  • Osteoporosis is a risk factor for bone fracture much as high blood pressure is a risk factor for heart disease. Prolia helps prevent bone loss and actually results in some new bone formation. With 2 injections under the skin’s surface each year, it requires minimal hassle. The so-called FRAX score, available online, rates the likelihood of a bone fracture and assists in determining an individual’s need for therapy. Unfortunately it may overestimate the need for medical intervention.

This video needs to be updated. Once you start you can never stop and if you do you can suffer many fractures in a short period of time.

    • @karlint39

There is definitely research that shows massive increase in fracture risk if Prolia is discontinued. However some doctors say if you transition to certain other osteoporosis medications, you can mitigate this risk. Hopefully that is true.

Thank you so much for this lecture. Amazing facts. My endocrinoligist wants me to take Prolia. I have done some research and found that this drug is made from the ovaries of Chinese Hampsters. Being a vegetarian this rules it out. All your facts are so useful. So off I go now to exercise, eat leafy greens, bounce, take calcium and Vit D. I feel that things will go well now, drug free.

I think a lot of biologics (monoclonal antibodies for various autoimmune diseases) are made that way. My rheumatologist said the same thing about another injectable drug for RA 20 years ago. If only they could do like with insulin and make it using bacteria instead of getting it from mammals.

@@beegeefan4ever the problem with Doctors & Physicians Assistants is they are practicing decades old medical practices not more recent studies and scientific discoveries. It takes a decade for that data trickle down thru medical schools and decode mainstream. My own very competent PA was behind the curve treating my Type II, High BP & Cholesterol. I had them for two decades. I was on seven different prescription medications, two I took twice a day. I started my transition by following Dr Mark Hyman here on RUclips, then Dr Stephen Phinney & Jeff Volek. Read their two books. I’m strictly Keto, my body and brain burn Ketones for fuel. I limit my carb intake to 20g a day. Sold my car so I could only ride my bikes. I live in a rural area. I’m 20mi RT to my P O Box and the closet grocery. I lost 81 pounds 2 years ago, weigh 187, have no disease and take no medications but take most of the supplements that Rhonda Patrick & Dr David Sinclair take .. last Christmas I gave my PA, the book, "The Art & Science of the Ketogenic Lifestyle", so she could get up to speed, it’s written for practitioners,.
I’m heather now than I’ve been in 30 years. I’m 73 yrs. I’ve ridden almost 20,000 miles since July 15, 2015. I don’t want to live forever but I’ve got to out live Scarlett, my 2 yr old Red Border Collie & Fly, my Black male. After that I’ll play it by ear. I’m no doctor but I know that if I hadn’t abandoned traditional medical treatments for my diseases and done my own research, my prognosis was not very good and I’m pretty sure I wasn’t going to live all that much longer. Now following Sinclair I’m aging backwards, I’m more mentally clear with more energy. Frankly anyone listening to the FDA, managed by all food industry insiders, promoting the particular products they came from and the, upside down food recommendations Triangle, and eating the SAD, Standard American Diet ... is doomed to obesity and disease. I take the supplement Super K with two sources of K2 and K1, that transports calcium out of my blood stream (reducing my already low chance for Plaque) and deposits it to my bones, strengthening them, reversing bone loss with aging. There’s is plenty of good research here by John Whitcomb. "Staying Alive.. Staying Alive .. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Why don’t you review Rhonda Patrick @ Found My Fitness and see what might be in her data on Osteoporosis. Oh Gotta Go, My Broccoli Sprout, Blueberry, Strawberry and Avocado Smoothy, my dinner, is warming-up and nobody likes warm smoothies.
