I understand why it's pissing some people of,
I also like when movie takes it time.
But let's be serious here, we cannot expect real life progressions of things in what at the end is a slasher movie.
If someone needs real life logic and progressions then there is The Wire :)

The chemistry between Allyson and Corey was so bad that early on I thought Allyson and Laurie was purposely bewitching him towards his death because they sensed his evil. Then I thought that the chemistry was so bad that they were pulling a "Fight Club" where Corey was never really interacting with Laurie and Allyson, but just fantasizing about it. Part of me wanted to think that Corey was never interacting with Michael as well and it was all metaphor about becoming evil. Imagine if all the scenes with Michael didn't happen because he's a ghost in someone's memory. In the end, they hurt Allyson's character the most with this entry. I yelled at every decision she made. Like dating that cop and Corey.

I get it Michael is older and got tore up from Halloween kills but I felt like they intentionally meant to give him the back-seat in his own ending movie. It was nostalgic but disappointing because he is the bogeyman afterall.

I have a theory that Jeremy was trying to kill Corey at the beginning of the movie. It just backfired on him. He shared a lot of qualities that Michael had before he killed his sister (according to the 1979 novel of Halloween 1978). Wetting the bed, nightmares and hearing voices etc. there was also his sudden change in demeanor towards Corey. Being nice one minute and then saying he was pretending to be nice to his “ugly assed babysitter”.

The best scene in Ends for me was when Corey was in his scarecrow mask and was anticipating or watching as Michael was about to emerge behind the doctor's assistant... the camera stays on him watching through the glass door.. suddenly not wanting to get in with urgency, she screams, and it cuts back and Michael emerges behind her and looks as intimidating as ever... he looks big in that shot... and then he obviously kills the girl, the music is also really good during that scene...

Agree with that. Even though I left the theatre dissapointed - I liked the overall direction they were going. But a lot of it didn't make sense to me or it was poorly executed. This feels like a more character driven concept than Kills but the "character development" feels weird and inconsistent. Laurie and Allyson moving on after 4 years even though Laurie was dealing with trauma for 40? And Michael was locked up since 1978, now he's out for 4 years and they decided to be happy? That just feels unrealistic und unbelievable. Also inconsistent to the first 2 movies. Allyson falls in love with a guy after 2 days and... so on and so on.
So I think I will appreciate the movie more over time but I get upset about people telling me that I "didn't get what they were trying to do". I get it, peepz. But in my opinion - it didn't work.

@@ivictorrattlehead You could interpret "the more he kills, the more he transcends," as being commentary on Michael's legacy. Like, the more people he affects(and infects) the more he transcends into a mythological and legendary figure in the collective conscience of Haddonfield. The legacy of his evil effectively becomes more powerful and enduring than the man himself. I think this movie was trying to demystify Michael as the personification of evil, hence some of the lines referring to him as "just a man in a Halloween mask," and Laurie saying she used to think he was the boogeyman, before killing him.

She slit Michael’s throat and knows he’s going to die, but now she has nothing to live for. B) throughly H18 and Kills she says over and over that maybe the only way for him to die is if she dies with him. For me her actions make sense. And I think that’s why Allyson says what she says, that she’s not letting that happen to her grandmother. And why Laurie gets that spark back once she sees Allyson again.

Halloween 2018 and Halloween kills was based on the same night... So Michael gets shot, gets his fingers blowed off, it's beaten by mob, gets stabbed, nobody can kill him but in this new movie lori overpowered him like nothing basically. This movie feels like a horror movie that's been written and they just decided to throw Michael Myers in the mix and change the character's names to the Halloween franchise. May have not been a bad movie if it wasn't a Halloween movie but for me this is the one of the worst Halloweens. Don't get me started on the Michael Myers and Corey (Batman and Robin sidekick kind of thing).

*The worst thing about Halloween Ends is that they didn’t give Nick Castle the correct cameo!! Am I the only one who thinks DGG n Co. wasted a golden opportunity w NC’s appearance in Ends when they gave him that lil cameo at the party instead of the homeless guy who literally says “Go get me that mask, I’M MICHAEL MYERS!!” These guys never miss a chance to capitalize on call backs/Easter eggs but somehow that don’t jump at that?? Imo that would have been such a great way to show NC some love at the same time as being meta af n giving us die hards a nice chuckle at the same time.. big missed opportunity man*

I think your analysis is spot-on! And for me, those ten things you just listed definitely outweighed the things I liked about the movie. But, I think it’s awesome you were able to both like the movie yet still be so direct about the things you didn’t like. And I just wanted to point out something out real quick that actually corroborates a few of your points: I think the reason why Allyson had this 50-something year old ex-boyfriend is because he was “Officer Mulaney”, which means he either (a) is one of the kids from that 1978 flashback sequence in Halloween Kills, or (b) is one of their descendants. And I think this perfectly illustrates my frustration with this movie. It just seems like we got all these breadcrumbs in the first two movies that were building to something. And when we got to the final movie they were either (a) completely abandoned, or (b) appeared to be put together in such a way that they appeared to not actually be the original plan. It was as if they were put together retroactively in order to provide closure, but what we got never seemed to feel like the original plan. And what ultimately resulted just created more questions than answers.

Ok I completely understand your point on how Laurie was just giving up when Micheal severs his own fuckin hand to snatch Laurie up lol but the way I feel like best makes sense to me is that she lost her daughter in Kills, and the fact that in kills she kept spreading this idea that she had to die in order for Micheal to die but not only that when Allyson walked in and thought she killed Corey in cold blood I feel like she didn't know Allyson would come back and thought she had lost her granddaughter in that moment also so she just gave into her thought that she needed to die so Micheal would finally die and end this cat and mouse game between them and to stop him from "killing again" (in Loomis voice from Halloween Kills. That's just how I felt made the most sense to me from that scene.

    2. Michael looking like a hunchback

The reason Michael Myers kept a low profile and was presented as week and feeble was because they were trying to make viewers lose their fascination with the character and perhaps lose interest so it would be easier to say goodbye to his character in the end. It worked for me. You're right, the storytelling was hurried and felt inadequate. Oh well, it doesn't matter anymore, because Halloween ended, and they made their millions and we're left thinking WTF happened? But it was a good watch. One time watch for me.

I feel like the only reason Laurie was just going to let Michael kill her was because she believed that Allison was truly done with her. Allison thought Laurie killed Corey. So Laurie kinda had nothing left to live for and you just kinda can’t come back from murdering your granddaughter’s boyfriend just because you “think” he’s evil.

I believe that Michael was able to invade and transfer his evil into Corey on account of a few reasons even though they as you put it "didn't explain" it very well. Lol So due to how many years have passed and to the extent of how weak and dying they made Michael seem, I think it could have been somehow discovered or unlocked because Michael was on the verge of dying and possibly knew he needed help killing more people to regain strength? Or how Corey over those three years just went through all of the aftermath from accidentally killing Jeremy but was being made to feel like it wasn't by an entire town. So therefore allowing the same darkness Michael had to build up overtime inside of him as well. Then when it came down to actually meeting Michael in the sewer, I don't think even Michael was aware that he could even do that to Corey until they locked eyes. Seeing the same darkness Michael's had consuming him.
However, I enjoyed this movie to the same extent that you noted in this review. I almost agree with every portion of this movie that you disliked also. But I do want to say the junkyard scene where Corey( with the Michael Myers mask) killing those high school kids could have done a lot better. All those two girls had to do was move next to other cars when he was chasing them with a truck opposed to climbing a barbed wired fence. Especially when the girl wrapped in the fence essentially was the reason the other kids were killed by just sitting there and basically baiting them all. The torch to the jock's face was pretty awesome though.

When corey says " i just killed somone" its clearly supposed to make the audience think hes adnitting to killing the homeless guy , the next shot shows them in the house of the kid from the start that died . It almost give the viewer hope that he feels some kind of remorse for killing the homeless guy and is admitting to it taking him off the dark path hes on when in fact hes not .... the " youre just a man in a halloween mask " quote is as hes wrestling michael and overpowering him , hes probably been told every urban legend of the guy for years and is insinuating hes nothing more than a man and not what these stories have made him out to be . I dont see how either of these two instances of dialogue are unnecessary

  • @TheShapeKills22

When Corey said to Allyson that he killed someone he was referring to Jeremy.
Also, I think the fight scene was great, short, brutal and vicious. It actually felt like a final fight. It was very well choreographed and Jamie Lee Curtis, a 63 y/o woman did most of her stunt work (that's impressive, I'm so proud of her) it was far better than the fight in H20 were she ran away most of the time and Michael just damaged her once (also that scene in H20 when Laurie kicked Michael in the balls he looked very goofy)
I think Laurie wanted revenge, but also, when she said "DO IT" was because she knowed at that moment that she had nothing else to lose.
Michael chocked her hard (the make up in JLC's neck proves it)
Anyways, Michael was actually dominating the whole thing during his fight with Laurie until she tried to take off his mask, she took advantage of that and then she killed him. The fight was epic, I loved it.
Corey was somehow alike '78 Michael after their first encounter. He changed, that's pretty obvious. Corey was 24 during the events of ENDS and Michael was 21 in 1978. Corey even survived in one of the alternate endings were Allyson shots him and then he falls through the window (similar to the ending of Halloween 1978) just for next to disappeared into the darkness of the night)
Michael is part supernatural and part human (John Carpenter said that)
He was weak, yes, but still strong enough to lift nurse Deb up with one hand and then killed her, also after all the damage that he got in 'Halloween Kills' and four years living like that and without the Smith's Grove sanatorium cares, he was still ALIVE, he's more than a human just because of that.
I also think that Corey just stealed Michael's mask just because he doesn't wanted him dead at that point (that's actually the only scene that I don't like from the movie)
ENDS gave Laurie Strode the ENDING she DESERVED as the ultimate final girl that she is. I love Laurie so much, she means a lot to me. I'm happy that they respected her unlike 'Halloween Resurrection '
I LOVE 'Halloween Ends' a lot, Jamie Lee's performance blows me away everytime and Rohan Campbell did such a great job playing Corey (such a good actor) and I love Andi Matichak as well.
The whole procession scene is very powerful and emotional. Seeing all the people who lost their beloved ones because of Michael Myers (like Sondra and Julian for example) and then Laurie destroying Michael once and for all in front of everyone was very powerful and then the final scene with Laurie and Hawkins at the November 1st morning giving them a hopeful ending is beautiful. ❤
I completely understand why some fans doesn't liked the movie, and I absolutely respect that, but, I loved it.
I love the beautiful Cinematography, the AWESOME score soundtrack by John Carpenter, the great autumn atmosphere, the dark vibe of the movie, Michael's mask, the callbacks, the opening scene, Junk Yard scene, Willie the Kid's death and I absolutely LOVED Corey Cunningham, even if some fans hate him, they can't deny Rohan's great acting skills, and in my opinion, he has an actual development unlike various characters from the franchise.
I hope time gives it its deserved good place, but I think ENDS will always be a divisive movie, and that's OK, I respect people who doesn't like it and I'm happy because every day I know more and more people who love Halloween Ends.
Fun fact: Michael had more screentime in ENDS than in the OG from 1978.
Sorry if my english is not that good, I speak Spanish.
    Greetings from Mexico, Mike!

Honestly, if they really didn’t want to use Michael but his presence. Why not make him live in the Sewer, eating people to survive. Then once Cory get the transfer of evil, he should’ve slowly died. So the transformation of Corey can be seen as Michael coming out of Corey as a elm street 2 kinda thing. That way you can have a young/ strong Michael “Corey” go up against Laurie. Corey has reason to go after Laurie because he is the boyfriend, while Michael is inside his soul as the pure evil, exaggerating Corey’s abilities and strength. To me that sounds more cerebral and tightly written
