Absolutely not, that game is too short and Nintendo would most likely sell it for like 60 dollars and nobody would buy it for that amount of money. I mean like I wouldn't. That's why I think they should not release a remastered version of Mario 64. And that's just my opinion so don't hate :)

@@Gnidel Fun fact: Most of the level and even a lot of enemies are unlit pre-rendered 2D sprites with normal maps. Lighting is applied in real-time. This allows the game to run very efficiently and have really nice anti-aliasing while maintaining the illusion of 3D and control over how everything is lit in different environments. As for your point, they could've done that, but I honestly really like the artstyle they have now. It's very clean and refined which I like, and the backgrounds in this game are really beautiful. And you know, they had the Van Gogh inspired level. Also, I'd like to argue that if you think the artstyle of this game series lacks variation, then you should also think the same about for example the Mario Kart series and the Super Smash Bros series. I never see anybody complain about those games however, but that's because the focus of those games isn't the art, but rather the gameplay. In my opinion, the New Super Mario Bros. series of games also fit more into that category, although unlike those games, it's a single player experience. Maybe people expect more out of the art from single player games? I don't know. Either way, I think it's interesting. I also think it's interesting that people complain so much about the NSMB series of games being so same-y, yet it's still one of the best-selling series' of games on Nintendo's consoles. If most people felt that they were just buying the same game over and over again, wouldn't they stop buying them?

Not saying this is the case for you specifically.. but for me, it's hard to replicate the magic of games you played as a kid. That's more due to the nostalgia factor than a difference in game quality.
all mario games are overrated, when there are gems like ori and the blind forest, hollow knight, shantae, etc mario games are disgustingly boring and bland
I’m quite excited to play this game soon. I know it’s simple, plain ol’ 2D Mario, but I’m excited to play as all the different characters in singleplayer, play with friends, get all the star coins and secret collectables, and just make the most of it. I absolutely loved NSMBWii back in the day and it’ll probably be a pretty nostalgic experience for me going into the game.
There are only handful of NSMB games: The first game on the DS, NSMB2 on the 3ds, NSMB Wii and NSMB U. There are some differences between those games, but anyways they're spread across different consoles so people who don't buy every Nintendo console can play a NSMB game. The first three Sonic games were all on the same console and were quite similar but with different levels and a few additions like spin charge, but people wouldn't say that if you played one 2d Sonic game, you've played them all.

The "new" mario games overworld's,caves and castles ALL look the same and feel the same, have the same enemies and also same mechanics most of the time...even most bosses are reused. yeah, the levels could be good designed, but even so, the aesthetics are important, and like the video said they are bland. You don't have to change how mario controls or any of that, the levels need more work... I completely understand your perspective, but for me it was exactly what I wanted. I’m someone who enjoys the more innovative MARIO games like Odyssey but I also love to have a classic style 2d mario game to play, so when I got my Switch this was one of the first games I was hoping would be ported. The NSMB series seems to have been intentionally simplistic in its style and gameplay, but for some people that’s exactly what we want. I will agree however that 60 dollars is too much for the game, but at the same time I don’t blame Nintendo for the price because it would have been stupid from a business perspective to price it any lower considering all previous WiiU ports were 60 dollars and sold very well.
This! I was born in 1984 and grew up with Mario 1-3 on the NES. I love the Mario 64 through Odyssey 3D games as well, but there is something nostalgic about this game. It reminds me a lot of a modern Mario 3. I just bought it yesterday for Mar10 Day on sale for $40 and have gotten through the first two worlds. So far, no regrets. I do understand what he means in the video though. To each their own.

Also TTYD is lot more creative and different than any NSMB and modern Paper Mario game(Sticker Star, Color Splash, and Origami King). So a new actual sequel of Paper Mario that captures the spirit of Paper Mario 64 and TTYD would be refreshing.

I love that there are characters that make the game easier for my little sister who is absolute trash and needs to be carried but she loves it. Super mario bros u was rushed out along with the Wiiu console launch back in the day, just to sell the console. It was never really deep. Definitly not worth the 60$ price tag. more like 15$
Yeah the only new thing is Toadette, and yeah thats it. The game IS bundled with New Super Luigi U, but so was the Wii U game for some time. If they maybe changed the level designed, added more characters, and fixed problems in the past games, then this game would deserve its 60$
You can get a used wiiu now at gamestop used for 135 or even cheaper on ebay. Basically play all those wiiu ports on the wiiu without having to pay the premium for it being on the switch.

Or the Bowser-ified Peach's Castle, or the baby Yoshis singing or the super neat swktch puzzles in Rock Candy Mines or the big acorn tree on the overworld, or the big Sumo Bro boss, or getting to propeller slam Bowser with the clown car, or the airship level with the big roblt arm breaking all the blocks, or the beanstalk level, or the fact that they even blthered with new music instead of recycling literally all of it like a certain piss colored game? And the acorn suit is actually really cool, and is the best flight powerup since the cape. Nintendo needs to make a Mario along the lines of Super Mario for SNES. I feel that is the best template for side scrolling Mario. I felt that Mario Bros U was lacking options of game play the worlds were short, not enough Yoshi and honestly kinda hectic with multiple people playing at the same time. I do like Nintendo's "we wont make the same game twice "and its nice to see the evolution and varied games form the series but they need to not reinvent the wheel every time. this is why Sunshine and Odyssey were great they built on the foundation of 64 adding new mechanics but had the same grounding. But the 2d Marios while they yeah feel similar run jump grab items falls short on the variety of stages and elements that Super Mario SNES had. I did like 3d land form what i remember with it though.

I tried this game on the Wii U and I came to the same conclusion as you. If you've played any 2D Mario game, you've already played this. It feels like a copy paste of NSMB Wii, and it lacks personality, specially for using the same artstyle for 5 games now, including Mario maker
You know the game is more fun with friends. You are playing this on your own so you should not complain. It is known as the sleepover maker because your friends want 2 stay and sleep and play.

@G4L Rambling I rented Mario kart on the wiiu but I never owned it but now I have it on the switch. Mario kart is always fun to play with friends. I agree that the other wiiu ports are not worth spending the money on especially pokken tournament.

I may get some hate for this but in some ways I enjoy this port more then I do Odyssey. Maybe it's the nostalgic factor and I'm not disagreeing with anyone's opinion about it being the same as the rest. I just genuinely like the 2d more
Played it on Wii-U. Thought it was exactly what it should be. Nothing exceptional. Just plain, old, ordinary, mario fun like the title implied. I thought Luigi U was better though. It really upped the ante on the difficulty scale, which Mario-U needed more of.
Both games are fun that's for sure. I own them on the Wii U as well. I think the real problem is that Nintendo didn't make a new game an instead just did another Wii U port. Pretty soon all of the Wii U's games will have been ported to the switch. I feel like Nintendo has just gotten lazy now a days.

I am grateful I was able to play this gem finally on my Switch. Odyssey is definitely more of a new 3D platform formula with more things to do to keep you entertained, but this game is by no means bland. It keeps the original Super Mario Bros formula and gameplay from the NES and SNES that we all grew up to love. I really thought this was a clickbait lol!
LOVED SMBU on the Wii U in 2012. It was a brilliant update on nostalgia for me. Introduced my kids and their cousins to couch console gaming. But It's 2019 now. It's way overpriced. It should be £15 max.
I'm personally having a ton of fun with this game. Didn't play the original, and I know a lot of other folks didn't either - in fact if the metrics are to be believed, the opening weekend sales of the Switch version have already topped the opening weekend sales of the Wii U version by 50%+, so I think a lot of other gamers are having fun too besides myself
Yes the game at the Wii U launch date was indeed $60 .... the only difference is that New Super Luigi U did not exist, in which the Deluxe copy does have.

Yeah, if Hollow Knight and Celeste are in the $15-20 range, then NSMBU Deluxe should probably be around $5-10 new. Those two are FAR superior games that actually have their own identity.

I think a part of it is definitly in the fact they've been using this exact aesthetic for the past 4 or so "Super Mario Bros" entries, ever since the one way back on original DS where all that's changed is the technical resolution polish and such detail. Even way back on the NES of all places, the aesthetics always changed with an entry. Now we're just at a point where we "know" what Mario looks like, and they're putting out the most bland representation of him in a very polished (almost too polished) HD. So it not only plays like just another 2D mario game, but it doesn't do anything beyond just being the arbitrary 2D switch Mario. 3D Mario still takes us by surprise not only because they do keep changing the aesthetics (remember the reveal of New Donk city, or just bumping into a freakin' lightning dragon in grim dark castle land?), but the 3D space itself also inspires more crazy design choices that catch our eye. They're just not doing that anymore with 2D mario.
1. You can't use the early games as an example: back then, improvements in graphics were way more pronounced, so it actually made sense to throw away the old art style. 2. Knowing what Mario looks like is a good thing in the minds of some people. Just ask Sonic's naysayers. 3. "plays like just another 2D mario game" Hold on a minute, I thought you were talking about visuals, not gameplay? 4. But Mario still looks the same as he always does in Odyssey. So this raises the question: do people actually want Mario's appearance to change, or do they want his _environment_ to change?

(Aesthetics is an important word here, being a combination of the visuals, feeling, tone, etc). But even outside of the NES, most of the time they did something to create a difference in the general tone or notion of a Mario game. Sure, improving hardware definitely had a factor in that, but not the only factor, and we've seen this well with Mario's history. Its just that for whatever reason, the "new" 2D SMB doesn't wish to go by those same standards. 2. I don't think you read the full thing. In no way am I saying to go against what we know Mario to be or look like (but Nintendo has done that anyway. Frog/tenuki/ghost/bee/super giant mario, and the worlds get even weirder to entire rule redefining. It hasn't hurt before). I'll try to say this again: We know what what Mario and the games look like, but Nintendo is only content to bring out the most bland form of this representation within the New Super Mario Bros series. 3. I never said I was exclusively talking about the visuals, my key word was aesthetics (which is part graphics, but more than that), and that does actually factor into gameplay "feeling". But even if visuals-only were the case, read the full sentence. "Not only does" comes before that quoted bit. I'm not knocking the gameplay on its own, I'm saying that any feeling of "it's the same thing" becomes more obvious when the aesthetics are the same thing. 4. I don't see how you got the impression of how I'm exclusively talking about mario by himself as a person when I'm discussing game aesthetics (mario as the game), and even go on to use Oddyssy as a good example of being different by the world itself. ...and even if I were to just talk about Mario on his own, he actually does look different there. Nothing drastic to his whole style, but the whole game's point is to change him up from his hat, to other creatures that you use, and on top of that there's full player cosmetics. But yes, I do want to see the "environment" or aesthetics around it change. That was the entire point of what I was saying. The aesthetics, the world, the feeling of it, and because Mario is a part of it he probably will change with the game. That's the way many of the best work. These "New" SMB are being passed as "bland" because the refuse to do anything but arguably the barebones from the original DS release.

I bought the deluxe one and I completely regret it. I played too much NSMB that when I got the wii u version I never got past world 2. I knew we were getting scammed with the deluxe version but I bought it after a very long time of arguing with my self. It’s like paying full price for Super Mario World *(which to be honest I would rather)*

Eh played it on wiiu and decided to skip this one. After playing something like super mario odyssey and then going to something new super mario bros u deluxe (yes I know completely different games with regards to gameplay) it just feels like a massive letdown. Dont get me wrong i liked the new super mario series but i feel the wiiu one was the weakest of the 4. I dont know i think its time Nintendo maybe dropped the new super mario bros series and try something else with regards to 2d mario games. It just feels like they’re recycling content with it at this point Edit: I forgot new super mario bros 2 existed that’s easily the worst one.

I think that playing this game solo is missing the point. 3D Mario is supposed to be the solo experience, but New Super Mario Bros Wii and Wii U (Deluxe) are all about the couch play. Having 4 players running around and killing each other is a riot.
This would be a perfect $30 purchase and every Switch owner would probably have it on their system if they sold if for that. $60 is ridiculously off-putting.
The fact that this costs as much as Odyssey is absurd. Only Nintendo has the nerve to remaster one of their old games and sell it at full price. Even Activision has the decency to pack in three games for remasters like Spyro and Crash Bandicoot, and they gave those games a a huge graphical overhaul on top of all that.

technically, you're getting 2 new characters and both NSMBU and NSLBU for that price.
Also if they have multiple full games with DLC like bioshock I would say $60 is justified.

The first three Sonic games were all on the same console and were quite similar but with different levels and a few additions like spin charge, but people wouldn't say that if you played one 2d Sonic game, you've played them all.

The "new" mario games overworld's,caves and castles ALL look the same and feel the same, have the same enemies and also same mechanics most of the time...even most bosses are reused. yeah, the levels could be good designed, but even so, the aesthetics are important, and like the video said they are bland.
You don't have to change how mario controls or any of that, the levels need more work...

I completely understand your perspective, but for me it was exactly what I wanted.
I’m someone who enjoys the more innovative MARIO games like Odyssey but I also love to have a classic style 2d mario game to play, so when I got my Switch this was one of the first games I was hoping would be ported.
The NSMB series seems to have been intentionally simplistic in its style and gameplay, but for some people that’s exactly what we want.
I will agree however that 60 dollars is too much for the game, but at the same time I don’t blame Nintendo for the price because it would have been stupid from a business perspective to price it any lower considering all previous WiiU ports were 60 dollars and sold very well.
This! I was born in 1984 and grew up with Mario 1-3 on the NES. I love the Mario 64 through Odyssey 3D games as well, but there is something nostalgic about this game. It reminds me a lot of a modern Mario 3. I just bought it yesterday for Mar10 Day on sale for $40 and have gotten through the first two worlds. So far, no regrets. I do understand what he means in the video though. To each their own.

Also TTYD is lot more creative and different than any NSMB and modern Paper Mario game(Sticker Star, Color Splash, and Origami King). So a new actual sequel of Paper Mario that captures the spirit of Paper Mario 64 and TTYD would be refreshing.

Super mario bros u was rushed out along with the Wiiu console launch back in the day, just to sell the console. It was never really deep. Definitly not worth the 60$ price tag. more like 15$

What about the Van Gogh level literally everyone remembers? Or that big ice slide shortcut? Or the weird tiki guys in Layer Cake Desert? Or the Bowser-ified Peach's Castle, or the baby Yoshis singing or the super neat swktch puzzles in Rock Candy Mines or the big acorn tree on the overworld, or the big Sumo Bro boss, or getting to propeller slam Bowser with the clown car, or the airship level with the big roblt arm breaking all the blocks, or the beanstalk level, or the fact that they even blthered with new music instead of recycling literally all of it like a certain piss colored game? And the acorn suit is actually really cool, and is the best flight powerup since the cape. Some of the challenges are really memorable too, (if you bothered to finish all of them cough cough*)

Nintendo needs to make a Mario along the lines of Super Mario for SNES. I feel that is the best template for side scrolling Mario. I felt that Mario Bros U was lacking options of game play the worlds were short, not enough Yoshi and honestly kinda hectic with multiple people playing at the same time. I do like Nintendo's "we wont make the same game twice "and its nice to see the evolution and varied games form the series but they need to not reinvent the wheel every time. this is why Sunshine and Odyssey were great they built on the foundation of 64 adding new mechanics but had the same grounding. But the 2d Marios while they yeah feel similar run jump grab items falls short on the variety of stages and elements that Super Mario SNES had. I did like 3d land form what i remember with it though.

I tried this game on the Wii U and I came to the same conclusion as you. If you've played any 2D Mario game, you've already played this. It feels like a copy paste of NSMB Wii, and it lacks personality, specially for using the same artstyle for 5 games now, including Mario maker

@G4L Rambling I rented Mario kart on the wiiu but I never owned it but now I have it on the switch. Mario kart is always fun to play with friends. I agree that the other wiiu ports are not worth spending the money on especially pokken tournament.

Played it on Wii-U. Thought it was exactly what it should be. Nothing exceptional. Just plain, old, ordinary, mario fun like the title implied. I thought Luigi U was better though. It really upped the ante on the difficulty scale, which Mario-U needed more of.
Both games are fun that's for sure. I own them on the Wii U as well. I think the real problem is that Nintendo didn't make a new game an instead just did another Wii U port. Pretty soon all of the Wii U's games will have been ported to the switch. I feel like Nintendo has just gotten lazy now a days.

Played the crap out of it on my Wii U, I loved it so much. One of the few games I completed 100% without changing to another game in between.
I am grateful I was able to play this gem finally on my Switch. Odyssey is definitely more of a new 3D platform formula with more things to do to keep you entertained, but this game is by no means bland. It keeps the original Super Mario Bros formula and gameplay from the NES and SNES that we all grew up to love. I really thought this was a clickbait lol!
LOVED SMBU on the Wii U in 2012. It was a brilliant update on nostalgia for me. Introduced my kids and their cousins to couch console gaming. But It's 2019 now. It's way overpriced. It should be £15 max.

I'm personally having a ton of fun with this game. Didn't play the original, and I know a lot of other folks didn't either - in fact if the metrics are to be believed, the opening weekend sales of the Switch version have already topped the opening weekend sales of the Wii U version by 50%+, so I think a lot of other gamers are having fun too besides myself

It's no Tropical Freeze, that's for sure...
I think a part of it is definitly in the fact they've been using this exact aesthetic for the past 4 or so "Super Mario Bros" entries, ever since the one way back on original DS where all that's changed is the technical resolution polish and such detail. Even way back on the NES of all places, the aesthetics always changed with an entry. Now we're just at a point where we "know" what Mario looks like, and they're putting out the most bland representation of him in a very polished (almost too polished) HD. So it not only plays like just another 2D mario game, but it doesn't do anything beyond just being the arbitrary 2D switch Mario. 3D Mario still takes us by surprise not only because they do keep changing the aesthetics (remember the reveal of New Donk city, or just bumping into a freakin' lightning dragon in grim dark castle land?), but the 3D space itself also inspires more crazy design choices that catch our eye. They're just not doing that anymore with 2D mario.
1. You can't use the early games as an example: back then, improvements in graphics were way more pronounced, so it actually made sense to throw away the old art style.
2. Knowing what Mario looks like is a good thing in the minds of some people. Just ask Sonic's naysayers.

4. But Mario still looks the same as he always does in Odyssey. So this raises the question: do people actually want Mario's appearance to change, or do they want his _environment_ to change?
@@benhuang2773 1. Again, I'm going way back to the NES with this point where there were 3 games, all on the same tech, all changing their aesthetics, which is the key word more than any other. (Aesthetics is an important word here, being a combination of the visuals, feeling, tone, etc). But even outside of the NES, most of the time they did something to create a difference in the general tone or notion of a Mario game. Sure, improving hardware definitely had a factor in that, but not the only factor, and we've seen this well with Mario's history. Its just that for whatever reason, the "new" 2D SMB doesn't wish to go by those same standards.
2. I don't think you read the full thing. In no way am I saying to go against what we know Mario to be or look like (but Nintendo has done that anyway. Frog/tenuki/ghost/bee/super giant mario, and the worlds get even weirder to entire rule redefining. It hasn't hurt before). I'll try to say this again: We know what what Mario and the games look like, but Nintendo is only content to bring out the most bland form of this representation within the New Super Mario Bros series.
3. I never said I was exclusively talking about the visuals, my key word was aesthetics (which is part graphics, but more than that), and that does actually factor into gameplay "feeling". But even if visuals-only were the case, read the full sentence. "Not only does" comes before that quoted bit. I'm not knocking the gameplay on its own, I'm saying that any feeling of "it's the same thing" becomes more obvious when the aesthetics are the same thing.
4. I don't see how you got the impression of how I'm exclusively talking about mario by himself as a person when I'm discussing game aesthetics (mario as the game), and even go on to use Oddyssy as a good example of being different by the world itself. ...and even if I were to just talk about Mario on his own, he actually does look different there. Nothing drastic to his whole style, but the whole game's point is to change him up from his hat, to other creatures that you use, and on top of that there's full player cosmetics. But yes, I do want to see the "environment" or aesthetics around it change. That was the entire point of what I was saying. The aesthetics, the world, the feeling of it, and because Mario is a part of it he probably will change with the game. That's the way many of the best work. These "New" SMB are being passed as "bland" because the refuse to do anything but arguably the barebones from the original DS release.

I bought this crap because I like having a variety of switch games & I'm fond of the Mario platformers. No worries though, its now in my nephew's collection.
Yeah I agree 100%. It was just meh. If I didn’t have my husband to play co op with I probably wouldn’t have even bothered to finish it. The Wii U version that is, I’m not re purchasing for my switch.
I bought the deluxe one and I completely regret it. I played too much NSMB that when I got the wii u version I never got past world 2. I knew we were getting scammed with the deluxe version but I bought it after a very long time of arguing with my self. It’s like paying full price for Super Mario World *(which to be honest I would rather)*

This is a great game, I love it! I have the WiiU version too but wanted it on my Switch.
Same I bought it on the Wii U but I wanted a portable version so I got it on my switch.
I wanted it to be 1080p on my 65" OLED. No regrets.

No way I'm paying' $60 for this game when I already have it on Wii U.
Eh played it on wiiu and decided to skip this one. After playing something like super mario odyssey and then going to something new super mario bros u deluxe (yes I know completely different games with regards to gameplay) it just feels like a massive letdown. Dont get me wrong i liked the new super mario series but i feel the wiiu one was the weakest of the 4. I dont know i think its time Nintendo maybe dropped the new super mario bros series and try something else with regards to 2d mario games. It just feels like they’re recycling content with it at this point
Edit: I forgot new super mario bros 2 existed that’s easily the worst one.

I never played it before and I like it a lot. I’m old school though lol I think the basic nature of the power ups is a positive because they’ve gotten a bit gimmicky and op.
Well if you've never played it before, you probably will enjoy it but most of us have and moved on.

I think that playing this game solo is missing the point. 3D Mario is supposed to be the solo experience, but New Super Mario Bros Wii and Wii U (Deluxe) are all about the couch play. Having 4 players running around and killing each other is a riot.

The fact that this costs as much as Odyssey is absurd. Only Nintendo has the nerve to remaster one of their old games and sell it at full price. Even Activision has the decency to pack in three games for remasters like Spyro and Crash Bandicoot, and they gave those games a a huge graphical overhaul on top of all that.
$79 (in Canada) plus tax for a 5 year old port. No thanks.
