Been using a K1 on a ‘18 Hobie Outback with the twist and stow rudder mount. I’ve been impressed with it so far. Battery life of the Bixpy battery isn’t given enough credit. I don’t run full speed everywhere, but I’ve still yet to kill it while out on the water… and I’ve been fishing on some long trips around Galveston area.
I have the J-2. And love it. Never used up the battery. I can go 3 days. I spend about 7 hours a day but only use the motor to get from place to place. Otherwise use the Hobie pedal drive. But at 71, it's great to be able to cruise back without effort!
I like them. Had one in my cart forever but ultimately decided on a 55lb TM mounted in my pedal drive hole. Added auto boat to it so I had anchor lock. Still a few hundred less than the Bixpy. But I’m still a fan of the system. I like the rudder mount version.
Overpriced. Great concept, but there are no brushless motors or battery/inverter that would come close to that expensive...and they are expensive. 800bucks would get you twice the range and power. What a joke.
@TexasPapa13 exactly, a 1000 watt 100lb thrust salt water trolling motor is ten times better. And for controls, just detach the head and extend the wires, also with steering obviously. It's easy.
I’ve had the K1 for a year now. I use on my Hobie Outback with the adapter to fit into where the pedals go. I didn’t want to go through the transom mounting. It’s very portable and easy to swap with the pedals while out on the water. I like it and it’s been a good solution for me. Best speed I have gotten on a fully loaded Outback is 4mph.
Priced out the K1/ Battery, bixby mount, Bonafide Plate, 9’ Extension Cable, Bonafide foot pedal steering & kit for better Shroud +spare prop for the RvR 119 came in @ $2K incl shipping/ Tx for both orders.
I've been debating the trolling motor addition to my Recon 120 HD and keep the pedals and rudder functional. I wanted to go with the Yak Hoby Beavertail rudder but I'm going with the Bixpy and Versa rudder now. Makes using the motor with another kayak way easier. Thanks for the review
I just did an install of one of these on my buddies 120pdl. Way too loud the battery is a major issue and you would think it would be a little more weedless. Looks great but the nk kills it
It is becoming increasingly clear to me that I "should not" buy a full size boat for recreation--cost vs. how often I would use it. I am older and need to keep my expenses in check. I am not unhealthy or lacking upper body strength, but I just to have fun on the water experiences. Is this a good value for older people?
10 outta 10 is gonna be tough for anyone. It would be going way above and beyond. I don’t think it would be fair to give a 10 here, because they sent me the product and will obviously take care of me because Im reviewing it. If I wasn’t making a review as a normal customer, and they gave me this service, then id be even closer to a 10.
Wow Jeff ,I didn't know that you could go that fast in a kayak. That big water is we're it's at in speed. Maybe the next one I get. it's pretty expensive for that epdl version, but sweet looking!
I'm trying to figure out where I can find this $40,000 truck with a factory warranty... 🤔🤣 Hahaha! Thanks for another in depth video. I'm in the market for a motor on my Sportsman PDL 106 but still probably going to still go with a Newport.
New on the channel, impeccable review! I have an inflatable fishing kayak: Aquaglide Blackfoot 160, 16 feet long and am looking for the most compact and powerful motor. I am hesitating between the (Bixpy K-1 Angler Pro Outboard Kit) and the (Scubajet PRO Overwater Kit / Scubajet PRO XR HD) I would love to have such a detailed review on this product.
i personally appreciate this outstanding review i bought nk180 for 700 bought 2 12. 50 ah for 300 so about 1 k in price.. do you guys in michigan need to register your kayak wih motorThanks
Question for you guys. Did you say you shouldn't rig the Bixby in a fixed position and use the kayak rudder to steer (the company recommends this for my Hobie Compass)? If so, why not? Is there a downside to doing this? Thanks for your help.
I think we were just saying, you want it in a straight position not offset like we had it on Paul's Old Town. It works great, as long as it replaces or is out of the way of your rudder.
@@aaanglers Yeah! Usually, when I am running electrical cables and I don't have a guiding cable, I use a vacuum cleaner and braided fishing line. When I receive the line in the vacuum cleaner I pull a single cable so that I can use it as a guiding cable 😜😉. Also, for passing cables through tubes on a kayak, you can use your bare mouth and suck the braided line so you can use it as a cable guider after 😉.
Hi I have a 400 lb dory that I am looking to get an electric motor for. Which would you recommend? It's a row, sail motor boat called a crawford swampscott dory 16. I want something also that I can take to use on a double ended rowboat 17 ft. I don't want to buy two different motors so am looking for one for both boats. I know the motor for the dory at 400 lbs compared to the rowboat at 150lbs will be overkill but that's the trade off lol. Thanks!
Hi Guys Really like your channel - like kids in the candy shop on the unboxing videos it is infectious.Any how I am based in the UK however during a recent holiday in France I thought I would have some fun spinning for perch etc- however when I went to the tackle store I was confronted with a whole array of lures that the guy assured me worked - and boy did they had so much fun - so am thinking of carrying on here - I have at present a Daiwa Ninja rod - 7-25g rating but will also be buying a rod to cast lighter lures (although the above does well with 5g lures) - however I am at the point of choosing the reel and am tempted by the Shimano slx dc xt- what I find incredible is that you speak of really light weight 32nd of an ounce which you cast with these reels - can a lure that light really get a baitcasting reel spinning enough to make an effective cast? Apolgies if this seems a basic question but I have always been used to a fixed spool reel and perhaps need some reassurance from you guys in the know before I purchase- like you buy once cry once! Regards
you certainly can cast lures that light with a good BFS reel. You would likely have a tough time on a Shimano SLX XT. We'd recommend reels rated to go that light. Options include: Daiwa Salamandura, Flight Feather Cormorant, Ark BFS, Daiwa BFS, Shimano Aldabaren, and others. Pick your poison by price point! All of those are fantastic.
i have just the motor it just ok, but the customer service is really bad. I will not be buying anything from this company anymore. just throwing that out there for anyone thinking of buying this very expensive motor....don't.
What exactly happened with customer service? We secret shopped them and it was stellar service. We aren't sponsored by them, so share your story, we don't mind. Would love to know how they let you down.
That’s not how in depth reviews work. I know we expect everything in 60 seconds these days, but this is a ridiculous comment bud. Ps, you can both fast forward and watch any video at 1.5 or even 2 x speed for more instant gratification. Hope this helps.
Literally a review, like the title says. And I said in the video “this is not an install video”. Why would I make an install video when Bixpy has a thousand of them. This is a review for people on the fence about buying one.
@@aaanglers I can admit when I'm wrong. But admit you could achieve your goal in 10 minutes. 39 minutes? You like you. Maybe I'm salty. This doesn't fit my kayak. Ha

It's also worth mentioning that the smaller battery shown in this video floats.
Best trick I found on you tube for putting the line through the steering tubes was to use a leaf blower. Works like a charm.

It’s definitely not silent after speed 6 out of 10. We will be testing the nk real soon
Great review. The Newport is a lithium battery BUT insanely expensive. I do like how you can use any battery with them though.
Not a bad deal for lower priced unit, fair speed and battery longevity. Be a good product for a lighter kayak.
Watching the entire review now. I really want the K1 for my RVR 119 weight is premium to me
🙌
I'll be eager to see your review of the NK180PRO
Great information how about one on budget friendly kayaks just asking i am a big guy and on a low budget thank you
Great review and video. Considering this for my Bonafide SS127. I like how it’s small and easy to install and remove.
for the bolts you can cut them down or use an angled grinder
100, looking for a simpler end user deal is all.

What would give Bixby a 10 instead of a 9 on customer service? Seems like they did a great job providing you a replacement.

The newest gen2 pro battery is lighter than the gen1 pro kit battery. Which is great.

1st day in a kayak today. Was nice. Being lazy and cruising the water even better.
Is there a reason why you used 2 screws instead the hand screws that’s provided with the mount on 106 kayak ?
We used 4 screws on the mount, because the screws included with our 106 were too short
Best review I’ve ever seen on the Bixpy great work
Thank you!

Next time you want to run lines through tubes remember that you can use a vacuum cleaner! Works for the most demanding situations!😊
Interesting hack!

do you need to use their proprietary batt or can you use say a dakota one?
You do have to use their battery. Similar to Torqeedo.
I wonder if, you can use blue painters tape to fix that Magnet switch problem. lol
you could, until it gets wet for sure

can use an air compressor to blow the line through the tube
Hot tip!
My question is will this work in the ocean?
I guarantee bixpy covers that on their website, but im not sure
I'd like to see the motor mounted where the pedal drive goes, have you guys done that yet ? Thanx.
We have not done that. Not sure if we will either. It's best for Hobie and Vibe kayaks I think.
That trolling motor in the corner would do the same thing for 600$ and a battery with 4 times the stored power. What a joke.
Okay, a joke is a bit harsh lol. It can do that for sure, it will also weigh A LOT more
love your beard 🧔
Thanks!
What happen to burley fishing? Why did you guys change your iconic name
Just felt right
Because it’s not just one person anymore
Heard bixpy slow AF?
Nope, it is faster than a bow mount motor, like the motorguide xi3. You can get between 3.5 and 5 mph depending on the kayak hull shape.

Simple marketing for them. Most companies try to do that. Definitely a money game
@@aaanglers Wish I had started a channel! 😄
