared up a mystery that no one else has come close to properly clarifying. Well done. That said, how about a little further insight to the E minor 4 cord. How does that work, still a bit murcky on this sixth note twist.
I'm just a beginner, but the whole reason I'm trying to learn chords as double stops is so that I can chop to accompany someone else who is playing the break. I'm going to need CLOSED chords to do that because I'm going to have to be able to stop the strings from ringing after I hit it on the chop. All the strings that I hit in the chop are going to need this, but is especially the G string, because it's going to ring and ring and ring unless I have some way of making it stop ringing. To stop the string from ringing, I come off of the fingerboard--but not off of the string--with the left hand, and that mutes it out. So, I need closed chords. I really can't handle this business that everyone seems to say that any 2 of the 3 notes in the major chord will work. I don't see how that can be--the tonic and third sound totally different than the tonic and the fifth, and playing the third and the fifth and calling THAT a I chord just strikes me as craziness. It doesn't sound like a I chord at all. As I say, I'm a beginner, but surely there are closed tonic-third or tonic-fifth combinations for the I, IV, and V for the common keys....
Different forms of a major chord sound different, but they all "work". One of many ways to make music interesting. Closed chords, root not necessarily the lowest: I: BG, IV: CE, V: A(or D with your 4th finger--harder to play in tune) F#
Im going to have to review this, sounds a.little like rock a.by baby? But thats good! I like simple. See ya tomorrow! And if i fudge, maybe the day after tomorrow. I only one day ago got my violin at tune at A=438hz. Im real slow so be patient with me. By the way! Your voice is beautiful!😅
I'm just starting out with the violin, do you have any recommendations for beginner friendly material, sheet music, viedos etc. Loved this video. Thanks
A double stop is just a bit of violin technique in that you play 2 notes at the same time thus on 2 different strings. A chord is a bit of music theory and it consists of 3 or 4 specific notes that you can play one after another (arpeggio) or at the same time. On the violin it is difficult to play 3 notes at the same time but you can play 2 at the same time (=double stop) and 1 or 2 notes after the double stop, or you can play a second double stop after the first one... Best for you is take some lessons in music theory : if you have an experienced teacher who is passionate about his subject it should not be boring... you just have to find the right teacher for you !
IVE BEEN MESMERIZED BY THAT FRENCH VIOLIN! I THINK, JACQUES BOCQUAY, PARIS, 1719-1736. BEAUTIFUL OXIDIZED WOOD, AWESOME SOUND. LIZ IS AN ARTIST IN MUSIC & MOTION. I'VE HAD NO RESPONSES FROM ANYONE ABOUT MY THOUGHTS.

Good subject.
Another helpful resource for figuring out any chords on violin is to first work them out on Mandolin.
A good idea it's doing the same right, in fifths
What a delightful young lady and a million thanks. Beautifully (and simply) presented. I may just keep on persevering ...

Wow, and this from an over-critical critic! Thank you 😊
It is very helpfull for me. Highly appreciated, you've brought me to step-step understanding and starting to put my basic skill on it.
step-by-step skill building

Great job on the explanation about chords on the fiddle .

Im going to buy a violin to play the fiddle

What's the difference between a chord and a double stop? I'm thinking maybe all chords are double stops, but perhaps all double stops aren't chords?

Very good explanation but now I know how Ignorant I am. Thank you for teaching..
Is your fiddle a Neuner Hornsteiner?
❤
How come you are holding the bow that way? I have small hands so I'm interested in your hold.
A W E S O M E
Where did you find your fiddle?
Please look up "JACQUES BOCQUAY, JACQUES BOQUAY" French maker in "Golden" period. Died 1736. That is why the sound, tone is so beautiful.

I think i am not qualified enough to get this completely.
Can I talk personally
