- Making a backdrop with expanding gap filler. A light weight foam with plenty of uses! It could be a 'Bat Cave" or a dramatic back ground for photography, it's all up to your imagination!

I am absolutely doing this to the back of my Dungeon Master's Screen. Normally I use XPS and a heat gun, then smooth over any seams with plaster of paris to get simulated rock texture but this looks like a lot more fun!
I love getting recommended new Maker channels and getting to learn all their tricks and techniques.
Glad you like it... it is pretty effective! Cheers!
Thank you! This is the perfect technique I was looking for to make a natural looking faux rock wall around an indoor pond.
You are very welcome and I'm glad to have helped:)
Me too.. roughly how many cans of expanding foam would be required? Like how far does a can go?
Could you spray this on drywall?
This is a great tutorial, best wall I've seen so far.... and has an added bonus ! I get to use my hunting knife, and when my wife comes out to ask what the hell I think I'm doing I can say I have to use it and show her this video!
Ha, glad you liked it and don't let your wife give you too hard a time!
I've had some parts that were more yellow and less white and very "airy" like rice crispy cereal. It wasn't as compact and thick "foam" like in other spots... did it not cure enough? Or do you have to keep shaking the can as you go?
Yeah, it's a pretty inconsistent product as far as texture goes. It's original purpose is for void fill so it's going to have lots of different densities throughout. It certainly wouldn't hurt to frequently shake as you use it but the end result may not vary that much.
Your video gave me a wonderful idea for my 2024 haunt! Thanks!

You're welcome and good luck!
Sir do that foam work on walls(like with no cardboard background)?
Thanks for putting this out there! Everyone has their own approach to doing things, and this is great. I ended up molding foam, which works great for me.
Glad it helped!
Dundee! with that knife, mate. Awesome video. Thanks
Ha, yeah the Aussie version of Rambo! Cheers.
@@RETROROCKETMAN HA!HA! INDEED!
I like to use it to fill in Bern strogoam held to together with zsvrewer Sticks
I found using that foam to glue styrofoam to the wall and then carving that to be the better method.
amazing, if you don't mind me asking what color blends did you used for the rock like foam??
Just a flat grey primer lightly sprayed over a white undercoat.
Simply brilliant, mate.
Thank you!
Just wow!
Thankyou, glad you like it.
Does the foam stick to the cardboard once it dries? Or did you pull the cardboard backing off? Very cool.
Yeah, it's a very sticky product and also keeping the cardboard backing helps with the strength and rigidity overall.
@@RETROROCKETMAN Thanks. Gonna attempt to make a full size wall. Wish me luck.
@@danschmidt3215 I certainly do wish you luck... I practically used an entire can just on my small piece! Yours sounds like it's gonna be epic!! Cheers:)
Thank you so much I’m literally making a real man CAVE this will simplify things
That is a cool knife
Yeah, pretty heavy too! Not the most practical though for that use but all just a bit of fun!
Great video
Cheers!
Now this is a knife
The true Wolf Creek knife
Hey i hope you still get this ..how many can aprox do you think i would beed to do a wall 8ft x 12ft..lol just a guess
Oh Gee that's a hard one... for that kind of coverage all I can say is that it'd be quite a few. I guess the best way would be to use one can and measure the area then divide it into the required area to give you the number of cans needed.
My exact question want to do my bathroom wall🤔
Great project, well done. What color is this spray?
Thanks, I just used a flat grey primer to get that 'granite' look. Lightly sprayed for lighter tones or more intensive coating to get a deeper finish.
Like will it stick to the wall if we apply directly
Yeah it will stick but it may sag to some degree due to being applied to a vertical surface. I would do a small test first to make sure.
So keep the cardboard backing on. Is that going to mess the wall up over time ?this looks awesome
It all depends on what your usage will be. For a simple free standing backdrop absolutely but if you want to actually attach it to a wall on a larger scale you might want to do it on something like plywood and screw it to your wall. This can then be more easily removed if need be.
How many cans did you use for this project? Its awesome thanks for the video!
If my memory serves me right it was nearly two cans and I did transplant off cuts as well:)
@@RETROROCKETMAN thank you so much!! Amazing idea!
Why use liquid foam instead of carving EPS sheets. Check my channel for my foam rockwalls
Dude! OMG why are you doing this to meeeeee? Now I have to build a Batcave for my hand made Batsuits, and I have to build an armory to display with Batarangs and grapnel guns. I am now traumatized.
He, he. Big things start from humble beginings! Cheers.
That's not a knife ........ this is a knife 😂😂😂
You call that a knife? Now this is a knife.
Ha, ha... classic!
What kind of paint, i can used?
I used water based acrylic paint, I would expect that any brand would be fine.
That's not a Knife this is a Knife.
