LYRICS
Found a way to rid myself
Clean of pain
And the fever that's been haunting me
Has gone away
Looking through my window
I seem to recognize all the people passing by
But I am alone and far from home
Nobody knows me
Never heard me saying, "Goodbye"
Never shall I speak to anyone again
All days are in darkness and I'm biding my time
Once I am sure of my task I will rise again
this album is a jewel for a nightdrive...
Be careful it doesn't transcends you off the road.
This and Damnation
A spliff with this on some long roads is something else
Absolutely agree, a jewel indeed
The first time I heard this (or Opeth in general) was when I found a burned CD copy in a used car I bought. One of the most serendipitous musical moments of my life.
I Don't know why..
I just don't know why... But when I discovered Opeth, I was 15, I was listenning to Metallica / Iron Maiden and all the classic s*its from 1970-1980... Then I Closely listened to Pink Floyd.. Revelation, the power of "instrumentals Walks" leading you to marvellous place, built by awesome riff and melody... But it just awekened me.. Now I need the power that divides my Kind Part and my Dark one ... I Found Dream Theater.. it was more impressive to discover... But after all I think I miss the same thing I was searching, I'm more complete, but the emptyness is wider ...
And I found Opeth... If I have to describe it ... I will say it's the perfect complementary of contradictious feeling .. There are rage, pain, hope, envy, sadness and many more beautiful abstracts thing in Opeth's song... and of course, in Opeth lyrics
Opeth just gave me what I was searching and this band change my life for ever . They are so mystical, they talk to me as they sing for you. I'm totally in the universe they want to set up, year after years, song after song, kind after kind.. And now I see, where it's coming from and where it's coming for... Thank you Opeth... But I still don't know why how these songs are speaking to us, one after the others, this work is a whole masterpiece
+nibus9 you probably mean The Barstool Preachers, and it's not comparable to Opeth at all...
too "power" for me, I need my growl :)
I have never found so apt a story like this.
After listening to melodic metals and death metals for long, i suddenly discovered pink floyd, porcupine tree, king crimson, which took me to the door step of dream theater tool rush.
I am still discovering Opeth
I hope I will get to experience whatever you wrote.
I think its psychedelic to progressive for the majority.
I head the same thought. it brought me to blues rock. progressive, doom and stoner rock. Another thing in this route is Electric Wizard which is bass heavy doom Metal.
we share the same feeling , It's not just another band or another song .. it has something magical about the instrumental and the lyrics describing my sadness and my hapiness in each tone they play , i hoped they will keep the old school vibes in the new album but it's okay , they have marked a period in my life , and I'm so grateful ..
"Hours Of Wealth"
Found a way to rid myself clean of pain
And the fever that's been haunting me
Has gone away
Looking through my window
I seem to recognize
All the people passing by
But I am alone
And far from home
And nobody knows me
Never heard me say goodbye
Never shall I speak to anyone again
All days are in darkness
And I'm biding my time
Once I am sure of my task I will rise again

Right now, this music is exactly what I need in my life. Thank you Opeth for helping me through hard times.
SyllixMusic hang in there brother. Hope you're doing well.
Hope it's all alright now...
Word. I lost one of my best friends to suicide 6 months ago yesterday and he is the one who showed me Opeth many, many years ago. Him showing me Opeth made me 100x better as a musician. Plus they're just incredible.
Same here dude
This song has saved my life multiple times.
2021 still listening.. and remembering how better days was ..
OPETH IS THE BEST BAND EVER
Definitely. I remember buying the CD and listening to it in my Chrysler lebaron back in 06. Miss those days
i have this album on vinyl
its priceless to me
Pure beauty. The progression at 1:02 is divine. Can't get enough of it.
One of Opeth's best moments
@@omairsh8, indeed! Speaking of it, pay attention to the key changes at 1:34 and at 2:10: fabulous pieces of music. I love “Hours of Wealth” pretty much.
That really is a divine piece. I get annoyed when it stops abruptly.
It always sounded like he was writing a suicide note but as he's writing he comes to a place where he can feel renewed and rise again like a phoenix from the ashes of his mistakes and failures
Could be
Don't
Well this is also a concept album that involves a mother being possesed by a demon so yeah I guess you could say there is somewhat of some suicidal vibes within it all so yeah.
Yeah that's exactly how I interpreted it when I was in high school listening to this. I related a lot to those feelings back then. Never finding a place and reason for being. Contemplated suicide for a spell having no friends, no purpose. But I realized that a lot of those challenges would make me better in the long run even if the loneliness ate at me inside.
Songs like this allowed me to see the big picture. Found an outlet through an online business. Then college and career. Most importantly is the belief of a purpose in the kind of impact I can have on others and being meant for something greater.
Think a lot of kids need that kind of guidance. Whether it be through music or mentorship. I'm glad to have found metal and bands like Opeth when I was in high school. Helped put the world and my own feelings into perspective, and afforded me a level of introspection that otherwise I wouldn't have had. Unlikely I would have been as ambitious as I am now without metal music.
@@jpusar thats amazing. Guess after all, you were sure of your task, and rised.
That guitar solo is soooo Gilmour. Just beautiful.
Dingleberry Handpump this song definitely felt very Pink Floyd at times
when that guitar comes in
chills
the blues is real
As in the David ? 🤓
@@jamesharden8033 Yeah.
That's a bit of a stretch... As much as a like Davey
0:33 that guitar part sounds so sad and dark. The "I miss good times" vibe it gives off.. man this is beautiful
They're no Cannibal Corpse, but they're no Dream Theater either. Perfect band.
+Ben Tate Well said!
They are above and beyond anything else
They are metal in its purist form.
+MashedPotato this is like 10% metal and this song isn't.
+Ben Tate Please, what is the band on your avatar, I saw these cover on many Prog fan, I want to discover it !
The part from 1:02-2:23 gives me chills every time. I love music like this that has an eerie, Halloween-ish vibe to it. So beautiful.
It somehow sounds hopeful and eerie at the same time. That's why Opeth are geniuses. They can create such complex feelings in their songs.
It has this kind of feeling to it for me as if you are a ghost in purgatory and stuck in a twilight world of endlessly repeating memories.
one of the most beautiful songs ever
best album ever. from start to finish
Agreed
Yes
Not even in Opeth's top 3
@@megadavetaylor2949 what's Opeth's top 3?
@@YeaminMalik 1 - Blackwater Park
2 - Still Life
3 - Morningrise or My Arms, Your Hearse
Opeth will forever be my favourite band
same🤘🏿
This is one of the *very* few albums I can listen to start to finish and this song is an absolute masterpiece.
Céilidh Nicholls This entire album is a masterpiece :)
Aaron Gentry I absolutely agree! :)
Céilidh Nicholls I'm at loss of words to describe how good this album is and especially this very song.
Peter Carlson Absolutely agreed!
(smooth comment incoming)
your beauty is a masterpiece
The song of all my sundays
You should listen to Gloomy Sunday by Heather Nova.
"Once I am sure of my task I will rise again." ♡
The Rise is the AntiChrist upon Code. Very few know this.
there is something magical about this. I ve been listening to it for 15 years.
2:25 til the conclusion of the song is truly one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard.
This song is like a sweet lullaby, i could listen to it until i fall asleep.
I feel the same way about Silent Lucidity by Queensryche
Literally. I put this on loop and listen to it over and over until I go to sleep. It really does help. This song seems to be the only one helping me.
Masterpiece from a masterpiece
One of Mikael's most amazing clean vocal performances. Blown away.
Imagine disliking this masterpiece.
I didn't dislike it but i didn't like the singing at all cuz it has too much pop style in it. I've heard better stuffs in Doom Metal both musically and vocally...
@@captainfantastic3490 wtf
@@captainfantastic3490 pop style? This is bluesy and jazz inspired
My favorite off this album.
Favourite Opeth song
My favorite Opeth tune ever.
Opeth guitars are always so BRILLIANT
There are somedays when i can't even handle all the things that are happening, and in those days, all i do is going to my bed and listen to this. This song is my safe place in the world. Thanks, Opeth.
i am completly crazy for opeth.
i have the "o" logo tattoed on me.
they stay with me to the end of my life
I have the same tattoo on my right shoulder!
Same. I got mine over my back
Same
I have one too
The guitar player from arkaik has one too. When i saw them live all i could think was "...ah. I see your a man of culture." Been thinking about getting one myself but idk if i can committ to it lmao
Sometimes I find myself replaying 'Hours of Wealth' and 'Patterns in The Ivy I & II' over and over again until I feel cured...
Pure perfection. Possibly Opeth's greatest song...
basscom77 I can never decide on just one favourite Opeth song, I have like 30 favourites!
@@Thinker0512 same, impossible to narrow it down to just one!
@@nefariousnymeria2065 The Grand Conjuration. With almost everything else a close second
I actually thought the grand conjuration was the worst song on this album. Not cuz it's bad or anything, just liked all the other ones more and the grand conjuration doesn't really justify it's length. I prefer the music video version of that one. Whereas songs like ghost of perdition, it feels like it's that long for a reason.
1:02 Reminds me of the Count of Tuscany intro a little bit.
Jearte mephiti except it doesn’t suck ass
Dustin Clark except county of Tuscany doesn't suck ass (unless you count lyrics)
Kirk yeah the lyrics are fucking whacked on that one. I think it’s pretty good tho. Not my favorite DT song. Doesn’t stack up to octavarium or a change or seasons. I don’t know why DT gets so much hate
Advice: Never bring up Dream Theater in the comment section of an Opeth video. As you can see from your responses, it's just a load of hate
Jasper Gillgannon very strange you’d think that there would be significant overlap between the fans of these bands. I love them both
Saw them perform the whole album at the house of blues on Orlando Florida as a teen with dark tranquility and devil driver. Easily the best show I've ever been to.
Oh my god Opeth, where have you taken me for 5 minutes !!
I certainly wasn't in my body lol
Mikaels voice is so perfect in this song. They could be a perfect blues band if they wanted to.
15 years since i've heard this song... And i'm still feeling the same way since that day
Love this Track.. i dont think i found a bad song my Mikeal ever. not once
This might just be my fave Opeth mellow tune. Stunning.
Another masterpiece to fuel our lives with gratitude and serenity.
Best song for the fall when the leaves are changing colors and flying through the breeze on a long highway I live in Wisconsin where it changes drastically I can't wait to fall again to listen to this
Where you at in Wisco? I live in Wisconsin Rapids. I feel you tho even tho I steady listen to this song. This was the first album I ever owned by Opeth. So sick.
@@justinzemke8373 no fucking shit bro that's crazy I live in Stevens point
beautiful beautiful song
the moment that solo hit it was instant goosebumps washed over my whole body.......crazy!
god damn
this song is beautiful
love the lyrics and harmonies
Listen to this song's outro and then Porcupine Tree's Arriving Somewhere But Not Here's outro.
divine0enigma It was Mikael on both albums, he helped on PT's album while writing this one.
One of my most fav of all time! Arriving somewhere is love!
This song can describe a lifetime in such little words. I like to think it describes many people's changing past.
1:07 on is beautiful, that pad and rhythm is so soothing
It's like falling asleep into some dark but peaceful dream of an eerie forest with an abandoned train track or something, with will o' wisps flying around. The dream intensifies, and with that finishing chord before the lyrics comes on, the dream ends and you wake up to that boring Sunday afternoon.
One of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard
This song, this album, this band is just amazing...im speechless
Such a haunting, beautiful song. One of Opeth's all-time greats.
Heard of soulful singing but this is like each one of our souls is coming out and singing in his voice. It aches when I hear him sing a certain portions.. In Burden, In Windowpane, Face in the Snow, Face of Melinda, Lovelorn Crime or I could go on and on... his growl is one thing but his melodies are to die for. 😭
This is the song of a man who has everything and has nothing at the same time
Chris Cornell
For any sinner
or any ghost
there's never a return really...
This music helps me sleep at night when I struggle going to sleep. So thankful for them.
2:23
They took you night man and you don't belong to them
They left me in a world of darkness without your sexy hands and I miss you
every single note of every song on this album works for me. that is incredible.
Looking through my window
I seem to recognize all the people passing by
But I am alone and far from home
Nobody knows me
nobody knows me ..
This song is great !! ♥
+Ebtehal Mohamed What other Opeth tracks do you like? Do you like their harder stuff?
+Goreface69 my best is " fair judgment" anyways most of their songs are amazing !! What's your fav one?
Ebtehal Mohamed I would have to say The Lotus Eater and Burden, I just love the Watershed album so much.
+Goreface69 burden is amazing too it's the second best one for me
Nothing like good'ol Opeth to help sooth and untangle the soul. I Love this song!
What a guitar solo...
This whole CD is my 2006. Absolute best year of my life so far. Love it
something wrong with my life, because i come here too often
Ooooor maybe Opeth's just too good!
My life is good, but still came here often
Somethings wrong if you don’t come here often
This song makes me feel like my life is an art piece
Starting 2015 with this masterpiece!
Some songs give you a really special feeling. This song is certainly one of them!
that smooth solo is indescribable
I come here sometimes just to hear what real music sounds like, and to remind myself, when I'm down, that I have a purpose.
How can you even think to dislike this song ? Pure magic
Holy shit! This song are so fucking beautiful. We need more band's like Opeth these days...
From 1:02 it's pure bliss
Can't forget when the guitar part and (melotron?) Come in at 0:33
The Opeth which fans miss listening to
This song brings a tranquil sensation to my heart that words fail to capture.
that part at the start just gets me every time
Opeth is pure magic 🥰
Early opeth is the interior of my mind...in music
Some zoomer told me today that this is bad music. That just added so much value to a song I already loved dearly for over a decade.
As a zoomer myself, yeaah, don't listen to him this song is beautiful
We don't claim him
The voice of Mike is from heaven…
Strange how songs take on different meanings to me as the years pass by...
1 of my favorite songs of all time \m/
But the first time I heard this and listening to it now, it morphed into a whole other meaning for me
with the original meaning still there lingering in the background
Once I am sure of my task I will rise ....again
goosebumps from start to end
I have played this song at least once a week, since i first heard it back in high school. Maybe 2007. 2008. Just always felt right and perfect to my soul. Still does.
SO beautiful
This solo is very similar to that of Burden.
Things are about to get bad in my family... this song brings comfort in dark times
Who'd of thought... Opeth... Pure beautiful BLUES.
Masterpiece.
That solo right there 3:48, one of my fav solos
The solo at the end reminds me of the clean solo in Arriving Somewhere but not Here by Porcupine Tree, espacially the lick at 4:48. After all, both albums were released in the same year and Mikael Åkerfeldt and Steven Wilson were collaborating for a few years, so I guess this isn't just a coincidence.
The clean guitar solo from 8:49 until 9:41 on Arriving Somewhere But Not Here is played by Mikael Åkerfeldt.
Heard this song for the first time today and I came here to comment just that! It's beautiful in both songs and I wonder if it was intentional. Lots of musicians have their signature licks that they unconsciously (or maybe sometimes consciously) slip into when improvising. I've noticed Steve from PT tends to sneak in the ending of the guitar solo in The Sound of Muzak into different solos when playing live too.
Absolutely beautiful piece.
the right song for my current hard time :')
their music never dies.
This song is so underrated.Opeth's musicality can never be matched. :')
Ohh My God man, this band is so so perfect , what a beautiful song
An astonishing piece of art by an outstanding band //
this whole album is the best!
This song is paradise to me.
I would love to be able to see them live!!! Someday!
love it Mikael Aakerfeldt! thank you for existing
angelical tune! Opeth is my Relligious experience!
I remember listening to this for the first time on my cd player while walking to work back when it was released. I didn't realize at the time I was being spoiled. The only thing I thought was, "Hey, this doesn't suck" - this is what Deliverance, Damnation, BWP and Morningrise does to you, after all. After more time, I'd realize that it was Opeth's last true masterpiece. Phenomenal album, every minute of it, start to finish. This particular song monopolized on Opeth's more atmospheric, melancholy sound, so much so that each song in this same vein made afterwards would be compared to it...and fall just a little bit short.
i can relate to you so well man....
You mean "falls *drastically* short".
I respect them for trying something new. We still have all the good stuff right? It wont ever go away. So i just thank him and them for that and let it be. They say art takes courage.
I always sleep to this Masterpiece.
Thank you opeth
