Welcome to my channel! In today's video, I'm sharing my experience with growing potatoes this season. Unfortunately, it wasn't a success - and I want to show you the true cost of my potato failure.
I'll go over the mistakes I made and what I could have done differently to have a better harvest. I hope that by sharing my failures, I can help others avoid making the same mistakes and have a successful potato crop.

I really need to get out in the garden for my mental health. Feeling so miserable and stressed. Guess I will just have to brave the weather and get busy in the garden despite the weather. Can’t wait for the spring to come. Thanks for your videos. I really enjoy them 😊

Gardening is definitely good for your mental health.
Once you make that first move, the day will fly by while you're out there and the exercise leads to a good night's sleep.

Hi Tony , I have been doing the same job this week on my plot in the Black Country with the potatoes but I grow my new spuds in tyres , I found the Jazzy all rotted but Charlotte wasn’t to bad I think it was all the rain we had in October just ruined the crop .keep up the good work 👍 7:53 8:04

Oh my Tony cracking that you are so chipper about it. I panicked 3 days into the cold snap and harvested everything. I had mine stored stacked up with a tarp over. So the compost was dry and hadn't frozen and everything was OK but my attempt at a late crop in the polytunnel was obviously flattened and the wet compost had frozen solid. Who knows if they would have survived the entire 10 days at one point it was -10C but that tarp saved the crop for me. Hope this helps for this year

I actually had quite a good potato crop I use Charlotte and Picasso...ALOT were no effort potatoes from where I hadnt dug up every single tiny spud LAST year :)

my first year growing in 30ltre tubs Tony, had a great crop thought I would keep some tubs for Christmas, big mistake once the frost came I lost 6 tubs of spuds that went like yours, its a learning curve. I will make sure I harvest the lot this year and put them in a potato sack.

wel done, hope the salad's still good. the kettle thing is not true, just put one cup of water in it. if it's full it takes longer to heat and if you do 5x 1 cup takes the same amount of 1x a whole kettle worth 5 mugs. what yoiu can do is put a pan ontop of another pan while you're cooking to warm up dish water or tea water, if you're using elextrix xooking plates they stay hot long after cooking and then you can heat up water for rinsing dishes too

That resembles to my last years results - 10kg seed potatos resulted in not even 3̶0̶ 40kg harvest - to say it politely. This year I took care of dry feet - got over 60.....

I had two forgotten about buckets that were same as yours too but salvaged enough for wedges for tea! I’d say try what I did; use that potaty bucket bed and hummock compost on the ground and cover with plastic and pop a seed potato through a cut cross. It keeps the moisture in and is easy to pull up as they grow in the fluffy compost. Could even cut a big hole in the face of a bag and lay that on the soil then plant through the cross in the top side 😊

    Chin up Tony.
Plenty of potatoes in the shops.
Just a thought about the tubs. Maybe the old school trenching method is out of fashion, but during droughts I have no doubt, especially in clay soil that the potato crop will fair better and probably survive penetrating frosts better.

Tony, if you want to gain another growing bed, put one of your potato pots in the corner of each of your beds and that will free up the big bed next to the compost bays 😉😁🌱☀️

I surprised that you didn't accidentally empty the potato pots next door just in case you got some volunteers.
May be you could slowly start covering next doors plot with any more cardboard or membrane you have through out the year, I know you are not able to get it but at least it would stop the
weeds. Is that allowed within your allotment rules?

Tony just one question i can never solve when you harvest your potato crop you always miss a few they stay in the ground all winter through rain hale and snow and when the spring arrives they form great volunteer plants why did the frost not kill or the rain rot ????

Hi Tony, I'm not sure if it make any difference to you, mind you heaven knows what next winter will bring. I did my celeriac a bit late and so I put them in the tunnel. They are coming on and I have had tons of leaves and stems off of them to eat. Also, I had minus 9.5 in the tunnel, but the late (august) potatoes were ok. I wonder if you had a chill wind or it was the snow. it wasn't a huge harvest mind you. It may have been because they were small of course. All the best.

Chin up fella, it's only tatties, oh and celeriac and beans and lettuce.... What's the bloody point? It's fun and we love it, failures and all. I lost my tatties by September, all my peas got eaten by rats, my carrots went mouldy in the ground, I got 3 courgette and 2 measally cucumber all season. Will I do it all again? Damn right but hopefully learn from my failures. Don't give up Tony your doing great.
