I'm a life-long Leafs fan, but I have to say, directly after the game, I logged in to the Hurricanes merchandise site and bought a David Ayres shirt. This is going on display as a reminder of the lowest point I can remember for regular season plays. Ugh! P.S. I was amazed that the Ayres shirt was on sale literally minutes aftet the game ended. I have to give it to Carolina, they are on the ball with merchandising. Ayres receives royalties for the shirt since he didn't get paid for the game, and a portion of the proceeds also goes to a kidney foundation.
I'm a caps fan, but I will be perfectly happy if the Kane win the Stanley Cup one of these days. Much like Vegas in their first season, these guys don't take things too seriously and remind us that hockey is supposed to be fun.

Tampa has 2 Cups since 2004, and while it’s still super early, they’re going to contend for a third Cup in 2021
What Ayres and the Canes pulled off is the most incredible thing I've seen from this team since Game 7 2009 against NJD. And I thought the Michigan goals would be our biggest story of the season
At that point you’re just getting into a shootout with a team that has ALL of the firepower at their disposal. Stamkos, Point, Sergachev, Hedman, Palat, anybody on this Bolts team is lethal with the puck
It's even funnier when you put the Leafs side by side against MLSE's other big team... the Raptors. Two teams that couldn't be further apart from each other right now. One has a chip on their shoulder (despite having literally won a chip the previous season), works hard every night, overcomes injury after injury with incredible depth despite having 0 draft lottery players in their lineup, plays for each other, is the model of consistency game in and game out, barely gets any coverage in either their own market or the NBA as a whole, has zero questions about management, coaching, leadership... anything really. Then the Leafs are just the opposite of all those things.
