My friend plays this album while flying his personal airplane at night. Ive been with him on two of them. The moon was out and everything. When this song came on, it was absolutely wonderful.
Me and my old high school friends listened to this entire album while driving around in the Texas snow, a very rare event in my parts. It was magical. We smoked a few bowls, cranked up the heater and drove the country roads for the length of this album. Once Leper affinity started, I don’t recall any of us saying a single word. It’s a very fond memory I have, driving in the closest we get to a blizzard, warm Ac blasting heat at me, stoned and all was right in the world. A peak Opeth experience.
That moment in early spring, when you are smelling the winter die but not yet the new growth. That organic decay, the earth reclaiming the old to support he new that is coming. Thats what the sound of this album reminds me off. An audio version.
Very beautiful and sad song. Åkerfeldt did a remarkable acoustic guitar job, besides the beautiful duet with Steven Wilson, who also performed the backing vocals, in this one. I must say that I absolutely love the instrumental interlude that goes from 3:13 to 4:14.
I'm sure I saw a documentary ( I could be wrong) that said this was a rushed album. It has some of my all time favorite songs when I was growing up on it! 10/10!
If you heard Royal Alber Hall show, than you must know that most of their albums in pre-prog era were written and recorded in unpleasant circumstances: either Mikael was poor and eatting canned food or he would make something random under the deadline.
It's their best one. Not just cause the heavy moments like most would say. It just has the best compositions overall. Its their most unique and honestly it's their best mixed album.
i used to listen to a ton of metal but didn't get the appeal of OPETH at all until i heard this song. then the rest of them immediately made sense. kinda weird

Listening to this after several years - still gives me goosebumps
One of the greatest albums of *ALL TIME*
I bought this C.D. 16 years ago. It was stolen from the back of a van the same night. So glad I can hear this now.

Lyrics
Stay with me a while
Rise above the vile
Name my final rest
Pored into my chest
Into the orchard I walk, peering way past the gate
Wilted scenes for us who couldn't wait
Drained by the coldest caress, stalking shadows ahead
Halo of death, all I see is departure
Mourner's lament, but it's me who's the martyr
Pledge yourself to me
Never leave me be
Sweat breaks on my brow
Given time ends now
Into the orchard I walk, peering way past the gate
Wilted scenes for us who couldn't wait
Drained by the coldest caress, stalking shadows ahead
Halo of death, all I see is departure
Mourner's lament, but it's me who's the martyr
Spirit painted sin
Embers 'neath my skin
Veiled in pale embrace
Reached and touched my face
Into the orchard I walk, peering way past the gate
Wilted scenes for us who couldn't wait
Drained by the coldest caress, stalking shadows ahead
Halo of death, all I see is departure
Mourner's lament, but it's me who's the martyr

He does back up vocals on window pane for a few lines
Listening to this Classic Album after all these years still tells me that I know that Opeth is in a class of its own !
Pure perfection
One of the rare bands that sound amazing live. Unforgettable night at The Roseland in Portland, Oregon.
Deserves much more views!
the general public just needs to pull their finger out and give more love to metal bands!!
I'm sure I saw a documentary ( I could be wrong) that said this was a rushed album. It has some of my all time favorite songs when I was growing up on it! 10/10!
It doesn't sound rushed!
I thought the rushed one was “Deliverance”... maybe they were both rushed...
I would never in a million years think this was rushed.
I can't even imagine how it would sound if it wasn't rushed.

Alucinante!!!!!!!!!! Nunca me deja de gustar, aun después de tantos años!! y También: "The Drapery Falls"
This song reminds me of sleepy hallow for some reason... Late Autumn in New England... orange and red leaves blowing in on a cool breeze...
Reminds me of old Pink Floyd.
You're on like every opeth vid
A masterpiece 😍

This song....THIS SONG, that Funeral Portrait bounce is so nasty. Thank you Opeth.... killer song 🔥
Greatest album by Opeth in my opinion.
You are not the only one with that opinion.
@@jro341 So I have read. The line up of the band was strong too!
Amo esta canción
Very nice! I would never know it was you. Like many of us singers, the speaking voice and singing voice are different.
Qué puta grandiosidad musical. Jamás me cansará esta obra de arte tan elevada
Sounds like a Diablo II soundtrack, and I love it !!!
Beautiful

Generalmente prefiero que cambien de nombre y hagan otro grupo pero esto se escucha bastante a LP
The only reason this song sucks is because it's too damn short.
Yup! Six minutes is too short for this type of song!
Agreed. As much as I love this song it could’ve been 3-4 minutes longer.
Swear to god im gonna play this song on guitar one day..
Shadow Fight 2 vibes

Wow this is like nickelback but without all the bad things about nickelback
Would being the “nickelback of death metal” be a compliment or an insult? Lol
Is this a very cheeky "sounds like nickelback" joke or am I overthinking this?
