I love the fact that this really validated my choices! I recently upgraded from running a Bixpy K1 on an Outback to a NK180 Pro on a PA360. Interesting that you feel like foot steering is a must-have for the 180Pro! I would have liked to have heard more about why you feel that way.
@@aaanglers hmmmm, thanks! I’m gonna spend some time getting to know my new set up but really I only use the motor for getting from point A to point B and then I pretty much use my pedal drive for turns, moving around & holding my spot…
Greate video realy helps choosing the right motor at least for me. Question is You mentioned foot the steering for the Newport motors, do you not recommend hand steering? If not why ? Thanks in advance
Foot steering is definitely superior, because it is hands free and allows you easy control. That's why we always talk about it. Hand steering is always an option, just not as good.
I have a Bixpy K-1, a Motorguide XI-3, and a Newport NK-300. I like all three. Each has its own value and application. All depends on the kayak and what you want to accomplish. Great video!
Nice job out of the gate with the rating system! Some initial thoughts. (1) As you know, weight is pretty important, doesn't need a separate category but maybe be more exact on "all in" weight. (2) Installation difficultly, again probably doesn't need a separate category, but a specific call-out would be nice, and (3) finally, this is just preference, but I tend to use a spider chart when looking at one metric (value) that is really a composite metric (but I'm a data guy 😊). I'm sure i speak for the community when I say we are sincerely grateful for you guys taking the time to do this (spouses must be angels!). Cheers, JJ (ps: want to sell the NK180 pro?) Haha 😊
I got the nk300 on pa12 and love it Works great and goes fast I got a battery from litime less expensive 55Ah last all day and next day quality and performance 5/5 for me
So I'm an aggressively average kayak tournament angler - used to run a Slayer Max 12.5, but these old bones just hate moving the sheer weight of it (and the excessive amount of tackle) around. Downsizing to an RVR 119 with the 180 Pro (and significantly less tackle) for next year! Plus the RVR paddles awesome and will double as a throw and go (sans motor).
I have a couple of NK300 motors. I fish in the Puget Sound, where power can be really useful. Newport has great customer service, but no in-house or approved contracted repair capabilities. One of my motors has an electric issue and isn’t covered by the warranty since purchased used.. If I can’t find someone local, I’ll be out of a motor. When they work, the NK300 is great!
Flawless victory(Rating format)!!!!…. Awesome review…. Tip top bro’s. Thank s for sharing. This will definitely help those who need the confidence to make their decision on what works for them. 🤙😎 #NK180Pro is dope on the water. I use a 60ah battery all day on the 106pdl with all my gear plus I’m a big boy(260lbs)averaging 5.1 mph.
Single prop motors are dinosaurs. Dual prop, joystick controlled motors are the future. You should look into the PacMotor. For under a grand, they are great.
been waiting for this video....newport is still my go to company cuz its much cheaper and it can hook up to any battery ,even a DIY project the standard trolling motors is the best bang for your buck compared to minn kota or watersnake
With the prop cover we have it does pretty good. It will get clogged and you have to clear it. The newport is much better, and the xi3 with the right prop is a little better.
Great job fellas. I was thinking about buying a motor for my PDL 120 but I’m thinking I’ll just get an autopilot instead. If I’m gonna spend 2k on a motor might as well get a new yak as well lol 😂.
I love the idea of spot lock, however, didn’t motor guide just get bought out? And if so, how does that affect the future of that unit with respect to warranty, parts, etc.?
The only thing I didn't like about the nk180 was that little hex screw that holds the motor from turning. I feel like that is soooo cheap, and they could and should have made it better. Otherwise the motor is NICE! Good reviews 👍 guy's
Interesting. Would like to hear your thoughts on Thrustme Kicker vs Elite. I am considering both but leaning toward the Kicker because of the remote and dual battery option and nonproprietary battery . option. Both are cheaper and simple.
Wish you would also measure noise level under water. "Stealthiness" bake it in to Innovation. Also, put a small text on screen stating what product you are talking about.
@@aaanglers I mean text on screen for the whole duration on which you talk about that specific product. Yes to accurately measure sound under water you need a hydrophone and record in similar conditions, but maybe a gopro in divecase that you go by / above will give enough data to start with. Hopefully the manufacturer know, might be measured for some "marine environment product" certificate.
all of these will last all day (6-8 hours) on the batteries we showed. With the Newport you can also get your own battery at higher amp hour and run even longer.
Not that I’m a huge fan of the Bixby motor but when you rated it for quality, the two issues you mentioned were due to user error in my opinion so I would say that you were being a bit harsh on the product to blame it for those problems.
It broke due to a rock and a piece of rope. I have run my xi3 and nk motors into trees and boulders, they are fine. The is a difference in quality, when it comes to durability
Spot Lock is King IMHO..... I use it daily in winds and in current under a Dam..... when the NKs have that option, my wallet would be lighter that day 😅
@@aaanglers Thats what I’m thinking as well. Maybe these manufacturers can bump it up just a bit and land us in that exact territory. Then we’d be all set 👍
Number-wise, transom mount trolling motors are "The MOST POPULAR Kayak Motors". And the reason is obvious: cost. So your title is bogus. (You limited your scope and yes you explained that, so I still think your content was informative and fun. I hope your video embarrasses Torqeedo into giving you one for comparison.)
No one said ya can’t! We won’t because we want to use mounting options other than transom, we want foot steering and we want to use remotes and throttle control.
Love the new system and direction! Ton of info in a very well presented format!
You might consider slowing down the transitions on the graphs a touch
Thank you!
Agreed! Will do!

Foot steering wins because it’s hands free and has a tighter turn radius in our opinion

I have the J1 and have had no problems with it. It came with the cage. I don't drag it on the bottom or rocks. It will pop up if I hit something.

Thanks for the website-solid info! Just wish you kept it tighter and got to the point a little quicker on the vids
How so? Legitimately, when laying out a video reviewing 4 motors, what should be cut and how can we better get to the point?
Great video, surprised you didn’t include a Torqeedo though
Ain’t got that kinda money 😂 4 motors was the limit. Also couldn’t get a hold of them
How does the Bixpy do in weeds, or heavy Algae? Looks like it might get plugged up easy.

True, and when they sell them all, we will need a new bow mount option that isn’t the $4000 power pole option

I backed my kayak into a brick wall with the nk180 attached. It twerked the mount but just scratched the motor. Highly recommend. Stout little motor
Crazy!
I know it’s slower but man, I soooooo want an Unlimited with spotlock.
Well hopefully they have made it more quiet because the NK 300 i heard was very loud like the 403
on a avg day of fishing, did you find that the 180 lasted all day. got a pdl 120 and trying to decide which one would be a better choice.

Where is the the best place to buy the Xi3?
Google to compare prices

Torqueedo all the way baby if can afford it.
Couldn’t get our hands on one 😢
In y’all’s opinion, what do you think would be an optimal speed from a kayak motor without being “too” much for the kayak?
6 to 7 is maxed pretty much
@@aaanglers Thats what I’m thinking as well. Maybe these manufacturers can bump it up just a bit and land us in that exact territory. Then we’d be all set 👍
motor keeps breaking...3/5 lmfao. yea that makes sense.

I decided on the NK 180 pro even before watching this video. Weight and power, price plus build quality , checks all the boxes for me .

Need a new bow mount option for sure
