I see the old goat hiding behind the heart boxes behind Mama Hoss, easy to see when she was talking about fermenting. This is a great video ~ thank You!
I grew potatoes last year for the first time. I used the Ruth Stout method, growing in the straw. It’s the lazy gardener’s way of growing potatoes and when you harvest them, they come out clean because they grow mostly on top of the soil. I’m looking forward to trying it again this year. I’m an urban homesteader so I try all kinds of growing methods.
@@halfbubbleoffplumb8480 Sweet potatoes grow from slips. They are in the morning glory family. Irish potatoes grow from an actual potato (or piece of a potato, depending on size), not slips.
@@DC-rd6oq thanks. I tried both each time. Sweet potatoes tried rooting in a glass held up with tooth picks, and also half deep in moist soil in a pot, no luck getting slips. Tried white potatoes 2x. Cut, planted eyes up in soil, few green leaves came up, flowers on one, let the top wilt n die off no potatoes. Next time cut, let scab over planted in ground nothing sprouted at all. This time, ordered red seed potatoes. They say 3rd times the charm!
You may really enjoy also learning from Jadam, Korean natural farming methods. I live in Orlando Florida and really learned a lot, I am trying to get some ocean water to add to my JLF. There is a farmer named Chris Trump here on RUclips that is 100% KNF.
That silly OLD GOAT is hiding behind the hearts over Mamma Hoss's right shoulder. The garden photos from Tom today were so inspiring and lovely. Well done! I'm still dithering over which potatoes I want to grow here in north Texas. I've been making grow pouches of my empty 50-pound feed sacks for years now. Always have good luck with potatoes in those. I'm leaning towards the Red Norland and either Yukon gold or German Butterball. I've never grown the Butterballs but I keep hearing rave reviews about their tastiness. Probably going to add some Kennebec too, since we do love our fried potatoes. Guess I better hurry up and make up my mind before all the seed potatoes are gone!
That's my garden in the photos. Eastaboga is pronounced East ah Bow gah. It's an old Indian name, Muscogee I believe, for "where the people reside". We're not far from Mt. Cheaha and Talladega Speedway. Those carrots are "container carrots" and I don't think I'll ever go back in ground! I can control that soil consistency, keep it nice and fluffy, and let those carrots grow big and straight. That's green beans in the pic with all of the mulch. That's a 5 panel long "bean tunnel" that the pole beans eventually cover. Nothing like picking beans standing straight up in the shade! I finally saw that dang Goat! Had to get the right camera angle......I believe Karrie must be responsible for hiding him! ;)
Been waiting for this show on potato's a long time. Thanks for adding the container part because that is what I going to do. Boy the old Goat was really hiding well tonight, finely saw him behind the hearts behind Mrs. Hoss.
I am just getting ready to jump into fermenting, so i appreciate the ideas and videos. Old Goat is hiding behind the wood hearts just behind mama hoss. Still struggling with good potatoes harvest here in Florida, so thank you for the info and keep it coming. Thank you
Upstate mountains SC your third shelf on right old goat is dressed to kill for Valentine's right of the heart. I love my chow chow. I'm looking forward to the fermentation. Have a great week ❤️🙏
Last year was my first time growing potatoes. I used welded wire fencing to make hoops that were 18" high and 24" diameter. I lined them with weed block fabric. I used a compost blend for soil. I grew red potatoes and had a great harvest. I liked the method because I can stack the hoops for indeterminate potatoes. To harvest, I pull the wire and push the soil over.
Hello from Texas y'all! Beds are ready. Waiting on the potatoes. We've got lots.of plans for spring. We still have carrots in the ground as well as onions and garlic. We see the Old Goat behind the hearts behind Mama Hoss.
Thanks for the tips on potatoes. Every one of my beds has had tomatoes. Time to build a new bed for my Yukon Golds since Greg said they are a night shade just as tomatoes are. Old Goat behind Sheila and the red hearts.
