Well explained, but I think youtube is too different to tik tok to be threatened by it. After a youtube sesh I always leave feeling good, but after a tik tok one I’m almost always feeling bad. It’s like video candy. I think youtube still has its place.
That's an interesting perspective and something we didn't think of. Instagram kind of makes us feel that way 🙌🏼🙌🏾

The fans in TikTok are not real as RUclips I mean all the time you see TikTok star acting on someone’s music or a sound but when they come on life and talk it sounds so weird .

Getting these metrics so quickly has me wondering: Who is behind them?
Follows, Likes, and emoji-laiden comments are 100% black boxes on a platform like TikTok. It could literally be the system itself just doling them out, cranking the numbers up, and who would know the difference?
It's wild to see people so obsessed with vanity metrics, even wilder to see money being thrown their way when there's no way to prove any of this isn't just a platform doling out hype.
"You can get a million followers in 1 month!" and everybody flocks, not realizing those million followers are just a number that the platform steady raised with bots over time.
This video was incredibly well put together. As a smaller creator, I find it incredibly hard to gain traction on youtube while a couple of my low effort TikToks can gain thousands of views. RUclips makes it extremely difficult for small creators to gain exposure.
Fascinating! Bringing information and knowledge to topics no one else is covering. Gota love that breakdown. Favorite one yet.

Tiktok meteorically taking over the world algorithmically is so scary.
Love your breakdowns guys, i thought you also would talk about the tik tok algorithm that doesnt show “ugly or poor people” cause when im scrolling its true that you get caught watching in my case beautiful girls everywhere and that somehow make you stay longer in the app. Hugs from Mexico
There's definitely issues with the entertainment industry as a whole under-representing certain groups of people while elevating others. Not experts on the algorithms but would imagine they are no different. 100% worth an episode in the future.

Why did this get no replies
I think it's both overhyped by the biggest fans of the platform and underhyped by the people who "just won't download that cringe app"
It now has undeniable power and allows people to feel like themselves (of course, until it starts changing like every other app)
As for "Taking over RUclips", I think it definitely needs to change enough things about the app to render RUclips meaningless. RUclips has a better Search engine platform, better for multiple formats, better Copyright system (even if it still sucks), currently better monetization.
What matters most is audiences. If a creator/producer can continue giving valuable content to their audiences on a variety of platforms, they might just stay with them when RUclips and TikTok are dwarfed by some new platform called "Flimker"
Yeah, I was Creator On The Rise in Canada and I saw pretty much nothing from it haha.

I get absolutely nothing out of watching tik toks. A good RUclips video has so much more value.
There's things to be learned on TikTok, RUclips is just currently better if you know what you're looking to learn.

I did not expect/know TT biggest creators were hand picked.
What hurt from a creators perspective is one day I was eligible for monetisation, the next RUclips decided smaller channels weren't worthy. Sure, I wouldn't make much, but now that I have released a documentary I can't monetise it, these tools are only available to the big players.
The thought is delivered through great video making(this style is like the vox)

what's also interesting in TikTok that neither the 4you page nor the following page is organized by the date of posting, it's like a video in your following page can appear as the first one but its actually been posted 2 days ago , and its same in the 4ypu page
Yea sometimes we'll click on a creator's video from the fy page and it's from weeks ago.

RUclips thrives with long-form, but if that's too hard for younger generations to take part in, they'll have to adapt. Word is they are developing a TikTok competitor.

It's weird that people in America have close to no idea about the ridiculous things that happen on TikTok, not to forget all the accusations against the company. TikTok has been a platform that, thanks to it's "Low Barrier to Entry", has allowed countless videos with absurd subjects ranging from explicit Animal cruelty to sexually inappropriate content. And don't forget - all this is on a platform that has close to no actual applicable regulations or age barriers. Everything is available to everyone. And just like you came across an onion cutting tutorial or the guy randomly stumbled across Peacock videos, children and teenagers randomly stumble upon videos of animals being tortured. The quick rise to fame that TikTok offers is a cheap attraction to children and young teenagers today and that, in all honesty, is toxic. RUclips, as a platform is leagues better than TikTok and to even think that TikTok will take over RUclips is just wrong. Super short, effortless 15 second videos is not the way to go for the future minds. As much as i am hesitant to do this, i have to point out something Logan Paul said on his podcast. He mentioned how his rise to fame on Vine was phenomenal but after it shut down, he and his fellow creators managed to translate those entertainment skills to work on RUclips. How many kids who lip syncing to songs that aren't theirs, dancing to moves that they only picked up because it was trending, can actually translate their "talents" after TikTok is gone? And it is just a matter of years before this situation blows up in either direction.
Ps. Great breakdowns, you guys have perfected these over time.
Interesting take for sure and appreciate the kind words at the bottom. We love long comments. The exposure to explicit and sexually inappropriate content will always be an issue for social media platforms. RUclips has had major issues with that and continues to struggle and figure it out. W/ TikTok expanding in the U.S. they will 100% have to build out their defense to this type of content too. RUclips is the best at what it does, long form user generated content...but it's hard to make, and harder to find success with. If they don't change their product, younger generations may stop creating for the platform (they already are)...and that's an issue no matter how big or great the library is. The good thing about kids lip syncing to songs that aren't theirs...is that it takes courage to put themselves on camera...and to start creating in the first place. Lip syncing could be their introduction to video-making, to starting a career as as storyteller, and that's impactful. That same kid may never upload a youtube video. 🙌🏼🙌🏾

Like you don't need to do much to get views
For example TikTok dancers, you can learn it in minutes and get so many views but with a real dancer who works hard and makes a dance in a month (shorter or longer than that) and they get less views
It's just crazy
That's why I don't go on TikTok and for other reasons

Just started watching this vid and heard you say what’s RoadBlox Colin. My kids are literally playing Roadblox with their cousin across the country right now in the kitchen. They talk over video Alexa while they each play on a laptop. So interesting to see what platforms and devices these next generations will spend their time on.

Getting views on RUclips is hard because RUclips has to put their money where their mouth is. When views turn into payments, they're forced to be REAL about their views.
When your platform has no financial incentives, there's nothing stopping that platform from just raising those vanity metrics.

Tiktok is still like vine for me, I can easily get hours of entertainment from it but there’s no real substance compared to RUclips. There’s a reason a lot of viners and even now Tiktokers are coming over to RUclips. Those Howto videos on tiktok for example aren’t really teaching you as much as a more in-depth RUclips video or video series could.
RUclips is still #1 for long-form instructional..no doubt 🙌🏼🙌🏾
