The Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing is probably our favorite sport sedan of the year. It's got a monster 670HP LT4 V8, a manual transmission, ceramic brakes, and a brilliant chassis. So we took it to the legendary Laguna Seca Raceway for the Hypercar Invitational, an event targeted to seven-figure sports cars! How does the big Caddy hold its own on track with some of the most focused, exclusive cars on the market?
Cadillac provided the vehicle, insurance, and a tank of gas for this review!

Best TST episode yet. Thanks, Matt!
Awesome car, awesome video. Wish you could have put on screen the gear, speed, RPM.. that is a car on my wishlist.
Hypercar invitational: we’re running the fastest cars ever produced are you sure you wanna track with them?
Matt in a CT5 Blackwing with nothing to lose: fuck it, we ball
best sedan he could have brought.. so cool to see it handle that well right?
@@alexioflexio8818 indeed; it held its own against all the super cars
That Ford GT pass was fantastic!! I love those Blackwings, I wish I could justify replacing my ATS-V with one. I just want no part of the dealer markups…
Go to the dealer. In front of their sales person, begin writing out an email to a GM Corporate rep concerning the markups.
GM will pull their reservations for halo cars after you send that email, which, the sales people will not let you do before they remove the markup.
Take a trip to Canada and buy it here. Markup is illegal here. Then just drive it back
@@carscoffeeandcannabis-634 Tariffs might be a thing.
Yea the ADMS suck ass, but I gotta feeling the black wings are gonna be seriously collectable
@@Reubachi this is 100% false for anybody reading his comment save yourself the embarrassment, I promise you there is no truth to that happening whatsoever. Unless you are in Canada, dealers are allowed (per their dealer agreements) to charge whatever they want for a vehicle and if a manufacturer tried to pull cars for dealers charging over MSRP then basically no dealers would have any cars to sell and dealers would sue the manufacturer because per their dealer agreements they are not governed by the manufacturer as to what they can sell cars for, hence why it’s called Manufacturers “Suggested” Retail Price 🤦🏻♂️
Being the slower car on a track with amazing machines is one of the best ways to experience them. Loved this video Matt!
One of my best automotive memories is being passed by three GT2s at WOT on the Nurburgring while driving a Rent4Ring Suzuki Swift. A simultaneously glorious and apocalyptic sound, like the gates of heaven and hell opening simultaneously.
As long as you're quick to get out of the way (like Matt), it should be fun for everyone. But some people in their Miatas or S2Ks think they're race car drivers and don't seem to want to accept that their cars are slow.
The only guy out on the track with a proper transmission...and it's in a friggin Cadillac sedan
Agreed. These hyper cars and super cars need to get back to the art of DRIVING. For me that’s manual and Gordon Murray’s T-50 is proof positive. But on a more “normal” level just look at the GT3. People want manuals!
@@m.hfitness couldn't agree more! Don't particularly care to set lap records or drag ET's, just want to have fun!
Sadly many people only care about numbers rather than the experience. But all my cars are sticks, and as long they keep producing them I’ll keep buying them. Fun>Lap times.
@@m.hfitness actual racecars are automatic 🤔
Tons of torque and a stick! So juicy!!
Gotta say, so glad to see temps aren't an issue. That's always my biggest concern with big power factory street cars. 700hp is nice, but not if you cant' do more then a lap without pulling over. Awesome video, it's rare to see these cars actually pushed.
TST gets better every year love the videos and podcast! 👍
This is like a Forza open class race in real life, fun to watch and I can tell Matt had fun making this one, awesome video!!
the Ford 9:04 gave me goosebumps
this is the content i wish you guys put out more. Or the old style driving peoples modified cars
I to miss the modified cars and stories behind them.
‘Zanardi line it through here’. I love you, man.
BIG RESPECT to Zack for the sound editing on this one! A lot of different noise to work through.
I love how you stay so relaxed while reviewing the V's performance as the supercars are whizzing by! Great entertainment mate!
Nice driving, Matt! Fun video to watch.
This was such a fun watch. Great commentary throughout. Thanks for letting us experience this with you Matt!
"There're definitely some people here with more car, than talent"...Yeah, that's pretty scary. Like you said years ago, it's crazy that they're just selling cars like that to people and the only point for entry is money.
A buddy of mine and I have had that conversation so many times, its almost irresponsible how much car you can buy for 80k these days, let alone 400-800k.
Not everyone is born with driving talent, some people have to practice.
Some people have money to spend on cars that can eclipse their talent. I doubt they are irresponsible, they made the money by being responsible, right?
Y’all sound like a bunch of jealous Karens.
@@chuckclark6162 Lol, what makes you think having money makes you responsible? Ever heard of Paris Hilton? or Prince Andrew? Money doesn't make you responsible, or morally superior, or anything else. It just makes you rich. Money doesn't have a bearing on what sort of person you are at all.
@@chuckclark6162 So you think that Matt, a guy who owns a Countach, is a jealous Karen? 😂
@@redlion145
What makes you think that everyone with money acts like Paris Hilton or Prince Andrew? Stereotype much?
You even said it yourself, “money doesn’t have any bearing on what type of person you are.”
You are bigoted & in need of an education, sir.
Wow, what a day at the track. Gaggle of 765s and they were far from the most exotic thing there. Looked like fun and the Blackwing did great for poor tires.
The Blackwing is such an AMAZING vehicle, and it’s gorgeous as well. I’m sure it will be an auction darling for many years to come. Hope many are lapped a bit as well!!
Great to see you putting this video out, it's really the best to see all those great cars being driven in their proper setting!! Forget 10s drag races, THIS is where the magic is!
As usual spot on driving. Great video for anyone who does not realize that Cadillac makes fast cars. Especially today on the day when it was announced that Cadillac is joining the Andretti bid to become the 11th team in F1.
the two podcasts surrounding this video brought me a ton of joy, especially the three driver interview. made this video that much better. what a hoot
Dude... Was so extatic to see cars that were ment to be at the track... on the track doing what they were built for... enjoying the drive!
I was fortunate enough to drive a gen 2 CTS-V there. Amazing experience! Thank you for this video!
9:02 - Thank me later! That Ford GT LM flyby was impressive but the 765LT looked even faster somehow!
Incredible an Ecoboost can sound like that
Dude. This is a great video! I would like to see more videos like this in cars like the M5 CS or even a regular M5 or Urus at a normal supercar track day etc
every time you did a point by I was stoked to see what was coming past you awesome video!!🤘
This is an incredible video! Thanks for bringing us along.
Love how calm you remain while on track. Zero chance I'm able to just chat like that.
Awesome video, thanks for posting.
It's amazing how many McLaren drivers actually drive their cars they're much more about driving their cars than Ferrari or even Porsche gt owners
💯!!!
The sounds featured in this video are outstanding, wow 😮
I like that the Caddy is one of the few manuals on the track that day.
This was fantastically entertaining, thanks for capturing this!
Great camera shots !!
Awesome video! I got to drive a Miata on Laguna Seca once so it’s pretty cool to see this video. Makes you feel like you’re there! I have an 03 Corvette Z06. It’s “only” 405 hp, but weighs only 3100 lbs. I wonder if it would hang with the Caddy?
That looks fun, I can't wait to get one myself and do the same.
Thank you for this video. I had fun with you
Wow, what a crazy event. Awesome cars on a great track. Nice to see some of these cars out on track and not just in a showroom or at 30kph in a city!
Great video man!!
This was such a chaotic video. Loved it
What an amazing track! Great video Matt🍻
Great video. Some amazing cars on that track!
Caught that "the Zanardi line," killer! Good stuff.
This may in fact be the only time I've watched a track video from start to finish.
Excellent. I’ve never done a track day and this let me live vicariously through you! So fun!
Trust me... do it... it's the most fun you can have on 4 wheels
David Bush, Track days are indeed, a lot of fun, and when you first start out with most groups that have first timers, you will usually have a teacher in the car with you. I have taken both my 600hp Jaguar XKR and my De Tomaso Pantera to the track dozens of times, and I have a lot of fun without ever exceeding my comfort level. That's the nice thing on organized track events, that you can drive with groups that are at the same level as you and with rules about passing, etc. so that you build conidence along the way. It's well worth doing because you learn a lot about your car and yourself. And start off at a less techical track (one that's not too hard to navigate) like Buttonwillow in Bakersfield, CA which is a relatively easy track that can be learned very easily. You'll not regret it.
Great experience I bet Matt! Maybe next year they will give you a Z06 so you can hang in there a little more.
Great episode Matt, think I'm gonna be looking for a used Blackwing a few years down the road
You will pay more
Love your vids Matt
Aside from the great video, Matt! looking fit idk if it was intentional but whatever you're doing its showing!
Nice film work.. man are you a lucky man! That Cadillac is something special
gees dude, you make me want to buy the cadillac blackwing now. great episode, i really enjoyed it.
PS: i was wearing Ben's helmet because i had forgotten to bring the visor on mine.. and, how often do you get to wear "the Stig's" helmet.. i took the opportunity :-D
I heard about it on the podcast but seeing is definitely believing 😂
And I have to say, Blackwing definitely doesn't look out of place.
Haha this is awesome to watch! Looks so fun.
Would love to see a "tuned" 19' ZR-1 run with all these exotics!!
I’d like to hear a couple examples of how some of these people got their money? If you say “ The money doesn’t always come the way you think it does”.
Damn the Caddy can hang! Seriously smooth driving Matt! Thing would be a wicked daily
Now that was a treat!!
Great driving, great video
Looks like a ton of fun.
Respect to the guy in the STO who gives a point by right away. Cool enough to take their supercar on track, and humble enough to know their limits.
I think this was one of your best videos.
Stunning hypers running with you, just epic! Your black wing just needs a huge wing LOL.
Question - why on earth would you be required to run windows down? Trackdays in the UK require windows UP if you have them!? The last thing you want it arms flailing around outside the car in a spin or gravel etc coming in if it can be helped.
Fun episode! Hey man, it would be helpful to post a QR code when you mention the links for the sponsors at the beginning of your videos 👍
Great audio for having the windows down
Seems like the Cadillac has really good heat soak characteristics. Not sure where the other cars were in their runs, but watching them pull into the pits as you go by gives you the sense that the Cadillac has better endurance on a stint! But it probably just looks that way... 😉
@9:06 I never thought I hear the sound of a turbo six spank a supercharged LS
He wasn’t even speeding with them 💀
Absolutely insane!
Great video!!!!
Frigging awesome!!
The improvements Caddy has made on the real “V” series car are very impressive and it’s the chassis tuning that floors me. Like the ZL1-LE1, this thing handles and in a race from point “A” to point “B” it holds its own. The Tesla Plaid will annihilate it, but if you’re on a mountain or a back road, the Caddy will be cooling down when the Plaid shows up. Chassis, tires (they need to set it up on the computer so you can run Cup 2R tires), brakes, engine and tranny work almost as one now. This might make me trade my ‘12 V in for one of these.
how much will the meals last ? the weekly refills have me worried that they don't last over a month, so about two weeks if you includethe time it takes them to be delivered
What a great advertisement for Caddy.
Great video and this is why I would take the CTS-V Blackwing over the Plaid anyday. It's a track car that doesn't become lame brakes after a lap or 2. Such a good machine and keep these coming, also yes its not actually faster then most of these cars but some of the drivers where lacking in skill for the cars they had.
The Plaid is a great track car, it has great stock brakes, they've got a new heat display technology where you can see if you're overheating the brakes because they will catch fire. With the optional ceramics it might be fine then only the drivetrain heat managment is limiting you, and they will find a solution for that. The VW stuff and Rimac didn't really get me into EVs but the McMurtry Spéirling fan car is sick, they are planning to build a street car from it and that seems insane, nothing on the road would be able to compete with it but then again it's a single seater and it will have a stupid price tag.
@@user-hr2zy7ct8h the Plaid with stock brakes sucks and is worthless after 2 laps at most. However if you want to pay the extra for carbon ceramic ones then they are good but still not supercar levels. The GT2RS for instance can lap the Nordschleife 5 times with no brake heat issues and is far faster then the Plaid. We need to see the new Ceramic brakes to see how they hold up after the multiple laps.
Matt, quality content.
That blue looks really good.
I think this demands a comparison to an M5 CS. That's the benchmark. I'd love to see how the CT5-V measures up.
They have been compared and that benchmark was beat by the CT5 V Blackwing…in the manual! M5 gets recognition but in reality the Cadi is a faster (around the track) better handling super sedan. But don’t take my word for it look it up.
Pretty sure Camissa did this on Hagerty (plus a Plaid)
Been done and the slower 6-speed variant of the Blackwing was faster than the CS around Willow Springs. Automatic would be the fastest sedan there.
CTS-V is the benchmark.
M5 was dethroned in 2006.
People have a hard time dealing
With a domestic beating Germans
@@WindyCity1992 I would have to disagree with you. Go watch some of the videos on the M5 CS. It beats Porsches and Lamborghinis. It's a whole other level above a standard M5.
That mclarens active wing was ones of the coolest views In the video
What an event!
That was pretty cool.
That Ford GT sounded amazing!!
This is insane, what an event
I'll probably never be able to afford this, but I really hope some people buy this and drive it.
Anyone have any youtube tags of the others drivers? Would be interesting to see their video footage if any recorded the run...
Track times for the ct4 Blackwing are the same as the 5. That would be interesting to show up with.
Great vid! the caddy did very well!!
its crazy that more car youtubers haven't done videos on this car
The blackwing is such an awesome sedan. How do you feel the M5 CS would have run against those other cars?
I own both. Cadillac feels lighter and more nimble. M5CS is faster on straights. As a track sedan, Project 8 is better than either one of them. M5CS is very much under tired for its size and weight. It needs 315s in the rear IMHO.
Thats a quick Caddy
Love Matt....love the blackwing
Love my CT5-V Blackwing!
Congratulations you have been selected amount our shortlisted winner 🎁 contact the number above.......✔️
I know it's the same face in the thumbnail.
Enjoyed.
Best Video yet, nice Car best Part a Proper 3rd Pedal Manual Transmission 👦🏻👍🏻🏎️🏁🚦
I can only imagine how good a BW drives, I’ve owned a V1 and V2, and loved the way they handled, and they’ve just gotten better with the V3 and V-BW I’m sure.
Track is cool. Been there on my 750 SRAD.
When the Blackwing is the cheapest and slowest car on the track, you know that there is serious stuff there. Props to all these supercar owners. So good to see these machines on track.
Ty
Fun drinking game, take a shot every time Matt says point by
Good one Matt love to get my arse into one of them👍🤪
man, must've been sick driving this thing around with all those cars around.
