It was brought to my attention that the artist shown was not Kei Urana. It’s Hideyoshi Andou. Will be putting a note for correction. I apologize for the mistake😔
It’s fine to make mistakes just know Kei Urana is in that clip you showed with Andou she next to him the she the one with the red hair. But Andou is the one he does the fire graffiti designs in the manga.
@@JohnnyStar Btw, the video is well written and very well edited! I’m happy to know that a manga I appreciate so much is gaining visibility and videos from very good content creators, like you. Congrats!
series author kei urana is a former assistant of okubo and is a major fan of soul eater okubo even called her his successor, so it only makes sense that it's reflected in her own work
@@JohnnyStarwhen you were talking about “style” being what separates good manga from GREAT next gen this was actually this first manga that popped into my mind
8:08 a lot of people say that Rudo is unjustified for doing this and while Amo is defenseless at the moment, you force a man to think they have a second chance with their lover, you force him to turn against the only friends/family he has left, you almost kill those friends, its fair why he'd lash out. Now what I really like about this is after this he gets a conversation with En. This is one of my favorite scenes in the manga, and his talk with En hits really hard. Rudo even goes out of his way to make it up to Amos once Enjin helps Rudo see what he did wrong. Its a shocking moment that to most anime fans may see as wrong when its a justified burst of rage however that doesnt mean Rudo should have done it. Its a moment of "yeah your justified but theirs more important things than just being justified." And rudo missed those things.
Exactly! It’s framed in both ways which I think takes a great writer to pull off. You as the audience is conflicted since you understand why he’s doing it but at the same time is shown in such a violent way that you feel put off. Then the conversation and reveal of Amos past puts it all in perspective
@JohnnyStar yeah Amos's past IS my favorite scene in the manga. Caught me completely off guard and puts amos's childish and rather self centered definition of love into prospective. She was preyed upon by a self centered prick who wanted to use a young amos for whatever twisted rituals that he could. Then tamsy comes in and gives her the boots after killing this selfish man so now amos is left thinking all the suffering she went through was "love". This is the only manga ive seen portray something like this and it hit like a truck.
I loved that chapter, not only because it really emphasized that dark fantasies shouldn't be beholden by very normative ideas of good and violence, but also because the character it affected is one who's been through and inflicted grave evil, yet she doesn't feel as if she only exists for that notion. That moment was intentionally gruesome, but the comments seemed to just knee-jerk see violence against women as bad, not even realizing Urana is one herseld.
Urana really did a great job of contextualizing the event in a way a weaker writer would’ve failed to do. It’s not just “violence bad cause woman” it’s “violence for the sake of violence answers nothing”. Forcing Rudo to come to grips with understanding of the world, how he treats people and how he should his strength to do better
Man, i love your visual storytelling and the way you integrate the MUSIC element in your videos, it really feels like MUSIC is a distinct character of your video. Anyways love from nepal
I found out about this and started reading when the trailer for the anime dropped, and it has quickly become one of my favourite manga, so much so that i am planning to get a tattoo (my first) of something from the manga, likely the Watchman Series symbol
Amazing video as per usual Johnny. I read the first 25 or so chapters a few years back when it just started, but I didn't honestly vibe too heavy with the series. Your video has definitely sparked a ton more interest for me to go back and give it another go however. Seems like there's a lot more for me to sink my teeth into from what you've described. Again, great video Mr Star!!
The chapters where amo's backstory was being shown and the more childish art style that was drawn to convey how amo felt was so sickening... and i love a manga that can make me feel for the characters
Gachiakuta is literally my second favorite manga behind Bleach. Everything about it just works its insane. Also do NOT wish death upon my glorious king Enjin he will LIVE to see the end of the series 😭😭😭
I meant mechanically, not one for one. Characters can have the similar narrative purposes and not be the exact same in terms of character. Enjin and Gojo share the role of strong mentor for the character to aspire to. Everyone looks to them as the peak of the verse.
It was brought to my attention that the artist shown was not Kei Urana. It’s Hideyoshi Andou. Will be putting a note for correction. I apologize for the mistake😔

It okay we all make mistakes

Make a video about naruto and the theme of the cycle of hatred
Yeah kei is a she
Bro, the artist you pointed at 0:46 isn't Kei Urana. It's Hideyoshi Andou, the graffiti artist. Kei Urana is the girl at his side with red hair.
Thank you for the correction, I’ll add a note in post. My bad
