Estelle Getty was a versatile actor. She could play funny moments and tearful ones at the drop of a hat. On the episode where her son Phil dies, her monologue, then “My baby’s gone!!” had me tearing up. When I was younger my brother passed away and seeing my parents tears-Estelle nailed it. If you haven’t done so already, try putting up Sophia’s heart touching moments too :D

Yes! Oh that episode really gets me. I think that is one of the few times she may have been outright cruel.
Though what was really funny is that when Dorothy threatened to send Sophia back to Shady Pines; Sophia tries to outfox her by saying that it wasn't too bad. But Dorothy is one step ahead of her by saying that she "heard they sold Shady Pines to some Germans."
Sophia was both sarcastic, AND wise. What an awesome combination. Today's writers could learn a few things from them.
