This 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing feeds 668HP through a 6-speed Tremec manual transmission to the rear wheels, will blast you to 60MPH in 3.6 seconds, and can do slides like a prepped Formula Drift car. Its magnetic ride suspension offers some of the best body control in the business, and even fully loaded at over $108,000, still represents an extraordinary value.
Cadillac provided the vehicle, insurance, and a tank of fuel for this review.

I really hope this exceeds sales expectations. We need more V8 sedans in the world
I hope the same but really doubt it. If the SS that was such a bargain didn't make it, I don't have high expectations for this one
It won't, the hellcat/392 chargers are selling like hotcakes but they're still getting the axe in 2023 due to the crazy taxes stellantis pays on each one sold. Yet stupid gas guzzling trucks and SUVs dont even get hit with gas guzzling tax at purchase.
@@Lowe376slow judging by the fact that I can’t get an allocation, I feel like it’ll sell.
@@somefatdad185 didn't say they wouldn't sale im saying they won't sell well enough to keep them around. You cant get an allocation because they can't make any just like every other car right now.
@@Lowe376slow but I have a CT4 Blackwing ;) might be a bit of both
My dad just got his Blackwing about a month ago. 6 speed, too. It’s honestly insane. Never in my life experienced something so eager to spin it’s rear tires. Can’t wait til the Spring so it’s actually driveable
R.P. .................your dad must be a cool Boomer ???? from a Boomer !
If it doesn't hook up, that could be a problem. I have a 2019 MB C63S and I can spin the tire pretty easily as well, but it does need to be usable in all weather. My Merc does a decent job of controlling the wheel spin, but with that much horse power and RW drive, it just wants to let go. I would have preferred 4WD with manual given my weather situation, but I'm excited about this car as the manual option for it is epic.
@@dannycalley7777 He's also got a 6 speed Cayenne GTS and a lifted Jeep. Yeah he's a pretty cool boomer haha
I have one and the deal with the PTM is that you can select how much wheelspin you want. It manages wheelspin but not in an intrusive way. I would not drive my Blackwing in the snow, that's just asking for it. @@c4a5m3
I never would have imagined Cadillac would have one of the best v8 manuals on the market.
It makes me happy and makes me wish I was rich
Can't wait to get mine!! Long live the manuals, never bought a car without one.
Congrats hope you like it. Ive never owned or driven one but i like them more then the competition
Me too and me as well
Welcome to the land of no depreciation...
@@joeleonard9965 Made money on my E39 M5 and S2000, and only lost $2k on my manual E90 M3. All after several years of daily driving. Am surely up on my Elise too!
@@derekjensen3835 Damn man those are some nice vehicles you have owned. Especially the E39 M5.
So this is basically a Hellcat Charger with a proper transmission if it wore a suit and wasn't illiterate. I'll take 10.
So this is where the much rumored Alpha Platform 4 Door version of the Camaro (ZL1) ended up as. See GM can make a Alpha Platform V8 powered manual transmission car that you can actually see out of. How about when GM converts the entire Caddy line up to EV that they rebadge this masterpiece as a Chevy and name it the "Chevelle SS" . Please GM please! There are enough of a Baby Boomer market to support it . Look at the Dodge Hellcat Charger FCA has noooo problem selling those things and the CT5-V Blackwing handles way better than the 20 year old Mercedes-Benz S-Class based LX platformed chassis.
@@colinw7205 And replace the Camaro with a "Nova" or something classic like that, we can only hope
I was super impressed with the last cts-v. I wish I had it in the budget for one of these, because I think Matt is right, the manual will hold its value real well.
Great intro! I like it very much and frames the video well, and then gives anticipation throughout. I’d like to see the “these are the questions we have” intros and see that carry through. I am also interested in seeing the cars compared to competitors, like “this is softer than x but sportier than y” and answering “who is this car for” (though you do a great job already with the latter two points.
Not really the point of a "One Take".
Pobst already lapped this car at Big Willow, and its faster on track than the BMW M5 CS. Its also 60k cheaper than a optioned CS, and rules this category of super sedans. GM is on a roll, and their portfolio of upcoming EVs puts Tesla to shame. I cannot wait to see how the Z06 lap times compare to other super cars.
I think Tesla should be proud of what's it's done with the electric car industry. Not ashamed. My 2015 model s has served me well. I am concerned about quality control for the newer cars and customer service. Ironically, I'm over the electric car and am moving on to a CTS V blackwing as my daily driver
@@weightliftingdoktor I too think Tesla should be proud. They made the EV desirable when nobody else could. Now they make low quality cars at high prices but they've successfully turned customers and the OEMs towards EVs and that's to be celebrated.
The fact that a Plaid costs as much as a CT5-V BW AND a CT4-V BW...well, they're really different audiences for the most part (people into driving dynamics vs. a group of people who dream of an iPad on wheels and only have heard of 0-60 numbers as some sort of proxy for performance and engagement.)
I would've never guessed this thing beats out an M5 CS on track. That's incredibly impressive
@@The1MkII
The V2 & V3 used to whoop the M5
Idk where ppl got the idea that the M5
Was the best sports Sedan. Never was
I dont believe that vid just good old murican pr
My dad got one this past year, triple black with a 6 spd manual. And the folks at cadillac nailed it. Comfortable, fast, feels and drives great. Best RWD manual sedan ever made by a wide margin. Good job cadillac.
The alpha chassis by GM is truly an amazing chassis all the way from the ATS to now with the Blackwings it’s fantastic! Coming from an ATS owner, it’s a wonderful chassis!
Yea I love my 17 camaro ss
As a lifelong BMW owner (a couple of M3’s and a 5 series) I’m STRONGLY considering this car. You guys hit the nail on the head with so many points. The manual being the #1 option followed closely by overall feel from the inputs. Fuel mileage being my own personal hesitation. Yes the new M3 tics those boxes, but I don’t find it good looking at all and the value this will hold isn’t even comparable. I would probably buy an M5 IF a manual was available. I’m just super familiar with all things BMW.
Now to show the wife (who drives the 535i manual daily) that it’s OK to own a Cadillac. 😂 She of the mindset they are old people’s cars. See how marketing has impacted a brand.
You're worried about gas mileage?! You're in the wrong segment and price bracket for that
@@heyhayhay247 if it's gonna be your daily, the gas mileage is a pretty valid concern. Especially if it's mostly city driving. 8-10 mpg in the city every day adds up quick. Even if you can afford it, blowing that much fuel and filling up constantly is not a "luxury" experience in 2022, especially with all the EV and PHEV luxury options on the market. That being said, no EV or PHEV sounds or drives like this does, so it might be a worthy tradeoff.
@@pan4632 I daily an E60 M5, and it doesn't bother me one bit. The sound is worth it drop of fuel.
If you're really concerned about fuel economy get the A10 and you'll get around 14mpg in the city.
Mileage is a concern, partly because this car has a smallish tank and it's just inconvenient to fill up every 250 miles. However, my experience with GM V8 manuals (Corvette and Camaro) is that you can get ok mileage if you keep your foot out of it and keep RPMs down.
Well, I am happy that Matt had positive comments for V series car! Really solid review. These cars are freaking amazing…they handle so incredibly well and the power is sick!
My question is… why won’t GM make a more affordable car like this? The V1’s and V2’s were pretty affordable for most people, then the V3’s really jumped in price, and now this beauty. But, why can’t we have a cheaper Buick or Chevy version? The SS sold out and the values have skyrocketed. The Charger (chassis) has been basically unchanged since 2004(?), yet they still sell like hotcakes. Make an affordable V8 RWD sedan/wagon on the Alpha chassis already, GM!
They won't because not enough people want them. They want CUVs instead and for the price of a V8 alpha platform Buick or Chevy people will opt for Teslas instead. Sedans are all but dead. Only growth sedans will be EVs that share a platform with an EV CUV.
we need a chevy ss again
I always wanted a RWD, LT/LS powered, manual, about the size of a bmw 1/2 series.
100K is affordable? Ok then
@@scw87281 No we do not need that pos again.
4door Manual ZL1-1LE with magnetic Shocks.
Sounds like a very Special Car !
Can’t wait for the CT4V Blackwing review! Smaller footprint that reminds me of an older M car.
I just got my CT4 V last week and have already logged about 350 miles. If this car had the LS V8, it would be in the running for greatest sports sedan of all time. As it is, this twin turbo V6 is pretty good. All in all, it is an excellent sports sedan and probably in the running for best car you can purchase today.
Commenting mostly just to add engagement. Love this car. I'm working on figuring out how to own one. The price is more than I should spend, but I expect it to hold it's value, meaning cost of ownership will be (a lot of) fuel and tires.
I have one with a manual trans and carbon-ceramic brakes. It's amazing. I looked hard at Zee Germans, and no one offers a manual gearbox and for me, that's a deal-breaker.
And let alone you get a chunky ass tremec sweat not one shift
Aren't all the German competition also much more expensive?
You still got it? I've got a 2010 Accord Coupe V6 6mt. It's a little baby compared to a CT5V Blackwing 😂
@@NoBaconForYou I still have it. I'm on my third pair of back tires. The Accord is a nice car.
Such an exciting car. This will hold up as ‘special’ for long after the general stops production.
After watching Camissas review I went and priced one out on the configurator. It is awesome.
I want one of these so bad, but at this point in my life I can't afford one. Such a shame.
The intro is a really good addition to the format. Keep it up!
Couldn’t stop giggling in delight at that first launch. It just immediately lights em up. Love it.
I have never wanted a Cadillac as much as this car, holy shit it's so fucking good in every way
If this truly is the last we see of the over the top V-8's, this car could easily be worth $200k+ in 25 years.
Given a $106k starting price, that would only be 2% increase per year. That is basically just keeping up with typical inflation.
@@Whackasmack Keeping up with inlfation is actually more than amazing, most cars within this range lose value the moment you buy them. Granted there are a few exceptions
200k in todays money.
1 mil+ easy for a low mileage one
Oh course people should buy it to enjoy it rather than lock it up in a garage to speculate.
I'm pretty sure they will be going for that within 5 years of the end of production. Nearly everything will be EV at that point, so no engines, no manuals, and lots of heavy batteries. Your only option will be to buy used. And he who has a low-mileage example of the latest and greatest before the EV changeover will be able to command a pretty penny.
Last manual V8 for Cadillac, we're looking at a future classic
Dealers asking $10-15k premium on top. Simply not worth $120k. Have a CTS Vsport and everything falls apart twice the speed, GM refuses to fix major issues and dealers are a joke.
I hear Cadillac sedan constantly have issues like peeling dash trims, diffs breaking, parts hard to get etc. Is that your experience?
@@sunnyvalentino all the differentials were faulty on Vsports at least and GM slow walked the recall 3-4 year. During that time it didn’t function properly, constant codes. Dealer lied the entire time. CUE head unit screen peeled/stopped functioning and GM still never fixed. Car drives great overall, just not sure its worth the premium given the other issues and depreciation. Would love to have one at fair price. Suspension required total overhaul at 45-60k. Everything just wears quickly. Cheap if u do the work yourself
@@loopba thank-you! This is an issue with GM cars. My friend with a C8 says his dash is peeling, transmission exploded twice. Another one who had an older CTSV constantly had issues with trim and diffs. Funnily enough I just sold my Mustang GT (2015), had 0 issues in 7 years, just oil change and one new battery (and one recall for latches). GM can do better
Would that I could. I have been waiting and hoping for this one. Thank you both!!
I love that you called the CT5-V Blackwing a 4 door ZL1, that’s my license plate on my V2 CTS-V 👍🏻
I wish this was sold in RHD markets. This is an awesome swansong for this engine and transmission combo.
Best vid of 2022 so far! Keep it up!
Would be wicked to see cars like this in the UK. Love the look of these cadillac's
They have so much presence at night with those headlights, just menacing.
So good. Even v2’s are appreciating because of this. Great review.
Great video guys thank you!!! I have an electric blue 6 speed on order and my wife and I are so excited it''s alot of money for us but I wanted one so bad i was willing to whatever it takes to get one.

The sound of that car makes me wanna yell POWERRRR, thanks for the content

U guys nailed it. Couldn’t agree more.
I seen one for the first time in real time last week in all Black and that thing was 🔥🔥
I've been waiting for Soo long to watch this video after hearing you talk soon much about it in the Podcast
This is one of the cars I’m considering getting when I’m done with Nursing School. It’s a beast.
I don't know how much nurses make in your neck of the woods, but I'd imagine something like a new GTI would be a more reasonable purchase. Honestly I would say a new GTI would be kind of frivolous. I can understand wanting to reward yourself though.
@@herbalchicken bruh nurses are butt chugging money these days. Nobody wants to be a nurse, hospitals can't get enough nurses. He'll have money falling out of his ct5-v
@@herbalchicken what if u want a v8? Mustang gt? Lol
I wish they could stuff a V8 N/A LT from the c8 motor in the CT4 BW. That would have been glorious. The CT5 is just to big of a car to be a serious track monster (even though it will be super capable on track)
If we really want to dream, imagine the new LT6 with a manual in either car.
It really sucks that the CT4 is a V6
Why lol twin turbo v6 is a monster and more tunable and lighter.
@@u2bgeye679 can't beat the sound of a NA v8
@@JFlogerzi sacrifice driving dynamics and balance for sound? Lol murica!
BMW M5 starts at $105k so I wouldn’t say this specific car is a lot cheaper than the base German cars (being fully optioned $106k), but it’s definitely different and more driver oriented (and also obviously a lot more reliable) so this car is definitely a good option to have in this segment. And I agree about the value of this car.
That's the base M5. To be comparable from a performance perspective you would need to bring at least M5 Comp to the table (CT5-V Blackwing beat the Comp by 4.5 secs/lap at VIR) so the M5 is simply going to be a lot more money. However, if you're not one to push a sedan hard or track it you can get more luxury and plenty of performance from a BMW M550i in my opinion.
such a beautiful car that color is jaw dropping
The first 20 seconds of the video was perfection.
You named all the reasons I LOVE the TRX..."It offends in every way possible."
Great review! Thank you!
My god, a Caddy that can keep up with my ‘19 ZR1 Vette, well for a little bit, but YES I want one BAD! Thanks guys! Awesome sauce vid as usual…
You can sell your '19 ZR1 and pretty much buy this and have money left over for a c8.
I would get definitely this over the M5 and E63 based on external appearance alone. I think this is a better looking design. Not sure if I’d prefer it over an RS7, though, although the RS7 design is getting old, so maybe.
So much love for this.
I’m ready for the Escalade V. About damn time!!!
Modern classic and future classic !!
Great job, guys. What a vehicle. I think it's premature for GM to call it quits on this magnificent specimen of automotive engineering. I get electric but we're going into it too headstrong disregarding an existing and stable market for these types of cars. I don't see BMW or Audi capitulating any time soon. Oh, well..
Looking forward to your GTI review. Always a pleasure watching.
Blessed are the people that make, drive and review those cars.
I don't care how fast a Tesla Model S Plaid is, a a BMW M5 CS, an AMG E63 S, an RS6 Avant, RS7, or a Panamera Turbo S all are. A V8, RWD, 6-speed manual transmission super sedan for far less price than the Germans at a starting price of $87,990 is not only a hell of a bargain, but it'll be way more reliable than all of the Germans, but it'll also be a future collector's car in the same realm of collector cars like the 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP manuals and the 2015-2017 Chevrolet SS Sedans that came with manuals. Cadillac made the ultimate V8 with the ultimate bargain now as a final hurrah, but it's just the beginning. It'll be interesting to see what they do with the final model year of the CT4-V Blackwing and if they can get a bit more power out of it and crack the 200MPH and definitely the CT5-V Blackwing if they can get 700hp out of V3 of the LT4 engine or if they can make proper adjustments under the hood of the CT5-V Blackwing and squeeze the C7 Corvette ZR1's LT5 engine even if they detuned it to 700-715hp with that Tremec TR6060 or upgrade it to the TR6070 7-speed manual as a final model year limited edition CT5-V Blackwing which will really be the supreme collector's car amongst all collector cars.
The Best v8 Sedan Ever Hands Down ! Much Better Car Than Any German And Much More Reliable.
Great review. The CT5-V Blackwing is phenomenal, but so is the regular CT5-V...in spite of Matt's terrible review of it previously (must've been a bad sample on a bad day), as it's also garnered considerable praise for its chassis and handling (as it also carries MRC 4.0). Jonny Lieberman rightly deemed it best in class (S4, M340i, etc).
@@layne4376 exceptional. I have driven it, and I own a B9 S4 and a 335i M-Sport 6MT, and the V is much more engaging than either. You don’t have to like it, but virtually every review is overtly positive (save for the average interior). Jonny Lieberman (Motor Trend) declares it best in class. I don’t think he’s wrong.
p.s. The Koreans? The last comparo from MT had the CT5-V beating both the Koreans and the Japanese (G70 and TLX Type-S).
The diamond sponsor is soo on point! I chuckled.
WOW WOW What a car!! Cadillac is amazing! Love my CT5!
Cadillac hit it out of the park with this one. If I was considering spend $100k on a practical-ish car this would be at the top of my list

Theirs nothing wrong with the TRX or the blackwing other than dealer markups because they are freaking badass period.
There's an official list of good and bad actors on the V-forums as far as ADMs are concerned.

I love this car! The color look great, I also like all the sharp body lines. This being the lightest and a manual makes it probably more engaging than the Germans.

I am seriously looking at trading in my 1LE for this CT5-V Blackwing. A local dealer has one on their lot with steel brakes for $89K. Its just a bit outside my budget unfortunately.
Dude. The fact that your dealer isn't charging ADM on top. It's def worth considering the trade up
@@wesd991 Right? I was full on expecting a 10-15K ADM on it, but the dealer wants to let it go for MSRP. I just can't afford to reach that high right now, even though this car might actually gain in value over the next few years.
@@ericzwart3640 probably not doing any markups because of the letter GM sent out to all dealerships that went public. Basically says that markups are against the company contract and dealerships will get in trouble if they're reported.

Absolute machine. Looks fucking fantastic in person too
The only thing my 2013 CTS V Coupe can't match is the weight; otherwise it's been no big deal to get it to make 700 hp.( 1000 is very doable) and although it's an automatic; it's a blast on or off the track. I also appreciate that my gen. two does without the unnecessary complexities of this one or even the gen. three. I will keep it at a "mere 700hp." because that does not require other mods. to the breathing; cooling; traction etc.
After you blasted the vanilla-flavored CT5-V I'm surprised Cadillac even let you near one of their cars again.
At least they don't hold a grudge.
Lease residual on these things are between 49%-53%, be interesting to see how these will have held their value after 3-4 years and more.
Dude, this thing is great.
There will always be room for a V8 with a manual in my opinion. I still would’ve liked to see a coupe version though. Even though I’m an old man, I’m still not old enough for 4 doors on a “fun” car.
I couldn't afford the cv5, but I just ordered the ct4v blackwing. Trading in my bmw M2 for the "practical " family car ;)
There's about the same space in the back of the CT4 as the M2, but I guess the 4 doors makes a difference. I say let the kids walk! 😆

The problem trying to get one is the dealer mark ups due to dealers knowing it is in high demand and being the last V8 sedan from Cadillac.
Yes but it's the same for EVERY desirable performance car in this market. There are dealers asking $200k over MSRP for GT3s!
Do your research on the V-Forums. There's an official list of MSRP dealers.
