Yes, my elder brother is my mum's favorite, she never hide it and very quick to tell everyone including us children. She loves us so much, so to my baby brother and I we are not bothered because of the amount of love we receive from her. When I was about 9, we were just chatting as mum and daughter and she explained some of her reasons for that special love for my brother, one of the reasons was that she is an only child, waited almost 40 to have him and both almost didn't make it, when she was telling me at one point she was sobbing, she said he is her life. She really didn't want to try again with me but when she had me she was happy that at least my brother will not be lonely as she was growing up. She had a miracle baby out of nowhere, my brother! She insisted my brother he is her Sunshine's and paved the way for us. I couldn't begrudge her for that.

Parents with multiple children DO have favorites. It's the guilt of acknowledging it that makes most parents feel uncomfortable, judged, or not good parents if they admit their truth. Because they may feel that some truths aren't meant to be spoken. Having a favorite doesn't mean having one that you love the most. If the favoritism is obvious where it gets called out by the kid(s) then parents should check themselves and reevaluate their parenting. Having a favorite doesn't mean you love one more, it may simply mean you understand one more. But every child needs to be somebody's favorite! I wasn't the favorite to my parents but my grandparents favorited me more. Btw, Loni's right: it does make you stronger when you're not the favorite.

But there is one that you feel a different connection with, it happens with everything, (friends, parents, pets, coworkers, significant others). So it would only make sense to feel it with children too and that doesn’t necessarily make you a bad parent. It just means you have different bonds with each child and one may be stronger.

No parents should have a favorite. That is just my seeing and believing. It can damage the one that is not the favorite especially if you look up to your parents and realize you are not the or a favorite child. Just mess with you mind and thinking.

M. Alexa i don’t think you have to demonstrate different parenting or love to your kids. But there is one that you feel a different connection with, it happens with everything, (friends, parents, pets, coworkers, significant others). So it would only make sense to feel it with children too and that doesn’t necessarily make you a bad parent. It just means you have different bonds with each child and one may be stronger.

I’m my grandma’s favorite 😇 she’s said it out loud multiple times, always tells people. And I love it . My mom on the other hand refuses to say who’s her favorite. But she SPOILS my brother. Which I love how loni says it makes you independent. And it really does. Because I’m the independent go getter and my brother is the opposite

I think this answer varies by person... no two people are the same, therefore, no two parents are the same... I've never been the type to pick favorites, period. I don't have a favorite child (out of 6) nor do I have a favorite sibling (out of 8). Some people do and some people don't... everyone's different IMO

For a while I was my stepdads favorite, and he has two kids of his own. I’m my dads favorite too. It was just me and my mom for 12 years and then she had my little sister. From how she treats her I don’t think I was ever an option let alone favorite lol

I think as children your favorite is whoever is behaving best, but once your kids are adults it’s all personality based. My mom loves us all equally but her and I’s personalities click and we get along the most 🤷🏾♀️
I think all parents love their children the same and that all children love their parents equally. Idk if I should say there is a "favorite child or parent" per say but as an adult now I've come to understand that there are just some children or parents you connect with better. And then their are some children or parents that absolutely challenge you to your core lol. But the love is still there.
