@@CarsWithSteve Utterly amazing truck.....I got a limited elite with all the bells and whistles....lots to learn especially at my age! The last truck I owned was 20 years ago.......I switched over to BMW and Benz cars and I must say this truck is close to those kinds of interiors and tech. Very close.
I haven't started reviewing BMW/Benz yet so it's good to know that the tech is close to on par! There's a lot to these newer trucks so I'm glad this video helped. Check out this other one on the digital cluster screen: ruclips.net/video/8oerV2kjNdg/видео.html
@@CarsWithSteve Thanks Steve, I will check that video out as well. When you review MB or BMW, the first thing you may notice is the backup camera is like in 4k or something. Not hazy or blurry at all. Lots of folks comment on that when I drive them around in mine. A minor thing for sure. But with trucks costing as much as my BMWs do (actually more with MSRP!!) customers may get precious.
MB reviews should be coming in the next few months! I've heard good things about the cameras and have definitely noticed other brands seem to be 720p.. maybe 1080 depending on the car. One thing I'd love to see is high def cameras that record while driving the same way Tesla does it, especially if the cameras are already there
I really like the big screen on the Ram's Info-tainment system. I can't honestly complain, as the screen in my car is 13 inches, but the ability to customize the widgets displayed on such a large screen is really appealing.
I finally finished this great video and you do show apple will go full screen for Google and waze, but android is half screen. This is insane and flat wrong. Thank you, I see it's different.
Thanks! Agree with you 100% that's it a weird choice to not allow Android Auto to go full screen. I'd recommend reaching out to Ram Canada or USA to tell them it's something you want to see
is there a way to have the default reverse camera view without the surround view inset, so it fills the entire half screen? Id much rather have a larger viewable area !
Great job. Big screen yes, but smaller camera view than my old 8.4" uconnect 4. I was hoping there was a way to make it bigger on this new system, but if there was, you would have shown it in this very detailed video. The backup camera view in my old 2014 Ram was the best ive seen in any vehicle. Would have been nice if this was at least as good !
Thank you! I didn't notice a way to go fuller screen with the cameras.. it's oddly the same way for most manufacturers but I think it would be great to actually use the full screen real estate
Exactly! I know the Ford Explorer has a similar thing where the whole screen real estate is utilized the way it should be. All we can do is call it out and hope it's eventually fixed
Careful wiring, pulling pieces and trimming as necessary. There are some great RUclips videos that show how it's done if you're handy. Car audio shops can also do it for you as well!
Good demonstration video. But one thing I need to know. My 71 year old brother in law bought a truck with one of these. I set it all up for him. Problem is when he goes to change to a different preset station he always touches the screen too long and messes up all his preset stations. So, please tell me after I re-program all his stations there is a way for me to lock all the presets so he can’t mess them up? Thank you. Tom
There's unfortunately no way to lock the presets in. They'd always be overwritten if the preset button is held for too long.. Sounds like that would be a useful accessibility feature though
@@CarsWithSteve I would think that would be a worthwhile addition to the radio. Oh will, I will just have to reprogram it for him occasionally! lol! Thanks for the reply! Tom
Hmm your build link said it was a limited longhorn. I can prob turn them on via alpha or JScan but telematics will zap them after a while. It’s so wired bc Ram has no consistency on these features. On top of that the internal modem will zap them if it feels you shouldn’t have them even though the functionality is there.
And another question.. Is there a setting where looking at one of the vehicle camera they stay on instead of blanking out after 20 sec or so and making the backup cam full screen?
You can set most volumes to a custom number through the infotainment system.. Settings --> Audio --> Audio Settings . Covered around the 20:20 mark of the video
I have a 2024 Ram Laramie that will not save the volume levels for phone ring, navigation, etc. Every time I start the truck, most of them default to 15, which is way to loud for the ring volume. Is there a fix for this?
I recently purchased a 2024 Ram 1500. It came with the small connect 5 which I didn’t like. My dealer told me I couldn’t buy a smaller touchscreen for the truck so I tried a Sony unit but the screen resolution is terrible nothing like the screen in my son’s 2500 Longhorn. Is there a place to buy this head in a 7 in screen that matches the resolution in his truck that fits my truck?
Yeah, you can definitely upgrade from the smaller uConnect 5 to the larger one.. it's pricey though. Cheapest option is to find a full head unit from a scrap yard and then have your local Ram dealer program it to your VIN and install it. More expensive option is to buy a new unit from Infotainment (carswithsteve.com/Infotainment) and then install it
Great video. I am looking for the page on the Uconnect screen for a 2022 Ram 1500, Limited, with Uconnect. I stumbled across a screen that showed braking efficiency, acceleration efficiency and overall fuel efficiency. It was an eco something or another. I cannot find it again. Can you help out by chance? This may not be the right place to ask the question but I cannot find the answer anywhere. Appreciate you considering lending a hand! Understand if you can't.
I don't recall coming across a screen like that before. I'll put it on the list to look out for next time I'm in a Ram though, unless you come across it first!
You said you would show how to change the truck’s Uconnect name for Bluetooth pairing but didn’t get to it. Would it be possible for you to add a pinned comment with those instructions in text?
Forgot to trim that part.. uConnect 5 oddly doesn't have a way to actually change the name which is usually under Settings --> Phone or Connections. The only way to do it would be to change the display name on your phone. Connect to your car and with your car you can do this on iPhone: go to Bluetooth and press the info icon for the connection under "My Devices". Select "Name" and change it to something else For Android devices, pull up bluetooth and under Paired Devices, select the gear icon next to your vehicles name. Press Rename, change the name and press Rename!
Depends on what year Ram you're planning on putting it in. If it's an older one you'll run into compatibility issues but if you're on a smaller version of uConnect 5 you shouldn't have issues upgrading to this one
I have a 2025 Ram 1500 Big Horn, out of the blue my CarPlay is not working. Do you think I can factory reset in the settings to reset? Or do I have to take it in for service?
You can try a soft reboot by pressing and holding the power button for 5-10 seconds.. battery pull would be another option. But if the message keeps popping up it'll need to go in for service
2023 Ram 2500 larimee level 1, 12" screen. On the backup camera display, bottom half is bright white , causing alot of glare at night... Can it be made full screen or black to cut glare?
@CarsWithSteve You know RAM doesn't listen to anyone. The fact they are using tomtom navigation says they went cheap and don't care. I noticed this after buying, for years they were much better. Tomtom is terrible, and the RAM group that got it should be fired.
They cheaped out big time. The fact the truck doesn't come with side runners blows my mind. Half the truck is halogen other half is LED. I have a 2 second glitch if watching a RUclips video through Bluetooth. The gps/console could've been alot better. Not a whole lot different then my 2021 model besides the screen, mirrors folding in and tail lights.

Edit: Im hearing the newest version with 360degree cameras default to the surround view with reverse gear, and other choices, such as the one i want, are unavailable. Software designers - what can you do ?
All good! The only reason why this one had the rear view there is because it didn't have the 360 camera. You can check under Apps --> All. Check to see if Rearview Camera is showing and then check it off

I wonder if the dealer fixed it without mentioning it last time it was in for service. Self parking, HUD and 360 camera are trim level and package specific.. So if you haven't added those on they can't really be added afterwards. I've heard the bluetooth issue from a few folks as well, have you tried a soft reset?
@CarsWithSteve Thanks, I was under the impression Ram special one year edition was gimmicky but it would check off all the boxes. At this price point I will say I'm disappointed but I appreciate the clarity. I have an oil change scheduled for tomorrow I'll ask if it was repaired without my knowledge.

IS THERE A SETTING TO HAVE THE RADIO STAY ON A LITTLE LONGER AFTER YOU SHUT THE TRUCK OFF
I haven't come across a setting to do that..
On your vehicle dynamic do you know why your left suspension shows partially yellow?
Do you have another icon showing up in the cluster with a little truck next to an exclamation mark?
It does appear sometimes but i feel just when the sensors are dirty
Also, I do not have the adjustable suspension height
Adjustable suspension was my first thought but if you don't have that option it could be a sensor issue or a fault with the suspension on that axle
How do you have performance pages included on that build. My 2023 limited does not have them
Not all trims have performance pages from the factory. You might be able to use AlfaODB or Tazer to add it in if you're tech savvy

Surprisingly no way to lock a camera. It stays on at lower speeds but will go away once you start driving faster
