    I think if the pandemic never shut down movie productions and caused all these delays then Halloween Ends would have been a different film then what we got. I agree with Mike that it's a good stand-alone movie but as the 3rd film in a Halloween trilogy it failed.

    Besides rewrites, i believe this was a creative way to end the franchise. Especially after 20+ years of Michael Myers, it would have been hard NOT to make a stereotypical walk around and slash film that we have seen recreated. This film put some things down for the next Halloween creators to either pick up or scrap. This film was about the fear of Michael Myers, what it has caused, and what really happens when you look into those eyes. People affected by Michael didn’t wanna leave town they wanted revenge. Becoming less and less of themselves and more vengeful/empty. Leaving room for Corey to exist.

    If Corey and Cameron were the same guy, and he survived the events of Kills... EVERYTHING WOULD MAKE SO MUCH MORE SENSE.
    If Cameron and Allyson survive a face off with Michael, their relationship is already established and we don't need the honeymoon/love blossoms story that Ends tells.
    Both of them losing a mother and father - both halves of the parental unit - inside of the Myers House is perfect for explaining why they're broken after.
    Also, 2018 and Kills constantly push that the Elams are looked down on by the town. It would make the outcast treatment of Corey much more fitting if it was Cameron instead.

    • @CarloisBuriedAlive
      @CarloisBuriedAlive 10 месяцев назад +5

      And switching the basic idea of Kills and Ends…imagine Michael being injured because of the fire, Laurie calming down because she thinks she got him (rather than her calming down while he’s loose lol) Cameron being in the Corey role, and by the third movie we have a big slasher movie like Kills where Michael and “Corey” are going on their own separate killing sprees (instead of following that Tivoli shit) with Allyson trying to stop Corey and Laurie trying to stop Michael - old generation and new generation, evil ACTUALLY changing shape, etc. and then Allyson gets her time as the new final girl after everything she went through
      The second movie being a true quiet character study that dissects Michael’s evil and the third being a huge bloody climax

  • @KyleKaiser7
    @KyleKaiser7 10 месяцев назад +8

    I enjoyed these three Halloween movies, but the backlash they received got me thinking about what I would have done differently with them (which is always fun to think about). Personally, I would have had 2018 be the way it is (maybe with some minor tweaks😅), and have it end the exact way it did; Laurie, Karen, and Allison get away, and we see the basement burning with no Michael in it. The Myers house would be demolished, like it was in Ends, leaving Michael with nowhere to go back to and in search of a new “home.” The next movie, which would be my final movie if I had it my way, would be a continuation of 2018 with Allison in her senior year at college in a different state (maybe somewhere semi-close to Illinois, or in California if you want to pay homage to H20). With Halloween approaching, Allison begins to see Michael during the day, just as Laurie did leading up to Halloween night in 1978. Of course, Allison assumes she’s hallucinating from some resurfaced trauma from 2018, as Michael is there and gone like in the original movie. Allison has a strange feeling that these “hallucinations” are real, as people around campus are starting to go missing day by day. Allison begins fearing the worst and realizes that this time, she must face Michael alone; with no Karen or Laurie to help her, she begins to lose control. Those around her are concerned for her wellbeing, but she is not having any of it. Her friends decide to distance themselves from her, and her boyfriend, unable to deal with the situation, breaks up with Allison. This leaves Allison isolated, paranoid, and afraid, just like her grandmother. The ending would conclude with many people being victims of Michael until Allison is forced to confront him one-on-one in a similar chase scene to H20 (Allison is being chased around campus, and eventually uses her “home field advantage” to get the upper hand). I would end the movie with a definitive conclusion with Allison coming out the victor, but I would not be mad at all with an open ended conclusion if someone were to do that instead.
    Obviously there is a lot more that would tie into the movie, but this is what I just thought of when Ends came out and all of the backlash happened. You could include Laurie and/or Karen in the movie, but if I did it might be something as simple as Allison on a phone call with her mom and another call with her grandmother on vacation with her husband, Frank Hawkins, in Japan under cherry blossom trees. I think Allison going through a similar situation as Laurie with everyone leaving her isolated and viewing her as a basket case would be interesting because Allison would now understand why Laurie was the way she was, and everyone thinking she is crazy would make sense because they are outside of Haddonfield where Michael is not a well-known figure. I don’t know, just my thoughts😅, as I am sure there are plenty of flaws in it like people wanting to know how Michael escaped the basement and made it to another state; however, I feel like what has always made Michael so scary was that things are not always explained with him, and that is what makes him more terrifying. There would also be a lot more stalking and shots in the movie of him in the background observing things, as this is how he was in the original movie (he stuck to the shadows and let the suspense build instead of charging in like a mindless monster, which I also find more terrifying). Also, I miss seeing Michael out in the daytime, as there was a whole other level of horror involved in him being out in broad daylight; this opens the door for him to be more of a presence throughout the movie, not just at nighttime.

    • @nolipgloss1343
      @nolipgloss1343 9 месяцев назад +1

      Hey at least you gave it some thought and not just saying why didn't we meet Corey earlier? (Like that matters) I don't think Micheal has stalked anyone for the purpose of killing except Annie (yup I said it), he rolls up on Judith like he does everyone else and wasn't running across to street to take out Laurie until she discovered his "art" over at Lindsey's house. Could he have become equally as fixated on Allyson? Absolutely. In 2018, they were in the backseat together, she stabs him and in Kills he is toying with her in his house. I enjoyed all 3 movies as well. Had he followed Allyson to college the hate would have been oh they did Scream 2. People don't want original and they don't want the same, they just want to complain.

    • @KyleKaiser7
      @KyleKaiser7 9 месяцев назад

      @@nolipgloss1343 I get it. Part of my explanation for why Michael would seemingly stalk Allison at college stems exactly from your points. She was in the backseat of the police car when Dr. Sartain got attacked, and Michael basically let her live by attacking Sartain (showing how much he hated that man😅), she helped her mom and grandmother trap him in the basement, then she went into his home, tried to shoot him, stabbed him, and then taunted him. I think Michael did feel hatred towards Allison in Kills because there is a moment, at the top of the stairs in the Myers house, when he stops to look at Allison, and I felt like that was a look of, “YOU! I remember you!” If Michael is truly human (which they also never truly decided; one minute he was “just an old man in a mask,” and the next he’s wiping out half the town) then he should have human emotions such as hatred. I wish there would have been a moment in Ends where Michael saw Laurie’s picture of herself and her friends from back around 1978; perhaps that could have been the moment where Michael realizes who Laurie is, but they also never truly decided whether or not Michael was after Laurie. 2018 made it seem like his sole purpose was to find Laurie and kill her, Kills made his purpose to simply go back to his house, and Ends was mostly other characters. They danced around the idea too much without pulling the trigger on it, which I think wasted time and potential. I agree that it would have made the trilogy better if there were more characters who were present throughout all of the movies. Corey easily could’ve been a side character that everyone in the school saw as the shy, weird kid; you could have had a simple exchange between Corey and Cameron that shows Cameron’s underlying d-bag tendencies by bullying Corey, and have Allison stick up for him like hey knock it off. That would also set up more backstory as to why Corey was so obsessed with Allison; she was the only person who was nice to him back then, and here she is 4 years later and he has the chance to be with her, just like he wanted, and he wasn’t going to let anything stand in his way of being with her.

    • @nolipgloss1343
      @nolipgloss1343 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@KyleKaiser7 It's highly likely that Allison's actions, especially that crucial moments in the Myers house did make an impression however, with Carpenter's script approval and control over Micheal as a character, he is pure evil and that's all we are going to get. I'm ok with that because I'm not a big 4-6 fan when Michael was not the Shape but basically the main character. It's unfortunate that Allyson's character development wasn't built around what was already set up as it does appear to be more complexity to the dynamic between Allyson and Michael than presented in Ends. The concept of a Cameron-Corey-Allison dynamic is intriguing, although Corey's age (20 in 2018) might have posed a challenge for inclusion in their peer group. Allyson's attraction to the darkness within Corey could have added significant depth, but it seems these aspects were left either unexplored or the visual clues didn't land in Ends. While the trilogy certainly had its moments, it's captivating to consider the uncharted territories they might have ventured into. Ends was a success because we are still talking about it and more than 2018 and Kills.

    I always thought the entire trilogy should of started with Corey being a copy cat style serial killer with Myers slowly making a return. Halloween 2018 would be the second film and the 3rd film would be the events of Halloween Kills.

    I like this film. I have a slew of problems with it, but I enjoy talking to other people about it. But often new points get brought up that give me even more problems.
    Indecision is huge in a franchise like this. I don’t think that 2018’s ending was incredibly satisfying, but that’s probably the best we’ve gotten because there is no clear way to kill off an unkillable character. And calling the movie “Halloween Ends” was a mistake. They had a start point but no real end in mind so they had to do weird things to get there.

    I think they messed up with making the first two movies the same night, just like the original… they should have had Kills begin with Michael escaping the fire and then flashforward. The timeframe of the one-night is messed up in both the original Halloween II and Kills because of this stretch. If they had just based Kills in a different year, and maybe then introduce Corey, etc. it would have made more sense.
    Also, why is Michael unstoppable?
    Is it “Samhain”, which is some reason a part of the title of Laurie’s memoir, but not mentioned in this trilogy, and retconned beforehand?
    Also, if he’s unstoppable, how was he apprehended and committed for 40 years? What stopped him from killing all of his fellow inmates and hospital staff?
    It’s that goddamned silver shamrock mask, I tell you. He didn’t have it, podcasters gave it to him, he decides to escape. It gets burned up and he loses his power. It’s the mask. The mask is his power.
    😝

    I've been seeing all the fans online bashing everything about this one since opening day, but the one key thing that bothers me about it is in the story . Laurie Strode spent 40 years obsessing and preparing for the day that Michael would return, and then after that actually happened, he would get away at the end of Kills, and then she just casually leaves that mode to be more like Martha Stewart ? No way, nobody would do that after the story was what it was.

    Why mm is my favorite horror villain is because I find him the most compellingly scary, at least conceptual. The shape is haunting because it has no motive; it is evil unfiltered and pure. It's that lack of motive that makes him almost supernatural, as if something not of this world broke into our reality on Halloween and chose an innocent child as a vessel. Simply the blackest eyes. For me, that's who Michael myers really is, and that's when his lore is at its' peak imo.
    He's not a mentally challenged momma's boy like Jason. He's not a perv after his own desires like Freddy. He's not inspired by scary movies like Ghostface. Etc, etc.
    But in this movie, the babysitter is full of motives. His obvious motives made his victims all the more obvious and mundane.This could've been an interesting movie if it had nothing to do with the Halloween franchise.
    That's just one major problem I have with this film as part of the Halloween franchise. I don't have the number of texts to type all the other ones 😅

    I'm with J on this one. I actually enjoyed Ends more the second time I've watched it but I still think it's the weakest out of this trilogy because it doesn't even feel like a logical continuation from where Kills left off. If they wanted to explore Lauries trauma in 2018, the towns trauma in Kills and how it all affected future generations in Ends, they really should have focused on Allyson as the main character instead of having her as a love interest in a forced as f*ck relationship. It could have been such an interesting trilogy about how random acts of violence affect people for generations. But instead they did... this.
    I get some of it and enjoy some of the scenes. Think the acting is good, the music is fantastic. But it is just so poorly executed. I still enjoy this one more than some other Halloween movies but it's still such a dissapointment since I loved 2018 and Kills so much more.

    As a huge fan of the franchise in all, not just MM, or one or two of the movies, I'm against the loud voices of the minority i love this movie, loved the ending too, watching Michael getting turned into smush and Laurie getting her happy ending, they needed a definitive ending for their storyline, so this was definitive and there is no coming back to the strode storyline, which the "majority" of the fan base wanted, then they moan that MM was disrespected, not sure how you should respect a killing machine lol . I didn't mind the risks they took, the only bit I didn't like was when Corey took the mask of MM the way he did. We need to get away from the "MM wasn't on screen enough" BS excuse as well, there is to many sheep in this fanbase, one person says the "hate" it and then everyone joins in claiming the same, despite either never seeing the movie, or watching it once, and never going back to it again. Rant over, i respect people not liking this movie if they can actually give constructive reasons as to why (Like Mike and Jay with their awesome opinions) but i just think the negativity that comes out these days through social media unfairly influences people before they even see the movie, and believe they will hate it, watch it and have to say it was shit as they follow the social media influencers, no one has their own opinions these days which is sad. I'm soon to be forty and i remember word of mouth hype and how amazing it made going to the cinema, nowadays its all negative shite that comes out of peoples mouths destroying the actual movie experience. My original score was 7.5 and it remains at that for me. Ends wasn't the issue, Kills is where the story derailed as they made MM supernatural at the end of Kills, meaning Ends was always going to be a bit strange storywise in the fans eyes.

    You said; they introduced Corey way too late in this story for any of this to make sense.
    Much like the Star Wars sequel trilogy, the DDG Halloween trilogy fails because there wasn't any singular vision guiding this. And let's remember, there were never plans in 2017 to have a trilogy. It was just that H2018 did so well, they got greedy. H2018 works as a final film for the franchise, and that film had a much better final fight.

    Writing 101. NEVER introduce a new antagonist into the 3rd act of a 3 act play. It's confusing and disingenuous.
    Ends didn't deliver in what had already been established in the previous 2. J is right. DGG tried to think outside the box and give us something different. The problem is, we wanted what was already in the box. An epic finale where its all about Michael and Laurie.
    Corey was nothing but a rehash Cunningham character from Christine. Hawkins character went nowhere. Sheriff Barker, missed opportunity. Lindsay was forgotten about, just like Laurie's description of Michael at the end of Kills. And Alyson. WTF!?!?! The one character I disliked more than Corey, and I loved her in 2018 and Kills.
    Ends is a prime example on how to completely fuck a trilogy.

    If Micheal had killed half the people in the junkyard and the radio station, and after Micheal killed Corey's mother, Corey went after Laurie; and, Micheal snapped and mutilated Corey. Then, like in the book, the fight goes longer, and it takes us to the Myers Memorial where Laurie gets saved by Allison. Then, the movie wouldn't have been half bad. Corey never takes the mask, and Micheal cleans up the mess of Corey by people who would have escaped in the junkyard and radio station.

    Good video! The shape is pure evil and that gives him the strength to do the things he does and withstand damage like no one else. He is not Jason as we saw in Kills he stopped the bleeding on his hand so we know he cures his injuries just don't show that because that is part of the mystery. I agree with everyone that Laurie and the shape should have died together in a much longer fight scene than what we got. Hell, I would have had Hawkins in that final fight as well to try and redeem himself maybe saving Allyson from the shape, and then Laurie jumps in and blows the shape's arm off completely with a shotgun and we see the shape and Laurie both dying together would have been a much dramatic ending in my opinion. Ends to me was really bad movie I felt they disrespected the shape big time. Corey should have been introduced in 2018 and would have been better and we would had the story of a copycat killer and then the real Michael shows up.

  • @DesiSJ

    They couldn't introduce Cory in Halloween 2018 because that wasn't the plan. The original plan was to have this all in one night (You know that, I know) but Covid happened and it gave the writers too much time on their hands. I wish they'd had this idea first. I also wish that if they had decided to do it, they would've made it maybe Cameron or even Tommy Doyle. Someone we somewhat cared about. They couldn't do that either because they killed nearly all their legacy characters. Its very weird because I actually do LOVE Halloween Ends, but I'm so frustrated with the sloppy storytelling of the trilogy. They should've stuck with the original plan of making it all one night and then done this. Put the end of Halloween Ends at the beginning and then you throw in the Cory storyline and make it a whodunit...its a better conceived idea. Is Michael alive? Do we have a copy cat? Has evil taken over the town and picked a new person? Is the radio tower on an anciet burial ground causing evil to spread? SOMETHING, MAN! I needed something with that damn radio tower!
