    The new Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing is the answer to anyone who complains that cars don't involve the driver anymore. With a powerful, responsive turbo six-cylinder engine, a notchy 6-speed manual gearbox, excellent clutch feel, and brilliant chassis dynamics, the Blackwing is everything we could ask for from a sport sedan, especially given the reasonable sub-$60k starting price. It may be a couple of ticks behind the M3 according to the stopwatch, but in every other way, from styling, to ride quality, to sound, to fun, it's taken the crown for itself. Clearly designed by people who not only love driving, but are also very good at it, the Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing is quite possibly the best sport sedan on sale right now.
    Cadillac provided the vehicle, insurance, and a tank of fuel for this review.

    The team that develops Blackwing models deserves crazy props for the new offerings. They really are making cars with the best chassis, suspension, and steering in the performance car world at the moment aside from maybe Porsche. Sadly, these models will likely go overlooked because of the Cadillac badge and because Americans seemingly hate reasonably sized sedans.

    I took delivery of my CT4 V Blackwing on Jan 25. I have put about 982 miles on it in a month, and I work from home. In other words, I don't HAVE to go anywhere but I find reasons to just to get in a few miles. This is the finest vehicle I've owned. It doesn't quite have the hellacious engine/auto-transmission combo of the BMW M3 ( I owned the F80 from 2016-18) but I'd contend, for a car enthusiast, it does everything else better. I got a chance to test drive a 2022 M3 with the manual and it's a monster. Yet, I chose the BW over it because this is the better sports car of the two. Outside of that magical inline 6 engine, Cadillac has the better chassis, steering (not even close), braking, seats, gauges and suspension (again, not particularly close) when compared to the Bimmer. Most importantly, Cadillac's manual is better than the M3 and ultimately leads to a more robust driving experience. I love the M3 and wouldn't fault anyone for buying it. But I think it's been dethroned as the preeminent sports sedan by the BW. One last thing: this isn't loaded at 75k. I don't have all the Carbon Fiber options and I passed on a few more minor options that would have made my car closer to 81k. But if you don't need to have all the carbon fiber bits, you'll be in the 75k range with darn near everything.

      I had a 2023, 6 speed on order and got nervous about spending $75k on a car and backed out of the deal. I went car shopping a few weeks later and came home with an almost fully loaded 2023 Audi S3. I love it, but it just doesn't give me the thrill I got when I drove my Gen 6 Camaro SS 6 speed.
      I haven't driven a 4BW yet, but I know it will give me the feeling I'm looking for because of the spectacular Alpha chasis and that sweet V6. Your comments and this review that I've watched a dozen times are really making me consider a trade so I can get rid of this feeling of compromising.

      @@EgguEd51 last summer we did some highway pulls with them side by side (both auto transmissions unlike the RUclips comparisons I’ve seen)- it’s really not that different from a roll, but from a dig you’ll notice it for sure. When the bw lights up the rears that’s a good chunk of the margin between the cars, but we expected that from an awd vs rwd comparison. On a dead hook pull for the 4BW, the s58 pulled ever so slightly on the caddy. While engaging on throttle, I felt it lacked the character and spirit of the E9x chassis when not on full throttle (steering feel/ride firmness). Carl traded the g80 for a loaded C8 after 6k miles and did some wild exhaust on it, that car spanks everything in my garage 😂

    Cadillac needs to be given praise when it comes to bringing back the buttons. Sure their interiors are behind other luxury cars but they are in a lower price point on their own. Had they kept those touch buttons in this car that would've been the death of it I believe. In 20 years getting back into a car with touch buttons is going to be like trying to use the screen out of a Buick Reatta. Volkswagen ruined their enthusiast cars with the buttons, lets see who else does.

      Carbon Fiber packages are on constraint so that's going to cause your slow down. If your order gets pushed into '23, a price increase is likely. Might be worth ditching the carbon to get in time for '22. The carbon can be had from GM Parts sites and aftermarket.

    Cadillac is as good as it's ever been right now, the chassis has been there for awhile and everything else is catching up. My friend's been working for Cadillac as a product trainer for a few months now, their management really shifted in 2017 and turned its back on a lot of the dumb things GM does that hobbles their brands. Not to say all the demons are exorcised, but most of them are. My friend sent me a vid of his bosses taking one of these over 180 on some empty interstate highway in Montana or Nevada or somewhere, it looked stable and it does those speeds...don't recommend repeating it but just saying that 189 MPH top speed is not a lie!

If you have the transmission level set to track and it enters Performance Traction Management then the mode switcher will alternate between the different PTM settings instead of exiting V mode. You have to push the V mode button to exit V mode and select the other drive modes. If you think the only time the BMW "Crushes" that car is off the line, then go watch some more videos. You can have the track the .00005 percent time you decide to go. The BMW checks all the other boxes. You track your Honda Accord lately?

      @@Bad_Company666 These guys said they couldn't think of another performance sedan for the $75k price that they would rather have. If you think your M3 Comp is worth the extra $20k-$30k, then by all means, enjoy! You just sound REALLY defensive about it though.

    when I first heard about this car I thought they did a minor refresh on the ats-v and were being a little lazy on the engineering.. I was very wrong. the market's kind of broken in general but they are being particularly greedy on these things. I'd like one, but it's a little out of reach. found a mach 1 that I am picking up instead.. we have some great final hoorah's here for driver's focused ICE cars with some manuals. these are going to be very desirable for years to come.

    Yes, great review! I disagree with their comments on the track mode. It’s not meant for the street at all…it’s for track. I have run mine on the track hard and it is for sure planted and gives me plenty of confidence to push the car HARDER than my ATSV. The issue they had on the drive modes is not user error…I had that too but it went away on its own. Other than that …super solid review! Sorry M3…Matt would chose the 4V Blackwing over you:)

    And if it gets stuck in said mode odds are that the driver will try and fix it WHITE driving.
    I thought the V6 Mustang sounded great until Ford turned in into a rental car.

    Was cross shopping between the M2 and the CT4V Blackwing and honestly it's the redline that killed it for me. I like high reving engines. Have actually never owned a car that's redline is below 7k and the 6,500 redline is criminal

    • @ollyvoxx
      @ollyvoxx 3 месяца назад

      The Blackwing's ecu has been cracked, so a tune for 7k is possible! But also, as a 4BW owner, I'll tell ya, the power band in squarely 3500-5500. Only reason to even get close to 6500 is for no-lift shift.

    Zack most brake by wire systems can actually provide nearly full braking capability even if the fluid is completely boiling... pretty much eliminating the concern of brake fade even on track

    • @The_Stanman
      @The_Stanman 2 года назад +1

      It's not about capability, it's about lack of feedback and driver confidence. These brakes can fade, and the driver doesn't know. It actually was one of the biggest thing C&D complained about the Blackwing at Lightning Lap.

    • @nathanchildress5596
      @nathanchildress5596 2 года назад

    Great review guys. For future consideration in instances like this, mind touching on maintenance costs if you can? Example: the car is American and the only competition is German or Italian (Alfa). I figure it’s advantage American, but it would be great to know either way!
    Edit: for a car real people can afford, running costs in a video can really sway opinion. Cheers!

    • @nathanchildress5596
      @nathanchildress5596 2 года назад +1

      They can’t predict maintenance costs for new cars unless the manufacturer lists them, time will tell. It won’t be cheap, it’s a twin turbo after all, but probably less than any German competitors
