    In my opinion the tops suggested you harvested early. They may well have been significantly larger if you delayed a couple of weeks. I did enjoy the reveal. No squeals of excitement harvesting my containers though, so who am I to judge you.
    The lesson for me is the watering. You said you did it every day. I trusted our wet summer to do the job and as a result my best pot has scab there is some rot and some misshaped ones (suggesting a stop start growth) in other pots but over all mostly small but healthy spuds (and definitely smaller than yours on average). I hope for better as I still have half to lift but all my tops finished many days ago and I have low expectations. I'm pretty sure watering let me down, the rain did not penetrate deeply into my bags and containers. Last year in the drought summer I watered better and got better spuds.

    • @thecraftykelpie
      @thecraftykelpie  Год назад +1

      Yes, in between the Scottish rainfall I watered the container potatoes every day, and yes I harvested them early cause I needed potatoes 😄 I had nothing left in the store cupboard. Thank you for commenting, maybe you will be surprised with the potatoes you still have to dig up, fingers crossed 🤞

      @@thecraftykelpie Thats the difference I thought those heavy English showers would do for a week ( I lived up in the Great Glen for 8 months and I did notice Scotish rain is just as wet as English rain). There is the odd surprise when a container or bag gives a half decent amount but so far no real change. Twelve to go all King Edwards.
      By the way when I run out I stop eating potatoes and don't buy from the shops, the wait makes the early harvest all the more fun.

I've watched other videos of folks growing potatoes in a bucket, and they always seem to be producing bumper crops. I've tried growing them on th open ground, but with very little success. I've also experiments with grow them in more sandy souls, and have gotten better results. B-Strong, B n Christ.
