This guy is a professor at Birmingham university. It is a disgrace that he is allowed to take part in the education of our children when he has so many objectionable opinions. I am truly worried by the indoctrination of our children taking part in education imparted by prejudiced academics such as this guy. It is particularly painful knowing that my hard earnt income bears tax that in part is used to pay his salary and pension contributions. He is a disgrace and should not be given a public platform. What is "English" identity? If a Polish man from Poland migrates to London, has children born in London, they are English. 4:27 School is supposed to teach you basic fundamental skills for later life. Maths teaches problem solving, English teaches critical analysis etc. It is not the role of the school to ensure everyone has the same results, but it is their role to ensure everyone in the school has equal opportunities from the beginning.
Which there is ample evidence our education system has systematically failed to do. If you don't provide support to those children who need it you are not enabling them to succeed, so you are failing in your duty to genuinely provide opportunities. It's a bit like saying all you have to do is leave the door open even if there are steps leading up to the door - if you don't provide a ramp then you aren't actually providing a way in for wheel chair users.

It's not about one individual. Statistically speaking, yes, there will be POC people graduating, thats just a numbers game.... but you need to look at the whole picture. Academia is racist. Its incredibly hard for POC to reach the same level of success as our white counterparts. E.g. from the top of my head, the stats are that even though there are so many talented and I daresay better POC research scientists, POC researchers represent less than 1% of professors or obtain the top job in their department...I've literally noticed this in my department. Most of its run by incompetent, loud, boastful, racist, sexist, rich and entitled WHITE men. While some very hard working Indians or Chinese will be easily dismissed yet work beyond 9 to 5 and give their 110%. Thats literally just 1 example. I can write an entire thesis dissertation.

I went to my daughter's graduation ceremony at the University of East London last week. At least 80% of those receiving doctorates, masters degrees and bachelor honours degrees were students of colour - and mostly from African heritage. This in large part reflected the local London population. Black people who wish to aspire to achieve in higher education seem to be doing so. I have also read studies which suggest that children of black /mixed race backgrounds from working class areas are more likely to go on to higher education than white children in the UK. I'm not suggesting British education is perfect in respect of race, but there has been improvement, without doubt.

my theory is that black people in particular have a deep seated insecurity. They grow up in a white society and are exposed to a western education system which places great emphasis on white ingenuity and innovation. they see a lack of black achievement and this creates feelings of self hatred and hatred of white society this is what results in this common trope ' racism is everywhere' essentially a subconsious belief that white people are more intellgient and thus they are racist ( racist in the sense they think they are superior).

If you don't provide support to those children who need it you are not enabling them to succeed, so you are failing in your duty to genuinely provide opportunities. I went to my daughter's graduation ceremony at the University of East London last week. At least 80% of those receiving doctorates, masters degrees and bachelor honours degrees were students of colour - and mostly from African heritage. This in large part reflected the local London population. Black people who wish to aspire to achieve in higher education seem to be doing so. I have also read studies which suggest that children of black /mixed race backgrounds from working class areas are more likely to go on to higher education than white children in the UK. I'm not suggesting British education is perfect in respect of race, but there has been improvement, without doubt.

my theory is that black people in particular have a deep seated insecurity. They grow up in a white society and are exposed to a western education system which places great emphasis on white ingenuity and innovation. they see a lack of black achievement and this creates feelings of self hatred and hatred of white society this is what results in this common trope ' racism is everywhere' essentially a subconsious belief that white people are more intellgient and thus they are racist ( racist in the sense they think they are superior).

We may have owned slaves back in the day but at least we didn't sell our own people, which is exactly what Africa did when they sold slaves to Britain and America. Every major nation has low points in their history, normally involving slavery, but at least it isn't perpetuated in Western countries anymore. It's a shame I can't say the same for Africa and the Middle East, who still have slaves even now.
