*SPOILER WARNING. Don’t read this comment if you haven’t seen the movie yet.* After being disappointed by both Halloween 2018 and Halloween Kills last year, I had little faith in this movie being any different and decided to wait for a streaming release before seeing it. And good thing I watched this on Peacock, because if I had paid the extra money to see this in the theaters, I would have been f***ing PISSED! They completely mismarketed this movie in all the PR & trailers to make audiences think they were getting one type of movie when they were actually getting something they didn’t sign up for. Now, to be fair, I do think this is a much better written film than Halloween Kills. Halloween Kills didn’t have much of a story at all really. It was just “Michael and the Haddonfield mob pit against each other for one night. Kill, kill, F***ING KILL!!!” And that wasn’t interesting to me; the kills were entertaining, but I wanted a good story to go along with all that carnage, and Kills didn’t deliver on that. This film at least does have a *somewhat* interesting narrative, and the cringy over-dramatic Shakespearean dialogue from the last film has been heavily toned down here, which I do appreciate. Laurie Strode also feels the most like a genuine relatable human character in this final film of the trilogy and the closest to the original Laurie Strode from 1978; I felt they went a little ham-fisted with the way they tried to make Laurie a Sarah Connor type character in the first two films of the trilogy. The problem: At its core, I think the story they wanted to tell in this film is admittedly a compelling idea that could have worked as it’s own standalone Halloween anthology film….but it has no place being in THIS movie that’s supposed to be the final film in a trilogy & marketed heavily as a Michael/Laurie centric story. This film takes some wild, bold, ballsy, risky decisions with the direction they take certain characters that is going to heavily divide Halloween fans, and ultimately I feel will earn this film the title of “The Last Jedi” of the Halloween franchise (And based on both my experiences with the Halloween Facebook groups I'm in and your rant on toxic fandoms, that notion seems to be being proven right). Some people I’ve seen have been praising the film for how unique and fresh and different it is. Others, like me, will be up in arms & bewildered by why they chose to take such wild swings with the story, when all they needed to do is deliver on the film they advertised to us. And they do give us that, but it doesn’t become the primary focus of the story until the last 15 or so minutes of the film, and even then, it feels like a rushed afterthought. This film is supposed to be about Michael and Laurie coming to blows one final time; it’s in the name of the movie even. Why are we sidelining that and focusing so much on Corey Cunningham, a seemingly random character we don’t give a shit about & have not met before in this trilogy up to this point. Why is he the central character of this final film (Which btw, his character arc in this film ultimately feels inconsequential with what they do with him by the end)? Also, because they focus so much on the Corey character, they REALLY neuter the character of Michael Myers to an almost insulting degree in this film, which is not gonna sit well with a lot of fans. Not only does it make no sense, nor is it ever properly explained, why Michael is so pathetically weak considering the way the last film ended, or why he would let Corey go instead of killing him outrighg & team up with him later to kill people & essentially become “Stabman & Robin” (Which was never his MO in any of the previous films), or how Corey, a 5 foot something kid who’s bullied by band class students, is able to overpower & beat the shit out of the 7 foot epitome of evil that is Michael later in the film, but he only gets three kills in this film. Let me repeat that: Michael Myers. The face of the Halloween franchise. The guy who we go to these movies to see in the first place. Is not only barely in the film, but also only gets three kills in the WHOLE movie. While the majority of the kills are committed by a nobody character we don’t give a crap about…WTF? (The kills themselves are also pretty weak and are a HUGE step down from Halloween Kills imo, with the exception of one or two standouts, neither of which are committed by Michael). This film basically tells Busta Rhymes from Halloween Resurrection to hold its beer with how much the character of Michael Myers is shit on in this movie. The ending does save the film somewhat from being a complete disaster, as it does have the integrity to definitively kill off Michael & END the story (Which is in the name of the movie) on a hopeful note for Laurie Strode, which considering this is Jamie Lee Curtis’s final outing as the character, I thought was a satisfying way to send her off from this franchise; They don’t cop out and tease the possibility of Michael returning for another movie or whatever. But the final fight between Laurie & Michael, the thing the entire movie was sold on & the thing we came to the movie to see in the first place, I felt was way too short & anticlimactic, and Laurie kicks Michael’s ass way too much. The fight imo should have been at least a few minutes longer/more drawn out & have Michael give Laurie a bit more of a beating, so as to really raise the stakes & tension about who’s gonna live and who’s gonna die. There are quite a few other issues I have with this film as well including logic issues, plot contrivances, missed opportunities in character development, etc. But I think I’ve been ranting long enough and don’t wanna spend another five hours in this comments section lol. TL,DR version: Halloween Ends is a huge disappointment, and is a weak conclusion to the Halloween H40 trilogy imo. It is a movie with a story that should have been its own standalone horror film; it should NOT have been shoehorned to be the central focus of this final Halloween film and distract/take precedence over the thing the film sold itself on & what we came to see: Michael and Laurie’s rivalry coming to an end. PSA: Really appreciate you calling out the toxic fandom in your review. One of the most annoying frustrating things I hear from people who are fans of the movie is "PeOpLe wHo HaTe oN ThIs mOvIe aRe NoT tRuE fAnS, aNd ThEy JuSt dIdN't gEt WhAt tHeY WeRe gOiNg FoR! REEEEE!!!!" I hate remarks like that because it is such a non-argument & a lazy dismissal/deflection of criticism trying to make it seem like it's the VIEWERS's fault that they didn't enjoy the movie, and ultimately it stems from a place of elitism (And anyone who saw the argument I had a couple years ago with another toxic RUclips commenter on my comment that got pinned by Kylie for her Halloween 2018 review will understand what that's like). This is a slasher film, not some high concept multilayered arthouse project. You shouldn't have to watch the film multiple times to "get it" per se and actually enjoy it. If my gut instinct tells me while watching a film like this that the movie sucks, I'm gonna trust that instinct.
I'm sure this movie will get its flowers in the following years once people cool off on it not being a Michael Myers movie. I respect your opinion on not enjoying it, but I don't think it's a bad movie at all. It's honestly probably in my top 3 of the Halloween franchise. DGG implemented the DNA of his earlier films into this and I personally enjoyed the direction he took Michael. The events of Kills caught up to him and he needed a new vessel to assist him in getting back out there. The idea that Michael is basically an infection on the town of Haddonfield is very Stephen King and cool. I also knew about the Corey twist when it first leaked earlier in the year, so maybe I would've hated this film going in blind rather than already accepting this was going to be something different. I also read the novelization and it's WAY more in-depth about certain elements and gives Michael more screen time. Sadly, I don't think a 2hr30min Halloween movie would've flied for some people, but there was definitely stuff from the novelization (which was based on drafts for the actual film) that could've been added in to make everything more cohesive.
Did you really want another rehash of 2018 and Kills? I think the writers shot themselves in the foot by already delivering the final fight in 2018 and then deciding to stretch the premise into a trilogy. There wasn't much story left to milk out another movie.
JLC said multiple times that the Halloween movies were nothing but a paycheck for her, and now we’re supposed to believe that she cares for them… and the FORCED TEARS UGH
It would’ve been so much better if Corey was introduced in Halloween 2018 as Allisons boyfriend and instead of focusing in him turning to the dark side in the last film it would’ve been better to have him as one of the survivors with Allison and maybe Laurie
@@TRal55 They really couldn’t, but at least if they’d taken out the first bf and replaced him with Corey, we’d at least have *some* history/connection.
The director saying that people are going to hate the movie tells you everything you need to know. A random teen love story masquerading as not only a Halloween movie, but supposedly the last ever Halloween movie. All the decision makers involved have convinced themselves this would be a good idea 😂
Watch we watch movies they have a couple good videos expressing their understanding of not just the film, but actors, directors etc. But most importantly the Fandom. Much like haunted hippie (heyy kylie) even when they extremely dislike the movie they remain open minded and are always there to just talk about the movies. It's refreshing 😌
If you like sane, tempered commentary, I think you'll appreciate both Dave McRae's review and Cody Leach, as well. Well-spoken guys with a well-thought-out take on this film and all their reviews, in general.
@@B1Kobe0824 everyone is entailed to their own option. To me this movie could be a mess, to you it might be the best Halloween movie ever made and that’s alright. No problem there. What annoys me about your comment is your assumption that I and others who think this movie is messy are just “watching the films” on a surface level and just don’t understand it. Speaking for myself, I think this movie is messy from a technical and writing perspective. I know what they were going for, I’ve seen all the interviews with Green. I understand what he was aiming for, however, me thinking that he did not succeed in achieving what he was aiming for is not me “not understanding”. I’m a filmmaker and a writer and when I watch movies I dissect everything from that perspective. I’ve even talked with Kylie saying I wish I could just turn that off and enjoy a movie for what it is. Again if you enjoyed the movie, more power to you. I wish I could’ve done the same. I think this film is messy not because I don’t understand it but from a technical, storytelling, and marketing prospective, and that’s just my opinion.
that's my issue, if they did that with Laurie it would of made more sense if she took on the "the shape" aka Michael Myers mantle because it's established that she's been on the verge of sapping in the last two films
Ok, 1st of all... "THANK YOU"... I have literally been waiting for your review. I have a lot of respect for your input and experience on all films that you speak of. I couldn't agree more on everything you said about this film. I went to see Halloween ends with my husband. We have been going to the theaters to see every single film and I was not going to break that tradition. I went to see it blindly as well, I took your advice of not watching previews, and after watching Barbarian, I totally understood why. I went into it knowing that this might not be a good film... I mean if we have learned anything about sequels is that, they are not all created equal, and with Blumhouse being involved I had low expectations honestly. A part of me wanted to hate the film for all the reasons mentioned; the introduction of a new character so late in the game, the time frame, the fact that you dont see Michael Myers very much etc etc. But I couldn't.... I love Halloween, I love Jamie Lee Curtis and her character. I personally got what I wanted in a way, a last show down between Myers and Laurie and his final demise, and I got it. The kills where good ( not better than Halloween Kills, but the blow torch scene I mean, come on and the Radio Dj, brilliant). All in all, was it the best, no... but it was closure for me. I am so sad and tired of all these people breaking the film apart and doing the whole, should have, could have, would have. Like we get it, you could have made a killer film, but you didn't so sit down and shhhh...lol. Anywho, again thank you for this video...I literally enjoy all of your videos and sorry for my bad spelling and writing, English is my second language so at times I I don't make sense..lol. Happy Scares. 🎃🧡🔪🕷🧟♀️
Man both Jurassic World and Halloween had super underwhelming confusions to their trilogies. At the beginning of Ends I thought “ok this is maybe a cool concept” but by the middle I knew that this movie was just a bad idea. Like they throw away all the setups of characters in the previous movies and they introduce Corey out of nowhere and make him the focus? 😭 Because it’s the last movie, it should be all about Michael and his evil, maybe make it even more chaotic and epic than Kills. but instead he’s barely in the movie and his death doesn’t feel earned or climactic enough at the end….. 🙄
They completely did a major mistake with Halloween Ends. They took a icon who has a devoted following for the last 40 plus years and made him a weak old man in his final film. Michael is a force of nature. John Carpenter said so himself. The entire time I watched Halloween Ends I felt like I was watching an imposter Myers. Instead of being an unstoppable force of evil as he should have been, Myers instead relies on Corey to do the killing for him. Not the way to treat the most iconic Horror character in history.
I really liked Corey's arc and actor but agree that it shouldn't have been the last installment for this particular story, such an odd Last Jedi level course correction.
Cory should’ve at least been introduced in Halloween Kills, it seems like too much of a ploy to have a brand new character take over the last installment all for him to just kill himself off before Michael does. So it’s like it didn’t even matter in the end
@@mega6836 I would think so too, but I feel he would’ve ended up getting retconned in later installments if that be the case. Just like what happened to Jaimie Loyd, and her character being wasted in the end
This is wild, but I’ve been watching this channel for months and my mind was blown when you mentioned and showed Somnum, because my gf is your lead actress 😂!! I was like babe I just saw your face on this awesome RUclips channel, you’re famous!
At first I thought I liked this movie except the ending, but quickly I disliked the whole movie. But for anyone who liked it I support you and your opinion.
Great review! When I first watched the movie I really didn't know what to think. I was confused with why they went with this storyline for their final film (and still am). But I've now seen it twice and have had a lot of time to think and I'm liking the movie more and more everyday. But totally can understand why some people don't like it
I know this film didn’t work for a lot of people but it did for me. I feel this film pays respects to what John Carpenter wanted the Halloween series to be, a focus on different horror stories taking place during Halloween and majority of the film was about that along with healing from trauma/evil before it corrupts you hence Corey. This trilogy went from generational trauma to community trauma to finally healing from that trauma. Halloween Ends may not have Michael Myers at his best however it has the best version of the essence of Evil (how it doesn’t die but changes shape). For me, this a satisfying conclusion to the Laurie vs Michael saga, this is my favorite Jamie Lee Curtis’ performance as the iconic Laurie Strode, the best directed and written in the trilogy, and my 3rd favorite Halloween film. I hope this film will gain its appreciation that it deserves but if you don’t like it you don’t like it, respect. As for the toxic fandom, Scream 5’s motive is already aging like fine wine
*SPOILERS* I liked the scene with the deejay getting his tongue cut. The final fight was okay but I would've liked it more if it had been longer. Most everything else just didn't work for me.
Well said. i agree completely. You dont have to be the least bit intelligent to figure out most people wont like the movie for obvious reasons. Ignoring the crying about the lack of Michael, there arent very many sound criticisms as far as writing goes. Its a simple film that thankfully never went woke. I have it at 7 or 8 out of 10. Far better than that H20 bullshit and definitely superior to Resurrection. For me, this trilogy stands behind the first 2 movies, and ahead of Zombies films. In second place. People just like to bitch about nothing man.
I enjoyed Halloween ends for a stand-alone movie but they misused the hell out of Michael . I loved the acting and it was filmed very well. I was not fond of meeting Cory so late in the game but I did like his character. Micheal did not need a copy cat in my opinion but to each thier own
I liked Drumdrums at first but he lost me with his commentary for Friday The 13th Part 2. Out of nowhere he decides to start talking about various concerts he's been to through the years and encourages his viewers to do the same. Basically that's what he really wanted to talk about, not Friday 2. It was so off-putting to me that I just shut it down and never went back to his channel lol. Congrats to him for getting a place in 13 Fanboy though.
Sorry I’m a new subscriber but this might be the most in depth and most respectful review I’ve ever seen. You backed up the criticism with actual facts and criticism from people. Nobody does that anymore and I’m mind blown and not to be creepy but think I’m in love lol 😂 ❤
Great review…and excellent insights! I like how much you connected to JLC and explored both the on and off screen situation. Even though I have a couple disagreements (I enjoyed a bit more than you) this review was stellar and proves what you mentioned about criticism! Subbed!
@@HauntedHippie here's the thing about Jamie Lee she's been pretty open about not watching any Halloween movies or horror films as you mentioned I'm really shocked Danielle Harris didn't know that honestly
I saw the movie last night, I actually really liked it. I understand why many people don't like this one because they do make weird choices with Corey but I kinda dig it. Also loved the ending.
Against all of the male reviewers who just ranted about this movie. The female reviewers are much more calm and thoughtful about this movie, very interesting.
I actually really enjoyed the movie, I understand the hate for the film, but I was thoroughly entertained, and that's the point of watching a movie in the first place, to be entertained. I am a huge Halloween fan, yes certain aspects of the movie irritates me, but for the most part it's entertaining enough for me to say I liked it for what it was, and I appreciate what they were going for. Of course I am one of the minority that really likes Rob Zombie's Halloween 2, so take that as you like. Loved your review BTW.
Nobody can tell you what kind of halloween fan you are, however, this movie with repeated viewings gets a whole lot better. I can't get this movie out of my head. I was so fucking pissed the first viewing... wtf did you do to me. I was wrong. This movie, with its flaws, my gosh, hits fucking hard. It actually fits perfectly as the third film. Everyone has their opinion, I'm 35 and been a fan since a young kid. I truly appreciate this movie. To each their own.
Thank you for this review on ALL topics. EVERYTHING you said I have been thinking and feeling on each and every single point brought up. You’re the first person on RUclips that I’ve come across talking about these topics that I’m totally in sync with! And absolutely cracking up with comedy you add.👏😂👏😂
I've been waiting for your review! I'm not gonna lie I kind of enjoyed this movie but I definitely understand everyone's reasons for not liking it. I literally had to sit and search for your channel after seeing it last weekend, I was like yo where's the Horror Queen at xD. Thanks for the in depth review!
@@HauntedHippie Better late than never tbh. I really enjoyed your take on everything. I didn't even know about the Red carpet drama.. I literally shocked pikachu faced lmfao.
My biggest complaint about the film was - Savannah, GA felt VERY unlike Haddonfield. I could tell it was the south, unlike the other two in this new trilogy. It just didn't feel like fall.
I went to go see this with my boss a week ago, I was excited because it’s October and it was the first time I been to the theater in YEARS but after watching that movie I left so disappointed it felt like a joke parody film like scary movie, I was baffled what I saw the whole way home.
The movie got problems and issues I don't want Jason following this hell no it's bad enough for Jason goes to hell he got hit with a God damn rocket launcher and still came back and then was went to hell but he didn't need someone helping him kill people for him this s*** they should hold off on the flim and I do a test screening and if it don't work don't release it😎🤔🎃
30:54 additional comment That aspect of the film pissed me off It wasn’t Laurie who broke him out of that loonie bin. It was the doctor And Michael could’ve went anywhere after that Bus crashed, he chose to go back to Haddonfield, and when he did go back to Haddonfield, he didn’t directly go for Laurie, he went for anyone who he could kill, he didn’t care for Laurie, he only came after her because she was there at the moment. All Laurie did was try to warn everyone that he would escape and prepared for it. You can say that he was provoked after Kills but he went into her house and technically, she’s defending herself from a trespasser. That argument that Laurie provoked him is extremely weak. He would’ve repeated his actions in 18 and Kills whether Laurie factored in or not.
Glad I found your channel. It’s the horror channel I didn’t know I needed. I’m a huge horror nerd who’s been to many horror movie filming locations and who really gets into all things horror. This was a great video. But the channel as a whole is a banger!!! 🤟🏼
Allyson is currently carrying CC's child...the doctor who delivers him will say "I remember the baby having the blackest eyes, the devil's eyes"....20 year time jump...new Shape
I respect your take as always even though the movie hit me differently and I loved it. Cheers to both of us being Halloween fans 🎃 no matter what our opinions are. I’ll be interested to see how this movie ages as initial disappointments dissipate.
I think ppl are still gonna hate it because it’s just not Halloween. It’s gonna be very much forgotten just like most of the original sequels have been.
@@Spider-ManHQ they could have called this movie anything and left Michael Myers out and it wouldn't have changed anything. It still would have been a bad movie
I will say, as someone who is not a big fan of Halloween bc I don't like invincible killers, I like the Ends approach to the franchise more than the usual invincible killer going around and killing a bunch of people. The older I get the less I enjoy gratuitous kills and I find myself enjoying character driven stories a lot more. I do agree that they did Alysson dirty though. It was painful to watch her scenes. But Michael to me was never the star of this DGG's franchise. To me this franchise is all about Laurie, her family and the town. The victims are the main characters to me and that's why I like it. It actually shows people's traumas and struggles because of him. Scream is my favourite slasher franchise but my biggest criticism of it is how it doesn't explore that. After every kill it's like nothing happened. The first time I saw someone showing emotion over someone's death was in Scream 5. I think that in order to make Scream darker like Halloween we need emotional baggage instead of more gore.
I’m like in this weird relationship with the Halloween franchise. The original is what inspired me to become a screenwriter. In a way, the entire franchise has been an inspiration. I’m able to find some level of enjoyment with each movie, but I am also able to recognize their faults. I honestly have grown to love Halloween Ends with repeat viewings, even though there are things I wish they had done differently.
* Spoilers below!! * I'm also mixed on this one. I appreciate that they tried something different, but it went too far outside the more grounded Halloween lore. It's like they were trying to remake Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge, where a weakened killer channels his evil through a teenager to try and get his power back.
I don't envy the writers at all. They needed to do something different because we didn't need more of the same from Kills. Wouldn't have been satisfying to rehash ideas from other Halloween movies either. I feel they were forced to fill up the runtime with something besides Michael killing and the final fight
didn't think about that one, it just mainly reminded me of a Halloween version of Star Wars 3: Revenge of the Sith and whatever else they tried to throw together into it until it finally was Halloween Ends at the very end
for the next halloween movie i want danielle harris back as jamie lloyd, danielle's jamie lloyd wasn't killed in halloween 6, oh and i know michael myers was killed in halloween ends but that doesn't matter
As always, a fantastic review from you, I could listen to you for hours :) I personally feel that the new Halloween trilogy has grown from film to film, meaning I've loved every minute of ENDS ;) It was bold and fresh...and I can't appreciate that enough.
The movie is actually decent and i found it to be very enjoyable and interesting, you have to accept what it tries to do (but well its Halloween, and nothing makes sense and never did in those movies anyway) . It definitely is not as bad as many people trying to make it just because the MM is not on screen all the time.
Love the commentary. I kinda like the David Halloween trilogy it gives off the original trilogy vibes. Where Halloween 78 n 81 Where base all around Michael and Season of the Witch apology. I guess I got tried of seeing the same moive over again. But everyone has there opinion right and not ever good moive gets appraisal at frist you know. But all the points you made where valid af and I'm definitely gonna watch more of your videos fs
Drum dums is a pretty big RUclipsr, I’m subscribed to him, but even I feel like sometimes, he can be a bit bias towards the Halloween franchise, a lot of people just feel like criticism towards their favorite movies or franchise, shouldn’t be valid for some reason, but even I can respect others opinions, when people say they hate Scream 5, which is a movie i actually like, I can respect their opinion, and move on, cause it’s really not a big deal at the end of the day.
whats funny to me about scream 5 critics is that they usually think that toxic fanbase is fake and that the killers are too easy to spot. its like they dont see the parallels between the stab fans and what star wars, marvel, dc, insert any media fans do when they dislike an actor or movie. And its like they forgot billy was the easiest ghostface to know before the climax. like they fr sittin here saying that a girls bruise is an easier give away to her killing someone than the guy who dropped black gloves and a mobile phone in front of the girl he just tried to kill in the 90s.... like if you just didnt like it thats cool but i dont like people denying something can exist or people acting like they knew within 5 seconds the plot or twist in a movie.
For me I think I agree if the Alison Corey serial killer relationship was an entirely separate movie of its own it could've been somewhat interesting if done right. Honestly though I was so bored by it and it made no sense to me why Alison would willingly choose to be in such a toxic relationship with someone so boring and obviously very damaged not to mention the kid murdering. I almost quit the movie many times I just wanted to see how it ended. The whole Micheal thing was confusing as well like is he supernatural or not that could've also dramatically change my opinion of the character and how he was portrayed. Also the whole he was living in a sewer for 4 years. I don't even want to think about that except to say he was definitely eating people right? Lastly from Micheals pov what the heck do you think he was thinking was happening? The entire movie was so weird and really didn't make any sense. I watched it after just watching the new Jeepers Creepers movie which was absolute garbage and I would still watch it over this movie tbh. I think you read into it a lot more than I did being a Halloween fan which I appreciate and hence why I wanted to listen to your review. So I really didn't like this movie but as for how they wrapped up the story I was fine with it. Micheal had a good death, unless he is supernatural and somehow he returns lol.
Great video. I heard about them saying people were gonna hate the movie, and I was like, if you already know that, then don't do it. You're a director to entertain people, not piss them off. But maybe I'm just dumb.
If they advertised it as a movie focused on Cory I promise you the movie would have tanked. So they purposefully hid this fact and bait and switched fans - THAT is why fans are pissed! My heart goes out to Exorcist fans because David Gordon Green spoke horribly about the original creator.
Hello, HH! Just discovered you and subscribed! YOU are a BLAST!!! Love your brand, your look, and review. Looking forward to catching up with past episodes. Keep up the STELLAR work!
28:14 I am cool with it, besides what Jamie said in interview you used in 2018 she was 100% sure Michael is after her. Then she learnt he's not. As much new trauma she got after Kills I am sure she was relieved she was not the target
Girl you had me convinced this was a good movie XD I was like MAYBE I WAS WRONGGG! ❤️❤️ but then I remembered my rage and disappointment after we saw it
My biggest issue with this film was none of it made sense with the way Kills ended. All of the momentum was just gone thanks to the time jumps. Michael goes from being the strongest he ever has been to now some weak old man who can barely breath looking for an heir. WHAT? The concept of Corey was a great idea, but it should have been a separate movie. It should have been a movie that comes after Ends. Ends should have been on the same night as 2018 and Kills like they advertised when Kills and Ends were first announced. I guess my biggest issue with Corey is it amounted to nothing. I agree, the butchering of Allyson was terrible and clearly Matichak didn't agree with the direction of her character either considering how half-assed she played her. What was up with the cop boyfriend that is twice her age? Another issue is that pretty much all of the new characters are unlikable jerks. They just exist so they can be killed off without any care in the world that they died. There's also not much in the way of cinemetography. 2018 had that great scene of Michael going on his killing spree with the camera following him from behind, done as if it were one take. Kills had the moment of him killing the firefighters in front of the burning house. This, I guess the 3 seconds of the staircase from the opening scene... Overall, this trilogy is the Thorn trilogy all over again. The first movie was fantastic and one of the best of the franchise. The second was heavily flawed with terrible dialog but there are great moments of suspense and horror to be had. However, the ending leaves off for a sequel. The third does an unnecessary time jump and completely disrespects Laurie's family to help create a piss poor movie. The only difference is the last 20 minutes of Ends saves the film from being worse than Curse.
I enjoyed Ends on my first watch n after watching it again the other night I appreciated it even more.. I get ppl wanted/expected more of Michael(myself included) but besides that I think it is the best shot and best scored since ‘78, Christopher Nelson crushed the mask(again) and the acting was great all around(I enjoyed Corey’s story wayyy more than I thought I would) all that said I do understand why some ppl aren’t happy w the way the film turned out but the ppl saying it’s “trash” or it completely ruined the trilogy I just do not get it.. they subverted expectations and right now alot of the hate is strictly from that imo, I believe over time the displeasure will wear off n the movie will be appreciated for what it is
Haven’t been a fan of the direction of the series with the last two films, so I liked how Halloween Ends was less about Michael killing people, and more about the pure evil that Dr Loomis talked about in the very first film. But oh my god they could’ve executed that idea in a far less frustrating way
Halloween is not my favorite franchise, but the original is my favorite horror movie ever, and one of my top two or three favorite movies ever. I have a lot of nostalgia and love for Laurie Strode, Michael Myers, his mythology, and I find the franchise to be interesting - I appreciate it took some wild leaps at times, crashed and burned where appropriate, and gave some solid sequels along the way. I quite enjoyed Halloween 2018 and found Kills to be pretty mediocre. I had low expectations going into this because of course, but I ended up really liking Ends. After my first viewing, it might even be my favorite Halloween sequel ever, which isn't necessarily saying much. But I looked at this movie not as a closing chapter to a trilogy but more as a movie. I like a decent slow burn, I like there's attention given to characters, the entire first hour of seeing our characters in Haddonfield just living their lives I thought was extremely interesting and not boring at all. And Corey is definitely a controversial addition late into the trilogy, but again, with Michael being a sewer rat, and evil never dying, only changing shape, I feel like Corey was as good a representation of that as we could expect or hope. This was a much more somber movie than the previous ones. I felt real emotion and catharsis watching this movie, because even if Corey was not a character I necessarily needed or wanted in this film, I felt incredibly bad for him, and I was happy to see such a forlorn character gain something through the evil that had been cast on him. They wanted a villain? They turned him into one and they got it. I was extremely happy seeing him kill the bullies and especially his parents. Society is fucked and this was Greene's best interpretation of that in this trilogy. Some people seem to dislike how the first 90 minutes is so different from the last 20 minutes, but I think the last 20 minutes are perfect. Especially the final closing shots of Laurie, Frank, and the house. I didn't see it as two separate bodies, I thought the third act flowed well from the previous two and I dunno. "Don't Fear the Reaper" was just a perfect send off into the credits for me too. As a standalone film, I think this was just so good.
Well, I was going to get off youtube much sooner tonight but this dropped so I had to watch it and it did not disappoint! I loved how fair you were to this movie even though it wasn't your thing. I liked parts of it and other parts not so much. I'm still not sure which parts are which! Haha I'll have to rewatch it before my Peacock subscription has to be renewed because I mainly got it for this movie and I don't want to keep Peacock. If Corey had been Alisson's boyfriend throughout the trilogy I think people would've liked it better and the trilogy would've flowed better. Anyway, this video was so worth waiting for Kylie! Can't wait for the livestreams when I'm not so tired and I can think more clearly!
Laurie was accepting of Halloween in this film because she learned that Myers wasn't targeting her Sartain brought him to her. So she felt free once she learned that truth. Love your energy in this video tho.
Michael wasn’t really in the movie but you can still feel his presence throughout the film. I really liked this one, and left the theater satisfied. I agree with some of the complaints.
Im new to ur channel. And so far im loveing it. Ur amazing and funny and you say it how it is. I really injured Halloween Ends. Looking forward to seeing more of ur videos. All the best from the uk 🇬🇧 x
Jamie Lee Curtis said many times that she and Laurie Strode are the same person. Well, since Laurie Strode was writing her memoir, then Jamie Lee Curtis should have written the script for Halloween Ends, and directed it! I would bet it would have been more entertaining and intelligently written than what we got. It definitely could not have been any worse. The people that enjoyed this film are easily entertained, and I would place them in the same category as I do with fans of the Fast N Furious. If that offends you, then you’ve proven my point. I am a Michael Myers fan, and my hope has always been for an accomplished director and writer to take on the Halloween franchise. A film that not only appeals to its horror base, but is so good that even movie goers who dislike Michael Myers feel compelled to see it. Imagine if Christopher Nolan made a Halloween Michael Myers movie. Look what Spielberg did with Poltergeist! I want to see someone take on this franchise as if they are trying to win an academy award. Someone that will take it seriously and not take their audience for granted. This trilogy and many of its predecessors are not the best we can do. I believe that it is the best that David Gordon Green and some writers with little to no experience could do. Comparing this movie to previous Halloween films is not setting the bar very high. I have a higher standard and love it when a horror film truly delivers like a Silence Of The Lambs or Hereditary. When you have a majority of your fan base disappointed and upset, you’re doing something wrong and have failed. Laurie Strode is NOT the franchise and does NOT make Halloween what it is. Would you watch a Laurie Strode spin-off movie? That’s rhetorical! Don’t answer that! That’s practically what Halloween Ends was anyway. It’s Michael Myers movie, and he deserves better.
I love Laurie's growth in this movie. We saw in 2018 and Kills that she basically destroyed her own life and her daughter's childhood by chasing this idea that Michael was after her, only to realize that he is indifferent to her and then lose half the town + her daughter. It makes sense to me that she would then try to change, after reaching all those resolutions. She would work on herself to be the best she can be for Allyson. Her development could have gone either way, but I found this the most interesting direction! Also - there was a comment on Reddit that I read that really helped contextualize this movie for me. They discussed how Kills is the true climax of the trilogy, and Michael essentially won. This movie is more like an epilogue showing what he has done after winning - essentially retiring, only to come out one more time. It's also why we focused on a new character's turn to the dark side, because it serves as an epilogue while also showing that "evil never dies, it changes shape." Admittedly, I think the end of Corey's arc was mishandled - he probably should have just disappeared in the end. Overall, I enjoy the movie, but oddly find it stronger when it focuses on the Corey stuff (even though that is not what one would expect in a Halloween film, so it makes total sense to be bored). That was a pretty complete story, only to be abruptly cut off to then tack on the ending between Laurie and Michael. I don't know, it's certainly an uneven and imperfect film, but I have a feeling everyone involved knew that it would be, but they took the risk anyway. I say all this as a lifelong fan of this franchise (so, more than 20 years now, ahem) - I'm glad we got something like this, because it tackles some really interesting themes imo. It also keeps things unpredictable. And of course, I'm glad we got a definitive ending to the Laurie/Michael story and to Michael himself, after Resurrection took that post-H20.
It kind of reminded me of the end of the Sopranos. It was still a near perfect series and the ending was good in it’s own rite. I don’t know if Doug Oliver coined it but like he said; “always leave them guessing”.
I love the way you explained it... makes 100% sense why the trilogy ended the way it did. We have been at it with this film for more than several decades... for all of us true fans this was the end of a movie we grew up watching as kids, good or bad we enjoyed it.
Just found your channel; I'm a hound for horror and mystery myself; subscribed immediately. 😀 Agree with you on Ends. Really liked the 2018 film; not so much the two sequels. Good thing the 2018 film works as a conclusion to Carpenter's original in itself.
Oh hello there Haunted Hippie👋🏻great review! I’ve just recently discovered your channel. Halloween Ends might be not the movie we all wanted, but… the Carpenter (and co) score is absolutely fantastic. Lol that Dobra Hills comment cracked me up big time 😂😂😂
Great review 👌I really enjoyed Halloween Ends ! I totally understand why a lot of fans don’t like it. I like the fact it was so different, It just didn’t have any suspense & wasn’t particularly scary.
For Someone Such As Myself Who Wasn't A HUGE Fan In The Slightest Of Halloween Kills, I LOVED That This Movie Decided To Take Another Step Further Into A Different Direction Better Than Kills. All Three Of These Blumhouse Halloween Films Took A Lot Of Fans By All Sorts Of Variety Of Surprises Whether Good, Bad Or Mid. For Me, Halloween Ends Was Satisfying Enough For Me To Buy The Idea That There Was Gonna Be The End For Michael Myers One Way Or The Other. This Movie Wasn't Perfect Or Flawless By Any Means But It At Least Satisfied My Taste. Can't Speak For Everyone Else About This Film, But I Definitely Liked Ends A Lot Better Than Halloween Kills.
I love how Halloween 1978 ended with the rooms dark and Michael breathing, in Halloween Ends the rooms are full of light and no breathing. Also, Michael had to be in very poor health living in a sewer for 4 years, feeding on rats or humans, probably caught covid a few times, so it kinda makes sense he wouldn't be as unstoppable.
Glad to see i wasnt the only one who thought Michael might have been feeding on the missing Haddonfield residents. I havent seen many people mentioning it
fully agree , she was strong and still showed emotions and was unhinged many times, which in that situation it's very understandable....this is what Hollywood tends to miss whenever they try to do a female heroine
*SPOILER WARNING. Don’t read this comment if you haven’t seen the movie yet.*
After being disappointed by both Halloween 2018 and Halloween Kills last year, I had little faith in this movie being any different and decided to wait for a streaming release before seeing it.
Gonna go ahead and pin this it was truly a great read
Movies now have a problem
Take a loved character from the past
Cut their nuts off
Make them dumb
Get rid
Did you really want another rehash of 2018 and Kills? I think the writers shot themselves in the foot by already delivering the final fight in 2018 and then deciding to stretch the premise into a trilogy. There wasn't much story left to milk out another movie.
Bro just wrote a full on essay.
I dont see how they could ever have made another killer other than Michael at all digestible to the fans
@@TRal55 They really couldn’t, but at least if they’d taken out the first bf and replaced him with Corey, we’d at least have *some* history/connection.
Yeah maybe that would of worked.
Not everything needs multiple movies of setup. The MCU has ruined you
Or you know they could’ve just not killed Cameron and done this plot with him lol
The director saying that people are going to hate the movie tells you everything you need to know. A random teen love story masquerading as not only a Halloween movie, but supposedly the last ever Halloween movie. All the decision makers involved have convinced themselves this would be a good idea 😂
You're one of the only channels ive seen that has actual reasonable commentary on all this, without weird internet reactionary shit. props!

In the 80s, the band kids weren't the bullies, they were the bullied.
This movie is a mess but on the bright side it gave us another 40 minute Haunted Hippie video! 🖤🔪
Awwww shucks
The fact he still tweaking the ending of film a month before the movie came out tells you all that you need to know.
Haunted Hippie never disappoints. What an icon.
Same. I was disappointed with this one. Michael getting rolled for his mask...the thought of walking out crossed my mind.
that's my issue, if they did that with Laurie it would of made more sense if she took on the "the shape" aka Michael Myers mantle because it's established that she's been on the verge of sapping in the last two films
Aw thank you for the kind words 🥹🖤
I was a first time viewer. I loved how you handled the material. I subscribed.
welcome! glad to hear it
I really liked Corey's arc and actor but agree that it shouldn't have been the last installment for this particular story, such an odd Last Jedi level course correction.
Cory should’ve at least been introduced in Halloween Kills, it seems like too much of a ploy to have a brand new character take over the last installment all for him to just kill himself off before Michael does. So it’s like it didn’t even matter in the end
@@Jprager I woulda let Corey have his own movie as like a anthology passing of the torch without Michael.
@@mega6836 I would think so too, but I feel he would’ve ended up getting retconned in later installments if that be the case. Just like what happened to Jaimie Loyd, and her character being wasted in the end

But totally can understand why some people don't like it
Same how I was, I seen it 5 times
Kylie wonderful job on the video, hope yall are all having a good day
The way you can tell this movie was not good at all is that there was only four people in my theater LMAO
"Corey ends up in Michael's hole" LOL
*SPOILERS*
I liked the scene with the deejay getting his tongue cut.
The final fight was okay but I would've liked it more if it had been longer.
Most everything else just didn't work for me.
That’s a fresh perspective actually that might help me on a rewatch
Well said.
i agree completely.
Agree, I like Halloween ends, It's not that bad, Scream 5 was good too, I gave it 4 stars on Google reviews
Nah
Great review and recap.
This wasn't the movie I wanted but it kept me engaged and I left the theatre somewhat satisfied.
Great video, like the way it was broken up in stages really made it stand out from most of the reviews I've watched ( abandoned half way through )
I enjoyed Halloween ends for a stand-alone movie but they misused the hell out of Michael . I loved the acting and it was filmed very well. I was not fond of meeting Cory so late in the game but I did like his character. Micheal did not need a copy cat in my opinion but to each thier own
All good points 🤷🏽♀️

because they do make weird choices with Corey but I kinda dig it.

The movie got problems and issues I don't want Jason following this hell no it's bad enough for Jason goes to hell he got hit with a God damn rocket launcher and still came back and then was went to hell but he didn't need someone helping him kill people for him this s*** they should hold off on the flim and I do a test screening and if it don't work don't release it😎🤔🎃
First time checking out your channel & content. Good stuff. Def Going to check out some more of your previous reviews and rants..lol.

That aspect of the film pissed me off
It wasn’t Laurie who broke him out of that loonie bin. It was the doctor
And Michael could’ve went anywhere after that Bus crashed, he chose to go back to Haddonfield, and when he did go back to Haddonfield, he didn’t directly go for Laurie, he went for anyone who he could kill, he didn’t care for Laurie, he only came after her because she was there at the moment.
Welcome welcome!
Halloween ends was horrible they made micheal myers a punk and weak🧡🖤🧡🖤🧡🖤🧡🖤🧡🖤🎃🗡
Allyson is currently carrying CC's child...the doctor who delivers him will say "I remember the baby having the blackest eyes, the devil's eyes"....20 year time jump...new Shape
@@theashwoodfaerie i don't love it - just a thought...I'm sure they can, and will, come up with something worse...maybe Michael in space
I really enjoyed this review, your passion shines through!
I respect your take as always even though the movie hit me differently and I loved it. Cheers to both of us being Halloween fans 🎃 no matter what our opinions are. I’ll be interested to see how this movie ages as initial disappointments dissipate.
I think it’s gonna have a decent sized cult following!
Did we all watch the same movie as you??? Obviously not
Holy crsp was that a steaming pile
I think ppl are still gonna hate it because it’s just not Halloween. It’s gonna be very much forgotten just like most of the original sequels have been.
@@Spider-ManHQ they could have called this movie anything and left Michael Myers out and it wouldn't have changed anything. It still would have been a bad movie
I agree that the best kill was the blowtorch kill! If not the best, it was definitely my favorite
i really like these long reviews
* Spoilers below!! *
I'm also mixed on this one. I appreciate that they tried something different, but it went too far outside the more grounded Halloween lore. It's like they were trying to remake Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge, where a weakened killer channels his evil through a teenager to try and get his power back.
Whoa didn’t even see that parallel
I don't envy the writers at all. They needed to do something different because we didn't need more of the same from Kills. Wouldn't have been satisfying to rehash ideas from other Halloween movies either. I feel they were forced to fill up the runtime with something besides Michael killing and the final fight
didn't think about that one, it just mainly reminded me of a Halloween version of Star Wars 3: Revenge of the Sith and whatever else they tried to throw together into it until it finally was Halloween Ends at the very end
What an amazing video. Thank you, love your channel
for the next halloween movie i want danielle harris back as jamie lloyd, danielle's jamie lloyd wasn't killed in halloween 6, oh and i know michael myers was killed in halloween ends but that doesn't matter
As always, a fantastic review from you, I could listen to you for hours :) I personally feel that the new Halloween trilogy has grown from film to film, meaning I've loved every minute of ENDS ;) It was bold and fresh...and I can't appreciate that enough.
i loved halloween ends, just didn’t like how they killed off cory and how weak they made micheal
Great job on this!!

@@HauntedHippie killer I will check it out and I'll do a review on it stay horror 🤘
The movie is actually decent and i found it to be very enjoyable and interesting, you have to accept what it tries to do (but well its Halloween, and nothing makes sense and never did in those movies anyway) . It definitely is not as bad as many people trying to make it just because the MM is not on screen all the time.
that's not why I said it was bad though lol
Yea like who really cares that much 😭 like they wanna be right so bad they forgot it’s just an opinion
@@HauntedHippie exactly!! I agree with you!!
whats funny to me about scream 5 critics is that they usually think that toxic fanbase is fake and that the killers are too easy to spot. its like they dont see the parallels between the stab fans and what star wars, marvel, dc, insert any media fans do when they dislike an actor or movie.
@@LionWithAGun that’s true you actually bring up good points 💯
I’m sorry to anyone who did like this movie. But I am one of the seemingly many that did NOT 👎🏻
Me either I despise it .
Very logical and respectful take! Subscribed!
Thank you, welcome!
28:14 I am cool with it, besides what Jamie said in interview you used in 2018 she was 100% sure Michael is after her.
Then she learnt he's not.
As much new trauma she got after Kills I am sure she was relieved she was not the target
What are some of the best halloween fan films?
I get ppl wanted/expected more of Michael(myself included) but besides that I think it is the best shot and best scored since ‘78, Christopher Nelson crushed the mask(again) and the acting was great all around(I enjoyed Corey’s story wayyy more than I thought I would) all that said I do understand why some ppl aren’t happy w the way the film turned out but the ppl saying it’s “trash” or it completely ruined the trilogy I just do not get it.. they subverted expectations and right now alot of the hate is strictly from that imo, I believe over time the displeasure will wear off n the movie will be appreciated for what it is
Nice content I appreciate your commentary on this film.
Haven’t been a fan of the direction of the series with the last two films, so I liked how Halloween Ends was less about Michael killing people, and more about the pure evil that Dr Loomis talked about in the very first film. But oh my god they could’ve executed that idea in a far less frustrating way
You're right, now I'm kind of wishing they had mentioned Dr. Loomis at all
Halloween is not my favorite franchise, but the original is my favorite horror movie ever, and one of my top two or three favorite movies ever.
Before this trilogy, JLC seemed to hate Halloween.
Now she knows “this will be my legacy. Fuck it, gimme the money.”
Aw I appreciate it I’m so glad you loved the video!
Laurie was accepting of Halloween in this film because she learned that Myers wasn't targeting her Sartain brought him to her. So she felt free once she learned that truth. Love your energy in this video tho.
Mmmm if someone killed my high school friends, half the towns people, my son in law, my DAUGHTER......feeling free don't exactly come to mind ya know
Michael wasn’t really in the movie but you can still feel his presence throughout the film. I really liked this one, and left the theater satisfied. I agree with some of the complaints.
I laughed when you came for Drumdums, but his channel is pretty good especially for Halloween content.
Yea i was like oh wow hahaha him an cody leach are the ones i watch for horror reviews lol
Hope it’s obvious it wasn’t that serious, just settle down on Twitter lmfaooo
facts tho was a lowkey diss lol
Halloween a franchise that started out with a bang but went out with a whimper.
At this point, I find Mike Myers more scary than Michael Myers.
Im new to ur channel. And so far im loveing it. Ur amazing and funny and you say it how it is. I really injured Halloween Ends. Looking forward to seeing more of ur videos. All the best from the uk 🇬🇧 x
Legit read my entire mind on the film wth 😱
So Laurie stops being paranoid when Michael is still out and killed her daughter this is the dumbest character turn in film history
@@MariaVillagran I can at least give it Jamie Lee Curtis credit and the movie makers credit for respecting Laurie Strode

Agree with you on Ends. Really liked the 2018 film; not so much the two sequels. Good thing the 2018 film works as a conclusion to Carpenter's original in itself.
Welcome! That's true, kills and ends can be ignored if you feel like it
Oh hello there Haunted Hippie👋🏻great review!
I agree with you, It was a decent film
That's nice. You're comment had me smiling the whole time. ☺️
Hahaha fair
Glad to see i wasnt the only one who thought Michael might have been feeding on the missing Haddonfield residents. I havent seen many people mentioning it
I thought the crazy bum living outside Michael’s tunnel was going to the McDonald’s down the block to get him food every now and then 😂
Michael Myers was still an unstoppable monster and nothing is more irritating than losers making excuses for bad writing
Oh but their was breathing
One of the best final girls that never gets credit is Laurie Cardille from Day of the Dead 1985. Incredible performance and characterization.
fully agree , she was strong and still showed emotions and was unhinged many times, which in that situation it's very understandable....this is what Hollywood tends to miss whenever they try to do a female heroine
