It's only an 8 influence difference between brew beer and strong painkillers. I've done the math. If you use the Trade Depot influence prices for four rucksacks of food VS two rucksacks of meds and two rucksacks of food (let's assume they both give you 4 food/meds resource) then the food → ethanol and then ethanol → strong painkillers wins out.
It's 525 influence for three rucksacks of food (12 food resource rounding up), and then another 525 influence for three rucksacks of meds (12 meds resource rounding up). These influence values come from the trade depot costs to buy rucksacks. 12 food resource (cost 525) converts to 20 jugs of ethanol at a still. If we use those 20 jugs of ethanol to make 10 meds (cost 525 for 12 meds trade depot) worth of strong painkillers, we get 60 strong painkillers produced, and two meds resource for a margin of error. This is useful since sometimes the rucksack gives you 3 meds instead of 4.
This means for the cost of 1050 influence we get approximately enough food and meds resource rucksacks to make 60 strong painkillers. 60 strong painkillers at 34 a pop makes us 2040 influence. Which means we make 990 influence in profit.
24 food resource rucksack (cost 1050 influence same as above) gives us 8 crafts at a still which converts to 8 Barlywine (824 influence) and 32 craft brew beer (1224 influence) which equals 2048 influence. This means we profit 998 influence.
Strong Painkillers gives us a 990 influence profit potential with a **2 meds resource margin of error**. Craft Brew Beer gives us 998 influence profit potential with **NO margin of error**. This means that if you are buying your resources at trade depot price, make strong painkillers, since you are making a profit. If you are looting your resources make Craft Brew Beer for a greater 8 influence in profit.

I only played twice there but always skipped this base because Rusty Rosie's is closer to starting base and because of the price I thought that these 2 bases would be too similar.
When doing a fresh start, WBS seems like the ideal base for your Trade Depot + Forge strategy Fox. While the customization is outstanding, you have to build everything from scratch, which is really, really expensive materials-wise on lethal zone. I do think there's a lot to be said for bases with some built-ins, especially if they are level 3 workshop, level 3 infirmary, or the level 3 lounge at KFD. Fort Marshall is really nice that way, for example. While built-ins reduce customizability, the trade-off is that they reduce materials cost. Given how expensive things are on lethal, that can be appealing, depending on playstyle. I'm the kinda player who is less concerned with becoming godlike powerful and more concerned about just beating the map, do materials cost is a factor for me. I do really enjoy WBS though and agree with your analysis. I also learned in this video that the boozehounds give knowledge of bartending. I had totally missed that before. Between that and their really, really good supply drop, I couldn't ever see not completing their quest line and keeping them around. Really powerful enclave! With the growlers of barleywine, beer does edge out strong painkillers--enough that it is noticeable.
Thing is that you don't need to max out facilities to get their primary use. Level 2 infirmary is fine. Level 1 gym is fine. Level 1 shooting range is fine. Level 2 workshop is fine. You don't need to upgrade a lot of buildings really. I hate built-ins because they're usually garbage like latrines and kitchens.
@@GitGudFox Yeah agree about not upgrading some facilities. I don't see the value in workshop 3 for sure. I've been contemplating going with a low-materisls build for a while, which has me revisiting armory and field hospital, freeing up the usual infirmary and workshop probably for hydroponics, which is also great value materials-wise. Getting power is the tricky part, since I don't use amenities.

Big fan of this base for sure. I usually just stay in this one. Fire station area is really crummy for getting around and why would you not have amenities lol. The lumber mill is ok but I like having small facilities. Haven't messed around with it to much though.
I think Western is over rated. I only care about top tier bases. And I think Whitney Field is the best base over all. The announcer box is just too good. And I guess it all depends on where you are at in the game. Especially with the forever update. Continuing on with the same community is over powered honestly. It just changes the whole dynamic of the game. Calling in from the legacy pool is ridiculously useful. Especially in Whitney Field because you have unlimited influence. But I would agree with you in a fresh, from scratch play through. But I doubt I will ever do that again now. Disclaimer, I am currently playing on dread. Going to do the 4 then move onto lethal. Your tips and Brian Menards have made it possible.

And I don't play with boons because that requires me starting my community from scratch each time. Which would be truly a waste of time to keep doing the same thing over and over. Also, once I beat lethal, I will probably never play this game again because, see above for doing the exact same thing over and over again.
@@MAXTORRACER So your going the whole game without even using the boons. Yeah, that makes complete sense. lol. Iv completed everything and still only play lethal mode. Game is boring under lethal. Game has the replay value on lethal. Those boons will help out a lot in lethal. I didn't have a choice but to start over. The forever community update was just released. Been playing since Game was released. My point is your missing out. Get to lethal asap. Your thank me later. Lol
It's a cool base, but despite providence being my most played map and the one my main community is on, I've never tried the base, just can't compete with the sawmill, especially when you have 2 community members that give 9 beds, so no need for them, saving a free build spot 😁
So you're just ignore building sleeping space and kitchen? How does that affect community - does it give any penalties? If so - i assume you have something to compensate setbacks?
The only penalty for lack of beds is -7 morale per person missing a bed. A latrine is +10 Morale x All Survivors, so you’d really never build beds except in very specific situations like having a white noise machine.
@@GitGudFox damn, who knew sleep deprivation is just a simple inconvenience :) They really should make penalties affect hp and stamina, or else barracks and bunk beds are literally just redundand.

It’s got a decent location on the map as well. One of the differences between the comparable bases like Mikes Concrete and Mohr and Mohr storage

Usually ends up being my final base. Once it's set up I don't really feel the need to move again.
Western Builder Supply is my favorite 1000 infuence base's in Providence Ridge map.

A good variation of your base is putting officers quarters instead of shooting range and put the Red talon barracks instead of the gym

Just skip to lethal and unlock the boons for all. Waste of time to run through all.

Not enough beds is a pretty small morale penalty. Lots of ways to offset it. Edit: Lounge helps a lot
