      It still is the most sustainable base in the game with the equivalent of a Large Slot (8 Beds) free and then the free two watchtowers when combined with the staging area outpost.
      Like, it genuinely is the most self-sustainable base in the game, and when no outposts or slots have to be spent on beds and no outposts or slots have to be spent for watchtowers. You actually get more freedom with those slots.
      Like its only genuine weakness is just having two Large Slots that you can customize, but every slot you have you can fully customize without having to worry about things like costs or resource drain. It is a Fortress through and through cause you genuinely can just bunker down and never need to leave.
      Like, just do an officer quarters and you'll be in the green there without the lounge thanks to its other benefits.
      Though I am mostly just attached to how silly easy that base is to work with, like, never having to keep track of anything and just being able to completely ignore the base management mechanics entirely. Hell, the Morale Drains from no Watchtowers and Morale Drains due to beds/stamina penalties from fatigue will just never be a thing. Like, you don't *need* a lounge there, you will still be able to maintain high morale easily without it at the Container Fort thanks to the six small slots (that don't need to be beds or watchtowers) and you will still be able to use trade depot and any other large slot. So I think it does depend on how optimal is defined there.
      Cause you certainly are not going to fail at the container fort unless you outright mess up, cause the sustainability of Container Fort makes it an easy infinite base *without* needing either the trade depot or lounge, you will never even have to leave the base if you have neither.

    *Pros* : +8 beds no matter what
    A viable landmark outpost for almost any playthrough
    Guards without cost
    High storage for all resources especially ammo and fuel
    Juggernauts can not enter the base
    Can also block regular zombies to only using the doors by blocking the climbable wall with a shooting range (not sure if any other small facility can do the same)
    A good number of small facilities with one indoor
    *Cons* : Only 2 Large spaces
    Location
    Only 3 car slots

      I think the “finding a house with a gun in it” as an outpost is a bit unmanageable from a video games perspective, unless they handle those like the marked outposts. HOWEVER the rest of your comment I 100% agree with.
      Why can’t I have an outpost in my bases safe zone be used strictly for beds? Or farming?
      Days gone on ps4 actually incorporated some of the stuff you’re talking about(if you haven’t played days gone you need to. It’s a much better game that state of decay in some ways, and I hate comparing the 2 games.

    It's been a while since I've been in Cascade Hills. So long that I forgot it only had two large large facilities. For an end game base, that does suck.

  • @griffonclaw
    @griffonclaw 2 года назад

    To answer your question, for me, the church is a great mid-tier base on the map. There are enough slots to put in a workshop, infirmary, (2) sheltered beds (I'd rather spend Daybreak influence and purchase the RT facilities like the barracks), a lounge (and under a sheriff, you can train at level 3) and the remaining spot could be a fighting gym or a shooting range. You can have both with the RT barracks. This is a perfect treadmill for training up your five guys. I tend to stay at the church a long time just because it's central and has the benefit of being an influence farm. It's only fault is that it's only good for 5-6 members. Otherwise, you lose utility to make bed space. The Container Fort is very nice, but it's biggest disappointing factor is the lack of the third large slot. However, once I no longer need training facilities (gym, range, lounge 3), it becomes very useful. Cascade Hills is the least advantageous of all the maps and for me, Providence Ridge's bases are all great.

    The Container Fort is a good base. It has a built in Spartan Barracks with no moral penalty, and Leeds Concrete acts as a Staging Area, so that's two additional large slots. The two built in watchtowers with no ammo cost are better than the built in watch towers in the other large bases. The Fire Station, your guards are rarely ever there, and in Whitney Field they'll shoot at your cars and blow them up.
    It's also the easiest large base to defend during sieges. I like to hop onto the container outside the west entrance and pick off all the zeds from there. You get an easy view of the door to defend it, and when you stand on the container all the zeds outside who see you just stop and yell, so it makes it easy for your guards to pick them off.
    Cascade Hills also has the best bases in terms of siege defense. The Bridge Fort is a great 4 man base, only two entrances and it has two built in watch towers by each entrance, it's easily the best base in the game in terms of defense. The Church is also great, not a single wall that zeds can climb over, and you can easily block off 2 out of 3 entrances.

    • @GitGudFox
      @GitGudFox  2 года назад

      The problem is some misunderstandings. Allow me to explain.
      1) Defense is irrelevant. You only need to defend your base in 3 situations: CLEO drop, Haven Device setup, and Builder's Legacy final mission.
      You never need to defend your base outside of that. You can just drive away. Defense is not important.
      2) Beds aren't important. You can hit the highest tier of morale with 0 beds. Beds prevent you from losing -7 morale per bed. You can get beds from allied enclaves if you want them, but you don't need them. A level 3 lounge is more than enough morale to compensate for having 0 beds.
      3) Leeds is the only good thing, but you could just go to Mohr & Mohr instead which is better than the Container Fort and easier to get inside of. You also can just build materials outposts to counteract your material losses on other maps. Leeds is decent, but it's not enough to make Container Fort good.
      In other words, most of the stuff you're pointing out that's "good" about the Container Fort isn't relevant to the gameplay mechanics.

    • @geodude3966
      @geodude3966 2 года назад

      @@GitGudFox Good base defense is important, because sieges are the most fun part of the game! I never miss a siege, and I'm always trying out different ways of killing the hordes. The devs didn't give us all those different kinds of guns just to scrap them for parts! Yeah you can just cheese the game by ignoring sieges or starting a siege then driving away, but where's the fun in that?
      Technically you could just stay at your starter home and speed through the game killing all the plague hearts. But that's no fun. I like role-playing in the game and pretending that my community is trying to survive the zombie apocalypse.

    • @GitGudFox
      @GitGudFox  2 года назад

      It sounds like they're mainly important to you because you can just skip them all, and I recommend everyone do that. If you've done 10 sieges, you've done 10,000 sieges. They're all the same after a while.
      The thing is that you're on a video about recommending bases, based on their total strength, to people. To recommend a base for anything except its total strength is deceptive. You could trick a player who is still learning into thinking a base is better than it actually is when they read the comment section.
      People can obviously like whatever base they want, but to call a pretty average base "good" is deceptive. Container Fort is comparable to to a 6-man base rather than an 8-man base. It's the weakest of its kind other than perhaps Fort Marshal.

    Great review of Cascade Hills! I really enjoy your analysis and the thoughtfulness you put into your commentary. Plus your humor 😊 I've never loved this map, but have made peace with it over the years. One thing I kinda wish is that you'd showcase how to leverage what each base gives you as much as possible vs. compare it to what you've concluded is most powerful in the game. While it's definitely true that some things are more objectively powerful than others, do players really just want to build Lounge 3 and Trade depot over and over every playthrough? I guess maybe many players will do that just to be most powerful. Personally, I find it kinda just too bad to cut out a ton of base building variety in the name of squeezing out a bit more power. It's kinda nice to pull on different levers in the game to implement different strategies, even if they aren't always perfectly optimal. Like, to go in the farm in Meagher Valley and not build any farms, or leverage the built-in kitchen, why even bother going to that base? That kinda thing. I 100% agree that M&M is pound for pound the most optimal base. I've pushed myself to stop defaulting to it, to try exploring more the other bases. I just wish L&K wasn't always blocked with 3-4 hearts.

      @@GitGudFox Thanks for your detailed and insightful explanation. This is way better than starting with an accusation/personal language assault like "you don't know what you are talking about".
      I do accept that your claims now, but according to your another (earlier) review, when mentioning toilets in Barbed Mall, you said that is a questionable built-in. So it the toilet good or bad after all?

    • @GitGudFox
      @GitGudFox  2 года назад

      I'll give you the more detailed explanation using beds and the latrine.
      Not having a bed cause -7 morale per survivor missing a bed. It doesn't prevent them from resting or recovering from fatigue. Note that beds don't INCREASE morale so much as they cancel a possible loss of morale... meaning excess beds aren't helpful unless your community can grow more and fill the beds.
      Common Bed Options (Small)
      Sheltered Beds: 2 beds (cancel up to -14 morale)
      Sheltered Beds level 2: 3 beds for 1 material per day (cancel up to -21 morale)
      Red Talon Bunkroom: 5 beds but -5 Community Morale (cancel up to -35 morale).
      Now let's consider the level 1 latrine.
      Latrine (Clean Toilets): +10 Community Morale.
      So these are all small facilities. It's important to note the difference between "community morale" changes and self only changes.
      Community morale changes are +/- morale multiplied across everyone in the community.
      Self Only morale changes only affect a specific character.
      So, if you have a community of 3 people, and no one has a bed? You lose 21 morale.
      So you build a Sheltered Beds Level 2, pay 1 material per day, and you prevent a loss of 21 morale.
      OR
      You build a latrine, clean the toilets, and get +10 Morale x 3 Survivors = +30 morale which overpowers the -21 morale from them not having beds meaning you still +9 morale overall.
      The RT Bunkroom is worse. Suppose you have an 8-man community.
      RT Bunkroom cancels -35 Morale... but also causes -5 Community Morale meaning -40 Morale.
      Before RT Bunk (no beds): You are -56 Morale from no one having beds.
      After RT Bunk (5 beds): You are -61 Morale with 3 people missing beds.
      With a level 1 latrine (no beds): You are +24 Morale with 8 people missing beds.
      BUT LET'S keep it simple.
      The Latrine is +10 Morale x Everyone in your Community
      Beds are block -7 Morale for everyone who has a bed.
      10 is a bigger effect than 7, and if it's evenly multiplied across everyone, the latrine will always have a higher positive morale impact than missing beds.

      He's just allergic to the truth. Fox makes a quantitative analysis that shows why you're favorite thing is bad; therefore, it must be whining.

    It a great base but it always under attack from my experience,I prefer M&M cause I rarely get jumped and so far characters don't needless to outside the base just imo

      Yeah, I have definitely had people go outside of the walls for no reason. It literally defeats the purpose of having walls too.

      To prevent from that happening, I uses cars to block the side and the back entrance. Since the AI will detect that and all Zeds will walk around to the parking lot front, with a little more Cars setup you can easily funnel down Zeds attack. I always use a Van to park right at the edge of the climbable section, the Zeds will not attempt to sneak in like the side of Strip Mall. The downside of this is getting the cars or spend influence to call in more cars from your ally.

    Playing the COntainer Fort now and it's bugged. No beds and zero guard posts for me. I just moved from the map with Squelones Brewing Company.
