And with Odyssey being the only other new adventure on the Switch, and it being my favorite 3D game of the bunch, I been craving for another new Mario adventure that wasn’t a port of a Wii U game. And I totally got it with Super Mario Bros Wonder. Is it one of my favorite Mario games of all time yet? I can’t say just that since I’m only on the 2nd world. I found the difficulty too easy but that might just be because I've beaten every other 2D Mario game a ton of times, the only really challenge is the final final level but only because they force you to go long between checkpoints. Side note this is going to be an amazing addition to Super Mario Maker 3's style choices.
@@EmperorPenguin1217 it's the last section that got me with the clouds, I don't want to give anything away I just wanted to pull my hair out but thankfully I'm bald.
I don't know what to think about the "online" mode. At first my thoughts were that, while it was pretty cool to see other people running around, it could get confusing and I'd find myself more likely to run into enemies (especially while high on the Wonder drug). On the other hand, I have seen people place standees right under a very hard to find hidden block that served to release a required item which was key to completing the level. Of course, on top of that, if you die you can use their standees for revival, and same if you happen to touch their character. So, it's not all bad. It's... interesting. I haven't turned it off yet.
This game was so overhyped for no reason, I feel like people forgot this game existed faster than the NSMB series, and still say this game is better. And tbh, having a full fleshed out 2D mario is nice, but this game does the bare minumum to make it look ground breaking.
This game for someone who likes to 100% complete things is going to be really good :-) or frustrating. Still the best 2d Mario game ever. I never completed the last one it felt stale. Hopefully I'll complete this one!
Hm, my experience has been a little different. I actually really liked the badge system and was swapping between different badges fairly often, especially the ones that affect your jumps. I also super enjoyed the online mode and left it on the whole time. I like making little mini alliances in some levels, saving each other and helping people find hidden things in the level. I also was not bothered by the stage designs or backgrounds but maybe that's because of how extradorinarily then wonder effect changes them. I also didn't find the game very difficult; the fiive star difficulty stges could be a decent challenge but *nothing* like champion's road for 3D world or even some of the late game 2D sections in Odyssey. I think the only things I didnt really like were that there were only a few boss battles, and the design of elephant Mario. Seriously, the other powerups were strange but kinda cool looking, but somethig about Mario turning into an anthromorphic elephant is weird in a different, more goofy and unsettling kind of way. I'd rather it had been a suit.
My thoughts exactly. Game was too easy and it was weird that Mario turns into a literal elephant when that’s never been the design ethos for animal based power ups EVER. Great game overall but I can’t buy that this guy found it harder than any previous 2D Mario, especially with badges and the online players being a huge help. Star coins in particular were far more challenging than any purple coin.
A well crafted game, been a fan since the NES. This game is just amazing to play and look at. I do enjoy and love the 3d Mario games, but the 2d games are my favourite. I sure hope they do more in this style.
Really well done, looks great. The Wonder Flower stuff alone is enough to take the game up a level. The Wonder Flower just gives them license to do whatever and be more creative. Like the one that turns it into a top down view. That was really cool. I'm quite a bit in, but not too far and I've already seen at least a couple of recycled Wonder Flower mechanics. I hope as I go deeper they will really start pulling out some wild and interesting stuff.
I’m really enjoying it, there are so many things, like being able to go to the backgrounds, that are so cool, I’ve described it as comfortably familiar yet different. Very pleased.
I really enjoy what they've done with the coop, makes you feel less alone, like the coop in death stranding, you're the one playing but you know that there are other people there that could help you. A traditional multiplayer would have been a cool option for local coop or private online play, but imagine having collisions with randoms, they would ruin you, it's definitely better this way.
The boss battles in this game are at a lower point in the overall design of the game. Visually it looks amazing, but it lacks great boss fights outside the final one.
I feel that people that say 2D Mario has gotten stale never grew up with it. I remember when the first Mario came out and I’ve never got sick of it. Same with all of my friends. It’s simple and that’s what it’s suppose to be. The 3D Mario doesn’t have the same punch a normal jumping puzzle Mario Bros has
I got it after work yesterday. It's pretty good so far! I'm on the fence when it comes to 2d vs 3d mario games. I just seem to enjoy them all. Now if they make a new super mario 2 that would be ridiculous.
I'm not a fan of how every time you either stomp or kill an enemy or collect a power up, it says "GOOD". Does Nintendo think we're a bunch of babies that need constant affirmation? So annoying.
I haven’t been a gamer in over a decade. Last console was PS2. But I watched a RUclips about The making of Super Mario World. That whole design team are just amazing. So I got the bug and found out about this game. It does not disappoint.
I wouldn’t say Mario Maker is Better than wonder. I haven’t finished Wonder yet to formulate my own opinion, but so far, I would say Wonder is better than Maker.
@@JoKoKilla what do you mean all it needs? An unlimited amount of creative levels that are far more creative than anything Nintendo has officially released… what more could you want lol
This is/was an amazing purchase! Personally I’m having more fun with this than I did w SMO. And it’s easily the most fun and smiles I’ve had since I played SMW when I was 10 years old! The charm, the humor, the enjoyment and the unpredictably of the wonder flowers keeps it so fresh!! Also without spoilers there are some super tough levels hiding in this game too. Excited to play more after I finish work today. Really really really nice to see Mario be creative again! And hopefully this is sign of what’s to come for the future of Paper Mario as well. 😊😊
The game has been pretty fun so far. The only thing that I'm not a fan of is turning into an elephant. i agree with you about the "badges" as well. The online gameplay is a bit weird & unnecessary the way they set it up. I didn't really get into that too much because i didn't realized there was an option to do it while you are already playing. I actually laughed when you mentioned the fact that we used to have to START OVER when we ran out of lives back in the day on the original Mario Bros. game.
I really enjoy this game. I am curious to see what they'll take from this game and put in the next Super Mario movie. They could be VERY creative with the use of the Wonder Seed!
I bought this the same day I bought Sonic Superstars. I honestly cannot decide which one I like more. What I can say about Super Mario Bros. Wonder is that it is great, but not a big jump from what we’ve seen before. To test it out, I played a few levels of Wonder and then played a few levels of New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe. Honestly, I think there are a lot of similarities. They both look beautiful, they play well. Both games are fun. But it isn’t really that different, to me. I loved New Super Mario Bros. U. I thought it did a lot of things right and never deserved the backlash it got. Super Mario Bros. Wonder seems like it’s cut from the same cloth. Not a bad thing, at all. But I can’t help notice people fawn over this and say it’s a sure contender for Game of the Year while dogging New Super Bros. U. We’re talking about very similar games, here; at least to my eyes.
This feels like the Odyssey of the2D games. A game that revitalizes and revolutionized what we've learned to expect from the mid 20s red plumbers. But is this better than the Grinch?
It was kinda short. A lot of the levels were way too easy, but also some were so hard I skipped them lol. What it did, it did well, but if I'm being honest with myself it wasn't worth 60 bucks
This is not just the best classic Mario game of all time, it's actually the best 2D game of all time. I love how alive the game is and also Mario and friends have so much character while the music goes well with it all especially the interactions throughout the game.
@@yungsamus6662 lol the best is going to differ from person to person. Super Metroid is too easy and so is SMB Wonder, not enjoyable at all. Those are little kids games lmao
I'm with you on the 2D vs 3D Mario games - I also get much more excited about 3D Mario games. That is probably partly due to how few have been released. But I think it's mainly because the best Mario game of all time to me is still Super Mario 64... I've been waiting nearly 27 years for Nintendo to release a better 3D Mario than SM64...
Grew up with Mario in the 80's. However did love Mario 3d World. Odyssey somehwat less but still good. But to me 2d is where Mario shines. Played the entire game with my 3 sons. We had such a blast. Bit chaotic with 4 players...but also loads of fun. This game is just soo good. To me it's not only the new stuff...but they just perfected what was already there. The mechanics are just soo butterly smooth. People take it for granted, but one should play a lesser game to fully appreciate how spot on the controls of Mario are. The visual style was just super good, especially if you start looking at the details. Mario grabs his head when he enters a pipe, the motion details, the facial expressions. Then we got the level design, which was just very well thought out. For every category of player there's something. From super easy to (especially the levels of the special world when you finished the game) can be tough as nails. The colour pallet screams Nintendo, which I always appreciate in this time of post apocalyptic and grey sceneries that plague nowadays games. It's just such a happy game. Collecting everything gives a high replayability. Combined with all the playable characters and option to play with 4 people... You can even piggyback your young kids with Yoshi to get them across tougher sections of levels. Brilliant. It's all just ...top of the shelf. Can't recommend it enough. Sure I do get people who feel it's to some degree just more of the same in a new jacket. But when you're playing games for 30 to 40 years on end (like myself) it's only logical you've seen it all and inevitable some fatigue kicks in. Been there, seen it, done it. But you also have to see it from a kids perspective who don't have 30 to 40 years of experience. To them it's all new and a fantastic adventure. It won't get much better than this. So i even would go as far as saying that to them, the current youth, this game will be what Mario 2, 3 and Super Mario world was to us 80's and 90's kids. A fantastic game they will think of fondly when they're older.
@@HeroC14 lol plus why is he talking for his son? If his son is old enough to play it the boy can talk for himself. I grew up playing Mario 2d games in the 80s and 90s so I'm obviously an adult and I'm loving the game. Nothing weird with adults liking this game man. Let your wife's son speak for himself smh
I finally bought a Switch last week after putting off buying one for a few years now. Seeing the trailer for this game hooked me in. It came down to this, Breath of the Wild, or Smash for my first title purchase on the Switch. Wonder just hits that nostalgic Super Mario World button. The game so far is absolutely brilliant. The background stage usage blew my mind, i wasn't expecting them to use them when going into the tunnels. The new power ups are insane and innovative.
Do Nintendo realized that is a game FOR KIDS sure you can play it as an adult buy you are Not Nintendo target if you want hard difficult just try a Mature game or you only try Peppa pig?
I would still like to see one of the things you mentioned a while ago, a Mariovania where Mario gets abilities and maybe even levels up as you go through a huge Bowser's Castle
This game is really beautifully done. I do find that it's pretty easy after playing Mario Maker for years. Even the levels with a 4 star difficulty are hard to die on and are comparable to normal difficulty on Mario Maker 2. I guess thinking back, Mario 3 and Super Mario World are both really easy as well and I love to go back and play through those.
I don't really get why people are praising the art style. I've watched 5 or 6 video reviews, and I can only see New Super Mario Bros Wii U with a few new colors and enemies.
Reasons this game should be held up, besides it being an amazing game. RGT sounded exhausted talking about this game. -Triple A game with no bug discussion on release -No monetization -On-Line is fun, and amazing. Playing with randoms is great fun. This should become a staple, there is a knock effect, when running into people. He said he only played 5-6 hours lol - Nintendo is the king of adding, and reinventing the same systems to make the game fresh. Music isn't great though. These simple things are missing from a lot of triple A games, and should be rewarded, and applaud.

as long as you sheep don't demand more keep eating
@@aiac5108Wii could not run wonder.
I found the difficulty too easy but that might just be because I've beaten every other 2D Mario game a ton of times, the only really challenge is the final final level but only because they force you to go long between checkpoints.
Side note this is going to be an amazing addition to Super Mario Maker 3's style choices.
Honestly the final final level was really easy for some reason
It’s very easy for sure but at least there is a lot of stuff to do in the games.

A 10/10 = 1. Why you giving this game a 1?
@@HeroC14 lol I heard that joke before
I don't know what to think about the "online" mode.
I’ve read a lot of reviews on wonder- but it’s nice to get the opinion of a Nintendo RUclipsr on the game!
Wow, going into the background, similar to what Kirby planet robobot did years ago!
@@michaelmeyer4682 and Paper Mario on the Wii.
@@michaelmeyer4682bro can not let people enjoy Wonder without getting mad
Oh wow. You again. I've always loved smb2 myself but considering the history of smb2 I don't see that happening.
I'm not a fan of how every time you either stomp or kill an enemy or collect a power up, it says "GOOD". Does Nintendo think we're a bunch of babies that need constant affirmation? So annoying.
It's the combo system.
2D > 3D I know Im suprised as well.

RGT85 : Have You Noticed That This Game Has No Time Limit 😮😮
🤯🤯🤯
I haven’t been a gamer in over a decade. Last console was PS2. But I watched a RUclips about The making of Super Mario World. That whole design team are just amazing. So I got the bug and found out about this game. It does not disappoint.
Me and the boys played all night last night! Were laughing the whole time. Great game 🎉
Just wait until the next Mario builder comes out and includes the insanity of this game. Omg that will be an f’n trip!
I really hope they make a Yoshis Island in this style. Game is fire.
Yes!!
"One of the best 2D platformers probably of all time." RGT 85.
Honestly I agree with this. Amazing game.
In defense of 2D Mario’s over the last decade; Mario Maker 1 & 2 were incredible. Had so much fun with those.
Oh yeah way better than wonder
I wouldn’t say Mario Maker is Better than wonder. I haven’t finished Wonder yet to formulate my own opinion, but so far, I would say Wonder is better than Maker.
@@JoKoKilla how, Mario maker is an unlimited amount of levels that are creative as could be lol
Is that all it needs to be superior to Wonder?
@@JoKoKilla what do you mean all it needs? An unlimited amount of creative levels that are far more creative than anything Nintendo has officially released… what more could you want lol
6:29 A dolphin kick would be useful here. Badges are there for you to use so you can get through the areas.
There's also Florians recommendations for each Level. If you feel unsure this might help

I'm enjoying wonder themed levels in super mario maker 3 😁
Having a blast so far. Haven't even started sonic yet
This feels like the Odyssey of the2D games. A game that revitalizes and revolutionized what we've learned to expect from the mid 20s red plumbers.
But is this better than the Grinch?
This game is nothing short of delightful. A complete success.
Recency bias bro
you're going way overboard on that take lmao
Slow down Jr
Nope because Super Metroid is the best 2D game of all time
@@yungsamus6662 lol the best is going to differ from person to person. Super Metroid is too easy and so is SMB Wonder, not enjoyable at all. Those are little kids games lmao
Lmao I love the talking flowers literally the best part
this game was TOO easy
If it was hard you would be the first pussc in the comments saying mario games shouldn’t be hard. Pick a side already
I highly recommend LSD. Saved my life
Grew up with Mario in the 80's.
My son is loving it
Of course its a game for kids so.
What about you? Your son can talk for himself lol
Glad your wife's son enjoys it.
@@HeroC14 lol plus why is he talking for his son? If his son is old enough to play it the boy can talk for himself. His son is 5 and shouldn't be posting online.

I beat this game recently with my 6 yr old daughter. It was one of those full circle life moments. Great game.
Really great game so far. The whole family has been playing it and it’s just been so much fun. We’ve been having a blast playing it.
The ability to pop the game in and have fun is what makes Nintendo the best. It takes days to get good at most games in 2023.

The new power ups are insane and innovative.
mario has the most perfect run animation i've ever seen in a videogame
The only problem i have with this game is... it is too easy
Do Nintendo realized that is a game FOR KIDS sure you can play it as an adult buy you are Not Nintendo target if you want hard difficult just try a Mature game or you only try Peppa pig?
Go play Sekiro amigo.
I would still like to see one of the things you mentioned a while ago, a Mariovania where Mario gets abilities and maybe even levels up as you go through a huge Bowser's Castle
In my opinion it's one of the best Mario games ever, absolutely love it
I like the new momentum system but I don't like the running animation for characters 😢 it feels low fps. Not all animations. Just the running.

-Triple A game with no bug discussion on release
-No monetization
-On-Line is fun, and amazing. Playing with randoms is great fun. This should become a staple, there is a knock effect, when running into people. He said he only played 5-6 hours lol
- Nintendo is the king of adding, and reinventing the same systems to make the game fresh.
Music isn't great though.
These simple things are missing from a lot of triple A games, and should be rewarded, and applaud.
Loving it so far. Rather impressive in my opinion! 😁
