I was prescribed Prolia for Osteoporosis and was not told about side effects. When my teeth starting breaking without cavities I started asking all the doctors and dentists if it could be a medication and they said no. Finally, after asking a lot and having most of my teeth broken and Oral Surgeon told me that it was Prolia. My jaws and gums are so damaged that I can do anything about it and now all I have in my mouth are broken teeth. Please do not use Prolia
All drugs are toxic to us! If doc prescribed, they don't cure you from anything. Doctors are not taught to cure diseases! They only prolong agony in the best case scenario. You are their cash cow.....wake up.
Thank You. I am 78 and feel as strong now as I did in my 40’s and 50’s …… and I have strong arm muscles. The Orthopedic Group did a repeat DEXA and I was shocked when told my osteopenia is now osteoporosis. They wanted to give me prolia the same day!! My dad and mother were healthy until 94 and 102. I do not want to go on medication and told them I needed to research prolia and a holistic alternative. Over a year ago I made major changes to hopefully build stronger bones…..I faithfully take supplements…… I faithfully follow a plant based diet supplemented with limited fish, chicken, eggs. I jog and bike 4-5 times a week. Thank you. I am going to download your book…. Hoping to turn this around!
Bone density and bone strength are different. Bone strength is increased by weight bearing exercise! Bone density does not mean your bones will be more resistant to breaking...just that they are denser. It is good to build stronger bones with muscle building weight bearing exercise. Walking is excellent place to start.
So glad I discovered these videos. Lots of questions I have are getting answered. Typically, doctors and specialists don't have the time (or perhaps even the knowledge?) to provide important information like this. Thanks you so much!
Thank you for explaining the risks of Prolia. I was 59 when I started Forsamax after minor fractures from a 1m fall. After 4 years, my DEXA scan showed no improvement. The Endocrine specialist insisted that Prolia was my only option. She claimed that the benefits outweigh the risks. However after some research I decided against it. It's been 3 years and my DEXA scan has not improved or worsened. Your video has further convinced me that my decision was correct.
Thank you so much for the simple to understand explanations of pros & cons of Prolia. Since there appears to be more new drugs being generated & the actual pharmaceutical companies funding the research “white paper” that there should be some form of punishment for now non- responsibility of drug companies . Thanks again for explaining all alternatives
I am so glad I came across these video’s. I’ve been one 2 years of annual Aclasta drips. At 43, I was diagnose with osteoporosis and my first two vertebrae fractures (T6 & T11). As a result of the Aclasta, I had a retinal tear just to name one adverse effect. In Febr we repeated the Dexa scan. At the moment I have a fracture at levels T7, T8,T9,T11 &T12. In 2022, I had a vertobroplasty for T6 and T10. My endocrinologist wanted to put me on Forteo, which my medical aid declined. Now she wants to start me on Prolia. I also have 2 stable meningioma’s ( I had a craniotomy in Nov 2020), I am on Topamax for seizure management after that. After my resent Dexa scan my dr has admitted me to hospital for tests regarding these multiple fractures. She discovert distal RTMA. I’v been in menopause for the past 2 years. They don’t want to put me on HRT because of the meningioma, although I think something like Menostar that is estrogen will be fine. The more I hear about Prolia the more I want to run. I am still young(45).

Just 3 days ago and intern and my GP suggested I begin Prolia or Fosamax for my recent dexa that since 2010 shows Tscores of -2.6 and -2.8. I chose the second recommendation of 1200 mg Calcium and 2000 IU of D3, continue my 2 mile walks, incorporate weights and resistance training. I started Collagen peptide powder and may not include as per this video. I have maintained a 50 lb. loss since 2018. We will check the dexa in a year and I hope to see mo loss and maybe grow. Guess it's time to watch the masterclass! So glad y'all are here!
Thank you for facts. I am so glad I am not taking meds for my bone density. I prefer organic, non-gmo food, natural vitimins and minerals, and of course I am physically active. I am glad your channel showed up on RUclips. Good information. THANK YOU!!!!!!
I had a diagnosis of osteopenia via DEXA 8 or 9 years ago. Prescribed fosamax but did not take it. Recently with diagnosis of PMR and on low dose prednisone for 2 months, planning to stop at 3. I have bone pathology on MRI of spine, but the spinal doctor is not worried. No surgery required and not experiencing pain. My dilemma. I’ve been encouraged (strongly) to go on either fosamax or prolia which I am resistant to doing. I’m in the medical profession and researching everthing on this subject. I’d no idea of of CTX and P1NP. I like what I am hearing. I live both in Ireland (domiciled) and USA. I would love to chat with your team. Thank you for your dedicated research and information.

Thank you for your honest evaluation of this drug. I am cramming to be prepared for an appointment to test my hormones and to discuss my osteoporosis diagnosis. This NP tried to push prolia on my elderly mother and she said absolutely not. From all the videos I’ve watched recently I’m inclined to agree w my wise momma. I have started paying more attention to getting the 1200 mg of calcium w my food, was already taking Vit D but now combined w K2, walking on treadmill 30 minutes and doing other exercises for osteoporosis too. Otherwise I do lots of outside yard & gardening work also. Hopefully I can improve my bone strength naturally 🙂. 2:34
I had severe bone pain in various parts of my body after one Prolia injection. It easily lasted six months and negatively impacted every day (I normally feel excellent). I've also suffered numerous broken teeth and significant dental problems since that injection. I've sworn off all osteoporosis drugs since.
Took 4 injections and felt like I was on chemo getting sicker. I stopped, but told it would affect my bones worse now. I now need a knee replacement, neck surgery and recently broke an ankle. Don’t do it. By the way, always athletic, small frame with scoliosis’ Harrington rods. This disease sucks and being almost 70 and atrophy has set in. 😩
I took two Envinity shots. It’s ruined my life I have RA it’s like being in the worst flare ever all the time I can’t get rid of it. On a Monday I got the infinity shot and my jaw hurt at night. The doctor told me this was not possible I said OK well I’m not doing any more shots. He talked me into one more just one more, now my neck is killing me and my left thigh. I’m going back to my neck surgeon who did surgery on my neck last year to see what’s wrong because after he fixed my neck, nothing hurt and now the pain just won’t leave me alone and I’m on pain meds.
Thank you so much for these videos! Your knowledge is so appreciated! I was put on Tymlos and after 2 injections I quit because of awful side effects. I'm 56 with -4
Thanks dr Doug. Wish i came across it before starting Prolia. Fortunately....i hope....being my first injection...i do not have dire consequences , since i do not intend to continue it. Have a very good osteopath that has helped me for many years through my injures and i will follow his exercises. Thanks so so much

I've been on it for several years, with GOOD results, with NO PROBLEMS so far!!!! I'd LOVE YOUR NATURAL health e- book for bone health!!!! THANK YOU for EVERYTHING!!!!
Recently, diagnosed with severe osteoporosis and encouraged to go on Prolea, pending approval from kidney specialist, I was super happy to hear this. I know I will find it helpful and will listen to it multiple times.Thank you!
Thank you so much for this info. My gynae wanted to send me a script for Boniva. I expressed concern about the side effects. She then suggested I see an osteoporosis specialist who knows more about Prolia. I have canceled my appointment after learning more from people like you. I am 59. My lumbar spine is -2.7. I will do everything I can naturally and re scan in 1 year.

Thanks. I am 76 and I have osteoporosis and I’m not fond of taking one of those drugs. But this video you just did helps me understand better. So I’m hanging on a little longer before I take a drug. I have rheumatoid arthritis and I also have LEMS so my C-spine is the question in the future. But I’m not thinking of that only. I’m trying to stay alive as long as possible of course. I have only limited control of that one. Ha ha anyway thank you I am giving more info now to think about.
I took one injection of Prolia back in 2017. I had a severe adverse reaction to it. Extremely sore and stiff joints and bone pain in my thighs and shoulders. Hands were stiff every morning. Took approximately 18 months to get out of my system. My doctor as well as myself attempted to contact the drug company, and bottom line they really did not care about the adverse effects. I absolutely refuse to put any of those medications in my body. Since then, I have only used natural calcium supplements, Vitamin D3, Vitamin K2 mk7. From one of your videos, I did order a supplement that has the calcium hydroxyapatite in it. I make every effort to eat a lot of greens and watch my diet. I walk every day along with some light weight bearing exercises. This past Dex scan showed a slight improvement. Thank you for the information on your site, I am finding it very helpful.
Sorry to hear about your reaction! Side effect reporting is an issue with our system…. Keep reviewing the material we put out! You could also join our free masterclass, HealthSpan Nation or consider working with us directly.
I began to feel a loss of balance & confidence after beginning Prolia, until I added daily doses of collagen peptides. In my second year now ( age 83) I feel renewed confidence, balance, and perhaps even strength. Reportedly Collagen supplementation is considered ill advised, however, I am experiencing far more beneficial results than before. This discussion is informative, and I’d like to continue following. BTW, my daily exercise includes daily “ doggie walks” of 20-40 minutes whenever possible ( in Maine), some yoga, and doing my own housekeeping.
@@gourlief Who said you shouldn't take collagen? Humans slow production of collagen as we age and research supports supplementation. Take a look at our videos on training and consider some updates to your program :)
Do as heavy exercise as you can. Light exercise do little for the skeleton and muscles. Lots of studies on that. Better heavier with fewer repetitions.
Excellent review of this controversial drug! I appreciate the description of the scenarios where Prolia, or bisphosphonates for that matter, might be appropriate. However, knowing how frequently PCPs prescibe these meds I can't help but think of the saying "When the only tool you have is a hammer everything looks like a nail."
Your absolutely right. As a surgeon I fell into this same trap. Everyone has a surgical problem. It's what I do. The expectation when going to a traditional doctor should be a pharmaceutical. It's what they do.
Thank you for this honest, informative video. My Endocrinologist said the only reaction he had known was a rash at the injection site otherwise no side effects so I was scheduled for first Prolia infusion 3 months ago but cancelled it after reading bad patient reviews. My husband read them too and said "You are not taking that". Taking all recommended supplements and exercise. Hoping to see improvement in next year's DEXA.
here from Italy. 52 years, severe osteoporosis with two vertabral fractures, doctor in medicine, soon will have my medications ; very very worried. thank you for your video

Three years now and it’s been helpful blood work up before I get the injection I feel it’s working and I’m happy too be in good health and my bones are in good shape according to the dexa scan and what my Rheumatologist tells me .
I'm convinced. I don't want Prolia. I am an active 71-year-old who still wants to cycle the Pacific Coast trail and Lake Huron. I did all my long-distance cycling after my second hip fracture at age 45. I think I will work on building bone density the natural way, through weights, skiing, hiking etc., as well as supplementation. I am also not as fearful of fractures as others. I've had great surgeons who have put me back together.
If you still do all those things, you are lucky. Ex athlete at 70 and my bones are failing me quickly. Losing muscle as even with exercise no build up. I was on Prolio 10 yrs. ago and discontinued. That may be the issue.
I’ve talked to you before about options. I had adrenal cancer 20 years ago, and hip replacements last year. I also lost 3 1/2 inches in my hight over the years with severe compression fractures and have a curved spine. Steroids did a number on my bones. Now, i finally understand. Doctors don’t explain anything to you. I guess i will be on it forever and hope for the best. Your videos are so helpful, thank you.
I stopped my proliaa after about 2 years to get dental work done. This is where I am now. I had zero side effect to the drug and zero when I stopped. Now I am at the crossroad of what I do for bone next. My GP is also an advocate for nutrition and exercise. As I am in the age groups mentioned I am going to discuss in depth now the best way to manage my bone health moving forward.
That's great you have a supportive MD! Consider yourself lucky. If you are searching for options, consider our master class. Link in video description.
I’ve been on Prolia for 2 years (4 shots) My bone density before starting was 3 standard deviations below the norm. It was a tough decision but even those opposed to any meds said it would be beneficial. I’ve had no known side effects and I’m in excellent health. My bone density is now characterized as osteopenia. I very glad with the results however I was not told about effects after going off. I will certainly be looking into that!
I simply went on the website and read peoples comments taking the drug. So many people were very upset they ever started the drug, a huge number of complaints about side effects. That was enough to convince me to steer clear of it. I was on Fosamax then Boniva and after 10 years I went off completely. Since then I broke my humerus but only because I fell off a motorcycle. I also took a fall off a bench and broke two toes because my foot hit the wall on the way down BUT no vertebral FX’s or hop FX’s. It is SO important to do your own research people, do not do something because it is recommended. Some Doctors do not research anything they just follow protocols period.
AGREED! I wish I had done my research before going on it 4.5 years ago. Now I'm scared to death about going off, and another serious adverse effect of all this, including after the COVID experience, is that I don't trust doctors, not even "good" ones. I do trust Lucas more than any other, but he's an anomaly in the medical profession.
Look at videos about vitamin D, calcium, gut microbiome, resistance training and diet. Osteoporosis can be improved with all of this. Never back to younger years but a slight improvement and no worsening.
I had a gut feeling about this drug when I received a huge push to start it from a new doctor. His staff pushed so hard it made me uneasy so I began looking at what others have experienced. What I found was frightening. One woman said she’s been bedbound since taking these injections. That steered me away. I’m the breadwinner and can’t afford the risk.
@@myrarussell5986 good for you. Keep looking into this. I added Dc3 (mine was really low along with calcium) and am taking magnesium and K7 and Boron. I will not take any of those drugs after hearing about a few women who have osteo of the jaw. I discussed this with my endocrinologist and he told me he has seen no evidence of this but he in the same breath referred me to see my dentist and we would proceed from there. He is supposed to be the best in his field in Philadelphia and when I asked him about diet and exercise he said he placed no value on either. Told me to just skip Dunkin Donuts. That did it!!! Monster.
I was mortified to learn her Dr put her on this. She doesn't have osteoporosis, just mild osteopenia! They used fear porn every year to get another dose into her. After a little education and a trip to the dentist, which raised that concern, she was convinced to take no more and told the drs to take another look at her test results. They very reluctantly agreed. She now takes boron and other multi minerals and does resistance training at Kieser 3x/week. She turns 86 this year and has some falls without any breakages. These industries need independent regulation. Enough of big (p)Harma
Please give me a straight honest answer. I find you are more reliable, and trustworthy to ask this question. Reclast and Prolia which is ideal for persons who have to take medications for osteoporosis (Bone test show -3.8)
I’m someone who has to take a hormone inhibitor because of estrogen positive breast cancer and will not take those drugs. I have taken garden of life bone growth system instead and last dexa, a few days ago, in 6 months an increase in my spine of bone density, 8%, hip basically stayed the same, so I am pleased with the results and will continue since I did no exercise during that time to increase the density, so the system was the reason for the increase in my opinion. I’m 72 years young.
Congrats on the spine improvement! The Garden of Life system includes strontium which is known to increase bone density on DEXA scans. Dr. Lucas has a video on it, "Strontium: Missing Secret Ingredient to Reversing Osteoporosis or a Supplement Avoid at All Costs?" After watching the video, I elected to take it, but I also have upped my exercise regiment to include resistance training.
I have very bad Osteoporosis diagnosed at 30, 32 years ago. I have not been able to start the exercise program because of other health issues like Epilepsy. I have refused all the drugs after trying one for 1yr, then read the s/e so chose never to take any again. These vitamins sound like they could be worth starting, I will look into The Garden of Life bone growth system, thank you for sharing.
@@Dr_DougLucas Actually, I'm pretty healthy🥰 Unfortunately, four health concerns hit at the same time. Of all people, my wonderful dentist told to keep asking questions. In this case, My very good Dr just wants to give me a pill. Not happening. Your videos gives me LOTS of questions material- and solid direction. Thank you and keep talking. My best to you and your staff
I have had in the past stem cell infusion. You mentioned stem cells. Would having stem cell infusion be a good thing for me. I am high risk and do not want to go on drugs. I am a Canadian and would love to sign up with your team. Thank you for all your videos they have helped me greatly in that I do not feel alone and do not have to depend on drugs.
Hi there. We currently can’t directly with Canadians but we are looking into international licensure so stay tuned. As for stem cells. I am not convinced of the benefits yet and there are risks which are not often discussed!
Thank you. Been on Prolia for 7 yrs. Discontinued Sep of 2023. Did not take another osteoporosis drug. The side effects I endured were so horrific! This video is so helpful. Thank u
You need to get on a bisphosphonate NOW. Check your markers. The rebound is quick and ferocious. My wife is off it now too after 5 years. It’s worse the longer you are on it.
😊 I did stop and all help broke lose, I have 5 compression now in my vertebrae. I had one that was address will bone cement. This could have been prevented if I would have know.
Thanks for another excellent video Dr Lucas. Do you have any advice on the effectiveness of Evenity (Romosozamab). I started this drug 2 months ago. Thank you.
Thank you; that was a very interesting and informative video. I would be interested in your views regarding Zoledronic Acid. The pros and cons of this drug please.
I am on the generic Prolia study trial. (South Africa). So far i had 2 jnjections, Prolia or the new generic. I have fatigue and a bit of light headedness soon after the injection, lasting about 12 hours. Since then my spine reading has improved. I am supplementing with cslcium and vit d3. I feel great! Best decision ever. I will continue after the medical trial. 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I'm 77 now and have been on Prolia for ar least 8 years. Amazingly, I have had no side effects. Thank you so much!! I moved pcp's this year, and have missed a dose. I am toying w whether or not to go back on it. I can make a more informed decision, having seen this video.
Very good video again. Thanks. Someone I know came off Prolia and was put on a Biphosphonate. So the period for the follow-up biphosphonate is determined by the length of time you took Prolia or by the data that is available for biphosphonates in general?
The outlook is generally that patients would remain on the bisphosphonate for as long as they can. Not a good long term plan in my opinion but sometimes it's the only option.
Ever since I got the one and only injection, it seemed like everything started hurting. I stopped after one shot and now my legs, back, hips, ribs and feet hurt still. It's been over a year and I am miserable! I didn't even have full blown osteoporosis and am not at all happy that my doctor never told me of possible side effects! I wish I never took this awful drug!
I was dumb enough to have two shots even after feeling "not right ”. after taking the first one. Since then I have never been the same. My whole body is falling apart and I really believe it's because of this drug! Have told my doctors that I'll never do another.
Hi! Am on prolia. Some time back read fm the leaflet must use it n not stop but doctor no say abt this. Thks to you You confirm this the case. True do not know what to do. Either continue what doctor say or stop totally. The dentist consultant says good because it helps the bone to be anti- cancer. Hv breast cancer 2016. Thanks😊
Thank you so much for this information. I was really one of those who are looking for a decision. I have had 3 doses of prolia. Now desperately trying a way out. Doctors don't support it. They want me to be on this drug for ever. I am 53, don't want to live on this. I am active, do Yoga, exercise, eat healthy. Now, I will not take prolia. But still afraid of after effects of stopping it.

Thanks for this. I would like to get some idea of what a soid plan consists of when one comes off these drugs. I have increased my weight-bearing exercises; I am eating prunes daily, I have increasingly become more vigilant about my intake of vitamins and minerals that support bone density, I have increased my magnesium intake, I take vitamins D & K as well as other vitamins, both in term of diet and supplementation and lastly, I have a very strong positive mental attitude. I have done all this through my own research as my doctors do not provide any other information apart from that relating to the drugs.
@@lindakautzman7388 I am going to a bone specialist tomorrow at a university health center. I do know that they do ultrasound bone scanning and they use the LIFTMOR resistance training program. I am hoping that I can do that program because the drug side effects are even more frightening than osteoporosis itself.
Thank you for doing this video, i have been on prolia for years and actually my next injection is next week. I also have a rare bone disease called Olliers Disease with Madelungs Deformaty.
Is the book you mentioned available yet? I went to Amazon and didn’t see it. Thank you for the video, but I wish I could find a local doctor to discuss this all with.
I need to call you!! For years, all I've been told is that I have osteopenia. The scan I had just this week said the same. I did get a couple of msgs from the pcp saying my spine looked better, but my femur was worse. To me, that implies that my bones have not been great and have only been told that I have osteopenia. The pcp asked if I wanted to take medication. For the last 8-9 years, I've tried to have conversations with this Dr about muscle and bone pain. I am SO Frustrated!!!
You are not alone! We would be more than happy to speak with you and discuss this further. You may schedule a discovery call at the following link -->www.optimalbonehealth.com/membership
I lost 2.5 inches, had rib fractures and was in osteoporosis in hip and spine. I took 19 months of timlos and went to osteopina. Now I am on prolia. I now see that all this was a good choice because for the time I have left, I will not have the same fear of severe breaks and I can enjoy my time. A 10 year plan is great for me.
same here. after my first 6 months on prolia: after 6 years of ibandronate and 2 years tymlos, I am finally improving and preserving bone. As a 'geriatric dentist' many of my patients are in misery with bone pain and I am glad I am on this med now. My doctor said the only drawback is that if I come off the prolia we may see decrease.
Yep. 15 years ago i had a severe reaction to a biphosphanate infusion...i was told i could have no more. End of story until 15 years later when an endodontist asked me had i had this drug previously. There was no hand out, no discussion about risks when i had the infusions. now, i have been identified as having necrosis of the jaw. No i'm sorry, no help, just more medical bills. Doctors take an oath of " do no harm!" What happened?
I’m sorry you had that reaction. Your doctor was likely doing what they thought was best for you. Consent should be obtained before an infusion but it would have stated that is a low risk of that kind of complication and you would have likely had the infusion anyway. Hindsight can be frustrating with procedures even when consent is appropriately obtained. True informed consent is not really possible.
I have sjogrens and osteoporosis doctors want me on Prolia. I find it very interesting that you said long term side effect neocrosis...this is what I am concerned about especially with the sjogrens. No doctor or dentist have studied both and Prolia. So, now I am not sure what to do. I really struggle with this. I can't take Fosamax. I am already 75.

I would really like you to check out the research being done, including many RUclips videos by Dr. Clayton Rubins on the Low Intensity Vibration plate, particularly the Marodyne brand, that has shown very good results in reversing bone loss. I look forward to a review of this type of treatment for Osteo. Thanks.
So, I’m 58, diagnosed at 47( didn’t go on ANY MEDS!) my scores( 2 yrs ago) were -4.3 of my spine, I started fracturing( T-8 and T-10) I’m afraid to do ANYTHING!!! I may have to go on medication 😞
Thank you so much for this. I met with my OP endocrinologist yesterday at Columbia Presbyterian. I just turned 69. Went from osteopenia to osteoporosis within the last 2 years, due mainly to major weight loss from malabsorption due to IBD and low calcium intake according to my dr. My T score is -2.7 in hip. Had REMS done last September which was actually worse but fragility score was about 30%. I’ve lost more weight though. To my doctor’s credit she said no Prolia for me. However she wants me to start Fosamax. I have multiple drug allergies and am terrified of starting new drugs. Im taking D3, K2/MK7, boron, magnesium glycinate, some calcium citrate, high omega 3, vitamin C. I can’t digest most leafy greens but do eat a lot of salmon and sardines. I’ve refused treatment at this point but am terrified either way. My Vit D level is 55. She wants it at 30!!! Which I think is ridiculous. No Dr has ever recommended that. I appreciate all your videos and the clarity, especially given my very complicated health history. Thank you.
Hello, Thank you for sharing your story. A comprehensive plan and some functional advice may go a long way for you. IBD is something we often treat in our OHH side. @@Dr_DougLucas I totally agree. Thank you for your input. We’re trying to get malabsorption, weight loss, inflammation under control naturally. It’s a complicated mess, but I’m not jumping into bisphosphonates and adding more gasoline to the fire. Of course it comes down to $$$ I’ve spent a fortune on functional tests and practitioners so it makes it difficult. Doing the best I can do. Thank you.
Just (finally) saw endocrinologist. He's doing a bunch more tests--yay! Said because my case is severe and I am younger (62) I needed a stronger drug than fosamax. (Also, he said any "pill stuck" feeling was not good, with this drug, so don't take it, (PCP said, "Take TUMS, extra calcium is a bonus," when I told him about it.) But after the year of evenity, he said most likely reclast, then Prolia. He said that would get us out...7-10 years? (Can't remember exactly.) I wasn't surprised, but guess I'd hoped we could do the one year of evenity and see--if addressing other issues helped, etc.? But I guess (heard it through grapevine?) you don't just stop evenity either? You have to be on a relay drug? Well, one year at a time, I guess. (If my insurance will cover evenity...he said he didn't think there'd be an issue since I can document fractures. 😮)
Common challenge! "Take TUMS" is advice from 1970s. TUMS are poorly absorbed and not ideal in my eyes. Evenity is a powerful tool. I have a video pending on this topic. Just like Prolia there is a recommendation to go on a second drug after Evenity. I do work with people trying to avoid the second drug option. It's reasonable to do but only with a solid plan and close monitoring. We do the same with Prolia.
I have had 7 broken bones in 4 years. My dexa scan says osteopenia, but Dr. Says because of the breaks he classes me at osteoporosis. I am a carrier of Liden Factor 5. Due to risks if myocardial infarction from Forteo I can't take it. Dr. States I will be of Prolia the rest of my life. Last year I just stood up and my left metatarsal broke on the outside edge of the foot. It twisted my foot at that time and I had 2 torn ligaments and 1 22cm tear in a tendon. I will turn 78 this summer. I am concernef that I will die if I ever fall again. I take collagen peptides every day with type I, II,III,IV, and V in the kind I take. Can you suggest to me other things I should do to help mtself?
@@vickireynolds7824I feel for you. I am suffering with some of these issues too. I have had osteoarthritis and osteoporosis for years. Just broke an ankle and don’t even know how as woke up that way. WTH!
Thanks for this explanation. I knew coming off the drug was a very serious issue but I did not realise that the bone turnover was suppressed in this way. I was 65 when I was diagnosed with osteoporosis of the spine and the doctor said to go on Prolia and I’d have to take if for the rest of my life. I said to her if I lived till 85 that would be 20 years on this drug. Is that safe? What are the longer term risks? She said they didn’t have any data on that period of use but it is a safe drug. That’s when I started doing some research and was horrified about the bone loss rebound effects. I stopped trusting my doctor given her cavalier attitude. I think the evidence does clearly show increased bone density achieved with it but at the back of my head I just thought this was somehow interfering too much with what should be a natural and necessary body function - break down and build up bone and you have clarified that in your video.
You nailed it. There is no 20 year approach with the current drug options available. I fear the impact of 15-20 years of bone metabolism suppression too.
@@terrifiorelli9819 Please consider seeing your doctor. The risk of rebound bone loss is high and the doctor may offer an alternative for a period of time until it’s clear what your bone density is. Best woishes. None of these options and decisions are easy.
A random message was sent to me regarding this & an appointment made for me without telling me what it was & why I'm being approached. I cancelled the appointment & came here to find out what this is. OMG I'm glad I did! I'm in my late 50s with no prior complaints about bone issues. How dare my doctor ATTEMPT to try out a relatively new drug on me without discussion & assuming I would take medication with such terrible sode effects.
Watching this video gives me concerns about the negative effects of Prolia ( on it 3yrs now). So what kind of tests do i need to take in order to assess whether it has improved or made my condition worse. And whether i can stop taking it & switch back to “safer” alternatives. Pls tell me what steps i need to take. I am 74yo & looking forward to many more years of active exercise. I stopped walking & zumba due to a mild meniscal tear but am getting better. Would like to return to more active exercise. Thank you
I had Prolia injection for 2 years after i was diagnosed with severe osteoporosis, an incidental finding after a freak accident that fractured my T12. I stopped having the injection because of muscle spasms. Now I am being referred to an endocrinologist by my primary care physician to resume my prolia injection after my bone density exams which revealed that my osteoporosis is severe. I don't feel comfortable having these injections. I rather do my exercises and managed my osteoporosis with healthy bone building foods. I am 74 years old and very active. Any recommendations is greatly appreciated. I would like to buy that book too!
great information ..what are your thought about hormo suppressing due to homo positive stage 1 breast cancer in situ with osteoporosis. I said NO to Prolia
Challenging situation for sure. If required for BC treatment it will likely cause bone loss. Questions are, what is the bone starting point and how much is someone willing to lose. Prolia and bisphosphonates have risks but will slow down bone loss and can be used temporarily for this purpose.
Dr. Lucas, thanks for the very informative and interesting video on Prolia. I have been on this drug for about 5 years now, and have recently been advised my liver enzymes are elevated. I don't use alcohol and had normal liver enzymes in late 2021, which was the last we checked them, until Sept. 2023. Do you know of any examples of elevated liver enzymes in Prolia patients where the drug might have been a factor in causing the elevation? I am due for my next injection now and am concerned about whether I should get the injection or look for another option and come off of it. Thank you!

What are your thoughts on Strontium citrate along with Boron and Silica? My mom has been on Prolia for 10 years and is 63 now. According to her scan she is losing calcium and her doctor is recommending absolutely nothing. Also her chances of finding another bone specialist are small due to where she lives. I am desperately trying to help her. Being on Prolia too long and not getting any benefits but is experiencing vertigo, hip pain and lower calcium in her bone. She was also told that if she breaks her hip they couldn't even operate her due to low bone density. Thank you so much for the information you share.

This was extremely helpful. I've recently been diagnosed with Osteoporsis and have been recommended to start prolia injections. I am 56 years old. Menopause happened at 45. L1-L4 T is -2.9. Z-score is -2.0., BMD 0.721. Hip T is -1.7, Z is -1.2. BMD is 0.783. Femoral Neck is -2.0, Z is -0.9. BMD 0.695. Don't know if you can make a recommendation. Should I start Prolia or can I increase weight bearing exercise and take supplements?? I really don't want to take Prolia. I am healthy but I haven't been exercising regularly for about 2 years. Would prefer to treat this naturally if I can and am committed to do so. I have never had a fracture. The report also stated that there was a significant decrease in the total hip and femoral neck since the last report 3 years ago which is why the prolia is recommended. Hope all of this information is okay. Thank you.
We help people reverse osteoporosis without drugs regularly. It is possible but requires a comprehensive program. Consider joining our masterclass to learn more or chat with our team about our programs.
I was unable to tolerate Fosamax and another oral med for osteopenia. Annual Reclast infusions did not stop my numbers for getting worse. Took Prolia shots 3 times and got back to normal range but had to stop it due to hearing loss side effect. Went back on Reclast but numbers dramatically worsened. Had issues with gums healing when tooth w root canal removed. Has planned to do dental implant but could not from slow healing. Got two permanent bridges instead. Just now made the connection with Prolia. Waiting to get latest Dexa scan results?
I'm so confused! I;m 71, slim and have exercised most of my life since about age 27 - gym, cardo, lightish weights, walking, horse riding. I had the test for Osteoporosis and my doc told me I had it. She then suggested Prolia. I'm due for my 3rd one in a couple of days. She gave me the option of the some other drugs but thought the side effects of Prolia weren't as bad so I agred to have the injections. Now I'm reading all this stuff about it and getting so worried. I've never had a fracture even after falling off my bike and horse a few years ago. This was before taking Prolia of course. At the moment I don't seem to have any problems with my jaw/teeth although I did have a crown on one of me teeth after my first injection with Prolia. I had a crack in an old filling so I don't think it was anything to do with the Prolia. It worries me now that I could get fractures if I go off it in 10 years. I'll then be 81 and will anyone even care.....should I get re-tested and after how long taking Prolia?
Hi. Tough predicament. We recommend testing every 1-2 years with imaging to verify improvement with programs and drugs. The risk of rebound fracture is real with Prolia discontinuation and is something that will need to be addressed. It's likely easier to come off it now than in 10 years but that will depend on each unique scenario.
What can be done? Have collapsed ribcage that sits on my pelvis. Have old femor rod that has dislocated from attachment sites. Rod, through the years has adapted a tork movement every time I move my leg. No femur cap. Has worn away from the twisting movements. Knee has twisted completely to the right. This all on my right side. Can continue. Please give feedback.
Hi Can you advise on ibandronic acid once a month drug.. This has been prescribed for me I am 60 not taken it yet but struggling to get information on long term side effects.. Many thanks M
What are your thoughts on Evenity? my husband has been prescribed this as he has severe Osteoporosis already has a fracture in the lower back has just turned 60.
We are releasing on Friday! My short summary is, it’s better than drugs, but has some negative as wells. It’s a shorter term solution than other anabolics.
My endocrinologist told me that it was simple to transition off orolia by taking bisphosphonates. I was skeptical. Is that a bonafide, research based transition plan? Can you comment please? I insisted with my doc that I need a 20 year plan at least at age 70 and not to talk about Prolia until after 80. Already experienced the devastating effects of my mom going off Prolia suddenly. I wish I knew more then so I could have intervened!
Hello, There are multiple studies that recommend switching from Prolia to bisphosphonates after 5 to 10 years. The challenge that I see with this is that this is still not a 20 year plan. This is a maximum 15 year plan and you’re right, what is the solution at 70, 80 or 90? So, whenever possible, we try to find a comprehensive solution that will delay or eliminate the need for osteoporosis drugs.
Prolia was so expensive even with insurance. Doctor said I had to take 2000 mgof calcium a day with it. Took it for three years then he tells me he doesn’t understand but results were worse. Ordered X-rays and with cat scan they see calcium was going to my main aorta and caused an anorism. I immediately came off it and of course he was not happy. Been off it and on vitamins. Staying mainly the same. Of course I still have to worry about my anorism. That’s my story. It’s all poison .
Thank you for sharing. You're correct. It's all poison, but hopefully with a desired side effect. Sounds like your experience was not so. Sorry to hear but know you are not alone...
😢😢😢😢😢Please help? Tarlov cyst on S1. Veryyyy painful. Is it at allll related to Osyeopena, or Osteoperosis in the spine? What do they usually do for ot if it IS symptomatic?
I was prescribed Prolia for Osteoporosis and was not told about side effects. When my teeth starting breaking without cavities I started asking all the doctors and dentists if it could be a medication and they said no. Finally, after asking a lot and having most of my teeth broken and Oral Surgeon told me that it was Prolia. My jaws and gums are so damaged that I can do anything about it and now all I have in my mouth are broken teeth. Please do not use Prolia
Wow, thank you for sharing your story.

Thank you so much for sharing your story. Glad you enjoyed this video, I appreciate your support!
Bone density and bone strength are different. Bone strength is increased by weight bearing exercise! Bone density does not mean your bones will be more resistant to breaking...just that they are denser. It is good to build stronger bones with muscle building weight bearing exercise. Walking is excellent place to start.
You are a god send To have this data and the trial explained it monumental. Thank you Dr Doug

Thats great, thank you so much for sharing this!

I had severe bone pain in various parts of my body after one Prolia injection. It easily lasted six months and negatively impacted every day (I normally feel excellent). I've also suffered numerous broken teeth and significant dental problems since that injection. I've sworn off all osteoporosis drugs since.
Thank you for sharing this!
I had one shot too and every bone/muscle in my body hurt for six months.
Thank you for your experience. I am afraid to try these drugs

You are welcome. Wishing you the best on your journey.

Thanks for sharing..comments are often weighted by people who have extreme side effects.
Is it the outer bone that improved or the inner part. A Dexa scan does not tell you anything about the inner part.

I was mortified to learn her Dr put her on this. She doesn't have osteoporosis, just mild osteopenia! They used fear porn every year to get another dose into her.
What is it grow bone?
Would like to know more of what exactly you are taking…as I too are on estrogen blocker for my cancer. Thank you
Hello,
I congratulate you on your success and your willingness to retest and verify improvement! This is a challenging area that is all too common.

Hi there. We currently can’t directly with Canadians but we are looking into international licensure so stay tuned. As for stem cells. I am not convinced of the benefits yet and there are risks which are not often discussed!

Thanks for another excellent video Dr Lucas. Do you have any advice on the effectiveness of Evenity (Romosozamab). I started this drug 2 months ago. Thank you.

Thanks for sharing your positive experience..How bone density improves with drug medication is seldom addressed.
can I ask your age?
Hope you never have to go off of it...
I'm 77 now and have been on Prolia for ar least 8 years. Amazingly, I have had no side effects. Thank you so much!! I moved pcp's this year, and have missed a dose. I am toying w whether or not to go back on it. I can make a more informed decision, having seen this video.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Thank you. I took it for only a year but additional pain I experienced made me stop ( 3 mo now).
By the way I was on Fosavance for 10 years.
Bummer. If you need help with a comprehensive plan consider our masterclass or a consult to see if our programs are a good fit for you.
I am so sorry to hear that, thank you for sharing your story on this!
I was dumb enough to have two shots even after feeling "not right ”. after taking the first one. Since then I have never been the same. My whole body is falling apart and I really believe it's because of this drug! Have told my doctors that I'll never do another.
How old? I ask because I'm 44 & trying to figure long-term :(,,, I DISLIKE pharmaceuticals, but I'm terrified of fracturing my osteoporotic spine. :(

There is a time and a place! Glad you are having a good experience.
Do not take Prolia, it will damage your teeth, your gums and your jaw.
same here. after my first 6 months on prolia: after 6 years of ibandronate and 2 years tymlos, I am finally improving and preserving bone. As a 'geriatric dentist' many of my patients are in misery with bone pain and I am glad I am on this med now. My doctor said the only drawback is that if I come off the prolia we may see decrease.
Seriously?
Should be off the market...not worth the risk fractures tooth loss no thanks

Thanks.
Hello,
Try searching RUclips for Dr Doug Whole Body Vibration. I mention his research and products.
So, I’m 58, diagnosed at 47( didn’t go on ANY MEDS!) my scores( 2 yrs ago) were -4.3 of my spine, I started fracturing( T-8 and T-10) I’m afraid to do ANYTHING!!!
I may have to go on medication 😞
That is severe disease. A comprehensive plan is in order. That could include medications in my hands.
Thank you.

Thank you.
I've never heard of a doctor wanting a vitamin D level decrease to 30. That is very strange. I have heard of doctors recommending levels of 80-100.
I take collagen peptides every day with type I,
II,III,IV, and V in the kind I take.
Can you suggest to me other things I should do to help mtself?

Dr. Lucas, I was wondering about the drug Forteo. Could you please advise on that drug. Thank you for all your videos, they’re great.
Hello,
Search dr Doug Forteo to find a video on this topic.
I took it, never again.
I stopped after 4 injections. It was awful. I will just take my chances.
@@terrifiorelli9819 Please consider seeing your doctor. The risk of rebound bone loss is high and the doctor may offer an alternative for a period of time until it’s clear what your bone density is. Best woishes. None of these options and decisions are easy.

The book and our masterclass is a great starting point.
great information ..what are your thought about hormo suppressing due to homo positive stage 1 breast cancer in situ with osteoporosis.
Thank you!

Thank you.

2:23 benefits of the oral biphosphonates is not GI tract side effects???
That's one way to look at it. Oral bisphosphonates can cause side effects and GI tract complications while IV should not.
What are your thoughts on Evenity? my husband has been prescribed this as he has severe Osteoporosis already has a fracture in the lower back has just turned 60.

Hello,
There are multiple studies that recommend switching from Prolia to bisphosphonates after 5 to 10 years.
Does your master class give information for people who have metastatic breast cancer and taking medication such as letrazole?
We touch on it, yes.
I hated it too. Never taking any of these again.

Hi there. Hope I didn't mis speak. Clearly osteoclasts break down bone and osteoblasts to the opposite.
