Thanks for these! Videos are great, it is easier to picture how the process works after seeing it. One suggestion - maybe post links to some of the tools / products you use. Beautiful airplane, it's good motivation for me to get back out in the shop and work on my -8!
@@stusaircraftfactory6592 They were made for the airfoil gear, but admittedly, they don't fit as nicely as yours. I'll post a pic. I mounted them a little differently, but used the two inspection cover screws similar to what you did.
@@stusaircraftfactory6592 Here is how they fit out of the box. I did some more work before painting and finishing, but for some reason, can't find any pics. postimg.cc/gallery/2esx9wmiy/ Like I said, I think yours really came out with a great nice fit!
Where are you getting the “click nuts” the bonded in nut plates from? Aircraft spruce seems to have them but what would you recommend on purchasing as a good “start amount” thanks!
Yup. There are about 2 layers of alum and steel weldment for gear tower. Behind that there nothing to hit as long as brake lines and wires are clear. As far as water I don't fuss with my RV8. Its riveted alum so water can get in several places. No big issue if hole is on side. If you want you can put bit sealant on screw or use clear edging tape around fairing - go fast tape as the Reno Air Race guys call it.
Great question. Mine right now has stock fibreglass around front part of wing (fuel tank) and flat aluminum for remainder with a rubber seal. I’m planning on changing to Sam James full fibreglass wing fairings

One of the few saved videos in my collection of must have videos. Well done Stu!!!
My congrats. Perfect.
Very helpful video. Haven't started any glass work on my RV-7 yet but videos like this are encouraging!
Cool. Especially on RV7 those fairings move so make sure you have a gap
Very good job ! It took so much time to me to do these gear fairings...
Excelent. Just at that stage. Very helpful. Thanks
Thanks Stu!!
Great Video! As usual...
Nice write up. Thanks for taking the time. I’m just about to start the fiberglass work on my 7A.
The 7A will move more than the 8 so create a gap. Especially since you’ll have fibreglass gear leg fairings. I had 2 RV7As cool airplane

Yeah I keep meaning to do that - they deserve the recognition and references would be nice
Thanks for providing this. I also have Grove airfoil gear, but purchased my intersection fairings from Fairings-etc. Nice job making your own.
You might find the fairing doesn’t fit well. Aerofoil gear mounts are bigger. I had same ones but they required mods.

Sweet thanks for reply!
Mine must have been for standard gear as I removed about half the fairing before giving up and rolling my own
very nice, lots of work though:-)
Love the videos, they're very useful. What type of primer do you use?
Simple rattle can self etching primer.

TheFlightShop.com. I order from them all the time
Nice!! Is it possible to use one of the existing screw holes in the gear tower? Thanks
For sure. But getting inside gear tower to mount nutplate or nursert will be frustrating
@@stusaircraftfactory6592 Thanks
Stu, why didn’t you paint this plane?
Plan was to all along. Keep watching the vids. I typically fly them a few hours before paint
Do you know what was behind that skin you drilled and tapped into? What about water penetration into that joint?

What about the wing-fuselage intersection itself? Going all the way along the wing root? Have you ever tried something similar for that? Just curious.

Did you gain any speed?
Intersection fairings not really. Main point it to provide pleasant transition and in case of fibreglass gear leg fairings to hold them in place
What is the brand of that expanding foam?
Lepage brand. Just don’t use the yellow stuff
