    Sweet potatoes don't mind dry weather. Indeed, you can damage the tubers by overwatering very easily. So they might be an option for you.

    I love gardening, I just really let my plants go and they do good with potting soil and fertilizer. But last year I tried carrots in a raised bed. Incredible. This year I had some probs with cats making it a littler box. I helped them change their address. I just about gave up on them but they came back unreal, totally impressed with carrots and taters and maters!

    That’s a fantastic harvest! I did notice (I could be mistaken) that the middle row of buckets hadn’t as many Potato’s. Possibly a double row, bit more water and feed through growing period next season. Every year you’ll learn more and improve the outcome of your harvests. All the best in your gardening endeavors 😊

    Love the snowman potatoes I get them sometimes. I think feeding them makes it much better but I have been doing lots of experiments to see if I can get better yields. This is a great yield well done.

    Wonderful Harvest. This spring in Florida I'm going to be growing my potatoes and quite a few other things I haven't had a garden since I have my spine injury but I think the bags of in the buckets would be what I would need to get a good harvest maybe 20 lb bag I can get a couple pounds of potatoes out of that would be wonderful. Have a lovely day God bless

  • @rubygray7749
    @rubygray7749 Год назад +1

    Great harvest!
    You need to build yourself a wooden frame with 1 inch mesh on the bottom, to sort your potatoes in. It's really tedious watching you slowly pick out every spud one by one.

    I worked 12 years in fish and chip shops they give the sacks away free as they have to pay the council to take them away same with pickled onion jars and plastic food buckets. Also morrisons give away their plastic cut flower buckets

    May I ask why they were in the ground 25 weeks 😜🤔
    I am a newbie…I grew my first potatoes last year …but I thought most potatoes were 70-90 days in the ground ..
    If I thought they’d look like yours I’ll leave them there ALL WINTER ..LOL 😘

    • @UrbanAllotmentWithLauksie
      @UrbanAllotmentWithLauksie  Год назад

      It’s a good question. Early potato varieties take around 12 weeks for the crop to mature and main crop can take anywhere from 18 -25. The later you harvest the bigger the tubers and the skin hardens so they store for longer 😁

    • @bobbipearcey2059

      THANK YOU SO MUCH !!💕
      I had never heard of that before…but my eyes just GREW and my mouth was watering when I watched you turning over those bags 😍😋
      I also had never heard of PEATLESS compost…
      I actually had to pause the video and rewind to listen again because I thought potatoes “preferred” lower pH 🤦‍♀️💕
      Thank you again … I loved your harvest 🙏❤️🇨🇦

    In the smaller bucket you said it was from a single potato, but you didn't say how many you started in the large container.

    • @UrbanAllotmentWithLauksie
      @UrbanAllotmentWithLauksie  Год назад +1

      Hello! My rule of thumb is 1 seed potato per 10l of soil. This is a 50l container so I placed 3 seed potatoes in the bottom then 2 about half way up. I also just fill my containers to the top so there is no need to add any more soil through the growing period.

      @@UrbanAllotmentWithLauksie Thank you, for your quick response to my question. I really appreciate it! 👍👍 I just started gardening a couple years ago, and can ONLY do it in containers, so I try to get as much info as possible about containers.
